Crime / Thief Broke Into A Church In Uganda To Steal Money, then Wrote Apology Letter by nigeriapenmedia: 11:42pm On Jul 16, 2019
News By Nigeriapen.com.ng

A thief last Sunday night broke into a church in Nyandarua County, Uganda and then wrote a letter apologising for his action. This was after finding no cash in the church.

The incident comes a few months after members of the public lynched three suspected criminals specialising in stealing from the churches. During the Sunday incident at the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church in Engineer Township, the criminal wrote a letter addressed to the church regretting that he had found no money despite having been informed by a worshiper that some good amount of money had been left there.

“I was sent here by one of your fellow Christians who told me that the amount of money has been kept inside the church. But I got nothing. God bless you all and pray for me. Thanks,” read the letter. He then signed out as “the person who broke the church”.

See below. Rev Peter Wanyoike said the thief destroyed part of the church’s iron sheet walls to gain access.“We found the letter in the church when the police arrived to commence their investigations.

He believed there was some money in church; we have forgiven him. We are praying for him to get saved. He is welcome to confess and worship with us,” said Rev Wanyoike.

Worshipers also said they had forgiven the thief but expressed concern over rising cases of crimes targeting churches.“What shocks us most is the confession letter. He had all the time to rummage all over the church looking for the money and then write the confession letter in his own handwriting. He must have attended the church or has an informer.

Maybe it is only the timing that was wrong. He needs prayers,” said Faith Wairimu, a resident of Engineer town. Nyandarua Police Commander Gedion Ngumi, who confirmed the incident said they have started investigations.

Celebrities / “our Country Is Turning Into A Nightmare” – Runtown by nigeriapenmedia: 11:09pm On Jul 16, 2019
News By Nigeriapen.com.ng

Following the death of a cleaner who was shot by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Runtown has taken to his Twitter page to lament the menace of SARS operatives and lend his voice to the #EndSars movement.

In his Twitter thread, he wrote;

“What exactly is going on? How is it that after the several outcries and well documented incidences we are yet to curb this menace? The people are being pushed the wall. People cannot continue to lose their loved ones like this. This has to stop! This just has to STOP! #EndSARS

He continued: “How many more tweets do we have to put out? How many more hashtags do we have to push? How many more protests? How many more lives do we have to lose before something is done about SARS? This is not the Nigeria of our dreams. Our country is turning into a nightmare.”

Phones / Apple Restores Banned Parental Control App Ourpact To The App Store by nigeriapenmedia: 12:33am On Jul 14, 2019
TechNews By Topmag.pw

Today, Apple has restored ban on parental control app OurPact, allowing the ousted software to return to the App Store in its original form and without any limitations or restrictions. The move marks an end to a months-long dispute between Apple and a variety of parental control companies affected by Apple’s restrictions.

The fact that Apple removed or prevented updates to many of these apps (including OurPact) raised eyebrows because it allegedly stemmed from a sudden change in policy that reclassified the apps as unsafe, due to the technology they relied on for managing kids’ devices.

The issue was that these apps were using a suite of tools called MDM, or multi-device management, designed for management of hardware in IT and school environments. It was still allowed on the App Store in a variety of enterprise-level apps after Apple’s rule change, despite using the exact same technology and seemingly putting their users at the same purported risk.

ENDING MONTHS OF CONTROVERSY
Things came to a head right before Apple’s annual WWDC developer gathering, following a story in The New York Times that put a spotlight on the affected parental control app developers.

The report noted how Apple’s bans seemed to coincide with its own rollout of the built-in Screen Time parental control tool in iOS 12, suggesting Apple’s motives involved self-interest.

In response, Apple took the unusual step of publishing a letter from Phil Schiller, its longtime worldwide marketing chief, explaining that the apps “put users’ privacy and security at risk,” and therefore had to be removed.

A group of parental control app developers (including OurPact) then banded together to demand an API from Apple for their apps to function within iOS’s new limits, if they were to be permanently prevented from using the existing MDM tools.

Foreign Affairs / Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Off To Africa To Continue Princess Diana’s Work by nigeriapenmedia: 7:33am On Jun 12, 2019
News By Nigeriaapen.com.ng

Now that baby Archie is here, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning a trip to Africa to help continue Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana’s legacy. As part of their Autumn tour, Harry will travel to Angola where Diana visited in January 1997, just months before her death.

According to Daily Mirror, Palace aides are investigating Angola’s security situation to see if Meghan Markle and newborn son Archie will be able to join Harry in Angola as he fulfils his mother’s legacy by continuing the important work by the HALO Trust.

However, they are expected to travel together for at least some of the African tour, which will also take them to Malawi to expand the reach of his charity Sentebale, possibly also South Africa and Botswana. In 2017 on International Mine Awareness Day, Harry said his mother’s work on banning landmines in the last months of her life “wasn’t universally popular”.

He added: “Some believed she had stepped over the line into the arena of political campaigning – but for her this wasn’t about politics; it was about people.” Harry continued: “She knew she had a big spotlight to shine, and she used it to bring attention on the people that others had forgotten, ignored or were too afraid to support.” Advisors of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are working on a tailored role for the couple with the help of Sir David Manning, a former ambassador to the US, and Lord Geidt, the Queen’s former private secretary who chairs the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.

Harry’s first step will be next Monday to attend a Chatham House Africa Programme event on ‘Mine Clearance, Conservation, and Economic Development in Angola’, Buckingham Palace confirmed today.

The event is being held in partnership with the HALO Trust, with the Angolan Government about to provide £44 million of funding to clear landmines in two national parks, a major opportunity for the conservation of southern Africa’s last great wilderness.

The Africa Programme event will highlight the connection between conservation, economic development, and mine clearance, with a call to action for increased funding for mine clearance efforts in Angola, Daily Mirror reports.

Foreign Affairs / White House Budget Chief Officially Looks To Delay Huawei Restrictions by nigeriapenmedia: 11:08pm On Jun 11, 2019

The Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russell T. Vought sent an Official letter to VP Mike Pence and members of Congress requesting a delay in the implementation of the forthcoming Huawei restriction.

The Letter was Sent on June 4 and since obtained by The Wall Street Journal, the letter asks for delay in certain key parts of the Trump-signed National Defense Authorization Act that has caused the smartphone maker to be barred from doing business in the U.S.

“While the Administration recognizes the importance of these prohibitions to national security,” Vought writes, “a number of agencies have heard significant concerns from a wide range of potentially impacted stakeholders who would be affected.”

The U.S. has long contended that the source of its issues with the smartphone and telecom hardware giant has ties to the Chinese government that present security risks for the U.S. Huawei, meanwhile, has chalked up the competition to political and anticompetitive practices.

Treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin, meanwhile, sent some mixed signals about the situation in a recent Reuters interview.

“I think what the president is saying is, if we move forward on trade, that perhaps he’ll be willing to do certain things on Huawei if he gets comfort from China on that and certain guarantees,” he told the outlet. “But these are national security issues.”

If implemented, the delay would certainly work in Huawei’s favor as the company looks to alternatives to U.S. and U.S.-tied component and software providers.

Phones / IOS Developers Sue Apple Over App Store Fee (monopoly) by nigeriapenmedia: 4:59pm On Jun 05, 2019
TechNews By Topmag.Pw

About Two iOS developers have sued Apple and are seeking class-action status for their case, Apple has for years maintained a monopoly over the sale and distribution of iOS apps, and they’re sueing the tech giant in a US federal court in an attempt to break its “improper monopolization of this market.”

The lawsuit seeks class action status, so it could potentially represent anyone who’s ever sold an iOS app in the US.

Apple of course only allows iOS apps to be installed on iPhones and iPads from the Apple App Store and charges developers a commission for any sales.

The suit claims that Apple’s 30 percent cut is “overly expensive” and that its $99 annual developer fee has “cut unlawfully into” developers’ potential earnings.

The developers also complain that because the App Store is the only distribution point for iOS apps, apps get “buried” among the two million other apps, stifling competition and innovation.

“If Apple did not shut out all competition from access to iOS device owners, there would be more stores that could feature more apps, as well as stores that would specialize in certain kinds of apps,” the suit contends.
Law firm Hagens Berman filed the lawsuit on Tuesday at the US District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose.

The two plaintiffs are the developer of a basketball workout app and a baby-naming app.

Computers / World Most Dangerous Laptop With Six Unpredictable Viruses Is Now On Sale-beware by nigeriapenmedia: 7:06pm On May 27, 2019
News By Topmag.pw

The Virus Laptop was Created by internet artist Guo O Dong, this latest art piece being offered and called ‘The Persistence of Chaos’ is definitely a dangerous yet odd one that’s actually being sold for more than US$1 Million all over the world.

What the internet artist, Guo O Dong created was just an ordinary 10.2-inch Samsung NC10-14GB laptop that’s filled with six of the world’s most dangerous malware. Yes. Six. The artist told The Verge that the goal with the laptop was to make what’s considered abstract threats posed by the digital world become physical manifestations for all.

Although,“We have this vision that things that happen in computers can’t actually affect us, but this is Unreasonable,” says Guo. “Weaponised viruses that affect power grids or public infrastructure can cause direct harm.”

The six viruses in the laptop were chosen for the magnitude of economic damage they’ve caused.

This Virus includes;

The ILOVEYOU virus, a computer bug from 2000 that often appeared as a “love letter” attached to emails; and WannaCry, a ransomware attack that shut down computers in hospitals and factories around the world in 2017, and which intelligence agencies blamed on North Korea.

According to Guo, WannaCry is the perfect example of how digital attacks can have physical consequences. “WannaCry … caused the [UK’s National Health Service] the equivalent of US$100 million in damages and led to the cancellation of tens of thousands of doctors’ appointments,” he says. “It is not a leap to say this caused significant human harm, though it might be hard to pinpoint the effects exactly down to the patient.”
