@chxta, To delete the Recycle Bin icon from the Windows XP/2003 desktop follow these steps: 1.Open Registry Editor. 2.In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/Desktop/NameSpace 3.Find the following key: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} 4.Delete the above key. 5.There is no need to reboot. Just wait a few seconds or refresh by pressing F5 key and see how the icon disappears from the desktop. 6. In order to restore the Recycle Bin icon to the desktop just re-create the missing key (or import it back to the registry in case you've exported it earlier). In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/Desktop/NameSpace Create the following key: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} Done! what player is dat? i make use of amarok and helix. bt dat doesn't look like either. yeah jogego, fedora core 4 is kde 3.4.0 n each time i shut down(not logout) the screen goes blank until i press the keyboard b4 it display the shutdown processes. is this normal?(don't think so) ii'm plannig of doing a yum update to kde 3.4.1 bt my connection at home is 115kbps. an upgrade is around 260Mb. anyway i'm doin a google search to see related issues. but fedora core 4 is really nice i must say. |
it was the default fedora core 4 setting. bt i think .jpg files are smaller than .png to make sure it's in .jpg format, okay. my fedora core 4 multimedia support is now enhanced after my YUM UPDATE. this are the packages i now installed: mplayer xine xmms kaffeine gaim grip and others by default these packages does not come with fedora by default cheers guys! |
with a well configured yum repository u don't have to worry about dependency problem of fedora core/redhat . it automatically search the internet for all the depencencies + includin the software itself eg [root@localhost niggy]# yum install totem Setting up Install Process Setting up repositories core 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 dries 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 dag 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00 newrpms.sunsite.dk 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 updates 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 freshrpms 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00 Reading repository metadata in from local files Parsing package install arguments Resolving Dependencies --> Populating transaction set with selected packages. this is just a tip of my fantastic plain FEDORA CORE 4 desktop. i really like my destop to be plan n not crowded.
|
jogego, dt wz nice. bt wait to see my fedora core 4.it's fantastic! especially the yum update! To have a good installation of fedora core 4 visit this link http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html |
jogedo, fedora core 4 is kde 3.4.0. when i installed it i noticed the crashes at logout n some other ones. guess u are lucky running ur kanotix without the kde crash. i also confirmed this from a site. about the pclinux os i think it's hardware independent. it runs a slow on my p3 800mhz so for now i'm sticking to my mandrake 10.bt pclinuxos is pretty kool. |
i'm still using the 4051. i wz downloading the 5048 illegally from a site bt for now the site is temporarily out. my 4051 suffered another crash yesterday. i think window has alot of joy to do to stabilize the code. |
yeah man,dt's what i' m talkin about. u know most modern motherboard driver cd has auto setup which automatically installs all the device drivers. dat doesn't work for the longhorn i installed. u ve to do a device update from the control panel n specify the location of the driver folder. |
yeah my system board drivers still work for longhorn, only thru upgrading and not on clickin the .exe icon. when i click on the setup.exe icon i get an error of incompartibility. so i went to my device manager and did an upgrade. with dat my device driver was up and running cheers! |
@shockreaction, i never instend to sound like dat, but it worth a try. try longhorn if u want n let me know ur view. bt remember to backup ur data( u r WARNED!) |
Originally: The release of a new Windows "Longhorn" Hi guys, I'd like to thank the contributors to my previous post "Linux or Windows Operating System" especially jogego, lol. Yeah, Microsoft just been battling with beta releases of Windows Longhorn. I got the CD and installed it on my system. Hmm it's nice but for the moment slow with lots of bugs and crashes (mind you it's still a beta version). If you need more detail go to the Microsoft website (you won't get much anyway) or forums (here you get much + truth). Or try www.microsoft-watch.com. After installation, which took an hour one my p3 800mhz, I don't see much in the graphical interface but really there were lot of changes (I mean it). It's different from XP's GUI. I tripped for the bootscreen and logon, good work! Actually I just got some tweak guides which can correct the slowness (I'm yet to experiment). funny enough there is a software (longhorn tranformation pack 10.5) that upgrade your windows xp to longhorn. I tried it and it worked. Longhorn is still in beta release and not downloadable, but thanks to a foreign forum friend, I was given a link for the download www.dannybeckett.co.uk/downloads The site is passworded, so if interested contact me for the password (free). According to the news in www.msbetas.org, "Microsoft has brought back veteran product closer, Chris Jones to run the Longhorn beta. Chris Jones was one of the primary forces behind getting Whistler (Windows XP) out the door. He replaces Joe Peterson in managing Longhorn's day to day movement towards release. "Chris Jones…was brought back from COSD to save the (Longhorn) product," said one source. Longhorn has seen a number of features removed during its beta journey including WinFS, the Business Framework, the Side bar, the scripted shell, and other elements. Longhorn is currently scheduled for release in mid-2006. The first public beta is due out this Summer" My advice for Microsoft is to throw the Longhorn Project open like Linux and let the Linux gurus solve their problem. I love Linux! |
@jogego, not yet. i'm currently doin a review on windows new release" longhorn". i got the cd bt after installation, it was darmed slow n has bugs. i've been goin to site n forum to get the lastest news n peoples view. my man, linux is the best! longhorn is suffering from bugs n instability n even microsoft has to replace the team leader for the development, imagine! they hope to get a stable longhorn by 2006.(au many mths from now). i ll advice dm to throw it open as an open soucre as linux n let the gurus of linux solve their problem(laugh). |
@jogego,ve u heard dt fedora core 5 is coming out soon. i tried the pclinuxos on my via c3 800mhz board bt it freezes after loggin into the desktop. i tried it also on my friend's p4 2.6Ghz n it works perfectly fine. i'm still trying to figure out the cause of this. my ram is 256+128mb so it couldn't have been a ram problem. there is also Amarok live cd which is based on pclinuxos, yet to try dt one out bt ve finished the download. |
@jogego,thx man. i tried the editin bt couldn't get any thing out of it. hope u'll get a solution for me. actually i need a linux dt has the feel of redhat or mandrake, n i think i just got one which is pclinuxOS. i'm currenly downloadin dat. it has all the lastest stable update kde3.41( kde3.4.0 is not stable). |
@jogego like to ask this question" ve u tried tri-booting...windows, n other two linux OS?" i tried this with windows xp, mandrake n mepis linux bt only one linux n windows xp wz recorgnized by my boot loader dependin on which linux i install last. any help? |
@jogego, fedora has kde 3.4 too. i just finished downloadin mandriva 2005 limited editon(mandrake 10.2) 3cds. guess i'm still gonna stick to my mandrake products. |
i have a p900 and an accer advance 512MB mp3 player with voice recording, equalizer playlist, shuffle, repeat, continous playback with radio and can also function as a flash drive. for now i'm even not findin it easy carryin the two around so i only go out with my p900 which can perform both functions of a phone n mp3 player. Atimes i can't help goin with my flash cos i need to transfer data. i think the 40gb creative player is great, u don't have to carry it around all the time bt the need for it comes when u r goin for a picnic, travellin etc u know it's ur library of songs the way most people use their computer for song storage. think i'm gettin one soon too. |
@mamba, peew! u nearly flattered me. well guys, mamba is a phone genius if u don't know. i mean it! Any thing phone-wise, i respect...he is knowledgeable on all brands. He lectured me on the functionality of p900 n i couldn't help buying it. he even resurrected my p900 when i crashed it. up mamba! mamba, i'm waiting for the day u gonna have ur website n start writing reviews on all brands of phone. Like someone said, mamba's first child will be named NOKIA, second named SONYERICSSON , third named SIEMENS ........ caught ya later at the usual place pal. |
Dominobaby, Hi, don't get us wrong. Windows is not a bad OS, neither is Linux the best. But what we are concerned about is "what can this OS give back to you?" If you will agree with me, you can't use windows OS for 3 months without doing a reinstall, whereas Linux has been proven to run for more than a year without reboot or any degrade in performance. Again Linux doesn't make use of any antivirus, yet viruses can't attack it. Imagine! In windows any new release requires you to purchase new systems and new hardware. For example, for best performance of Windows XP: Pentium 4, 512mb RAM, etc. But new releases of Linux still allows you to mk use of your old box, I mean system without any hardware upgraded. Also Linux is free, though you can sell it but the source code must be with it. The source code is the program script used to write the program, so you can also design your own program. Isn't this great? Unlike Microsoft which has been monopolizing Windows. Mainly Linux is being developed by hackers, so imagine this kind of people who knows every detail abut a computer to write an operating system? It's goin to be a great one! That's what Linux is. Linux is not mainly command line as most people presume n ve gotten scared away by. Linux too has a beautiful graphical user interface, where you can play games like Doom and lots more, do your animation using Maya, word processing like Microsoft Office on XP, open PDF, desigh webpages, run Java, C++, FORTRAN, play your DVD, VCD, movies and MP3, burn your CD using k3b which is like nero, and lots more. Since I've sticked to linux I've never experience any problem with my system unlke before. Though I still have Windows XP because of my Sony Ericsson p900 which I use to load songs and videos to my phone, but any other things my Mandrake Linux 10 handles it. This means you can have windows and Linux on the same hard disk and dual boot. Coming down to the issue of servers, most server apps on windows are linux origin. mysql, apache, firewall all started from linux, windows just copied this, imagine! One great thing I love about Linux is that it makes me learn. So I use the command line mainly which is faster and straigh forward. If you need any documentation, tutorial and installation CD on any distro of Linux (Fedora Core 4, Mandrake, Slax, Knoppix, Slynux), let me know, okay? I will love to see you use Linux. Bye. |
@jogego, i chk out the kanotix , hmmmm not much with the interface, just like knoppix. don't think i like the fish logo too. |
finally, i installed the fedoracore4 . it's kool guys! bt one thing is it depends on which linux distro u are migrate from. being a current mandrake user, i still don't appreciate the desktop interface.(don't get me wrong, it's niceit's kde3.4 imagine!) . bt i still prefer my mandrake 10 plastic desktop theme n font display. n again, i still doesn't ve the support for my via graphic card yet. n the package is not yet out from via arena. so for now i 'd stick to my mandrake. i'm currently downloading Beatrix linux, just 182.4mb. |
good news guys! i did an update for my download accelerator plus 7.4 and now i can download at a rate of 150Mbps!!!!! |
well i'd like to say at my office we mk use of DSL modem not a VSAT n i could download at an average of 60kbps n 100kps peak rate. just finished downloading 4cds of fedora core4 635Mb each=2.5Gb.(took a whole working day hour)( mandriva, berrylinux, slax, knoppix, have been my previous downloads thru same link) lucky, huh? ![]() What most people don't know is dat most cybercafes dat utilize VSAts have bandwidth manager. eg linux has a programe called squid dt manages bandwidth, hence u end up gettin a limited download speed.(not their fault i think, just want to prevent people like me dat loves downloadin huge files like 2Gb from slowin down their link).pretty wise. To configure squid for bandwidth managing, contact me.FREE! |
@shockreaction.thx man. goin to the link rightaway. just got a new feel from some linux distros myself ...slax and berrylinux. fedora core 4. the slax is just 160mb n fantastic! it's based on slackware.(2.6 kernel, kde 3.4 , mplayer, xmms, openoffice)n installs on hdisk before u pronounce shockreaction. the berrylinux is based on fedoracore 3. just finished downloading mandriva mini live cd 2005 412mb, yet to try it. my first download of fedora core 4(4cds) was corrupt so i just initiated another download from a different mirror, ll be done by tomorrow. |
@IAH, so what about purchasing the cds. i'm a linux user bt i love exploring other OSes |
if the problem is from ur hard disk as seun had guessed. i 'll suggest a repair on the hd b/4 replacement. there r some codes for return ur hard disk to a virgin state( as brought from the manufacturer) this is better than formatting. if needed let me know. |
@IAH, like to ask u where i can get mac os? can it be downloaded, n the link pls? |
@jogego, i guess u said u 've tried out suse linux? how is it, is it debian base too. would like to know n try it out. i when to their site n i think their product dats free is the eval version. |
@jogego, the fedora core I just downloaded is still at test. I did a test(before installation) on the CD n it told me failed. I ven't really installed it. bt I ve a strong conviction that it would work. since it wz through the internet(ftp using reget) the error is likely. did you get your distros too by internet n if yes when you tested the CD at boot wz it successful? |
...anyone interested in mandrake 10 can contact me. it's for free guys just 3cds. i m currently downloading fedora core4 so when it's done i'll be willing to give it out too. |
