I am of the opinion that there should be a general thread for Visa enquiries. Questions bothering on general visa questions can be dropped therein.

A lot posters just open up threads to ask a single line of question, and off they go never to return to the same thread again, and then again another new poster comes with the same thread asking the same question over again. If there is a general thread for such, it will create some form of sanity on our beloved travel section. While there is a general UK Visa Appeal thread meant for Visa Appeal Issues, it can tend to be confusing for posters to know which is more appropiate, however I am of the idea that a general Visa Enquiry thread should exist to make things more neat on the forum.

I am also of the opinion it can be used to raise awareness to new Visa Immigration Rules and Policies in the UK as it often changes over time.

Therefore, I am in full support of the opening of the thread.

Thanks.

@Siena
Smart idea. I totally agree with you. Pataki has said it all.

Few days ago, someone was still asking for the requirements for visiting visa and even the website to download the forms. A dedicated thread will definitely sort out such basic and simple issues.

@Jah
I do not think the moderator is against anyone posting personal experiences or stories. We all learn from them.

However, they are numerous instances when an individual will post one or two advice on issues and the next thing, he leaves his phone number and details asking people to contact him. They are also cases where people come here and offer totally wrong and twisted advice. When they are corrected, the resort to dishing out insults. You will find numerous scenarios like these no the Uk Visa Appeal Thread.

Another reason why maybe Siena recommends just the five of us is probably because we are known for our consistency. No matter how busy our schedules are, we respond to all enquires. We state the truth with genuine sources to back it up, sometimes go the extra mile for people we do not know from Adam and we charge nobody a dime. Very few people are that consistent in this section.

I'm surprised my previous opinion on this thread has been removed  undecided.

This isn't my first experience & I don't think this is good for N'land.

Once a moderator does not agree with an opinion it gets deleted?

If this continues,I'll definitely review my membership of this once honourable forum.

Take things easy with Siena abeg. He has deleted some of my posts in this section ever since he became a moderator and he was party to my ban some weeks ago by Seun grin. All he is trying to do is to make the forum better for everyone.

Listed below are the basic requirements for a UK family visit visa.

*Valid international passport.
*Six months bank statement-try to avoid lump deposit of money.
*Photocopies of the applicant's I.D card-school id, work id,nysc id, etc.
*Covering letter from the bank confirming the authenticity of the bank statement.
*Letter of identification from employer or from applicant's university or school.
*Letter of annual leave or vacation or 'permission to travel' from employer or applicant's school.
*Tax clearance certificate of the applicant or that of the sponsor.
*Invitation letter from relative in UK clearly stating his home address and telephone number, nature of relationship to applicant, purpose of the visit, etc.
*Coloured copy of sponsor's biodata passport page.
*Utility bills of the sponsor or applicants <not really necccessary though.
*Mortgage or tenancy deeds of sponsor
*Six months payslips of sponsor
*Property deeds of the applicant (if the applicant is a dependant, he should attach the property deeds of his parents)
*CSCS share certificates (i cant remember what it is called, but the pdocument from CSCS listing all the stocks and their value that an individual has in the Nigerian Stock Market)
*Any other financial document- bonds, fixed deposits, etc.

For UK tourist visa ( in cases where the applicant has nobody inviting him or her, it is still the same basic requirements as above. Just that he is not required to present any letter of invitation from anyone in UK. All that has to be done is a valid hotel reservation. Please, note that this hotel reservation must be done in a city in United Kingdom that is synonymous with MAJOR tourist attractions. To aid the application, the applicant can also make a one tour booking or bus ride around the major tourist attractions in UK and attach it to his application.

***i will keep updating this post when i remember any other requirements***

Why delete threads that haven't yet received answers. I sent in an important question which has yet to be answered and now it's been deleted. How can we look into the history so we don't have to ask the same questions again? Is there some kind of archive? I prefer reading old post because most of them already contain the answers.

And also talking of the visa experts, One does not need a confirmation/covering letter from the bank stating that the bank statement is real because the ECO will send an email to the bank themselves for confirmation of authenticity. you can imagine them relying on a letter of authenticity sent in by the applicant,
(It would then mean that all bank statements are real!)

Please, be freaking sure of what you are saying before you come here to post trash. Email ko, email nii. Is it banks like Union Bank that are always experiencing downtime and ATM rarely works how much more fully functional website or internet banking?

ECOs do not send emails to any bank. All they do is make a simple call to the department in charge of such enquiries. A bank like Union Bank even charges as much as 5,000 naira for that cover letter. Infact, it is even an ECO that is nice and has plenty time that calls the bank. They already have fraud experts that examine the bank statements.

In this age where ordinary inconsistencies in the COTs charged by the bank as it reflects on the bank statement are already instruments for refusal.Even people that are working in the banks themselves get covering letter for their statement of account.

Your arguement here is very dumb. It is like saying why should your employer give you a covering letter to the embassy identifying you as his staff when you already have an ID card,  Huh??

Why i am even clarifying issues with you? Take a good read at the UK VISA APPEAL thread and you will read various testimonies from people where their account have been declared forged when they were not.

Besides, it is not compulsory to submit whatsoever requirements i listed here, if you do not find them useful, waka pass abeg, or i am the one you are paying the visa application fee to

There will most definately be people here that will find it extremely useful.

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries by funkybaby(f): 1:34am On Apr 18, 2008
@MC Omo

That is really not a nice thing to say.

First, you said 'they are forming clique in travel section' now you claim posts are being deleted and you are talking about selective justice.

Read up, your very first post about the clique thing is still there. If the MOD was selective, he would have deleted it ages ago.

I really do not understand why people read unnecessary meanings to issues. Nobody is being paid a dime by seun or anyone to give free advice here.

Lets all be cooperative abeg and stop picking on unnecessary issues.

This section explains how you can apply to come to the United Kingdom to take part in voluntary work.

There is no provision under the immigration rules for voluntary workers to come to the United Kingdom. The information in this section is a concession outside the rules that has been made to support charity work and youth mobility.

As a voluntary worker there are strict rules on the type of work you can come to the United Kingdom to do and the length of time you can spend in the United Kingdom.

The voluntary worker category is a short-term immigration category. You will only be given permission to stay in the United Kingdom as a voluntary worker for a maximum of 12 months. At the end of this period you will need to return home. There is no limit to the number of times you can come to the United Kingdom as a voluntary worker, however you must not stay longer than 12 months on any visit and you must not plan to live permanently in the United Kingdom.

If you are currently in the United Kingdom under a different immigration category you will be able to extend your stay to undertake voluntary work if you meet all the eligibility requirements for the voluntary worker category

Eligibility

A passenger seeking leave to enter to undertake voluntary work must be able to show that:
♦ the activity is purely voluntary and does not involve taking up a salaried post or permanent position of any kind within the charitable organisation or entering into any arrangement that is likely to constitute a contract of employment (see Note on National Minimum Wage Legislation, point (ii) below); and

♦ the activity is either for a charitable organisation listed in ANNEX B or a registered charity or recognised body (see below) whose work meets the criteria set out in this instruction; and

♦ the activity is unpaid, or is not likely to be subject to payment of the National Minimum Wage [see note below on National Minimum Wage exemptions for voluntary workers and residential members of religious and other communities, which are registered charities, whose work involves providing care] and directed towards a worthy cause; and

♦ it is closely related to the aims of the organisation; and

♦ it is fieldwork involving direct assistance to those the charitable organisation has been established to help; and

♦ that there are satisfactory arrangements for the passenger’s maintenance and accommodation in the United Kingdom; and

♦ that the passenger intends to leave the United Kingdom at the end of their stay.
NB Those who enter in the category may not during their stay have recourse to public funds, or engage in any work other than the voluntary activity for which they have been admitted.

You want to volunteer to work in the UK, read my next post.

Gaylord, I have never noticed your existence on nairaland. I have never addressed you on this forum, not until when I addressed Vicjustice on this forum and you came out of no where to state lies against my person. You have never been consistent to the travel section as an active poster. Digging into your post, I observed that you reside mainly in the forum games section where idiocy is allowed to reign supreme. I hardly go there to post as before.

How Pataki is giving you bullshit is simply astonishing!!!!!

I am more than convinced that you are no other than Vicjustice, a multiple identity user and confused being. You have been using the identities Armed Lion, Troubleone, gaylord, figurehead and there is another one which has a female identity attached to it which I cannot remember at the moment offhand.

There is no other nairaland member that leaves a space at the beginning of his/her sentences and paragraphs on nairaland except you!!!!! All your posts as Vicjustice bears me witness to such. You have done the same thing with your input here, as quoted above!!!! That is the only consistent thing with your inconsistent life!!! cheesy wink

The email address of Armed Lion is laviclove01@yahoo.com implying La~Vic(Vicjustice) love01.

You call yourself a Doctor, live up to that expectation.
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries by funkybaby(f): 10:07pm On Apr 18, 2008
@Vicjustice/Gaylord

You are a Doctor.

Pataki dont doubt him .

Doctor in International Drug Peddlering but his zone of specialisation is Europe and environs - notably Malta, The Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Croatia, Turkey, Greece, France, UK and not forgetting his present base-Ireland.

He started from Nigeria and he had a brief stint in Benin Republic. Oh! I forgot to mention Canada - 'business' carried him there as well.

Where is that his 'Life in various western countries' thread sef?
