funlord: How many footballers have you guys actually met? Both naija stars and European etc?
Up close, took pictures with, gisted/hung out with or just been around? Na jand crew go plenty pass for sure as per unfair advantage through location....
I've met a few. Know one as a guy of a guy.
Waka pass a lot more. There was a time I saw Okocha thrice in one day - at the football field at Airforce base Ikeja, then at the Tennis court at Sheraton Ikeja, and then at MMA that night
Lana1: I know i watched some games in the 90s. But i only started following footie in 2003.
I still remember Nigeria 99. Liberty stadium for IB wasn't too far from our house. Went with popsy to go watch Mexico vs Argentina.
Welcome to Africa
Welcome to Nigeria 99
Welcome to the land where milk and honey grow... A ki yin kabo sori Olura
Ekuabo sori olora..
My enduring memories from that tournament were the theme song, nepa taking light at night at the stadium in one or two games, and aghahowa stopping a goal bound shot by sitting on the ball.
MoR2: , simple question i asked only 1 person answered (ajax 96),.
Una comments dey crack me up, some nostalgic references made is jus so amusing.
Did any of you watch FULL LEAGUE season before Y2K?
Probably not is the answer. The focus is overwhelmingly on international footy cos you could only really get weekly highlight shows in those days, with maybe one or two live league or UCL matches a week.
Then Larry Izamoje on Raypower 101.5fm will fill you in on Milo world of sports every morning about what was happening with Zamelek of Egypt or maybe FC Zuuuuuurick as he used to call it.
I think it was mostly Italian footy that people used to follow those days due the weekly italia show. My own brother whos in the same age group was first an A.C. Milan fan, then a Leicester fan, and finally Chelsea. The latter two only happened after travelling to UK.
They first came with Free to Air Cable around maybe 93/94. It was free for like a year, then they scrambled it so that you would see the number of their company to pay for subscription.
Then Mnet came in I think 95/96. That was when they had some funny channels like KTV, BOBTV, Mnet, Canal+ 1-6 or so. Mnet advert was on TV all the time. Before my dad bought it, I used to prank call their office everyday because though we had Nitel landline, but I had no one to call cos none of my friends had landline at home.
My dad would only pay Mnet subscription during holidays, so during school term it was dungeon master, then cadburys breakfast TV on a staurday, followed by frank spencer, and then Mitchell Obi's boring show till 2pm. Then I think NBA show all afternoon. I didn't even like sports those days, but my brothers were watching so I would just sit there and listen while playing gameboy
raumdeuter: Laws are now tweaked to favour attackers more. Most of these players and tackles wont survive todays laws. Montero wont play a complete 90mins for a season in todays football
From the clips I've watched and the info I read, that Montero dude was an outlaw in his own era too. The guy even set record for Serie A red cards...
airmark: That's why when some of us refuse to lower our expectations or accept stvpid views, they tag it, hating on players. If you want to be the best, you need to prepare to beat the best. No shortcut to greatness, only a miracle can turn water to wine.
I'm guessing you saw that excellent Hummels Tackle on Morata at Juve...
Ibime: I'm surprised no one mentioned the biggest agbero, Paolo Montero of Uruguay and Juventus. This guy was the enfant terrible of the 1990s and would make Pepe look like a kitten.
timbros: Why else will Aguero be listed 1st Morata 2nd and Lukaku 3rd?
Alphabetical order? Alvaro comes before Sergio, Lukaku comes before Morata.
Goals per minute? Morata is better than Aguero.
Shots on target? Lukaku is better.
Tell me why they are listed in that order if not that Aguero contributes to 9 goals, Morata 8 and Lukaku 7.
Christ stop being silly.
It's like you said, Lukaku has a better shots on target ratio and a higher number of shots.
BBC could have decided to sort their table based on shots on target - Would that suddenly mean that Lukaku is leading Aguero and Morata in on the scorers chart?
All the Beeb did was to list all goal scorers and provide extra info about them. They did not say that Aguero is leading.
I have attached the g oalscorers chart from several different websites now including the EPL, goal.com and ESPN and you will see that regardless of the order in Which those 3 strikers are listed...they are all jointly ranked number 1.
It shouldn't be rocket science. It really shouldn't.
timbros: I don't know where the aggression came from but live with it, Morata is ahead of Lukaku in the Premier League top scorers chart right now.
BBC is drunk too.
I'm not being aggressive in assuming you are drunk. Afterall, it is not a crime to drink, and it is not a crime to get drunk.
BBC posted the top goalscorers in the league and added some extra stats to further contextualize how each striker is doing overall... Timbros came and said Morata is leading goal scoring charts because of assists.
You might as well pull Whoscored ratings and use that to rank top goalscorers.
