Oh, because I omitted the word 'death' from the second comment, you are now jubilating? undecided Trust you, to seize on inconsequential omissions. Ok, where is the answer to my previous question: The Sardauna, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Festus Okotie-Eboh did not resist arrest, but were still shot by Igbo coup plotters. Why?? This is the 5th time this question has been thrown at you, and you have remained mute. When are you going to provide an answer? shocked
This gets more childish with each reply you type. Stop scurrying around and dribbling yourself, you are smarter than this! Let me spell your 50 kobo sense out for you -

You typed some unbelievable jagbajantis in your post -

1. That Fani-Kayode escaped while Nwobosi's men were trying to get Akintola in Ibadan

2. That the same Fani-Kayode who "escaped" in Ibadan was freed in Officer Mess, Ikoyi, Lagos

3. That Ironsi cannot be given credit for the release of Fani-Kayode by the troops that he (Ironsi) commanded because he didnt do it personally huh Chai!!

Its as if you are playing dumb to save face and it wont work. Stand by your words like a man and stop looking for silly, shallow holes to hide...

This is shameful. Jokes apart.

The accurate half of your confused post states that Fani Power was FREED AT THE MESS. Why are you still asking k-legged questions? Ironsi's troops were AT the mess when Nwobosi's group arrived. IRONSI'S men arrested them and freed Fani-Kayode

I said Fani-Kayode escaped death. sad And anyone reading through all the accounts connected with his escape, would realise that he escaped death through the hand of Providence, not because an onye Igbo rescued him. Was it Ironsi that personally took him out of the grip of his captors who abducted him, did Ironsi take him to the barracks? As for the other questions I asked, you have dodged it several times on this thread by latching on to irrelevant stories.
Watching you dribble yourself, split hairs and score own goals is sad to watch

It has been published that Fani-Kayode was abducted by Nwobosi's men, and driven to Akintola's house. He escaped death from there, while gun fire was being exchanged by both parties. So how was he rescued or recaptured? In what way did Ademoyega do justice to my questions, please?.

Oh, that is the new angle you want to start from? wink Murtala Mohammed came from....where? Dimka, Bisalla & co, who killed him hailed from ....where? huh A lot of Southerners saw it as a Northern coup, carried out by Northern minorities against core Northern chaps. Apart from that, the coup plotters and coup victims were all military men (i.e. military boys vs. military generals). And people tagged it as such, or how else would people have described it? It was quite different from the January 1966 coup, where military boys summarily executed elected civilian political leaders of other ethnic groups, who were unarmed except for one person. sad

Now, stop digressing. If the 1976 coup bothers you so much, start another thread for it, and we can open up discussions there. Do not derail this thread, biko.
All this twisting of grammar is pointless. Were the plotters of the 1976 coup mainly of Angas/Plateau stock? Simple yes or no. If yes why did you and yours not label it as "Plateau coup"?

After all despite concrete statements in Ademoyega's 35 year old, unchallenged, authoritative book to the contrary, you and people like you are still contorting yourselves into odd shapes to insist that the 1966 coup was an "Igbo coup".

The main plank of this thread is an article which alleges that Igbos as a group somehow deserve blame for Nzeogwu and co. So relax, we will examine every angle to this discussion.

Ngozi123:
Because it did not fit their agenda. It's not just that poster who's guilty of this; you rarely hear any Nigerians refer to that coup as the Plateau coup. They tried so hard to paint the first military coup as an Igbo coup because they needed an excuse to 'cut the Igbo to size'. Essentially, that coup and, by extension, the war, gave Nigerians a reason to 'blame' the Igbos for their misfortune as a nation. This enabled them to marginalise the Igbo with the support of the majority and if the Igbos complained, they would just claim that the "Igbos are trying to dominate again". It's a very worrying trend- the Nazis used the same tactics against the Jews.
Unfortunately for them we have decoded their tactics. The lies and half truths shall never go unchallenged again.

One fact that can never be rewritten, is that during that coup the only soldiers that fired the shots that killed political leaders from other ethnic groups, were Igbo. Fact!
In line with your logic, the officers that overthrew and shot Murtala and others in 1976 were predominantly from Plateau State so why was the 1976 coup not branded a Plateau/Angas Coup? You dont harbour hatred for them so automatically the ethnic angle should not stand abi? Abeg park well you cannot bring case and judge yourself winner in your own case Thats for kids...

Guy, is it that you did not understand my question, or you are deliberately playing the ostrich? huh That page from Ademoyega's book did not contain the actual blow-by-blow details of how Fani-Kayode escaped death, and your claim that 'he was rescued by soldiers controlled by an Igbo man?' So can you please provide the url link or source showing the exact details of how Fani-Kayode escaped death on the night of the coup, and the name of the Igbo man who rescued him with soldiers? Still waiting! undecided

Here is an excerpt from another article, on what eventually happened to the late Chief Fani-Kayode:

I do not even want to talk about Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh the late Finance Minister who did NOT resist arrest but was also killed by the coup plotters.
You just shot your argument in the foot.On one hand you say Fani-Kayode escaped from his captors while Akintola was being shot at, on the other hand you quote Akinjide's account which states that Fani-Kayode was taken from Ibadan to Federal Guards Mess, Ikoyi, Lagos! There he was released by "Loyal Troops". Who was in charge of the loyal troops in Lagos that morning?

Was it not General Ironsi, a confirmed Onye Igbo?
Stop weaving stories you cant defend

You have easily confirmed what Ademoyega said in his book and on the page I uploaded. Like I said you are welcome to your prejudice but your narratives are dropping dead faster than flies in a baygon factory. Just accept you are driven by hate not facts stop stressing yourself

That is why I said the final outcome or what happened in reality, was totally different from what Ademoyega spoke about in his book. What the coup plotters agreed upon, did not play out in real life. And we can only take stock of what transpired during the actual event. Not draw conclusions based on presumptions or assumptions.

I repeat Sardauna himself was NOT armed and did not resist arrest, so why did they still go ahead to kill him? They also not only shot the Sardauna, but also his wife (whose name was Habsetu) and his traditional bodyguard (whose name was Zarumi) and who had fought back with a sword. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was NOT armed, and did not resist arrest, yet they still abducted and shot him. shocked

Fani-Kayode's account of his escape, is quite different from what you have stated here. You claim 'he was rescued by soldiers controlled by an Igbo man?' huh Please provide the details along with the relevant url links or sources, so we can all read it and verify!
Na wa o. I uploaded page 115 of Ademoyega's book and instead of confirming you are asking for links?

Ademoyega totally does justice to your questions but you want links from NL and Gamji? Haba come up with a counter thats based on facts bro. Simply denying reality can't cut it in a discussion of this level.

Guy, Sardauna's security was only performing his job, and the coup plotters ended up killing him for that, so why did they still go ahead to kill Sardauna who was unarmed and with his wives? shocked SLA Akintola engaged the coup plotters in a gun duel, and so he lost his life. But Fani-Kayode was not released or spared by the coup plotters, he escaped from them while they were opening gun fire on Akintola, and no one was paying attention to him. Read his account, it is widely circulated on the internet.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa the late Prime Minister did not resist arrest, so why was he killed? huh
Oga. Your facts do not tally. Yes Sardauna's guards were doing their job but at least you can agree that the coup plotters agreed they would do it. It was NOT something few Igbo soldiers agreed to on their own.

Akintola opened fire and was killed by returned fire. Fani Power was abducted and largely unharmed because he did not resist and was eventually rescued by the soldiers controlled by an Igbo man!!

Ademoyega said that the Prime Minister and the Premiers from the 4 regions were to be arrested, but only killed if they resisted or used force. Did that happen? huh No! These men (with the exception of the Premier of the Eastern region who escaped,) were summarily executed! And this was done by the coup plotters of Igbo extraction. To deny this, is to attempt to rewrite history. undecided
Sardauna's security resisted and Aare Ona Kakanfo opened submachine gun fire on the plotters. Fani Kayode didnt resist and was spared. True or false?
