Thanks guys! I'll post about my experiences when I get to Chicago next week.
Travel / Advice Needed: First International Flight, Lagos To JFK, Emirates by nigerianphoenix: 1:32pm On Sep 10, 2013
Hello everyone.
In a few days, I will be traveling to the U.S. I have no experience with international flights. Can you guys tell me what to expect on the flight and at both airports? Which documents should I take with me? I'm flying with emirates airlines. This means that I'll have a layover in Dubai. Any advice for me regarding that? I'll also take a flight to O'Hare from JFK. How do I move from one terminal to another in JFK? Any miscellaneous advice for me?
Thanks!

Travel / Re: Many Nigerians Living In Nigeria Hate Nigerians In Diaspora, Jealous Much? by nigerianphoenix: 2:43pm On Aug 27, 2013
It pains me to see Nigerians in diaspora spew bile on this forum regularly. Yes, we know that Nigeria has serious problems. We know that Nigeria is leagues behind other nations. But, we also know that every problem can be fixed. Nigeria is 53 years old; the United States is centuries old. Nigerians are the only ones who can solve Nigeria's problems. How will that happen if all Nigerians become foreigners? Yes, you've stayed in Germany for 10 years. Yes, your husband is Italian. That doesn't change the fact that Nigeria is your homeland.
Tl;dr We, Nigerians in Nigeria, absolutely do not hate you. Now, I'm going to speak for myself. The only problem I have with a few Diasporans is that they have forgotten their roots. After arriving in 'The land of the free', they forget about their homeland and abandon it. If you don't belong to this category, then I am totally fine with you.

People own fires? Or are you talking about firearms? I won't need those, hopefully.
Travel / Re: Title? by nigerianphoenix: 3:34pm On Aug 13, 2013
Hello everyone!
First of all, anyone in Chicago? I leave in a few weeks. Although I've done all the necessary research, I'd still like a first-hand account of what to expect when I arrive.
Secondly, I just started preparing to pack (I've been procastinating for months), and I'm a bit confused about which items are important and which ones I can purchase in the U.S. What did you take with you? And, what do you wish that you had taken with you?
Thirdly, I haven't been on an international flight before. What should I prepare for?
Finally, does anyone know about the laws regarding carrying prescription medication into the united states?
Thanks in advance for your answers!

She's like a doll! But, I'd be scared to carry her. What if she falls or slips off? It could be fatal.

Crime / Re: George Zimmermann Is Found NOT GUILTY Of Killing Trayvon Martin by nigerianphoenix: 11:12am On Jul 14, 2013
Calm down. I am not saying that Zimmerman is innocent. I know that I was just as outraged as you are now when I heard the verdict. My point is that the prosecution did not present their case properly. Trayvon Martin did not receive justice and that sucks. But, if the jury based its decision on their convictions rather than the evidence presented in court, innocent people would be sent to jail. The Martin family should appeal the decision, and hopefully, the prosecutors will do a better job- without shaky witnesses like Rachel Jeantel and false evidence.
Crime / Re: George Zimmermann Is Found NOT GUILTY Of Killing Trayvon Martin by nigerianphoenix: 9:52am On Jul 14, 2013
I think the prosecution depended too much on the fact that public opinion was firmly on Trayvon's side. They didn't present a really strong case. And, the Racheal Jeantel debacle was just smh inducing. In my opinion, Zimmerman is screwed anyways. He had two options- A guilty verdict would put him in jail for life, and the not guilty verdict would send him out into a world where most people believe that he is a racist cold blooded murderer. The justice system did its duty. It has to work this way or innocent people with shaky cases and public opinion against them would be sent to jail

BBA is marketing sexual promiscuity. I really don't understand why people watch that show. I tried to figure it out one day, and I got bored within ten minutes.

Thanks everyone! I just picked up my passport, but the visa will expire in 2015. I'll graduate in 2017. Is this normal, or is there a mistake in the visa?

VO: Hi! How are you?
Me: Fine, thank you.
VO: Pass me your documents
(he looks through the documents and types some things on the computer. Another VO walks up to him and they discuss something for about a minute)
VO: Sorry for the delay. So you're applying for a student visa?
Me: Yes, I am
VO: And you're going to <insert name of top 5 US university here>
Me: Yes, I am.
VO: That's a great school
Me: (smiling) Thank you (Don't ask me what I was thanking him for. I was nervous)
VO: And they gave you great financial aid. Why do you think they did that?
Me: It was based on academic merit and financial need.
VO: You want to study liberal arts and sciences.
Me: Well, yes. But, I plan to major in biological chemistry with a focus on endocrinology.
VO: Wow, and what will you use that for?
Me: I want to work on the use of hormonal therapy to cure psychological disorders such as schizophrenia.
VO: (Nods.) That's great. So you're 17?
Me: yes, I am.
VO: (Looks behind me) And that's your dad?
Me: Yes.
VO: Ok. Congratulations. Your visa application has been approved. And you can soo sooo (I stopped listening after congratulations)
Me: Thank you very much

How do I compare prices and book my flight to the USA?

P.S: This is my sneaky way of telling you guys that my visa application was approved in Abuja today. The interview didn't take more than one minute.

My post was hidden. What is wrong with sharing my experiences with paying my SEVIS fee through a 'non-profit' organization? I think my previous questions and posts more than prove that I am a genuine visa applicant and not a scammer. I paid for my SAT examination through them too. I am more than a little annoyed at this

The girl was molested, and you people are castigating her for asking for an ipad? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Girlfriend or not, rape is rape. He hit her with a mop, molested her, and spread naked pictures of her. How is he the victim? The sheer misogyny being displayed on this thread is astounding.

So, I have two questions:
1. Do I need to take photocopies of my documents to the visa interview?
2. My school put in 'Liberal Arts And Sciences' but I have a prospective major at the moment. If the VO asks me what major I want to pursue, what should I say?

Hello again,
My school resumes in mid-august. In my DS-160, I stated that I would be travelling in early August. I want to participate in a special community service pre-orientation program. Will this disparity between the dates pose a problem during my interview?

hello!
I lost my original SAT score report, but I have a photocopy and the printout from the internet. Will the VOs accept this? Especially since I only have a printout of the Toefl result too. I took the test recently and I have not yet received the official report
