[quote author=searchiing4love post=49027206] sad Restructuring is not the solution but the present status quo. Restructuring is a cunny attempt by easterners to achieve biafra and it won't happen. History tells us Ojukwu was able to instigate the civil war because he was the head of Eastern region. If we go back to regionalism, non-entities like Nnamdi kanu will rise again and start pushing for biafra which is a bad omen for Nigeria. No part of the country must be allowed to split for no reason. Lord Luggard was an intellectual when he merged us together. There is strength in unity. Let's keep maintaining the present federal system till the Igbo's are patriotic eno

ugh to forget biafra sad
[/quoteJ]

You talk like real devil from the pit of hell.what has the igbos got to do with restructuring. Is Igbo the only tribe in nigeria.i am not for division but if this hatred for igbos is not eschewed then I can assure you that nigeria will soon be worse off than Venezuela. Aaahhhhhhh the hatred for igbos is becoming so irritating and stinking. I thought if you hate someone then you remove the person from your life oya leave igbo no allow them nooo.honestly you spirit is so full of hate that it can even kill and possibly close down this site.grow up please all we want is a better nigeria where equity and justice shall reign supreme otherwise forget the entity called nigeria.point of correction.lord lugard to you maybe an intellectual but to some other nigerians including myself I call him a greedy and insincere person.let him explain nigeria. He is gone today but I tell you that most nigeria can never celebrate him.
There is strength in diversity but we need to make that happen.preach peace and not hatred.igbo, hausa , yoruba and all other tribes have all erred but we need to eschew pride, hatred, ,ethnicity to make Nigeria great again! This is the only way forward and we need to do this urgently before nigeria sinks.

PoliticsRe: Nigerian Economy, Not In Confusion – Adeosun, Finance Minister by ngoziama: 11:09am On Sep 01, 2016
Chevalier:
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, on Wednesday declared that the Nigerian economy is not in confusion.
Noting that the Nigeria economy has been heading to recession in the past six years, she however said that the economy is presently in the right hands.
She spoke with State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeosun was accompanied to the briefing by the Ministers of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh; Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi; Information, Lai Mohammed and Education, Adamu Adamu.
Responding to questions on the new economic statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), she said: “It’s the worst possible time for us. Are we confused? Absolutely not. How are we going to get ourselves out of this recession. One, we must make sure that we diversify our economy. There are too many of us to keep on relying on oil.
“We can see what happened at the output data of the oil and gas sector. What’s happening in the Niger delta has dragged down the GDP of the entire economy. We’re too dependent on oil whereas 87 percent of our GDP is oil. So let us drive those other areas
“We have to invest in capital projects. No, we are not confused, the time is confusing but we are not confused. We are extremely focused. We know that if we can just bare and get through this difficult period, Nigeria is going to be better for it.
“If we rely on oil and the price of oil remains low and the quantity of oil remains low, we can’t grow. We have to grow our non-oil economy. I think we that we have a long way to go.
“We’re not confused and we’re not deceiving ourselves that everything is rosy. It’s not. It’s a difficult time for Nigeria but I think Nigeria is in the right hands and if we can stick with our strategy. We still have some adjustments to make. I think we need to make some adjustments in monetary policy. It’s quite clear we do and we will do that. We’re working on that. We need to try and find a way to support the manufacturing sector better and we will do that.” She added
She pointed out that the high inflation rate in the country is cost-pushed.
“And when you have cost-push inflation, it is structural inflation. It is not going to respond to monetary policy tools such as increasing the rate of interest. We have to address the structural causes of the inflation,” she said
But, she however said that the high rate of inflation has slowed down, which is a good sign for the economy.
According to her, the FEC on Wednesday approved external three-year rolling borrowing plan.
The plan, she said, will be transmitted to the National Assembly for the approval.
She said: “Recall when we came in we said our external borrowings strategy will be focused on confessional debts, low cost loans particularly from the multi-lateral agencies.”
The conditions of the borrowing, she said, included concessional loans average interest rates 1.25 per cent, four to seven year moratorium, and 20 years to pay.
According to her, the loans will come from agencies like the World Bank, African Development Bank, China Exim Bank, and other development agencies like Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
She added: “The sectors in particular that these concessional loans will go to are the strategic sectors of the economy that will help to revive the economy. There is Power. Significant amount of money are located to power projects particularly transmission. This is long term money that will enable us solve some of the problems in that sector.
“There are projects around polio. There are some money that have been allocated to us to help us do some massive immunization, in order to control this recent outbreak. This is being provided by the World Bank.
“There is provision for solid minerals and of course I’m very excited about the discovery of nickel. World Bank is supporting the project by the Ministry of Mines and Steel with $150 million to enable them strengthen their capacity in that area.
“The largest beneficiary of our borrowing is agriculture because its equally strategic and we have programmes by the minister some of which he inherited and is going to restructure and reform and some are new to the ministry.
“The balance will come from the Eurobond we had indicated.” She said.
According to her, the FEC sent a strong signal on the need to reach out to the National Assembly to get the borrowing plan approved as soon as possible.
“Because a lot of this money is for developmental projects. We need this money to be made available for us. Remember these are foreign exchange coming to our country that will help our economy.” She added
Fayemi disclosed that the Council approved a new roadmap for mining to boost the growth and development of the industry.
He said: “What the roadmap seeks to do is to grow the contribution of mining to the GDP on the back of the President’s vision to diversify the economy. It is to build on the old roadmap of 2012.
“What distinguishes this roadmap is its determination to build a regulatory agency – an independent regulatory agency in the mining sector. Stakeholders have been insisting that the ministry should not also be the regulator of the industry.
“We will now have Mining cadastral zonal offices which issue the licenses together with the mining inspecting directorate, mining environment compliance unit as well as the nautical mining units. These are directorate within the ministry but will form part of the independent regulatory agency.
“The second point that is very critical is the partnership with states. One of the challenges in mining is the tension between the federal government and the states. The Federal Government owns the minerals in the sole but the states government owns the land.
He stressed that there won’t be any headway without a robust partnership between the two critical components of mining, adding that mining has not been thriving because of the tension between the Federal Government and states.
“In this regard, minning cadastrail and zonal offices will also be created in the states to work on this.” He added
He said that the roadmap is to also change the name of the Ministry from Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in line with global standard.
The roadmap, he said, will also
make it easier for foreign direct investment to come into the country by improving on Nigeria’s geo-sciences data.
“Mining is about science and if you don’t search you won’t find. Council recognizes that and agreed that a lot of money be put into exploration.
“The roadmap also focuses on financing the industry, the financial institutions don’t know much about mining and have not invested a lot in it.
“One of the ways the President wants to re-energise the sector is to ensure it gives access to the Natural Resource Fund of the Federation Account which is really meant for agriculture, mining and water resources. But mining has never benefited from the fund. This is similar to ecological fund 1.8 per cent of federation.
“Another focus is to ensure that value addition is gradually being invested to and reduce the manner in which raw minerals are exported from Nigeria. It is to emphasize beneficiation and processing, so that what we produce is also improved upon before we embark on exportation.
“We also want to ensure it is utilize here, we have granite, Marbel, bitumen yet we import the bulk of those products into Nigeria because processing does not take place here
Above all, it focuses to increase the contribution of mining to the GDP of the country. Mining has gradually declined from 4.5 per cent of the GDP at independence to 0.33 per cent of the GDP as at today.
“Given the new focus we can begin to scale that up again. Within the next decade, it’s readily expected that it will begin to climb up to about five per cent of the nation’s GDP.
”The roadmap gives a sense to how the country is paying attention to mining development which is more of an employment generator and wealth creator unlike oil, which recruits fewer people.
“We want to upscale it and improve the skills of the people, making access to finance available and making technology available to them,” he stated

Foreign AffairsRe: Gabon Parliament Set Ablaze After Bongo Was Declared Winner (photos) by ngoziama: 10:53am On Sep 01, 2016
Mandynews:
Angry protesters torched Gabon's parliament Wednesday after President Ali Bongo was declared winner of what he claimed was a "peaceful and transparent" election, but which the opposition said was fraudulent.
It only took a few minutes for the announcement to sink in before several of Libreville's poorer neighbourhoods erupted in anger, with thousands of people taking to the streets to express their fury.
According to official results made public shortly after 1500 GMT, Bongo won Saturday's presidential poll by just 5,594 votes, taking 49.80 percent to 48.23 percent for his rival Jean Ping, a veteran diplomat and former top African Union official.

The results will remain "provisional" until they are approved by the constitutional court.

By nightfall, protesters vented their fury by setting fire to the parliament building, sending skyward a plume of flame and black smoke, witnesses and AFP correspondents said.

Fires were visible in other parts of Libreville and explosions were heard as protesters faced off against heavily armed security forces.

"The whole building is catching fire," a man outside parliament who gave name as Yannick told AFP.

The parliament lies on the same road as the state TV headquarters, senate, town hall, oil ministry, several embassies and the French cultural centre.

As soon as Bongo's victory in Saturday's poll was announced Wednesday, people took to the streets of the city's slums, chanting "Ali must go."

- Slim margin -

As helicopters flew overhead and smoke rose above poorer neighbourhoods, soldiers, police and gendarmes stopped traffic on the main highway where protestors braved tear gas to set tyres alight.

Protestors shouted, "Jean Ping president!" and "They stole the election."

Ping, a half Chinese career diplomat has rejected the results, and before they were announced had declared it was he who won.

There was also trouble Wednesday in the economic capital Port Gentil, which saw the worst of the violence that followed Bongo's 2009 election victory.

That contested vote followed the death of Bongo's father, Omar Bongo, who ruled the oil-rich country for 41 years.

Any appeal by Ping would likely focus on disputed results in one of the country's nine provinces -- the Haut-Ogooue, the heartland of Bongo's Teke ethnic group.

In Saturday's vote, turnout was 59.46 percent nationwide but soared to 99.93 percent in Haut-Ogooue, where Bongo won 95.5 percent of votes.

"It's going to be difficult to get people to accept these results," one member of the electoral commission confided to AFP, asking not to be named because of the sensitivity of the subject.

"We've never seen results like these, even during the father's time," he added.

Opposition delegates in the electoral commission have vowed to fight for a recount.

- 'Let's change together' -

Ping, the European Union and former colonial power France have called for voting figures from each of Gabon's polling stations to be made public to ensure the credibility of overall result.

In 2009, Bongo was declared winner of the election after his father's death. In the ensuing clashes several people were killed, buildings looted and the French consulate in the economic capital Port Gentil torched.

EU observers, who were barred from the meeting of the electoral commission on Wednesday, said the vote on Saturday was "managed in a way that lacked transparency".

Joining the EU in pressuring Bongo on Wednesday, the French foreign ministry called for the electoral commission to show "transparency and impartiality".

"Only in this way can the credibility of the results be guaranteed," a spokesman for the French foreign ministry on Wednesday.

Gabon is a former French colony which has been hit by the global slump in the price of crude oil, its biggest export.

One third of Gabon's population lives in poverty, despite the country boasting one of Africa's highest per capita incomes at $8,300 (7,400 euros) thanks to pumping 200,000 barrels of oil a day.

Bongo, 57, campaigned under the slogan "Let's change together," playing up the roads and hospitals built during his first term and stressing the need to break with the bad old days of disappearing public funds and dodgy management of oil revenues.

The campaign period was marked by months of bitter exchanges between the two camps, including accusations, and strenuous denials, that Bongo was born in Nigeria and therefore ineligible to run.

Ping's own roots -- he is Sino-Gabonese -- served as ammunition for Bongo's camp, which has suggested he and his son are secretly serving Chinese interests.

BusinessRe: We Buy Dollars From Government Officials — Bdcs by ngoziama: 3:23am On Aug 30, 2016
youngalex:
Bureau de Change (BDC) operators in Abuja have blamed the steady fall of the naira on deliberate hoarding of foreign currencies which forces them to buy from government officials and top politicians across the country.

Some BDC operators at Wuse Zone 4, a popular spot for foreign currency exchange, lamented that the pervasive scarcity of the dollars and other core global currencies is due to activities of highly placed government officials, top politicians and Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) staff, who have found the falling naira as a way to line up their pockets at the expense of the nation.

On allegation made by a former CBN governor and current Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, that people sit at home and make calls to buy dollars from the CBN and resell, BDC operators corroborated it, saying, “It is true.”

Refusing to identify his name, a BDC operator said, “Dollar is scare, we don’t have it like in the past. For us to have it, we must identify who to approach to buy from CBN for us,” he said.

“Mostly, top government officials use their influence to buy from the CBN in the name of going abroad for official assignment,” he further alleged.

Asked if he knew anyone or had bought from them, he said, “My ‘oga’ (boss) does not sleep,” adding that “he follows them around, sometimes he goes to their houses in Asokoro, Maitama to beg them to buy dollars. He traveled to Kano last time to approach somebody for it,” he pointed out.

According to information provided by the BDC operators, ministers, key personnel at the presidency, top politicians not in government but with strong links as well as traditional rulers mostly from the northern part of the country use their influence to buy dollars from the CBN even at the old rate of N170/$.

This must have informed the allegation of Sanusi, who, according to sources, must have spoken from vintage position.

“My boss told me he buys dollars sometimes at N300 and N380 depending on individual sellers,” another BDC operator noted.

The CBN while trying to prop up the naira few months ago opened dual windows and harped that the naira was floated to subject it to market forces.

Unfortunately, the national currency has continued to receive intense battering and fell to N406/$ few days ago at the black (parallel) market.

Recent reports said the naira has shed almost 40% against the dollar in almost a year, making it the worst performing currency globally.

And if that was not enough, Sanusi ran scathing attacks on the Federal Government handling of the economy in general and the CBN currency operation in particular.

“You don’t have to be an economist to know that any system that allows you to sit in your garden, and with a telephone call, make one billion naira without investing a kobo, that system is wrong. It is unsustainable”, Sanusi said of highly placed politicians and top individuals who use their influence to buy forex from the CBN and sell to make undeserved profit.

“And just so we are not always blaming the previous administration. We have also made mistakes in this administration,” he added.

“And if we fall into the same holes that we fell into the last time where the government is always right… If a policy is wrong, it is wrong. Nothing will make it right and it has to be changed,” the former CBN governor asserted.

Investigations based on findings from the BDC operators have shown that CBN top executives know about the whole dirty deals.

According to information, they are helpless as they cannot stop immense pressure put on them.

“Often, calls come from various sources that are highly placed. The major culprits in requesting for forex which they possibly resell are the ministers and highly placed presidency staff, who the CBN executives cannot ignore,” a BDC operator told Independent, lamenting that he was tired of begging these “people for forex.”

Few months ago, before the CBN floated the naira, there were allegations against a key aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, who had unimpeded access to forex as the nation groaned under forex scarcity.

The CBN had defended its position, saying it did not sell dollars to individuals but the aide while defending his dollar purchases said he did not breach any law as he did not buy above the threshold set by the CBN.

There has also been allegation of the CBN leaving its constitutional role of being the bankers’ bank to the buying and selling of currencies.

According to the BDC operator, who spoke with Independent, “the CBN flexible forex regime has not worked in our favour or the country but has become the conduit pipe as Emir Sanusi has said to influential people’s advantage.

“Banks don’t have adequate forex and so the demand placed on us is high. But for you to get it, you must be prayerful that one government’s official or politician remembers you and comes calling to sell what he has gotten for cheap from the CBN,” he said.

Omooba77:
http://punchng.com/jonathan-buhari-blame-poor-economy/
Rather than apportioning blame, I would consider the factors that are responsible for the economic challenges. There are two major factors to consider – external and internal problems.

The external factors are outside the control of the country but they have serious impacts on our economy. The collapse of the global oil market has a direct implication for the Nigerian economy. About three years ago, a barrel of crude was over $100. Now the same barrel is about $40. Oil is the main source of the revenue of the country.

Also related to this is the crisis in the Niger Delta, which has drastically reduced the volume we were producing a few years ago. We used to export over two million barrels per day. Now, we export 600,000 barrels below that quantity.

Secondly, the United States has become a major producer of crude. That used to be our market. The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas is not doing well as it used to because there are many other countries that operate in the market. Apart from that, the global economy has slowed down. If the global economy was doing well, there would be more demand for oil and gas. Demand for both oil and gas has fallen while supply has increased, causing a crisis in the market.
Because of several reasons, the inflow of foreign capital has gone down. That is another extraneous factor that is responsible for the current problems.

But more fundamental are the internal factors. And some of these factors originated from the immediate past administration. That is where I would blame the past administration for part of the problem. One, we did not prepare fully for the kind of economic crisis that we are confronted with now. Both our external reserve and excess crude account reduced drastically during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Many of the states are insolvent today because they went borrowing without much check by the Federal Government. Corruption was high while the Petroleum Industry Bill that should have been passed to lay a strong foundation for investment in the sector was stalled. There were challenges.

But the current administration cannot continue to hide under those challenges. We are over a year into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Yet, people are still asking – what is the economic direction of the country? Where is the document that one could look at to see our objectives, strategies and the coordination of the economic programmes that would take us to our destination? I cannot see any concerted effort or blueprint that would take us out of the problems.

Every government meets challenges. The responsibility of the government is not to emphasise those challenges but to bail out the country. President Barack Obama met challenges; the US’ unemployment rate was about 11 per cent when he came into the office. But that has dropped to about five per cent. There were policies and programmes to address the challenges. In the case of the Buhari administration, I have not seen any sense of urgency to get out of the challenges. We expected to see an economic document like the one developed by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo when he came into power in 1999.

The economic policies (of the government) do not have linkages. Look at the exchange policy. You don’t even know what policy it is. Is it deregulated, controlled or regulated floating exchange rate? We have all kinds of markets; the existence of unofficial and official rates is an indication of the inefficiency of the monetary authority. At the black market, it is about N390/dollar; at the official market, it is about N300/dollar. I understand there is also a window where you can get N199/dollar. That creates uncertainty among investors.

Prof. Adeola Adenikinju (Director, Centre for Petroleum Energy Economics and Law, University of Ibadan)
I do not think this is the appropriate time to blame anybody. We may do that later. Political governance is a continuous thing. President Muhammadu Buhari started where his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, stopped.

Jonathan might not have done his best, hence, Buhari was elected to right what went wrong in the six years of Jonathan’s administration.

So far, I think Buhari is doing well. The fight against corruption is a good way to reposition the economy. Also, we need to guarantee the safety of lives and property in order to have a robust economy. I would give good marks to Buhari in the area of security.

Yet, there are certain things I think the President needs to do to fast-track economic recovery. He needs to encourage local production. The economy also needs to be diversified and our infrastructures need to be fixed. So far, we have not seen much effort in this regards.

Abudullahi Etsemeuno (Acting Registrar/National Coordinator, Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria)
The economic challenges were caused by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. This is because there were supposed to be sufficient savings for the rainy day. But the administration squandered the savings left by the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The administration, at a point, was borrowing money to survive. That should not have happened.

The current administration inherited problems; it did not know the magnitude of the problems until it assumed power. It did not realise that the country was already borrowing before it came in. when ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo was leaving office, we had about $50bn in the reserve.

When Jonathan assumed office, it was still above $40bn. The administration should have built on the reserve because the prices of oil were still high. But the public officials were busy stealing money when they should have been building on the reserve.

The government did not develop the infrastructure. Yet, it blew away the reserve and started borrowing as soon the prices of oil fell.

Sheriffdeen Tella (Professor of Economics and former Vice-Chancellor, Crescent University, Ogun State)
The current administration is grappling with perennial economic challenges. However, the administration lacks the focus and the appropriate expertise to handle the challenges. The fact is that there is no country that does not have challenges. Every country finds a way to manage its challenges. That is what this administration has not been able to do. There has to be a sound economic team at a critical time like this.

The administration seems to have good economic programmes but it appears to lack competent individuals required to implement them.

You cannot say that you are fighting corruption and you put the economy on suspension mode. The Buhari administration is using military tactics to lead a democratic country. That is the challenge.

For me, the administration has the responsibility to put the economy on the path of growth, which it is not doing. It has continued to complain of lack of funds. What has it done with the loots it recovered from corrupt politicians? That money should have been channeled to the productive sectors of the economy.

Ken Oteje (Economic analyst)
The administration of Goodluck Jonathan did not do what was required to avert the problems we face today. The money the past administration earned from crude some years back was not properly used. The reserve was wasted; that was the money the government should have used to fix the infrastructure and diversify the economy.

But we cannot exclude the current administration entirely. We are like a country that is on a battlefield. You cannot send naval officers to the desert to fight neither would you send those who should be operating fighter jets to the sea to fight and expect a good result. The administration needs to put the right people in strategic positions if we must overcome the economic challenges facing us.

As an economist, I consider economic stabilisation the most crucial in every decision I analyse. We must be able to stabilise the economy. The government needs to sustain the growth we have recorded after which it could think about growing the economy. If the President had put in place his cabinet and put the right people in sensitive positions much earlier, we would have probably averted some of the current challenges.

Science/TechnologyRe: River Niger Will Soon Overflow – NEMA Warns Nearby Communities by ngoziama: 3:59pm On Aug 07, 2016
Adebayor1:
Following intense rainfall and rise in water level, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has advised communities along the river Niger to evacuate immediately to safer ground as a result of the likelihood of floods that may occur, any moment from now.
Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who gave the advice on Saturday said the agency has received alerts of the flood from information given by the authorities in the Republic of Niger that the present water level in the river had reached a point that may result in the flood that could be compared with the unfortunate experience of 2012.

He said “Niger Basin Authority (NBA) notified Nigeria that rainy season, which started in the Middle Niger (Burkina Faso and Niger Republic) in June, 2016, has led to a gradual rise of the level of River Niger in Niamey, Niger Republic. This high level of water in Niger Republic is already spreading to Benin Republic, and invariably, to Nigeria”.

He disclosed that the level of water in all the hydrological monitoring stations across the country, as at Friday August, 2016, had already exceeded the corresponding values at that time, which was an alarming situation that required the prompt and coordinated action of all governments and stakeholders.

“If the heavy rainfall continues in intensity and duration within these regions of the River Niger, it is imminent that flood situation similar to that of the year 2012 may occur”, he added.m

The NEMA DG then called on all stakeholders to take necessary actions in line with their various mandates.

He added that, “The states and local government are to ensure observance with the threat in order to avert imminent loss of lives and properties that might certainly arise in the event of flood.”

Sidi identified the states along the river Niger belts as being the most vulnerable as well as those along its major tributaries that includes Benue river belts, the confluence states and downstream to the Atlantic Coast.

NEMA Zonal and Operation offices, he noted, have been instructed to continue with advocacy visit to the state governments and also urged the state to utilize the flood vulnerability maps given to them earlier by NEMA to identify safer ground for temporary shelters in time of evacuation as well as reviewing all their contingency plans.

PoliticsRe: Presidency Denies Favouring North, Muslims In Appointments by ngoziama: 8:59pm On Aug 01, 2016
TheFreeOne:
The Presidency on Monday said contrary to claims by some individuals and groups, President Muhammdu Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion in his appointments and policies since he assumed office on May 29, 2015.

It said claims that the present administration was targeting Christians and members of the opposition were without foundation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement while reacting to The London Telegraph’s article “Children Face Death by Starvation in Northern Nigeria” published on Saturday.

Shehu said the article repeated a claim from an earlier piece “Nigeria Using UK Aid to Persecute President’s Political Foes” published on April 12, indicating that Nigeria was diverting United Kingdom’s aid monies away from defeating the Islamist terror group Boko Haram towards those the newspaper identifies as political opponents of the administration.

He said the statement was incorrect and unhelpful.

The presidential spokesman said to suggest Buhari’s government as deepening Muslim-Christian division was not only untrue, but played into the hands of Boko Haram who wished to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

He said, “As for claims that the administration is targeting Christians and the opposition, these are without foundation.

“Since assuming office, President Buhari has treated all Nigerians without bias for ethnicity or religion – as the composition of his cabinet and the policies and programmes of his administration demonstrate.

“To suggest his government as deepening Muslim-Christian division is not only untrue, but plays into the hands of Boko Haram who wish to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

“Fighting this group is key priority of President Buhari’s administration. Indeed the international community has widely acknowledged his determination to defeat terrorism in Nigeria and the entire Lake Chad Basin.

“There is nothing to gain by attempting to mould public opinion against these facts. Therefore we invite The Telegraph to visit Nigeria: to witness first hand not only the challenges we face, but the administration’s determination to confront them.”

Shehu noted that while the claims in both articles were attributed to an unnamed source in the United States and “Western officials”, yet the first article drew the condemnation of the US Embassy in Abuja as having drawn conclusions directly opposite to the position of the US government when it was first published.

He explained that the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian government for operations against Boko Haram.

He added that the Federal Government is not in position to divert aid monies meant for refugees.

He also noted that the blame for the plight of refugees lies with members of Boko Haram, saying they are its cause, not the Nigerian government.

He added, “To state the facts: the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram. Where British military support – such as intelligence – is provided, it is precisely and only, given for operations directly against Boko Haram.

“Similarly, the Nigerian Government is in no position to divert aid monies used for emergency relief for refugees or IDP camps for any other purpose, as these are dispensed directly by DFID, USAID, the United Nations, the International Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and many other organisations – with which we enjoy excellent relations.

“The humanitarian situation in these camps is real. The administration remains deeply concerned about the medical, health and nutrition challenges and we are doing everything with the limited resources we have at our disposal to improve the situation

At least thank God the western world is observing.Buhari is ruling like he would be the last president of nigeria.garba shehu I had rather be quiet than tell lies that even animals are beginning to agitate against. I still remember how amaechi lied during the apc campaign that buhari's cook was a christian and I marvel at the level of lieing that fathers and politicians have attained just to get power.i have never seen majority of nigerians pray for disintegration like I have seen in this government. Buhari says nigeria is not divisible yet you have turned a section of this nation to third class citizens in their own so country by rejecting them in a glaring manner.this is slavery and it is an abomination particularly in a 21st century.buhari its so obvious that you hate ibos with a passion and do the needful by sending us away from nigeria. Racism is even better than what igbos go through in nigeria at least oyibo shows respect but in my own so called nigeria, the leader who is supposed to build bridges is treating the igbos with disgust and disdain.Marriage is and can never be compulsory. I have always been an advocate of one nigeria but with what I see, , corruption fight highly selective and targeted more at a particular section of the country I only see a shredded nigeria. There was indeed a country.

Christianity EtcRe: UN: Taking Children To Church Violates Their Human Rights by ngoziama: 5:56pm On Jul 10, 2016
falcon01:
Reports have it that a recent United Nations document condemned teaching kids about God saying it’s a violation of their human rights.
The UN Committee report on the rights of children indicated that such things like taking your child to church and schools where they’re forced to partake in Christian meetings is violating their human rights.
The document likened teaching kids Christianity to child labor. As learnt, it was complied by a group of ‘independent experts of high moral character’. Group members representing various countries demanded of the world to rise against laws enforcing daily acts of Christian worship at schools.
To them, such and similar religious enforcement, are capable of hampering on a child’s freedom of thought, conscience and religion.
Although the report was specifically meant to highlight possible ways Britain is violating the UN’s charter on the Rights of the Child, it made inferences to the world at large.
An excerpt from the document said: “the Committee is concerned that pupils are required by law to take part in a daily religious worship. Which is, wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character in publicly funded schools in England and Wales. And, that children do not have the right to withdraw from such worship without parental permission before entering the sixth form.”
With the above, the Committee recommended that “the State party repeal legal provisions for compulsory attendance at collective worship in publicly funded schools and ensure that children can independently exercise the right to withdraw from religious worship at school.”
Already, parents can withdraw their children from collective worship in Britain. The Committee however, wants to hand the kids the right to take decision in this regard themselves. Many have lashed the report asking the compilers to honorably trash it. For instance, Parliament Minister David Burrowes said: “the collective act of worship is not an indoctrination exercise. It is recognizing and respecting the Christian heritage of the country and giving people an opportunity to reflect before the beginning of the day.”
Among other things, the document demanded of the British government to crush domestic abuse and protect kids from being spanked by their parents.

Parliament minister david, God bless you and your family.your entire genenerations shall be blessed and great.now I know why britain still have sanity in schools and its environs.this is because they commit the days activities first into the hands of God Almighty. As for the bunch of animals that carried out research on this, you remain a terror and threat to human race.soon you shall all be taught a lesson by that Almighty Creator that you have decided to speak against.joblessness has also creeped into UN because this is the most useless research ever to be carried out by some bunch of animals.you better carry out a research and also let muslims know the implication of teaching children islam too and considering the rate at which recruitment into ISIS has increased. If you are not comfortable with that owithdraw your child from the school. BRITAIN, dont ever cow in to such demands from these unbelievers, keep up the good work.can they ever give such report in saudi because Christians are everything calm and leave everything in Gods hands. Give such report about islam and see how fire would have been roasting some UN houses.
Look at USA that has ignored the Christian religion on which America was founded and let me know how life in the US is especially amongst the children and youths.
