Education / Re: Emphasis On Mathematics & English Causes Mass Failure - Educationist by nikinash(f): 3:12pm On May 18, 2012 |
Its too easy to always lay the blame on students. I lay the blame squarely on a governmnt that lacks the will to put a working system in place that will ensure that 1. Teachers are those who know what they are doing and why they are doing it. There are too many people in the teaching profession who have absolutely no business teaching, not only in public schools but increasingly in private schools. 2. We need a system that will appropriately evaluate the Nigerian educational need, why would someone going to study Yoruba ve required to have English and maths for example? We have to stop using a blanket approach to everything. I used to think only public schools had the problem of products that were not up to standards but very many private schools are awful now, probably because the teachers migrated from the public school system. 3. The solution has to be from the foundational level (nursery). Kids are force fed, not raised to think for themselves. If you start by telling a child 1 + 1 is 2, you will prevent the child from understanding the basic concepts. But if you allow the child to discover why 1+1 is 2, you lay the right foundations for life. Its time we wake up as a nation. |

Hi everyone. Been a while I posted here but I see many are doing well. for others I pray that God will turn your sorrows to rejoicing soon in Jesus' name. There will be pitter patter of little feet around you soon. I have a few copies of my book that I will like to give away to anyone interested. I wrote in while TTC, based on a few things I found out. I now have my own little ones and it might just help someone who is TTC. If you want pls send me a mail, you would have to organise the pick up though. 1 Like 1 Share |

Family / A Story To Live By by nikinash(f): 3:59pm On Aug 04, 2010 |
There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her, She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.' This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations. Life Is a Gift Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak. Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat. Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who died too early on this earth. Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires children but they're barren, Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets. Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another - Remember that not one of us is without sin. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around. |

Romance / Re: Birthday Gifts And Relationships by nikinash(f): 2:26pm On Jun 29, 2010 |
There's absolutely nothing wrong with telling your husband or wife what you would like as a gift, nothing at all. Since you are married to the individual, you already know what he or she can afford, so tolutara, i find nothing wrong in your request at all. Like someone said, some people's homes are cluttered with useless gifts that the receiver may never ever use, simply because the giver assumed he/she would like it. I know people who have been married for years and have gifts they received on their wedding day still locked up in a store somewhere simply because they have no use for them. Others simply give them away. I mean what do you do with cartons upon cartons of glass cups or plates or jugs or whatever. There's a reason why someone initiated the idea of gift registries. And for the person who decided that because his wife asked for a blackberry when he was going to build her a house, what would you have said if she had said, 'honey for my birthday i want you to put that house you are building in my name?' Wouldnt you have called her worse names? Finally, in answer to the real question the poster raised, I think your friend would be silly to give up a relationship ( I shudder to think it is a marriage), simply because the guy can't read her mind. And we all know most men are no mind readers! |

I stumbled on this thread recently and wished such a thread had existed while i was TTC, but thank God for Arlington for starting this thread. I would just like to share my experiences with you all whilst you wait, believing God for your bundles of joy. One thing I know is that a lot of men don't get the pain a woman goes through trying to conceive, they just don;t get it but I pray for you that God will make your husbands your true partners. I waited for almost 5 years before I had my first baby and and i just couldn't understand why I couldn't conceive. After the first year anniversary, which I considered long enough, I went to the doctor for explanations and tests and all that. The first doctor pissed me off and I left and got myself another one through a friend I knew who had experienced delays too. And I would like to say to you ladies that if you are with a doctor who treats you like rubbish, change hospital. I can't imagine the experience the poster shared where they were doing tests without even being told the results. I honestly think there is little worse experience a woman goes through than all the tests we have to endure in the name of looking for a baby. Some of those tests are so gross and uncomfortable especially when its a male doctor performing them, but what can we do? |

How can the penalty be N500,000? Someone who paid N15million abi how much for the little girl? It is sad that the ceremony could not hold in Egypt because their law forbids it yet in Nigeria where there's also a law`against it, they carried on as if nothing would happen. Truly sad for Nigeria. |

Family / Re: She Is Pregnant Again What Do I Do by nikinash(f): 12:25pm On Apr 26, 2010 |
There's something called family planning you know. So if you really didn't want your wife to be pregnant you should have discussed it with the doctor as soon as she had the first one. Anyway now that the deed is done, please get help for your wife if she so desires it, and after this baby is born (that's assuming she really is pregnant), please do family planning. |

Honestly its horrifying when you think of all the things that happen to the little ones. Is it a crime to be little? There will always be evil people no matter what. Thats why one needs to pray really well before engaging creches or helps to look after one's kids. |
