Breaking news, chei ! Everywhere is flooding with the army right now. There is limited movement, vehicular and otherwise. . . .The kind of gunshots I'm hearing now is novel. The soldiers are heading to the kidnapper's camps.

Didn't you say you were leaving for Owerri?

I wish the soldiers the best of luck. They must ensure that the kids and other hostages come out alive. They should also smoke out the criminals and their sponsors/barons and not use this as an opportunity to abuse or extort money from innocent citizens.

Exactly my initial thoughts. It's still nice to know though that we can get live on-ground updates of the goings on.

he will soon fall in to start talking out of the other side of his mouth

all those daft arguments for it being something the police are supposed to handle - he's probably reediting them as we speak

You seem to have just paradropped from outer space into Naija. If so, ask the inhabitants about what efforts the police had made and failed in curbing the kidnap issue.

That is some dead serious chit going down all around you, Slap1.

Travel with care, and keep your hands in plain sight as you approach roadblocks, because those troops will be on a hair-trigger nervous edge.

Keep us informed on your moblie. It is not often that Nairaland is fed a front-line breaking story, from the scene as it unfolds.

Oh oh. not another one. Nigeria seems to be filled with these one time failed NECO applicants. must i always explain in detail for some people to understand the hidden message? okay i will. the message is; why would the police fail? if not for the stu.pidity of government in not equiping them in the first place. people live in a state and nobody knows how many, who they are and where they come from. no means of tracking anything or anybody. and 2; why must you use the army with no investigative record or means. people who are supposed to defend the borders are now doing the jobs of cops. They are definitely going to round up the good the bad and the ugly not to mention the innocent. phew. I hope you get it now.

follow the track record in all situations where the government have utilised the army and tell me if this has brought lasting solution to any crisis in Nigeria. where will they start the investigation? you and i know their "investigative" technique involves rounding up everybody and trying to beat the truth out.

abeg this is not the time to trade blame or analyse failures of the system,it's evident that the problem in Aba has gone beyond what the police can handle and a state of emergency is the last resort.I'm talking about constitution demands and not what you feel is wrong or right.
