Veteran Nigerian musician, Friday Igwe, otherwise known has Baba Fryo has shared photos of his battered face saying he was assaulted by unknown soldiers in Lagos.

Baby Fryo who is known for his for releasing street songs like Dem go dey pose in the late 90s didn't share details of the alleged assault, he simply said;

I was humiliated by unknown soldiers I tried forced them to the barrack but a female soldier interfered and allowed them to escape. The case is under investigation. Thanks to Ojo Army barrack who took the case on their shoulder I pray they will surely be caught and brought to book.

We bring to you few things in life more certain than Android users getting excited about an app adding a dark mode. Personally, white text on black/dark backgrounds tires my eyes, especially during daytime, but I’m not here to argue with you about personal preferences. If you like dark modes in apps, you’ll be happy to know that WhatsApp is working on its own.

Topmag knew this was a possibility, but WAbetainfo just did its magic with WhatsApp’s latest beta APK and triggered the new dark mode. By “magic,” we mean this isn’t available in the app, it’s not a setting you or I can toggle. It’s probably a flag or preference that needs to be tweaked in the APK and you will have to be patient and wait until it’s properly implemented for end-users.

Right now, only the app’s settings can give you the dark mode treatment. Those same settings were recently revamped, most likely in preparation for them to be compatible with both a lighter and darker color scheme.

Speaking of colors, the dark mode doesn’t use an absolute black but a very, very dark grey. This makes it OLED-friendly while also not tiring the eyes with high contrast between black and white.

We’re not sure when this new dark mode will show up in the WhatsApp app, but given that it’s still limited to settings only, I’d say we’re in for a wait before it’s implemented. WhatsApp needs to hurry though: Android Messages, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Telegram, and plenty of other competitor messaging apps have already added a dark theme, and with Samsung’s One UI rolling out widely, I’m sure many users are wondering why WhatsApp stays blindingly bright even when they switch to night mode.

Topmag is back with a few more screenshots depicting a behind-the-scenes Night Mode in WhatsApp. It’s not clear from their findings if this is Night Mode is the evolution of the dark one they discovered earlier, or if it’s a separate theme that will be available alongside it but only trigger at night.

The Progressive Governors Forum has honoured President Muhammadu Buhari for his steadfastness to All Progressives Congress (APC) and gestures to states to pay salaries.

Eight APC state governors were also honoured for their faithfulness to the party since the merger in 2014.

President Buhari was particularly singled out for the award for the bailout to states to clear backlog of salaries.At the event which held at the Villa on Friday, the President called for the need for true federalism in Nigeria.

President Buhari who described the award as a surprise, said it’s an encouragement to continue to do more in moving Nigeria’s democracy to the next level.

The award, according to President Buhari is “a reflection of the collective commitment of the states and federal government to work harmoniously to find solutions to the developmental challenges facing the country’’.

He insisted on the need to build bridges across the divide for the sake of a united, indivisible country and promised to continue to implement policies that would improve the welfare of the Nigerians.

“We remain committed to improving the welfare of the Nigerian people. Your Excellencies, it will be belabouring the point to say that true federalism is necessary at this juncture of our political and democratic evolution.

Some morgue attendants were shocked beyond word after 4 women stormed the premises to fight over a corpse they all claim is their husband.

Reports have it that the women whose names were simply given as Janet Wambui, Lydia Wanjiru, Susan Wakuthii with the fourth yet to be identified, stormed the Kirinyaga County Funeral Parlour in Kenya to claim the body of a man whose name is given as Peter Mwangi Gichobi. Until his death, he was a boda boda rider.

The late 32-year-old taxi driver died in a road accident on Nyangati-Embu road about a month ago.

The ladies fought themselves while trying to convince everyone that they were his wife until police officers came over to the morgue to separate them.

The deceased had a son with each of the women. The mortuary has however stated that the deceased’s death certificate would be given to his next of kin who was his uncle.

Some 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) candidates have appealed to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to release their results.

The candidates spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Bwari.

The 2019 UTME commenced on April 11 to April 18 with 1.8 million registered candidates.

The board has repeatedly said that it would take its time to screen the results because of the several infractions discovered during the exercise.

Madueke John, a candidate, said that the long wait for the results has held some of the candidates back, while also causing a lot of tension.

The Cross River State Police Command has launched Operation Puff Adder in Calabar, the State capital.


Launching the operation, the State Commissioner of Police, Austin Agbonlahor said that the launch was in line with the Inspector General of Police’s directives that the operation be launch in the state.

“You may recalled that on April 5, 2019, the inspector General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar had launched a special operation code name ” Operation Puff Adder” to tackle emerging insecurity challenges especially kidnapping, armed robbery banditry among others crimes along Abuja-Kaduna express way and other parts of the country.


“The IGP equally directed the Commissioner of police in charge of state police commands to replicate same in their respective state commands. In compliance with IGP’s directive, the Cross River State police command is inaugurating a special squad, code name operation Puff Adder,” he said.

The operation, according to him, will be under the direct supervision of the commissioner of police, adding that personnel of the squad are drawn from the conventional Police, Mobile Police Force, Special Protection Unit, Rapid Response Squad, Special Anti-Robbery Squad and Anti-Cultism and kidnapping squad as well as others.

Bayern Munich player David Alaba has revealed how his refusal to pay a bribe to the coaches of the Golden Eaglets cost him a spot on the team.
According to Alaba, he was denied the opportunity to join the team at the 2007 FIFA World Cup in South Korea due to his refusal to pay bribe.

During this period, the late Yemi Tella was in charge of the team.

Speaking in an interview, Alaba bashed the Nigeria U-17 coaches, tagging them “jokers” and vowed never to have anything to do with them ever again.

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has released the statement below, detailing modalities for the sighting of the new moon to signal the commencement of this year’s Ramadan fast.

The statement also detailed the contact telephone and email addresses of 30 personalities across the country that should be contacted by anyone who sights the new crescent.

“Consequent upon the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), the President-General (Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad) enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1440 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, May 5, 2019 equivalent to 29th Sha’aban 1440 AH.

“If the crescent is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character on the said evening, His Eminence would declare Monday, May 6, 2019, as the first day of Ramadan. If, however, the crescent is not sighted that day, then, Tuesday, May 7, 2019, automatically becomes the first of Ramadan, 1440 AH.

“The Council hereby enjoins the Muslims all over the Country to be on the lookout for the announcement of His Eminence, the President-General of NSCIA, on the commencement of the 1440 AH Ramadan fast.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that his government would not intimidate voters and foreign observers participating in the February 16 and March 2 elections across the country. The President stated this in a nationwide broadcast ahead of tomorrow’s presidential election.

Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration has no regard for the Judiciary including the electoral body- the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Moghalu, the presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), said that the present government has attacked the judiciary in a constitutional coup d’etat and does not respect the independence of any institution, including INEC. The YPP presidential candidate made this statement during the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Tribune titled: “Unveiling of the New Look Tribune” held at Sheraton Hotels, Lagos.
