afrodoc2:The Inter Game was a 'must win' group match if Arsenal were to proceed to the knockout stages. That's a high profile big game against the 2nd best team in Italy at the time. Finishing 2nd, 12 points behind the Barca team that would win a double+ super cup that year does not make Madrid 'poor'. As we know Barcelona would do that to any other team in the world. Listing Arsenal's biggest rivals during his era,one would argue that games against these opponents can be justifiably classed as 'Big Games' Overall Arsenal record: 316 starts, 215 goals. vs Manchester United: Games 13, Goals 8 vs Tottenham Hotspur: Games 12, Goals 5 vs Chelsea: Games 17, Goals 8. vs Liverpool: Games 15, Goals 8. Big Game totals: Games 57, Goals 29. Infact one would argue that due to the nature of the quality of teams he faced in some of his finals (Brazil,Italy,Barca), he was facing the only teams in the world with quality to nullify Henry's goal threat So I'm not sure how Drogba is that much better than Henry in these 'Big Games' He got the red card against you guys in the UCL final in Moscow. In the UCL final against Bayern he gave away a penalty, which if Robben had converted, we would probably not have won. He missed a penalty in the 2006 final shootout against Egypt. then failed from the spot during the 2012 final against Zambia. Is it scoring in a couple of FA Cup finals that makes the Drogba the better 'Big Game' Player? I don't like the idea of demystifying a Chelsea Legend, but Henry >> Drogba in every aspect . |
afrodoc2:What is this high profile 'No Show'? In 2003, Henry inspired Arsenal to a 5-1 Trashing of the Inter team that beat them 3-0 only a few weeks before to progress in the UCL In 2006, Henry went to shit on the Legacy of General Franco by scoring the goal that led Arsenal to become the 1st English team to ever win at the Bernabeu, Knocking Madrid out BTW Or is it the game against Liverpool that their unbeaten season when he rescued arsenal from a 2-1 deficit at halftime by scoring a Hattrick? How can Henry be labelled a High Profile no-show? Or a Flat Track Bully? Henry has scored against 34 of the 35 teams he has faced in the Barclays Premier League. The only team he faced and not scored against were Swansea City, against whom he played 24 minutes as a substitute during his brief comeback in the 2011/12 season. Messi hasn't scored in a World Cup or Copa America final. Would you even dare to compare Drogba to Messi on some frivolous 'Big Game Player' games. Doctor please...I'm a hard in the paint Chelsea fan...but comparing Drogba to Henry is an insult to va va voom. |
There's nothing subjective about it jor. Thiery Henry is the best striker to have played in the EPL era thus far. This is the guy many people felt was robbed of a Balon D'or at least twice. Drogba is a Legend, but Henry is already deified |
There was once a time when boys were claiming LVG was a breath of Fresh Air. Now he is called Plato. Starboard I'm looking right at you
|
leggo:Your paucity of thought has again been exposed. All you see is half the game on a weekend, yet you claim to know more than those who live and breathe the game the other days of the 48 weeks of a season? I gave you 2 examples of systems that are not immediately discernible to a football outsider, and you're talking about Fellaini spreading the ball. I don't know if you watch sky sports for footy, but sometimes during games, the pundits will highlight a player's working a defensive triangle as a system within a system. They actually have to draw lines to link the and follow the players to make it obvious to the non-initiated. Last season Chelsea were especially dangerous from set pieces. And Stoke/Pulid are historically dangerous from set pieces. Do you think they just send tall players up and "pull the ball down" as you say? Do you think Fellaini just stands around waiting for the ball? Or do you think it's coincindence when he runs either near post or far post? Football spectators have a reactive experience I.e we process what we see Football players on the other hand have a proactive experience in that they think at least 1-2 moves ahead. That is established in training from an early age. Thus they know who should be where. They can predict moves and systems for themselves and opponents. My friend, Mikel is a multiple EPL and European champion. You cannot even know up to half of what he knows about the game. There's a reason why broadcasters hire ex-professionals to analyse the games at half time, and not the Leggos of this world. |
leggo:Mikel definitely knows far more than you do. He's worked with different managers and played at the highest level. Have you seen the tactical notebooks that professional footballers have to study? Does your pause and rewind TV give you tactical information? Do you understand the concept of a trigger in football? Does your TV explain to you how and when the backline decides to step up and play the offside trap? Go and read Rafa Benitez's book 'Champions League Dreams'. The players spend up to a month studying deconstructed moves of their opponents. A substitute is going on the pitch and the assistant manager is showing him 10 pages of laminated diagrams so he knows what he's doing. If you dig about you will read about teams telling their centre backs to aim targeted long balls at opposing centrebacks and try to force an error, so their midfield can press high up and win the second ball. If you think you can see all of this on a TV, you must be deluded. And if you think your knowledge of the game is on par with Mikel, then your conceit has led to self-deceit. |
leggo:Unless you attend games regularly you can definitely not trust your eyes. The TV Camera only follows the ball, and you can very rarely see the full game develop using just TV footage alone. So to claim that you can make a better informed decision based on TV cameras, than trained professionals who can see the whole game unfold on the pitch is not just laughable...it's silly |
I hope he knows his father is one of the villains of lagoon city |
I haven't seen any talent from RLC. The few times he played last season, he looked lazy as fvck, and passed short, neat, e-no-spoil-for-my-hand passes. The way you lads hype some people on here sometimes, I have to question my own sanity. How can I log into page website where people are shouting for RLC, Colkett, Izzy Brown, and Solanke to be promoted to the first team, and not think "maybe there is something wrong with me?" We're hoping to compete with the likes of Barca, Madrid, City, Arsenal, United, PSG, Juve, Athleti etc...with these guys? Somebody has Ronaldo/Benzema/Bale. Another one has Messi/Neymar/Suarez. Up the M1 they packed Aguero Sterling Silva KDB(Bony on the Bench).....and then I should now bring Solanke/Izzy Brown and Boga to the same party? The KDB one is even quite interesting. He had to be sold to mature at a club with less pressure, before a club with Title Ambitions would want him. Why didn't they bid for him at Chelsea? Sterling was a highly rated youngster and has been an FM wonderkid since at least FM09/10 (Tval back me up on this). City only went for him after he had developed at a smaller club. I remember when Bimffo was shouting about Bamford everyday....The lad cant even start for Palace. It's one thing to be dribbling your mates at u-18 level. It's another thing to do it in the big time. Nobody cares if you do it at Vitesse. The Dutch league is a joke. If we decide to list all the bosses who left Holland to flop, we would still be here by morning. At this stage in the game, we can't even afford to grow players. We haven't achieved enough to be that arrogant. Only the most illustrious clubs in the world with a lot of history behind them can afford to bring through the homegrown talent and actually win with them. Let us win first. And then win again. And again and Again. Then we can now put our feet up and try something different. |
Went past the battersea power station and the've already cut down one of the chimney stacks. What was all the talk about ' it must look exactly as it was' for then? |
Martial rushed to hospital....Doctors say he's suffering from Hyperinflation. "Anthony told us that he’d just been going about his normal life as a promising but as yet unproven striker when he suddenly felt his value rising around a few days ago" “During the course of the medical we saw telltale signs. Anthony’s ego has swollen considerably just in the time that he has been with us, and we were unable to stop that... even though almost nobody here knew who he was. The problem escalated during observation. When he walked in here he was worth £15m at a push, but by the time he left it was closer to £25m . " -FourFourTwo Mag |

Keylor Navas has played only one full season of competitive football as a number 1 keeper in Europe's top leagues....and that was 2 years ago. Romero and now Navas....These are career Number 2s. LVG clearly has a preference. |
Tval:http://lmgtfy.com/ Somebody is asking where Oscar is...as if his own Data Subscription does not include Google. ![]() |
donjazet:Saw this earlier |
Chinom:It is ridiculous...the thing is Will Smith is not even a good actor anyway. Watch all his fils, he just pulls the same 'Pitbull in Distress' face whenever he needs to show 'emotion' That trailer was embarassing. They should have just let him keep his American accent and pretend his character is fully westernised. |
AncientJerk:Why would you say that? |
Terrible accent. Don Cheadle can do flawless Cockney but Will Smith cant even be bothered to learn the accent? Why didnt they just give it to Chiwetal who is BOTH A-List and Igbo? |
AncientJerk:Yes. Navas will be a good backup to Romero |
This DDG saga is finally coming to an end...and Romero can now take his place as the rightful Number 1 for United. Sergio is already one of the top 5 keepers in the league, and his confirmation as the main man between the sticks can only be good for his confidence. |
Who is this Papy Djolodjiji guy anyway? Has anyone really seen him play? |
Ibime: On that last one, all the best to Chalobah, for Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri was asked what qualities his new signing would bring to the team yesterday, and he said: “I couldn’t tell you, as I don’t know anything about the player.” [Guardian] |
