eleven:110% correct bros. I voted buhari in 2003, 2007 because in those years the man I believe genuinely meant to bring the Change being touted around now. The northern elite who are carrying him on their head today didn't want him at all back then but suddenly are crying blood if he doesn't win. Food for thought GEJ agreed with some northern politicians including Lamido that he would do one term and reneged on the agreement. That's where the anti-jonathan campaign stems from. Very sly of him to break a gentleman's agreement though. To the issue of hate by northerners, you are very right that isn't an organic hate but one that has been deliberately cultivated by El-Rufai and his footsoldiers both in the media and through direct manipulation by grassroot agents. We are witnessing a gang-up that has NOTHING to do with 'change". If change was the real issue, ppl like Pat Utomi would not be a spectator like he is today. |
Dorobucci No 1? You miss road OP. Alobam should have been No 1 followed by P Square - Taste the money |
superstar1:No dodge, tell him how igbos enjoyed the unitary system. Also tell me why the igbos would work to destroy a government that was favouring the eastern region? Revisionism should be made a criminal offence |
suwailad:Liar say wetin? I could easily claim to be the writer of this brilliant demolition job but I have not. Abeg give me your opinion on the 29 missiles and quit yapping |
benuejosh:Nothing concern rivers state governor with this one o. This one na FG own. The rivers state train project currently consists of a 1km line after much ado |
Some twitter warrior rips the western media's viewpoint on the Nigerian Government to pieces in 29 Bullet Points. 1. My next few tweets are directed at Western journalists/analysts & Westerners with interest in Nigeria. 2. There is a narrative that is gaining traction in the West, promoted by Western media outlets it is very divisive within Nigeria. 3. The narrative goes like this "Nigeria's South is impoverishing the North - especially under President Jonathan". This is not true. 4. I'm going to disprove this with facts, so that going forward, Europeans & North Americans have a more nuanced view of Nigeria. 5. With the exception of Lagos, all governments in Nigeria (federal, state & local) cannot run without crude oil revenues. 6. With the exception of oil producing states (that obtain 13% derivation from oil production), revenues are distributed based on a formula 7. Major components of that revenue allocation formula are 1. population and 2. land mass - both favour the North. 8. A combination of Kano & Jigawa - 2 out of the 7 states in Nigeria's NW have 67 LGAs, the entire SE has 95. 9. I need to attack a narrative promoted by foreign media - especially CNN & BBC, that "Abuja has neglected the North East". 10. My case study will be Borno State, the epicenter of Boko Haram - if any foreign journalist disagrees let him/her present facts. 11. According to Nigeria's finance minister FAAC allocation to Borno State was N94bn. 12. What this means is that Borno receives more from the federation account than oil producing states like Ondo, Imo & Abia. 13. Borno receives $587.5m from Abuja, this is more than Togo's budget - $551.5m. Togo has a higher literacy rate. 14. Borno has a relative low literacy rate - & contrary to the CNN narrative, Nigeria's history didn't start in 2011. 15. Borno has received/and continues to receive more from the federation account than Imo state - since 1970. 16. I don't want to do an analysis of human capital indices between Borno & say, Imo - the facts are out there for every one to see. 17. It is extremely important to distinguish what problems are caused by Abuja & what problems are legacies of bad governors. 18. In case BBC & CNN do not know, basic education & basic healthcare - are all state govt responsibilities. Nigeria is a federation. 19. If literacy rates in a state have been consistently low - Abuja has a responsibility, but primary responsibility lies with the state. 20. The state governor also has a responsibility to grow the economy of the state - few governors like Cross River, actually do this. 21. This is not to say that Abuja doesn't have any responsibility for the situation North East - but the picture is more nuanced. 22. Abuja has failed at guaranteeing security, but what factors led to a climate of religious extremism & insecurity? 23. The truth is that successive local administrators in Borno state failed to invest in human capital - over the past 53 years & before. 24. Are local administrators in other parts of Nigeria significantly better than in Borno - debatable, but culture also plays a role here. 25. Instead of a genuine debate on the problems in Nigeria - foreign news media is promoting a divisive narrative. 26. Gullible (or malevolent), foreign journalists are promoting an agenda that doesn't help Nigeria confront its real issues. 27. Nigeria has issues with governance - at all levels. And these issues will not simply be dealt with by merely throwing money at them. 28. Simply put, Nigeria's internal political architecture needs to be restructured, governors need to be more accountable. 29. Here endeth the lesson. |

What we are still doing in the same country with these ppl I can't understand. What I really can't fathom is why many still live in the north |
That is where GEJ really annoys me. So legislators in Abuja have been sending death threats to Governors in the north. Why haven't they been arrested and charged, I can only support a president so much abeg. He should stop giving ppl an excuse to call him a weak leader |
magicfingers009:By train took me about 5hrs + |
Crocz:The train isn't bad. I travelled on that line from Enugu to PH in 1999 when it was refurbished for the Junior World Cup. |
Before I go to bed. To the clueless clowns who are busy threatening ndi igbo with marginalisation if they support GEJ in 2015 elections and Buhari wins... Igbo man no dey fear marginalisation. We will always make a way like roses growing on concrete. When Nigeria was punishing itself in the name of suppressing igboland the people of Imo State built an airport from their small salaries. Ibeto, Coscharis etc no be FG babies like Otedola and Dangote. Mind your business let's mind ours. |
Yeske2:My point exactly. Innoson had been making cars for years and no one looked his way. Today FG agencies use his cars as official vehicles. Ezekiel Izuogu made his first car in the late 1980s was he not rubbished? As for the hate we receive from our fellow Nigerians you will be deceving yourself to say it has anything to do with our political choices. It is primordial bigotry and antagonism from before the days of the Sardauna of sokoto in the 1960s when our enemies got their excuse to strike. In 2011 on this site I remember clearly how the likes of dayokanu and some others cursed igbos endlessly because GEJ won the elections. GEJ appealled to the sensitivities of a marginalised and overlooked people in 2011 and they embraced him. How is that a bad thing Ndi igbo are not tribalistic and we are generally straightforward in politics. That is our ONLY "problem' in Nigeria. The only thing I have against our people is our neglect of APGA unlike our fellow Nigerians who have perfected the art of jingoism. |
Yeske2:No wahala nnam |
Normality:A guy I know from Awka-Etiti tried to push a proposal for highly affordable housing units in Anambra State in a PPP arrangement with the FG in 2002. He was told that OBJ asked him why he didn't plan to site it in Ogun state. The guy went back to america disappointed. |
Yeske2:I really an trying to grasp your point in relation to the OP's and my initial post. I have said over and over that the SE has received the least in terms of infrastructure but no be today and we will always move forward. My question to you is who do you think likes the SE? Is it Buhari and his party with animals like Amaechi with his "are we biafrans" statement or is it Nyako? Even lowly APC supporters (plus the fools we see on NL) pour tons of hate of ndi igbo. My guy what is your point? As we speak Innoson is producing cars in nnewi and the company is heavily aided by a policy of this administration. Other policies are opening up opportunities and our people will tap in without bare faced discrimination as e have seen in the past. |
Yeske2:We are saying the same thing. Its obvious he has done more for the north and the SW than the SE no argument for that one. But to allege that ppl in the SE don't like GEJ anymore is a major fallacy |
@Yeske2 - I see you amended your post after I replied you. Read am again I said clearly that not much has been done in the east. For you to use FG infrastructural projects or lack of as a gauge for SE feelings towards GEJ makes me wonder your knowledge of the SE. Since independence if you don't know (especially after the war) ndi igbo have not waited for or depended on FG feeding bottle. Did ndi Imo state not build an airport from their own private pockets?? |
Yeske2:Do you? What is their opinion then if you do? |
OP - You are an APC member. True or false. The article is aimed at one thing subtle central point which is that GEJ, an Ijaw man has done nothing for us while Buhari, a Fulani man can do more for us if we align with him and his ambition. First and foremost a major number of the APC's bigwigs like Amaechi and Nyako have expressed irritating anti-igbo sentiment that will be an issue for some time to come. Go to Upper Iweka and ask the average Joe what he thinks of Fashola ... The writer of that article is a clown for likening todays politics to 1966 and claiming that igbos are stuck in that year. OP what is your take on such silly analogies?? The fact is that GEJ hast really done much in the SE in terms of infrastructure compared to what he has done in the north and SW in order to win their votes but he has appealed to Igbo sensitivities like no other president has done and its working wonders for him. Call it wayo or whatever the man is creating an atmosphere of inclusion of igbos by putting them in few positions in his government and we have seen how our northern and SW brothers have castigated him for "igbonising" the place. Why won't he win igboi hearts? |
MudRaker:You are a very smart fellow. I thought I was the only one who noticed that many Yorubas (normally accomodating and friendly ppl) became very jingoistic and started having beef with their southern neighbours since he became governor in 1999? |
Thank God ooo! I can't believe this is happening in my lifetime In Landmark Ruling, Court Orders Uniform Cut-off Marks for Admission into Unity Schools By Davidson Iriekpen In a landmark ruling certain to challenge the viability of the decades-long the quota system in the country, a Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday declared as unconstitutional the state-based admission inequality into federal government colleges, also known as unity schools. The declaration was made in a ruling delivered by Justice John Tsoho in a suit FHC/L/CS/1358/2013 filed by a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) against the government and the Minister of Education. In the suit, which was meant to challenge the admission disparity into federal government colleges, the court declared that the application of different cut-off marks based on states of origin and gender violates the candidates’ fundamental rights to freedom from discrimination guaranteed by Section 42(1) of 1999 Constitution. It ordered that the federal government and Minister of Education who were the first and second respondents respectively in the suit to apply uniform cut-off marks to all candidates seeking admission into federal government colleges, irrespective of their states of origin. The case is based on Section 42 of the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits administrative or executive actions by government that discriminates between Nigerians on the grounds of ethnicity, gender, religion and place of origin. The originating application filed on September 30, 2013, prayed for the following orders: A declaration that the administrative acts of the respondents, particularly the second respondent which prescribes and applies different requirements including cut-off marks for candidates seeking admission into federal government colleges, based on gender, ethnicity, states of origin, etc, is discriminatory against applicant’s grandchildren and the group or class they represent, on the grounds of ethnicity, states of origin, gender, etc, and therefore violates Section 42(1) of 1999 Constitution. An order directing the respondents, particularly the second respondent, to apply uniform admission requirements, especially cut-off marks to all candidates seeking admission into federal government colleges, notwithstanding their gender, states of origin, ethnicity, etc. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents, particularly the second respondent, whether by itself, its agents, servants, privies or otherwise howsoever from further acts of discrimination in admission into federal government colleges. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/in-landmark-ruling-court-orders-uniform-cut-off-marks-for-admission-into-unity-schools/197040/ |
