Romance › What Vices Do You Potentially Have That People Stereotype You With? by nlPoster(op): 12:21am On Jan 10, 2020
My problem as I've pointed out, is when folks tag me as prostitute, which always has me doing a double take.

I think it (the label) could be because Nigerians in general are perhaps seen as very much so.

all that fawning and kissing up to whites in Africa especially on NL that you people do
morpheus24:
I think the perception that Africans suck up to whites is a skewed one full of misconception . . .

If you ask me Africans are simply acting as they always do towards Whites in and out of the Americas, as they do any other races of people

It's possible but might be doubtful. It could also depend on the types of problems.

Then again sometimes there might not be enough marriageable age genders, therefore they have to marry outside their town.

Thanks for asking.

You know there are some statements or write up which if not checked out by some readers or listerners, they may be termed as lies or deceptions.

The scripture says in

Deuteronomy 13:14 a, Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth.....
My number one rule for information on the internet in general, specifically nairaland, is always assume its false unless you either personally know it to be true or unless proven otherwise.

This is especially as regards slander.

Another general rule I follow is dont make what's not your business, your concern. I know it would be difficult in a gossiping context.

Ghanaians possess the same positive traits. They can match Nigerians in terms of anything you can think off except they hardly do drugs, scamming and are less corrupt. Now why should other Africans emulate Nigerians when Ghanaians are of better behavior huh
I'm wondering why the "positive traits" attributed to Ghana and Nigeria seem to correlate with the fact they're both English speaking countries?

100% correct
That's incorrect.

We should learn to disagree without feeling offended.

The first part is correct- namely, Africans generally prefer mingling with other Africans

The second part is not 100% correct- since Africans do live in predominantly AA neighborhoods

I started reading the article thinking it had a lot to offer until I realized it was just another write up largely based on anecdotes and lacks substance. Yet my fellow naija brethren have also been quick to commend the efforts of the writer without offering much needed criticism as to how myopic this mindset is. I agree, we need to come together as the writer concluded but with the attitude and lack of empathy displayed in the write up, I completely understand why you might not get along with African Americans.
With the user name okpa (I googled it), I doubt the writer meant the article to be taken seriously.

Nothing wrong with the food, but obviously the write up is meant to be light hearted.

Let me ask though, do African immigrants actually fail in their endeavors?
Daisy17:
Yes they do. There are many African immigrants who live on welfare/benefits despite being able-bodied.
Did they fail at anything or they simply utilized the benefits available to them?

I'm asking because almost every able bodied African immigrant, works. But of course every assistance helps.

Most African immigrants to the United States came here for economic advancement. They do not have any political agenda. They are willing to take any job and do not blame the “system” when they fail in their endeavors.
Let me ask though, do African immigrants actually fail in their endeavors?

For Africans, after suffering many years in civil wars, military coups and other problems, they are happy to be in a country that offers them freedom. They are ready to integrate into the American culture without getting involved in the lingering racial conflicts.
I think Africans/Nigerians and AAs would still mostly dislike each other even without all these factors mentioned. I could be wrong though.

Actually they are.

Most African immigrants to the United States often live in mixed neighborhoods instead of black neighborhoods
Many African immigrants do live in black neighborhoods. But as times change, perhaps they move.

@ topic

I'm trying to identify more with the black experience, instead of only the Nigerian one. The problem I have identified is me assuming just because we're black, means we're all the same, when even in Nigeria everybody doesnt think that.
