Even in detention, representative of Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, was recognised yesterday in Lokoja at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally for the forthcoming election.

Melaye had turned himself in to the police after eight days of laying siege to his Abuja residence.

However, Melaye, who is Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign spokesman, stole the show as speaker after speaker called for his immediate release.

As it happened during his recall saga, while also in detention, Melaye, who has been very outspoken at the zonal rallies, could not be part of rally to flag-off the electioneering campaigns in his home state.

Speaking, Atiku, Senate President Bukola Saraki and other leaders of the party renewed their call for Melaye’s immediate release to enable him campaign for the election.

Former Governor of Akwa Ibom and ex-Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio has said that victory for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the general elections was assured and a “done deal”. Also, former governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, enthused that considering the achievements of President Buhari in the Niger Delta and Delta State in particular, it would make his re-election in the February 16 presidential election very easy.

The two governors from the oil-rich Niger Delta spoke to reporters during the inauguration of the APC presidential campaign council by President Buhari at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Akpabio said that apart from the massive infrastructure going on in Akwa Ibom State, the APC campaign would be based on the integrity of the President. “I thank the APC family (Akwa Ibom APC) for giving us the opportunity to kick-start presidential campaigns in 2019 like what you saw, that shows indeed the future is very bright for the party, the prospects are very strong.

“We have a lot to campaign with, the social infrastructure, the SEED programme, a lot have been achieved by this President as never done before. In the past, we had so much of recurrent expenses. But today, we are now seeing infrastructure on ground like the railways, the roads and other infrastructural programmes of this administration.

As 2019 general elections approach, taking Effect from February and the pressure is beginning to mount highest among contestants.

Last week, it was like war in Calabar, the state capital, the area with the largest population in Cross River State (in fact, statistics has it that when you win the entire Calabar metropolis as a Guber candidate, then you’ve won the general election).

The campaign billboards and posters of the All Progressives Congress, APC Governorship candidate, Sen. John Owan-Enoh were destroyed in Calabar and other urban areas, courtesy of CRISSAA who have come out openly to testify to that…you can read that HERE.

In a similar vein, the campaign billboards of the incumbent governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governorship candidate in the state, Sen. Ben Ayade were destroyed.

Rumours has it that it was the APC (Owan-Enoh’s supporters) that destroyed the billboards to avenge their master’s plight.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appealed to various labour unions in the country to reduce their agitations to enable his administration to concentrate on repairing damaged infrastructure.

He spoke during a meeting with the executive committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students at the State House in Abuja.

Buhari specifically mentioned the Academic Staff Union of Universities and urged the striking teachers to appreciate the efforts of his administration at fixing collapsed infrastructure.

“In three-and-a-half years, we have improved tremendously on what we met. We are trying to do infrastructure.

“No matter which part of the country you come from, you will see the efforts we are making in terms of roads; we are trying to fix rails, we are trying to do power, through the use of gas and solar. If you note what we have done in these three-and-a-half years, you will not regret voting this administration into power”, a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, quoted Buhari as saying.

Buhari added he would speak to ASUU to call off the current industrial action “so that they don’t encroach on your efforts to qualify (graduate) in time.”

In a veiled reference to the call by ASUU that the government should meet its financial demands, Buhari told the students that he had laid bare the income and expenditure of the government in the 2019 budget for all to see.

“There is a tendency for you to think that you can do better than anybody, but it is very good for you to know the facts that leadership entails”, he added.

Governor Rochas Okorocha,The governor of Imo State, and his compatriot from Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade were spotted together at the Carnival Calabar 2018.

Okorocha who was invited by Ayade attended the International Carnival that held on Saturday night at the UJ Esuene Stadium and left in awe as Countries displayed their cultures.

The Imo State Governor was captured through the camera lens with his mouth wide open in shock as he watched, Swaziland, South African young ladies and other country women dance topless shaking their b**bs across their stand.

The video which was aired Live by DSTV and GoTv got people talking with the kind of faces both Okorocha and Ayade put out when these fresh ladies were dancing.

Both Governors melted at that point with Rochas stocking out his mouth as he watched deeply without blinking.

If the Governors rewatch the video, they may likely stay at home until the 2019 general election is over for the scene they created will leave a lasting memory in the minds of the people.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday swore in Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola as the 21st Head of Service (HoS) of the State with a charge that he must inject fresh ideas, vibrancy and new energy that would take public service to new heights and make Lagos a globally recognized City- State with a commitment to efficiency, effectiveness, innovation and creativity in service delivery. Also, the governor swore in six new Permanent Secretaries who had since been deployed to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

They are Dr. Titilayo Goncalves (Ministry of Health); Mr Adeyemi Kosoko (Education District IV); Dr Sherifat Balogun (Ministry of Youth and Social Development); Mr Segun Adeniji (Health Service Commission); Mrs Abosede Adelaja (Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture); and Dr Lateef Lawal (Primary Healthcare Board). Describing the appointments as thoroughly deserving, Ambode said a new chapter had just been opened in the state public service, urging the appointees to justify the elevation by working harder to satisfy the expectations of the people.

Ambode said: “Following the swearing in of the new Head of Service, a new chapter has just been opened in the history of the Lagos State Public Service. It is a new chapter with high expectations for the injection of new energy and vibrancy that will move our Public Service to new heights.”

At least four persons died on Sunday night after sustaining gunshot wounds in an attack by gunmen at Kutura village in Kajuru Local Government Area in the southern part of Kaduna State.
Several others, who sustained injuries, were recuperating in various hospitals in the area.

The gunmen were said to have stormed the village about 8p.m. The gunmen opened fire on youths, who were celebrating and dancing in anticipation of the New Year.

Efforts to get further information about the attack from the Kaduna State Police Command were futile as the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yakubu Sabo, did not pick his calls.
However, President of the Adara Development Association (ADA), Mr. Awema Dio Maisamari, confirmed the attack in a telephone interview with journalists in Kaduna.
He described the attack as unfortunate, adding that their communities no longer feel save despite government’s promise to protect them.
