tbaba1234: I heard many people who tipped bosnia ahead of Nigeria.

Far more exposed but so are other teams. 1994 is not 2014.

Many of our players do not even regular places in their teams. We have no stars in the 2014 team. Finidi was the best right winger in the world.

The 1994 was higher on the FIFA rankings, beat a highly rated romanian team in the warm up games.

Expectations were much higher in 1994, because it was the first time.
This doesn't make any sense.

How can you more from the inexperienced 94 side than from the 2014 side that boasts of several players who ply their trade in Europe's top leagues?

And stop lying about Finidi. As at USA 94, he had just completed his 1st season in Europe, having just signed for Ajax from Sharks of Port-Harcourt. It was in the season immediately following the World Cup that he was to start gaining his reputation as the so called best winger in the world, when he won the 94/95 champions league with Ajax.

My brother I can tell from your submissions that football is not your forte. I think you should focus on your regular Islamic sermons.

tbaba1234: Untrue.

Most analysts did not even see us past the group stages in 2014. Not even Nigerians.
Stop Lying.

We had the 2nd best squad on paper in our group and are the reigning African Champions.

The general consensus was an Argie 1st, Naija 2nd finish.

And you cannot deny that the Nigeria Squad of 2014 is far more exposed than the team of 1994.

So why is it unreasonable to expect a better performance from the 2014 squad?

tbaba1234: The least you can do is give him the respect he deserves. Not senseless bashing.

4 years ago, we were not sure of the direction pf our football. We could not even qualify for AFCON.

Keshi has laid a great foundation from which others can build. We are at the top of the continent in just a few years.

We have the platform to hopefully move to the next level.

Yet, you forget so quickly where we are coming from. Even westerhof needed more time to achieve the same thing.
Respect and Criticism are not mutually exclusive.

We respect his efforts, but his tactical ineptitude can not be ignored.

Success is iterative....he has done his bit...but needs to hand over now.

django1: Funny enough, the ‘great' 94 squad didn't achieve beyond this and they are legends to many of these naysayers. Smh.
The highest profile player at the 94 squad was Finidi George of Ajax. The great Rashidi Yekini was playing for Vitoria of Portugal.Emenalo had no club sef.

Fast forward to 2014, and you had a EPL, FA Cup, Carling Cup, and Double European Cup winner in the Squad(Mikel), Osaze/Moses/Yobo play in the EPL, Ambrose plays for the Scottish Champions, and Enyeama was arguably the best keeper in France last season.

Surely you can understand why Nigerians expected far more from this current squad than the boys in 94 making their 1st ever appearance in a World Cup.

Quite simply, the 94 squad over-achieved... 2014 squad severely under-achieved!

cocoduck: Please STFU if you don't know what to say. you think that world cup is for kids. fyi Nigeria has not won any match in the world cup for 16 solid years.
Could you please point out what part of my statement you disagree with?

tbaba1234: Yet, is one of the most successful African coaches in history
Being a successful African coach means absolutely nothing. African football is not highly regarded outside the continent.

It's like an Asian boasting to you about being the most successful Asian Coach in history... grin
SportsRe: Super Eagles - The Way Forward by Nihilist: 10:37pm On Jul 02, 2014
Nigeria's ineptitude at set pieces this World Cup epitomises just how useless Keshi is.

No dedicated corner taker, Musa couldn't beat the 1st man, Mikel just punted it to the back post...

4 of the 5 goals we conceded in total were directly from set pieces, and any half decent tactician would have noticed this deficiency and moved to correct it.
SportsRe: Super Eagles - The Way Forward by Nihilist: 10:28pm On Jul 02, 2014
Keshi for me is too tactically naive, and his naïveté was woefully exposed at the WC this summer.

All the talk of being African champions amounts to nothing, as the tactical intelligence across the continent is shockingly bad, hence the African Champions were undressed by Spain with alacrity at the confederations cup, and stumbled into the round of 16 this World Cup, winning only 1 of the 4 games we played.

I slightly disagree with the idea that a lack of playing personnel might have been partially to blame for this mess...man to man, Nigeria had a better squad than Costa Rica for example, but the difference tactical approach is as clear as daylight.

Emenike's reluctance to hold up the play and limited aerial ability made him a liability up front, while his pace, power and penchant to run with the ball are attributes better suited to a winger, and it's pretty obvious that Emenike was at his most effective when he drifted to the right wing. Yet Keshi continued to field him as the No 9 and Osaze on the Flank

Similarly, against France Keshi effectively fielded a 442 with Moses occasionally dropping back to help his midfield. As soon as Onazi got taken out, the utter stewpidity of that approach was exposed when Keshi failed to stabilise the midfield with an extra midfielder.

These little things show that Keshi doesn't have what it takes to compete at global level.

Winning CAN is nothing to boast about really - only 2 African teams made it to the round of 16 and none to the quarters, and the lack of tactical intelligence across Africa makes the task relatively easy with half decent players.

Everything else OP said is spot on.

Keshi is very very very very useless though.

Luddosky: Sir, I have seen that word used many times. And according to the urban dictionary, comparism is an examination of two or more items to establish similarities and dissimilarities. Similar in meaning to comparison yet identified by the distinct Sahrism dialect.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=comparism
1.) This is the only definition for the word 'comparism' available on the Internet

2.) This definition does not appear in any academically renowned dictionary. Urban dictionary is not an acknowledged reference for definitions

3.) The definition makes reference to a sahrism dialect....there is no language called sahrism..and the actual definition is an entry by a user called SAHRA. This shows that this entry is a tongue in cheek entry by some random person somewhere...

4.) The points above, point 3 in particular, should have alerted your spider sense into realising that the word comparism does not exist...which leads me to point no 5.

5.) your fake politeness in an attempt to set a trap has backfired...I know for a fact that you are spoiling for a fight. Only 7 posts in your history and 3 of them on this thread.

6.) the conclusion of all is that you are an ode and a fool, a mumu, an Olodo, a fake, a pucci, a stan. On the off chance that you honestly didn't realise that "comparism" isn't a real word, it still makes you pretty stewpid...because even when you type 'comparism' into your search bar, Google asks you if you meant comparison!!

Mynd_44: Since when did "hug a transformer" mean go and die? Do you just want to create trouble or you are just trying to call a dog a bad name so you can hang it?

And does Christianity (except you are not a Christian) not say we should not give evil for evil? Are our lives not supposed to be according to the dictates of Jesus when he said we should turn the other cheek?

Where did we leave the saying about "iron sharpening iron"? Where did we lose the thoughts in "correcting with love"? Where are all the bible verses we are always quick to quote and use to defend ourselves?

And in case you are not Christian, tell me if "hugging a transformer" mean "I wish you would die"?
So what does Go and Hug a static electrical device that transfers energy by inductive coupling between its winding circuits mean?

Your statement only makes sense if you are quite literally able to hug the nearest one. undecided
