Key facts, 70% of America's active nuclear arsenal are on these silent and deadly submarines, not on land in the US, meaning the deadly nukes are currently and silently at the front doors and striking distance of their enemies or potential threats all over the world, when you send nukes to the US, back to sender won't be traveling to you from the US, it's already right there next to you.
Each of the 14 submarines carries 240 warheads, enough to vaporize many countries. |
Foreign Affairs › Inside The Submarine Capable Of Launching Nuclear Missiles. by NigerianSage(op): 3:39am On May 20, 2022 |
[quote]America's main nuclear deterrent glides undetected under the oceans as it carries a cargo of ballistic missiles that will hopefully never be used. Off the coast of Hawaii, ABC News visited the USS Maine, one of 14 Ohio Class U.S. Navy submarines capable of launching nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles.
Measuring two football fields in length and weighing 18,000 tons, the massive submarine carries 20 Trident 2 D5 missiles capable of striking targets up to 4,000 miles away. Each missile is capable of holding up to 12 nuclear warheads -- one reason why these submarines are able to carry about 70% of the nation's active nuclear arsenal allowed by the New START Treaty.Martha Raddatz walks past four story tall missile tubes that contain Trident II missiles. "I'd say it's the most powerful force in the world right now," Vice Adm. Bill Houston, the commander of the U.S. Navy's Submarine Forces, told ABC News.
But in keeping with U.S. policy, Houston could neither confirm nor deny whether there were missiles with nuclear warheads aboard the submarine.Developed at the height of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, the submarines have continued with their classified missions, serving as a key part of America's nuclear triad that includes strategic bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) housed in the western plains states.Recent comments by Russian leaders about their strategic nuclear capabilities following the invasion of Ukraine have shined a spotlight on America's nuclear deterrence mission. Houston characterized comments by Russian leaders about Russia's nuclear weapons capability as "very dangerous," "irresponsible" and "unprofessional.""It gives more meaning to this mission," said Houston. "But we view our mission as a peace mission, purely defensive is what we do." A main part of why Ohio Class submarines are a powerful nuclear deterrent is because they are undetectable in vast stretches of ocean, To stay hidden, the submarine will surface very rarely -- if at all -- during what could be a months-long patrol underwater.
"This submarine, once it's underwater, it will not be detected," said Houston. "It is the one portion of our deterrent that will always be available if needed."And maintaining that deterrent means that not even senior military leaders will know where the submarine is at any given time. That's a privilege available only to the submarine's senior leaders.
The crew will regularly train for the unthinkable, like the launch of nuclear-armed missiles in a retaliatory strike against a country that has carried out a strategic attack against the United States.ABC News was allowed to witness a simulated launch exercise where redundancies are an integral security measure intended to ensure the validity of a presidential order to launch missiles. "United States policy is not to aim our missiles at any adversary or any country," said Cmdr. Darren Gerhardt. "If we said they're targeted, they would be pointing to the spot in the ocean. They don't go anywhere." Living with the Trident missiles is also a regular part of life for the 150 sailors on the submarine. The sailors have to maneuver their way through hallways lined by 24 missile tubes that house ICBMs. The missiles are also located near the sleeping berths. Crew members carry out their assignments in shifts with some gathering for breakfast at 3 a.m. With the submarine operating hundreds of feet below the surface, the crew has little awareness about what is going on in the world. At times the submarine will come up to periscope depth to receive satellite signals for updates on what's going on in the world. But that maneuver carries risk.
"But when I do come up to periscope depth that makes me vulnerable," said Gerhardt. "So I have to minimize the amount of times I do that."And when the crew returns to their families, "we're catching up on several months' worth of information that we missed," Gerhardt said. Both Houston and Gerhardt said they're used to this life under the sea. "I would say this is where we're more comfortable," said Houston. "A pilot likes to be in the air. We like to be under the sea." https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/inside-submarine-capable-launching-nuclear-missiles/story?id=84832056&cid=social_twitter_abcn
OhMyG0d: Mister, I've gone beyond all these fooleries above. Ah ha!!! You lots are just hell bent on forcing us all to reason like a fool. Expecting us to believe that Russia can not defeat small Ukraine because of brotherhood after slaughtering Ukrainians, raping and pillaging their society, and going on and on about Russia's military power that can not even defeat a small country like Ukraine will defeat NATO. So, who is trying to force other people to reason like fools? Come back to brag when Russia defeats small Ukraine. |

OhMyG0d: The only thing holding Russia back from leveling Ukraine is brotherhood. The way you will beat someone from your family will be different from how you will beat someone from another family. Ukraine-Russia-Belorussia are brothers literally. Besides, it's not a war but a military campaign.
You see, the only thing holding NATO and US back from confronting Russia directly rather than using Ukraine as a front, is because of some weapons that they have no answer to in Russian's arsenal. No one want a Poseidon torpedo, Sarmat, ISKANDER, Buresvetnik, zircon, avangard, kinzhal etc facing their countries. Besides, no one knows yet how to overcome the S400 not to mention S500. If it was any other country that tried what Russia did, US and NATO would have invaded such country. But with Russia, not even a combined 34 countries including the US, UK, Germany, France have the gut to sneeze at Russia. What kind of brother invades his brother's house, slaughters his brother's family, rapes his brother's wife and children, pillaged and levels his house with brutal rage and abandonment. May God almighty never give us you and Putin's kind of brotherhood. Amen, It's always comical reading the endless flowery and dramatized imagery of Russia's power and military arsenal when in fact the whole world is looking at a very weak, poorly trained, poorly led, poorly equipped and badly demoralized Russian military that can not defeat s small country, a small country with little or no serious military capabilities a few months ago, a small country that fought Russia to a standstill with just drones and Javlines, a small country that killed 12 Russian generals, 40 colonels, killed thousands of Russian troops, destroyed thousands of military hardware, sank Russian flagship and other warships with ease.. This is what the world is looking at, but some of you are so detached from reality that your only explanation for Russia's abysmal and pathetic performance in Ukraine and why the same Russia that you praise so much as a wonderful military power still can not defeat a small country with fewer resources and arsenal like Ukraine. Btw, must the west respond by invading Ukraine or throwing deadly missiles at each other when there are more than a million ways to cripple Russia without firing a single bullet? |

Over the past two weeks, Berlin has delivered thousands of anti-tank mines and portable anti-tank guided missile [ATGM] systems to Kyiv. The German newspaper SPIEGEL wrote about the new shipment, specifying the information with exact numbers and models of weapons: 1,600 anti-tank mines DM22, 3,000 anti-tank mines DM31, and 2,450 portable anti-tank guided missile systems RGW 90, better known among the German troops as Matador ATGM.
Germany supplies DM22/31 off-road 40m range anti-tank mines to Ukraine
SPIEGEL writes that Ukraine has paid for the production and supply of RGW 90, as the Ukrainian authorities have agreed directly with the manufacturer, which for Germany is Dynamit Nobel Defense [DND]. As for the anti-tank mines, SPIEGEL writes that Ukraine most likely received them as a donation from the stocks in the inventory of the German army.
More about DM-22 and DM-31
The captured mines DM-22 and DM-31 are part of the so-called PARM series – off-road German mines, which are constructed with small stabilizing fins. This type of mine was developed in the 80s of the last century. From 1983 to 1988 various tests were conducted, after the elevation in the late 80s, the mines were put into operation.
PARM series mines come in two varieties, PARM 1 and PARM 2. PARM 1 entered service with the Garman Army in the 1990s, and unofficial information says that about 25,000 units have been delivered.
The main difference between PARM 1 and PARM 2 is that PARM2 incorporates an infrared sensor into its design, as well as an improved missile. Both types of mines are mounted on a tripod that can rotate 360 degrees and be raised at a 90-degree angle. The mine is placed manually and includes a five-minute delay before it is launched.
The range of such mines is from 2 to 40 meters. The missile moves at an approximate speed of 120 meters per second and is capable of piercing 600 millimeters of armor. PARM 2 has an increased range of up to 100 meters. The warhead of this missile has been modernized and the armor penetration has been increased to 750 mm armor.
MATADOR RGW90
In the version currently available on the market, the RGW90 HH [HEAT / HESH] A2 uses a dual-mode mono-shaped charge warhead and can therefore also be used against armored vehicles. The weapon is capable of breaking through a triple brick wall.
Ukraine buys 90mm MATADOR RGW90 with dual-mode mono shaped charge
The weapon, which weighs about eight kilograms, can pierce more than 600 millimeters of armored steel at a range of 500 meters – with a probability of hitting more than 90 percent of NATO’s standard target of 2.3 meters x 2.3 meters. Works perfectly in the temperature range from -46 ° C to + 71 ° C.
The weapon was designed in the 99th century and entered service in 2000. MATADOR RGW90 is produced in three places – Germany, Israel, and Singapore. Interestingly, the war in Ukraine was the first documented case in which the MATADOR RGW90 was used in full-scale military operations. However, Israel often uses RGW90 to drill walls for Israeli troops to pass through during its military operations in the Gaza Strip.

So,, it is NATO fighting a Proxy War with Russia. 1. Ukrainian military or NATO or is it even the poorly trained, poorly equipped, and demoralized Russian troops? 2. You just contradicted yourself again by saying even though NATO is sending weapons to Ukraine, it is Ukrainians that are doing the fighting. 3. Now, this is the most important flaw in your flawed thinking and argument, are you saying the Javelins, drones, and artillery pieces that the West is sending to Ukraine means Ukraine is more powerful than Russia and Russia can not defeat Ukraine because of common Javelins, drones and artilleries.? 4. Your are poorly defending Putin, in fact, you are making him look weak and the Russian military useless and incapable of fighing a small enemy because or ordinary Javelins and drones. Or Javelines and Turkish drones erased Russia's overwhelming many times more powerful arsenal? You see now why I keep saying you hardly nake sense? Foreign Affairs › China Cut Tech Exports To Russia After U.s.-led Sanctions Hit. by NigerianSage(op): 3:29am On May 19, 2022 |
Chinese shipments of laptops to Russia fell by 40 percent in March compared with February, while exports of smartphones were off by two-thirds, she said, citing the most recently available Chinese trade data. Exports of telecommunications network equipment fell 98 percent, she added.
Whether China is willing to help Russia withstand sanctions has been an open question for Western policymakers. The export figures, which were previously reported by The Wall Street Journal, suggest Beijing was at least initially reluctant to break the rules, perhaps out of fear of U.S. retaliation, which could involve restricting tech sales to Chinese companies.
The sanctions on Russia require companies worldwide to abide by the ban if they use U.S. manufacturing equipment or software to produce computer chips, which are also known as semiconductors. Most chip factories around the world, including those in China, use software or equipment designed in the United States, analysts say.
“I’m often asked, you know, are these export controls working? And I think the answer is an unmitigated, unqualified yes,” Raimondo said. “I think they’re working because we have such a strong coalition of countries around the world participating in enforcing.”
Computer chip industry begins halting deliveries to Russia in response to U.S. sanctions
The United States and 37 other countries designed the trade restrictions to cripple Russia’s military and high-tech economy after the country’s invasion of Ukraine. The rules ban the sale of computer chips, telecommunications equipment, lasers, avionics and maritime technology to many Russian buyers.
There are signs the restrictions also are undermining Russia’s ability to manufacture at least some military equipment. Last week, Raimondo told a Senate committee that Ukrainian officials had reported finding computer chips intended for household appliances in Russian military gear. Raimondo’s spokeswoman later clarified that the makeshift chips were found in tanks.
Douglas Fuller, a semiconductor expert at City University of Hong Kong, said that’s less strange than it might seem. A type of semiconductor known as a microcontroller is used to control various functions in both appliances and motorized vehicles, he said. Since tanks are essentially armored autos, the chips probably could be used to control the same functions they do in cars, such as braking and steering, he said.
The export bans were not meant to block sales to Russia of consumer goods such as smartphones and laptops. But trade lawyers say some companies have stopped delivering electronic goods to Russia altogether, regardless of whether individual items violate the rules.
“Many companies are just shutting down exports to Russia. Period,” said Kevin Wolf, a former senior Commerce Department official who is now a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
That differs from Western tech companies’ approach to an earlier U.S. rule banning tech exports to Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications manufacturer, which the United States accused of threatening U.S. national security. In that case, computer chip manufacturers and other companies asked their lawyers to pore over the rules to determine which sales were still allowed.
A variety of big tech companies — in the United States, South Korea and even China — have said they would halt sales to or suspend business in Russia over the war.
China’s DJI, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial drones, said in April it was suspending operations in Ukraine and Russia, becoming the first major Chinese company to openly quit the markets over a war that China’s government has refused to condemn.
Apple in March said it was pausing all product sales in Russia. Days later Samsung also suspended all product sales, including smartphones and computer chips.
Apple, Samsung and China’s Xiaomi were the top three smartphone companies in Russia in the first quarter as measured by shipments, according to the latest figures from International Data Corp. (IDC).
Xiaomi did not immediately respond to a request for comment on its sales to Russian buyers.
Huawei, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of telecommunications network equipment, declined to say whether it has reduced sales to Russia, though the near total collapse of such equipment sales in March suggests that it did.
“Our hearts go out to the people who are suffering as a result of this conflict,” spokesman Glenn Schloss said in an email. “We are evaluating the impact of related policies. It is Huawei’s policy to comply with applicable laws and regulations of the countries and regions in which we operate.” Even if some tech companies are not directly selling in Russia anymore, their products still could make it there through the gray market, said Nabila Popal, research director for the global device market at IDC.
“Savvy traders will find a way to get them in,” she said.
Exports to Russia from a variety of countries have fallen sharply, Raimondo said. U.S. shipments in tech categories subject to export controls have decreased by 86 percent. South Korea’s exports to Russia have fallen by 62 percent and Finland’s are down by 60 percent, she said.

What you should say is that, Turkey simply wants finland and sweden to outlaw the pkk group that have been terrorizing turkey for years. Turkey will achieve their aim when Finland and sweden shift ground, and they will eventually be admitted into NATO You are right and at the end of the day, Turkey will cave in after negotiations and some give and take, that's for sure. This is one of the reasons why the EU is still reluctant to let Turkey into the EU, their shared values and commitments to EU ideals are not the same. The EU made a terrible mistake with their unanimous votes requirements, a simple majority could have sufficed. Finland and Sweden are NATO partners and they've been for decades, they train with NATO, they deploy together, they share intelligence and coordinate their security activities, joining NATO today is nothing but formalities and signing papers.
Both countries know Russia very well, they know what's going on inside Russia especially Finland because they are NATO's closest intelligence outpost to Russia.
While Putin was busy doing gra gra over the years, Finland and Sweden were preparing and getting ready for today's event because they saw it coming.
Finland is a country of only 5 million people, but they have a more trained and combat-ready population than countries with many times their population. |

Excuzeme: Is America a member of the European Union, what is its Business in a War between Russia and Ukraine? - Why is America spending $15Billion, plus another $40Billion in weapons to assist Ukraine? - Why is America providing accurate GPS Location Data of Russian Assets (Weapons, Tanks, even Senior Officers) to Ukrain, who then use it in targeting Russian Assets? - Why is the UK living next door to Ukraine and if not, why is it trying to go bankrupt in supplying weapons and Mercenaries to Ukraine? - What about Germany who had to change its laws, so it can supply weapons to Ukraine? - Did Russia attack Poland? If not, why did Poland send all its 27 Pieces of MiG Fighter Jets to NATO European headquarters in Germany, for them to be sneaked into Ukraine, to aid Ukraine in the fight?
What is the common denominator in all these? Answer: America is the head of NATO, UK is ranked next, then Germany and so many other members like Poland that are arming Ukraine and sanctioning Russia and stealing Russian Wealth.
So, it is a No-Brainer to see that this War, though between Russia and Ukraine on the surface, it is actually a War between Russia and NATO, judging from the above analysis.
So, for those abusing Russia that "small Ukraine" has given it a lot of difficulty, l ask them to be honest with themselves. Its like the Mob that killed that Lady Deborah Samuel, in Sokoto! One Person can only do as much, when confronted with the strongest Power in the World and about 35 other mid-Power nations like Germany, UK, Italy, France, Japan, Canada, etc.
Despite all that, Russia is still standing firm on its objectives: - Neutralizing the Neo-Nazis in Ukraine (achieved today, with the final SURRENDER and CAPTURE of the Azorv Battalion, in the Arzov Steel Plant in Mariupol) - Preventing Ukraine from developing Nuclear and Biological Weapons to be used against Russia, with American Assistance( Achieved the the seizure and destruction of Ukrainian Weapons Labs and exposing their nefarious work at the United Nations, for the whole world). - Ensuring that the Donbas Region (Luhansk and Gdansk) is liberated, independent and rid of all the Neo-Nazis (In Progress at about 70% completion) - Ensure that Ukraine remains "Neutral and does not join NATO" (as l am writing this, l am not aware that Ukraine is a NATO member or has even "applied" to be so ) - Ensure that it will survive the sanctions imposed on it by the "Gang of NATO Mobsters" (though it has suffered a lot, due to the theft of its Foreign Reserves and other assets, by America, UK and European Countries, the ongoing Russo-phobia, etc, as of today, the Russian Ruble's value is FIVE TIMES its value before the Invasion, Enemy European countries are still dependent on Russian Energy, their Citizens are almost revolting due to the high price of Fuel/Gas and unprecedented Inflation and funnily enough, they are all paying for their Oil and gas in Rubles, as ordered by Putin.
Like they say, "Count your Blessings, One by One and it will surprise you what the Lord has done".
We may not like him, we may not like his style, we may be afraid of him (Russia), we may even be jealous of him(Russia), despite all that, one thing we cannot deny is that he has taken on Mighty-Mob NATO and still standing! It stakes strength and intelligence to survive such NATO, mob onslaught.
And please, while l dont mind you responding, kindly do it civilly, maturely and without insults, abuse and name-calling, as you will notice l did not insult you or anyone in my own response. It just does not show decency to be insulting people we dont know, not to mention that it distorts the discusiion. 1. Putin sent more fighters, more tanks, more military hardware and support infrastructure to Ukraine than the West sent to Ukraine. 2, Russia has over 3,000 aircraft, Ukraine has nothing and the west did not send any. 3. Russia has 2,500 cruise missiles, Ukraine has nothing and the West did not send any. 4. Russia has 1,500 combat helicopters, Ukrain has none and the West did not send any. 5. Russia has 6,000 artillery pieces. Ukraine has 1,800. 6. Russia has 36,000 armored vehicles, and Ukrain has 7,000 The list goes on.. Now, when people like you and other Putin fans go on and on about the West and 30 countries fighting Russia, you are basically scoring your own goal because regardless of the weapons the West sent to Ukraine, Russia retains the advantage many times over from land, sea to air. What killed Russia in Ukraine are MANPADS, basic shoulder-held weapons that decimated many Russian convoys, tanks, and supply lines. You are not making any sense because what the West sent to Ukraine is minuscule to Russia's arsenal. Ukrainians are doing more with less, they are better militarily and strategically, and they are more disciplined, more focused, more determined, and exceptionally good at what they do. You can take the horse to the stream, but you can not force the horse to drink, meaning even though the West sent weapons to Ukraine, Ukrainians did the fighting on their own. Putin fans are always scoring their own goals and turning their own logic upside down, even to make Russia look bad. |

Father4all: I hope you will fight for them when China attacks them? Rubbish Since Ukraine don render Russia and Putin weak and powerless in front of the world, you've abandoned Putin and moved to China to confront the West. |
