TravelAir Peace Flight Fuel Shortage On Air, Pilot Turns Back To Refuel - Dr. Udenwa by nlfpmod(mod): 6:41pm On Nov 08, 2024
Dr. Thompson Udenwa shared the story:

About two days ago, an Air Peace flight leaving Lagos to Abuja stopped halfway, with the pilot informing passengers that “unfortunately they do not have enough fuel to get to Abuja, so they must turn back to refuel.” How the hell did they allow them to take off in the first place.

.@fkeyamo please you need to put aside your friendship/relationship with Mazi Onyeama and wield the big stick by holding him accountable and responsible in this industry. Air Peace has become notorious and seemingly above reproach under your watch
https://x.com/TomUdenwa/status/1854847688266670468?t=E8zYR3LirWKF1N5-5rqa7g&s=08

Social media user, Odu Obodumu asked:

Did this really happen? Took off without enough fuel? I doubt. @fkeyamo
He replied:

As a matter of fact, my friend’s wife was on the flight. She won’t tell a tale if it caused her trauma. She also said that there were children coming from a school on that same flight

Car TalkInsufficient Filling Stations Slow CNG Project by nlfpmod(mod): 10:08am On Nov 08, 2024
The Nigerian government’s push for the utilisation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cheaper and cleaner alternative to fuel is being challenged by the lack of sufficient filling stations.

The CNG initiative has, in recent months, gained traction as many motorists continue to convert their cars in response to the high cost of petrol in the country. However, many Nigerians have described the difficulty in getting their cars refilled as ‘moving from pan to fire.’

You will not believe that I have been making efforts to refill my car for the past four days, but there is no gas in the station close to me at Durumi, Abuja, except I drive to Airport Road,,” Aisha Umar, an Abuja resident, said.

How can the government be pushing people to convert their cars without adequate preparation on how these cars will be refilled? We are having conversion centres everywhere but no refilling station.”

The federal government, in July 2024, commissioned six refuelling stations to serve residents of Abuja.

It also commissioned others in Lagos State.

However, these stations have become inadequate, as motorists drive long distances before getting to these stations. In some areas, CNG filling stations can’t be found.

Henry Orji, a businessman at the Gudu Market in Abuja, said he has returned to using petrol to power his car due to unavailability of CNG stations.

Refilling my car with CNG is really cheap compared to fuel and I can tell you that I have saved some amount since I started using it. But getting it to buy is not as convenient as fuel. We have just this station here serving the whole of these areas,” Orji said.

BusinessDay’s findings also revealed that the high cost of conversion is a disincentive to many Nigerians. Currently, conversion cost ranges from N600,000 to N1,200,000 depending on size of the vehicle.

But speaking to BusinessDay on the cost of conversion, Micheal Oluwagbemi, the programme coordinator, Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), assured that various products are now being provided by the private sector to make CNG conversion affordability, adding that the government was working on credit facilities that can reduce the cost of conversion.

Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) recently signed a partnership agreement to launch a N10 billion Credit Access for Light and Mobility (CALM) fund.

PoliticsNational Grid Collapse: Abuja Axis Restored, Recovery Still Ongoing by nlfpmod(mod): 8:17pm On Nov 07, 2024
@TCN_NIGERIA wishes to inform the public that the national grid experienced a disturbance at approximately 11:29am this morning, caused by a sudden rise in frequency from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz. Recovery efforts began immediately, and the Abuja Axis was restored within 28 minutes.

Recovery is still ongoing.

The frequency spike was caused by issues encountered at one of our substations, which had to be shut down to prevent further complications. In addition to this, we are actively engaged in significant repair work on several critical transmission lines and substations. This includes the 330kV transmission lines along the Shiroro–Mando axis, major upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation, and the restoration of the second Ugwuaji–Apir 330kV transmission line.

Furthermore, following the submission of the investigative report on the causes of previous grid collapses, we have begun addressing the identified weaknesses in the transmission system. Efforts are being made to close the gaps highlighted in the report and to enhance the overall stability and resilience of the grid. These efforts include both technical upgrades and strategic interventions based on the committee’s recommendations.

However, it is important to note that while these repairs and improvements are underway, some degree of instability in the system is likely to persist until all major works are completed.

We acknowledge the impact of these disruptions and ask for the understanding and patience of the public during this challenging period.
The company remains committed to improving the reliability of electricity supply, recognizing the vital role that stable power plays in Nigeria’s socio-economic development. We assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the grid's long-term stability, in line with the recommendations of the investigative committee, while also addressing infrastructure damage such as vandalized transmission lines.

Car TalkMalaysia To Phase Out CNG Vehicles By 2025 Over Safety Concerns by nlfpmod(mod): 11:10am On Nov 07, 2024
The Malaysian government has announced plans to phase out the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) for vehicles and end the sale of natural gas vehicles (NGV) in the country.

Loke Siew Fook, minister of transport, spoke at a press conference recently, according to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), a local media organisation.

In Malaysia, CNG is referred to as NGV.

Fook said CNG-powered vehicles can no longer be registered or be used in Malaysia from July 1, 2025.

He also said Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), a government-owned oil and gas company, will halt the sale of CNG at its stations in stages, starting on July 1, 2025.

The minister said with only about 44,383 NGVs currently in the country — accounting for 0.2 percent of vehicles in Malaysia, excluding motorcycles — the safety of road users and the public will be restored.

The NGV tanks of these vehicles are now reaching the end of their service life and need to be replaced and NGV tanks typically have a safe usage period of 15 years,” Fook said.

He further said there are also some car owners who have modified their vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, which are very dangerous.

The minister said the vehicles had caused explosions during accidents.

WE ARE PROVIDING SUPPORT PACKAGES FOR THE TRANSITION’

Fook said an assistance package aimed at helping owners of CNG-powered vehicles during the coming transition period has been put in place.

“Taxi drivers using NGV vehicles are eligible for a one-off RM3,000 e-voucher through Petronas’s Setel mobile app,” he said.

“They must have been registered with the Land Public Transport Agency before October 1.

“For dual-fuel vehicle owners, they can get their NGV kits removed for free at workshops selected by the transport ministry. Their vehicles must be registered with the road transport department (JPJ) before October 1.

“Lastly, for owners of purely NGV-powered vehicles, they are eligible for a one-off payment based on the current value of their vehicles, which will be determined by an independent appraiser.

“For this package, the vehicles must also have been registered with JPJ before October 1.

“Upon taking up the offer, the vehicles will be sent to an authorised automotive treatment facility to be disposed of and deregistered by JPJ.”

Fook said it is necessary to prevent the misuse of the vehicles or for any illegal modification to be carried out on them as it would endanger the public.

He said payments under the support package will be made within three to seven working days “of receiving a vehicle’s certificate of destruction and deregistration slip”.

Malaysia introduced the use of compressed natural gas in the late 1990s for taxicabs and airport limousines.

In Nigeria, the federal government is pushing for the adoption of CNG as an alternative fuel for transportation.

The initiative, introduced by President Bola Tinubu as a measure to curb the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy on individuals, “attracted over $200 million in investments so far as the government plans to build 1,000 conversion centres” across the country.

Abiodun Sanusi who is in court reports:

Abuja judge flee courtroom as malnourished minors detained for three months over #EndBadGovernance protests slump.

I am currently in court. Seeing how some of these young malnourished skeletal-looking children were rushed out of the court room as they were too weak to stand on their own.

One of the minors who have been detained by the police and Prisons Service for over three months was actually foaming in the mouth. It was pathetic to behold them rush over few biscuits and snacks that was given by some lawyers and other Nigerians in court.

The sight was quite emotional. I just wonder how insensitive, wicked and evil the government, police, the NSA, the prison service, and even the judge could be, to subject these children to this cruel treatment.

The police prosecutor is accusing the minors of public disturbance, attempt to destabilize President Tinubu’s government, and alleged destruction of public properties.
All the children have denied being guilty of the charges. This government is ridiculous.

Foreign AffairsArnold Schwarzenegger Is Voting For Kamala Harris by nlfpmod(mod): 5:24pm On Oct 30, 2024
I don’t really do endorsements. I’m not shy about sharing my views, but I hate politics and don’t trust most politicians.

I also understand that people want to hear from me because I am not just a celebrity, I am a former Republican Governor.

My time as Governor taught me to love policy and ignore politics. I’m proud of the work I did to help clean up our air, create jobs, balance the budget, make the biggest infrastructure investment in state history, and take power from the politicians and give it back to the people when it comes to our redistricting process and our primaries in California.

That’s policy. It requires working with the other side, not insulting them to win your next election, and I know it isn’t sexy to most people, but I love it when I can help make people’s lives better with policies, like I still do through my institute at USC, where we fight for clean air and stripping the power from the politicians who rig the system against the people.

Let me be honest with you: I don’t like either party right now. My Republicans have forgotten the beauty of the free market, driven up deficits, and rejected election results. Democrats aren’t any better at dealing with deficits, and I worry about their local policies hurting our cities with increased crime.

It is probably not a surprise that I hate politics more than ever, which, if you are a normal person who isn’t addicted to this crap, you probably understand.

I want to tune out.

But I can’t. Because rejecting the results of an election is as un-American as it gets. To someone like me who talks to people all over the world and still knows America is the shining city on a hill, calling America is a trash can for the world is so unpatriotic, it makes me furious.

And I will always be an American before I am a Republican.

That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

I’m sharing it with all of you because I think there are a lot of you who feel like I do. You don’t recognize our country. And you are right to be furious.

For decades, we’ve talked about the national debt. For decades, we’ve talked about comprehensive immigration reform that secures the border while fixing our broken immigration system. And Washington does nothing.

The problems just keep rolling, and we all keep getting angrier, because the only people that benefit from problems aren’t you, the people. The only people that benefit from this crap are the politicians who prefer having talking points to win elections to the public service that will make Americans’ lives better.

It is a just game to them. But it is life for my fellow Americans. We should be pissed!

But a candidate who won’t respect your vote unless it is for him, a candidate who will send his followers to storm the Capitol while he watches with a Diet Coke, a candidate who has shown no ability to work to pass any policy besides a tax cut that helped his donors and other rich people like me but helped no one else else, a candidate who thinks Americans who disagree with him are the bigger enemies than China, Russia, or North Korea - that won’t solve our problems.

It will just be four more years of bullshit with no results that makes us angrier and angrier, more divided, and more hateful.

We need to close the door on this chapter of American history, and I know that former President Trump won’t do that. He will divide, he will insult, he will find new ways to be more un-American than he already has been, and we, the people, will get nothing but more anger.

That’s enough reason for me to share my vote with all of you. I want to move forward as a country, and even though I have plenty of disagreements with their platform, I think the only way to do that is with Harris and Walz.

Vote this week. Turn the page and put this junk behind us.

And even if you disagree with me, vote, because that’s what we do as Americans.

How Nigerian Army Bought, Refurbished 60-Year-Old Fire-fighting Helicopters Abandoned In South Africa, Presented Aircraft As New

In June 2024, the Nigerian Army led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, received two Bell UH-1H 'Huey' helicopters at a ceremony held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement after the ceremony claimed the helicopters were bought new.

“The Nigerian Army (NA) has taken a significant step in enhancing its operational capabilities with the delivery of the first batch of new aircrafts (sic),” he had said.

“The berthing of the aircrafts (sic) marks a significant milestone in the development of the Nigerian Army Aviation’s capacity to provide air support for ground operations.

“The aircraft BELL UH-1H (HUEY) helicopters, were formally received by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja in a brief ceremony held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Thursday 20 June, 2024.”

In a video also seen by SaharaReporters, the Coordinator of Nigerian Army Aviation, Brig.-Gen. Musa Alkali, said the introduction of the air platforms marked a new chapter in army’s operational readiness and ability to respond swiftly and effectively to diverse security challenges.

Checks by SaharaReporters showed the helicopters were not new as claimed.

The aircraft are former forest fire fighting choppers in South Africa used for many years and subsequently abandoned.

SaharaReporters learnt that NA 011, was previously registered as ZT-RAI while NA 010 was previously registered as ZT-RCS while in the country.

They were however bought and refurbished by the Nigerian Army authorities.

A check on avcom.co.zashowed both helicopters were put up for sale on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

“Two Bell UH-1H Huey helicopters ZT-RCS and ZT-RAI were recently noted flying at Rand Airport painted in an overall olive drab livery. These former forest fire fighting helicopters had been in South Africa for several years but were put up for sale earlier this year.

“Photos and videos subsequently published on social media platforms showed several Nigerian Army helicopter pilots received training on these two helicopters at Henley Air.

“While these two helicopters have not yet featured in this update as cancelled from the local register they were subsequently shown on social media and news agency posts on delivery to the recently-established Nigerian Army Aviation Airwing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria on 20 June wearing the serial numbers NA 010 and NA 011 respectively,” SA Flyer, an African aviation magazine reported on August 24, 2024.

https://saflyer.com/register-review-june-2024/

According to Defensehere.com, NA 010, which was previously registered as ZT-RCS in South Africa was manufactured in 1968 and it was used by the US Army before transitioning to the civilian market as N518CB.

It was then exported to South Africa by Northwest Helicopters in 2014.

NA 011, previously registered as ZT-RAI in South Africa was originally manufactured in 1966, the website added.

It was also used by the US Army until 1996, after which it was transferred to Helinet Corp in California and operated under the registration N313CF.

Later, it was used by Northwest Helicopters and Turbines LLC before being delivered to South Africa in 2015.

Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, could not be reached for comment as calls to his line were not answered.

He had also yet to reply to a message sent to him on the matter as of the time of filing this report.

A starlink user sent this to me. Here is the message:

Last month, we increased the monthly service price for Starlink in Nigeria to account for inflation, helping us maintain operations and continue delivering reliable service.

Today, we are temporarily suspending this price increase as we navigate regulatory challenges.

If you've already been charged at the higher rate, a one-time credit will be applied to your account to cover the difference. You also have the flexibility to cancel your service at any time.

We remain committed to providing high-speed Internet in Nigeria, but we need regulatory support to make the improvements necessary for a better customer experience. Without these approvals, our ability to continue delivering service is at risk.

Thank you for choosing Starlink and supporting our mission to bring affordable, high-speed internet to more people as many people around the world as possible.
