A woman and her four children have been reportedly killed by air strikes from fighter jets targeting bandits at Sububu, in Zamfara State.

According to a Daily Trust report, the aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force was targeting bandits at the expansive Sububu Forest located between Shinkafi and Maradun Local Governments when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to the report, the fighter jets missed their targets by dropping the bombs on the Sububu village, rather than the bandits’ enclave in the forest.

“The bombs killed a woman and her four children. Two of the kids, a boy and a girl, were teenagers. One elderly woman was also wounded in the attacks,” a Sububu resident said.

However, while NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the multiple airstrikes on the area, he did not mention the deaths of the victims.

His statement only mentioned that the military carried out “the precision airstrikes on the armed bandits after an intelligence and identification of the locations to avoid collateral damages.”

I'm a realist. I don't make up fairy tales in my head to make me believe that such a trial would be anywhere near a fair one. You have the a man, who jumped bail (a criminal offence), flouted all of his bail conditions, escaped to another country and started a violent uprising in his region leading to numerous murders. He manages to somehow get captured and his fate is to be decided by the very people with whom there only exists profound mutual hatred, and then you somehow expect a fair trial? Fair trail of Kanu by Buhari? For which dimension?
I believe the only reason his capture was announced was only to gloat over the fact. Else, they'd simply have put a bullet in his skull after extracting necessary information and buried him in a drum filled with wet concrete and be done with it the moment they found him.

Jihadists in Niger Republic have wiped out all the male Christians in Fantio and Dolbel, two towns in the Tillabéri region in the south west.

Survivors of the attack, a group of women, with small children and babies fled to the Dori region of Burkina Faso.

AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED (ACN), which reported the attacks, quoted the women as saying the terrorists attacked the towns twice, killing the men.

The two towns were abandoned by the rest of the inhabitants.

In Fantio, the jihadists took a statue of the Virgin Mary, liturgical books and musical instruments and burned them.

They then desecrated the Blessed Sacrament by throwing the sacred hosts on the ground and finally setting the church on fire.

This is the third parish in this part of Niger that has been abandoned due to terrorist attacks and incursions by extremist groups.

The International Human Rights Commission based in Geneva has admitted receiving no fewer than 25 petitions from individuals and groups worldwide in respect of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was recently re-arrested and repatriated to Nigeria to face trial over alleged treasonable felony.

The International human rights body said in a statement dated July 7, 2021 and seen by Vanguard on Monday night that majority of the petitions, which came from Nigeria, urged it to conduct an independent inquiry into human rights violations and possible breaches to established international and regional diplomatic protocols.

The statement which was signed by the IHRC’s Special Envoy for Africa Region, Evans M. Mutavi, and International President for Kenya, said that it accordingly, conducted an independent investigation into the matter and found out that there was no violation of Nnamdi Kanu’s human rights in the events leading to his re-arrest and repatriation to Nigeria.

“The IHRC is committed to safeguarding the rights of citizens across the globe in line with the organization’s core mandate,” the agency said.

“The commission upon investigation is unable to establish a case of human rights violation of Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya by the special Police Forces

“The Commission is convinced that the Kenyan Government played no official role in the event that led to Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest.

“The Commission expects the Nigerian Government to follow up the trial of Nnamdi Kanu in line with the country’s laws and respect to human rights.

“The commission has resolved to monitor the trial of Nnamdi Kanu to ensure his human rights are not violated by the Nigerian Government,” the IHRC stated.
