Politics / Confusion As Another Court Declares Ugochukwu Uba Anambra PDP Candidate by Nnadigoodluck(m): 8:37pm On Jul 19, 2021
Obiora Nwabunike, judge of an Anambra state high court, has declared Ugochukwu Uba as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 6 governorship election.

This is coming a few hours after Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, judge of a federal high court judge in Awka, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of Valentine Ozigbo as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the same election.

INEC had excluded the PDP from the list of cleared candidates, which was released on July 16.

The electoral body said its decision not to list the name of any PDP candidate was in recognition of court orders served in relation to the primary election of the party.

Ozigbo and Uba had emerged as the PDP’s governorship candidates from parallel primary elections.

Ozigbo subsequently filed an ex parte application on July 14, asking the court to recognise him as the authentic governorship candidate of the party.

The presiding judge refused to grant Ozigbo’s prayer, but instead issued an order of accelerated hearing of the suit.

On the other hand, Uba had approached the court in suit number A/230/2021 to determine if the primary election conducted by the national executive of the PDP at the Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre on June 26 was done according to the law.

He asked the court to determine whether an Abuja high court order, on a suit by one Samuel Anyakorah against PDP, bordering on validity of the process that produced Ndubuisi Nwobu, the party’s factional state chairman, had been set aside or stayed.

He also prayed the court to determine if the process of the primary, which produced Ozigbo through ‘super delegates’, was in line with the provisions of the electoral act, which states that primary elections would be done through delegates’ congress.

In his ruling, Nwabunike said the court order, which restrained PDP from conducting the primary election, had neither been stayed nor set aside.

He said that PDP erred by not clearing every legal huddle before the primary election, hence the process was in defiance of the law.

The court, therefore, resolved that the primary, which produced Uba at the Paul University’s complex on June 26 was lawful and in accordance with the electoral guidelines.

The judge also awarded N10 million in Uba’s favour as cost of litigation.

Politics / Okeke-Led APGA Dismisses Court Ruling On Soludo by Nnadigoodluck(m): 8:21pm On Jul 19, 2021
The Jude Okeke-led leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed the ruling by the Awka High Court, which affirmed former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Charles Soludo, as the candidate of the party in the November 6 Anambra state governorship election.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Ikechukwu Chukwunyere, averred that the ruling earlier given by High Court in Jigawa State remained in force.

He argued that apart from a higher one, a court cannot vacate the decision by another court with the same jurisdiction.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had last Friday published names of candidates in the election with Chukwuma Umeoji listed for APGA.

The party spokesman stated: “We have invited you here today to brief you on the happenings in our Party and the desperation of some anti-democratic forces to desecrate the judiciary and jettison the rule of law principle which is fundamental in a democracy.

“On Friday, July 16, 2021, the Independent National Electoral Commission published the list of candidates for the Anambra State Governorship election in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC Guidelines for the election.

“In compliance with the judgment of two competent High Courts, INEC published the name of Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, as the valid and duly nominated candidate of our great party. All institutions of state must obey the judgment of Courts. That is the position of the law.

“A case that was filed by the Oye Camp without notifying the Jude Okeke group, we heard of it on Friday, quickly mobilised our lawyers to apply to join the case but the judge refused because allowing the joinder would mean taking an adjournment for consequential amendment of the processes to reflect the new names joined.

“The judge dismissed the Motion even when no lawyer in the case filed anything in opposition.

“Having failed to deliver the judgment on Friday, the judge this morning in a Court surrounded by over a hundred and fifty policemen and soldiers and wherein every person who was not a lawyer was chased out of the court, delivered a judgment and predictably granted all the prayers of the applicants and even more.

“We must state that the said Victor Oye is not the Chairman of APGA but the Chairman of Forum Shopping in our Courts. He has authorised the filing of several cases in different courts seeking to just see what he would get to validate his illegality.”

Chukwunyere alleged that the party chieftain authoriSed cases to be filed by all his executive members with a promise of monetary reward for anyone that could get a favourable judgment.

“The judgment from Awka cannot vacate the judgment from Jigawa. They are courts of coordinate jurisdiction. They cannot change the position of INEC with it. Hopefully, this matter will be sorted out soon and peace will return to APGA,” he stated.

Politics / Re: Court Reinstates Charles Soludo As APGA Governorship Candidate by Nnadigoodluck(m): 6:03pm On Jul 19, 2021
Victor Oye faction should not appeal to an Appeal Court. They should be moving from high court to the other to get conflicting orders and let time pass.

INEC will kukuma remove APGA from the ballot entirely.

Unfortunately for apga, the primaries is not being challenged but the processes leading to it thereby any apga member has locus

You're the right, the case seems to have merit and the court will hear it as any APGA member has the locus standi to challenge it in a competent court.

Ibo is her own enemy. What a pity. It should not even be something ibos contest that Soludo should come first even before Orki Uzo Kalu and Okorocha. Ibo is her own enemy.

No matter how you hate Lagos and Jagaban, he uses brains. This Soludo will be used by Jagaban if he was a Lagosian...and even Osinabjo would work well with him too. If not for party issue, I'm sure Buhari people wouldn't mind working with him. Soludo is who Apga is taking to court. It shouldn't be so. They should even find an automatic ticket for him. Mehn!

They're taking whoever came out of the primary to court and not necessarily Soludo per se, because they believe it's against the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended). And also, it's not Ibo, but Igbo.

Politics / 212 Automatic Delegates To Pick Anambra PDP Guber Candidate On Saturday by Nnadigoodluck(m): 2:51pm On Jun 25, 2021
About 212 automatic delegates will meet on Saturday to elect the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming Anambra state election.

This is coming against the backdrop of two court judgements nullifying the PDP recognized Anambra state executive committee of the party as well as the outcome of the ad-hoc delegates’ election earlier conducted by the party.

To enable it to go ahead with the process to pick its flag bearer against the judgments, the PDP has now dissolved all its executives in the state and has resolved to use automatic delegates in place of the ad-hoc delegates for the Saturday exercise.

Automatic delegates are mainly past and present political office holders who are still in the PDP.

A statement issued by Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary Friday, confirmed the use of automatic delegates for the Anambra state primary Saturday, explaining that it is in line with the party’s constitution.

The statement said: “In view of the two judgments of the court served on our party, the National Working Committee (NWC), on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) hereby dissolves all the executives in our Anambra state chapter.

“However, our processes towards electing a candidate for the purpose of November 6, 2021, Anambra governorship election subsist.

“Our processes continue as we adopt a lawful process of allowing our eligible automatic delegates to carry out the responsibilities of electing our candidate for the governorship election.

“Accordingly, the governorship primary to elect our candidate for the Anambra governorship election holds as scheduled on Saturday, June 26, 2021.”

The PDP, therefore, directed the South-East Zonal Working Committee of the party to oversee and manage the affairs of the activities of the Anambra state chapter of the party, pending when new executives will be elected for the state.

“All governorship aspirants on the platform of our party, leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and, supporters of our party, as well as the people of Anambra state, are guided accordingly,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the PDP has appointed Governor Sam Ortom of Benue state to head the Anambra state Gubernatorial Primary Electoral Committee.

The party’s NWC also approved Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, as the secretary of the committee.

Members of the committee include Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state; Member; Hon George Daika, and Hajiya Habiba Muhammed Deen.

Politics / Festus Okoye: Why APGA Won’t Participate In Anambra Governorship Election by Nnadigoodluck(m): 2:34pm On Jun 23, 2021
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday explained that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) may not be allowed to participate in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State due to the party’s non-compliance to Section 85 of the Electoral Act.

The commission has also urged any political party that is not satisfied with its position to go to court.

INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Publicity and Voters’ Education, Mr. Festus Okoye told THISDAY that APGA had earlier informed the commission of its election to hold ad-hoc delegate congress on June 23, only to later write the commission to declare that the delegates’ election had been conducted.

According to Okoye, “On the 16th of June 2021 the party forwarded to the commission the list of delegates for its congress for the purpose of nominating its candidate for the said election.

“On the 18th June 2021, the Secretary to the Commission responded to the said letter and notified the party that it did not notify the commission of the date of the congress where the ad-hoc delegates were elected as required by Section 85 of the Electoral Act”

Okoye further explained, “ By Section 85 of the Electoral Act 2010(as amended), every registered political party is legally obligated to give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 21 days’ statutory notice of its intention to organise any convention, congress, conference or meeting for the purpose of nominating candidates for any of the elective offices specified in the Electoral Act.

“In the statutory notice given to the Commission, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) proposed June 23, 2021 for the conduct of its State Congress for the purposes of nominating its candidate for the Anambra State Governorship Election holding on the 6th of November 2021”,
Okoye explained.

The INEC national commissioner said, “Based on its satisfaction of the 21-day statutory requirement for the holding of its congress, the Commission has concluded arrangements to monitor the said congress and will monitor the congress-taking place on the June 23, 2021.”

Okoye said that prior to the letter of the June 18, 2021, the Commission on the June 3, 2021 drew the attention of all the political parties of the imperative of complying with all constitutional and legal requirements for the conduct of party primaries as the commission is obligated to keep records of the activities of all registered political parties.

He stated that “political parties must remain within the confines of the law and legality in the conduct of their primaries and avoid issues and challenges that may complicate the due conduct of elections.

“However, aspirants, candidates and parties that are aggrieved by the actions, decisions or activities of the Commission, or who complain that any of the provisions of the Electoral Act or any Act of the National Assembly regulating the conduct of primaries of political parties and the provisions of the guidelines of a political party for the conduct of party primaries has not been complied with can approach the courts for redress.

“Political parties must conduct due diligence on the list and personal particulars of their candidates and ensure that party members remain the sole determinants of those that are nominated. Violating the law and the guidelines for the conduct of party primaries will only set the stage for acrimonious primaries and avoidable judicial intervention,” he said.

NYSC / President Buhari Should Pay Ex-corps Members Their Arrears – Comrade Nnadi by Nnadigoodluck(m): 8:41am On Apr 25, 2020
My name is Comrade Nnadi Goodluck, I am a writer at nyscinfo.com, I served in Iganna, Iwajowa LGA of Oyo State with 2018 Batch B Stream 1 and my state code is OY/18B/1863.

My place of primary assignment was Iganna high school, Iganna and I passed out from NYSC on 27th June 2019, I want to use this medium to remind president Buhari that he is still yet to pay the arrears of ex-corps members after he commenced the payment of the New Minimum Wage to serving corps members on January 2020.

Corps members like federal civil servants are also eligible and qualfied to receive the arrears, since they are also serving under the federal government.

I am not writing for myself, but writing for all the thousands of corps members who passed out from the scheme and still waiting and hoping on the federal government.

Most of these ex-corps members waiting for the arrears are still unemployed due to lack of jobs after NYSC, they're only anticipating the payment of the arrears just to sustain them whilst they continue the job hunting.

President Buhari signed into law the Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-Enactment Act, 2019 on Thursday, 18th April 2019, thus changing the salary of workers from N18,000 to N30,000 and subsequently changing the NYSC allowance from N19,800 to N33,000.

The affected ex-corps members are not happy, because during the government of ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2011, the then affected ex-corps members were paid in arrears, what is now holding president Buhari in 2020?

I read on the news sometime in February where the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim said that corps members are not eligible for the arrears, because they are not civil servants but on national service, I guess he wasn't aware that corps members received arrears during the tenure of the ex-president Jonathan.

The ex-president Jonathan signed the Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-Enactment Act, 2011 on 16th March 2011, thus changing the salary of workers from N7,500 to N18,000 and subsequently changing the NYSC allowance from N9,775 to N19,800.

After signing the bill in March, his administration started the payment on July 2011 and the 2010 Batch B corps members that passed out on Thursday, 16th June 2011 were all paid in arrears for complete 4 months, beginning from March, April, May and June 2011. With the payment, they all received a total of N40,100 in arrears.

The 2018 Batch B Stream 1 and 2 are eligible to be paid in arrears, including the 2018 Batch C Stream 1 and 2, 2019 Batch A, 2019 Batch B Stream 1 and 2, and 2019 Batch C Stream 1 and 2.

President Buhari should pay ex-corps members their arrears, they worked for it.

Health / Coronavirus Is Real In Nigeria, Stop Doubting - Comrade Nnadi Goodluck by Nnadigoodluck(m): 2:54pm On Mar 23, 2020
CORONAVIRUS IS REAL IN NIGERIA, STOP DOUBTING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

Nigerians saying that there's no coronavirus in the country, how did you come up with that assumption.

Those saying that it can't kill a black man, how did you come up with the facts.

Ignorance is a disease, it kills faster than the actual coronavirus.

Yesterday, Atiku Abubakar's son tested positive for the virus and you're still doubting.

Today, Nigeria has confirmed their first coronavirus death, a 67 year old man that came back from UK around 2 weeks ago, identified as a former Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, (PPMC), Suleiman Achimugu. Until his death, he had an underlying medical conditions; multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy. Coronavirus killed him, because it's confirmed to be more deadly to those with underlying health conditions, older people and those with weaker immune system.

At the time of writing this, The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that Nigeria has a total of 36 confirmed cases, with 1 death and 2 discharged persons. Lagos has 25 confirmed cases, FCT has 6, Ogun has 2, Ekiti has 1, Oyo has 1 and Edo has 1.

Stop doubting, coronavirus is real and it's currently in Nigeria.

Ghana has 24 cases with 1 death.

Ivory Coast has 26 cases with 0 deaths and 1 recovery.

Cameroon has 56 cases with 0 deaths and 2 recovery.

Senegal has 67 cases with 0 deaths and 5 recovery.

Burkina Faso has 99 cases with 4 deaths and 5 recovery.

More than 349,000 cases and 15,000 deaths have been recorded worldwide.

To those still doubting, how's Nigeria any difference

I'll enjoin y'all to stay safe and always make use of your hand sanitizers or soap and water in the absence of sanitizers. Social distancing is very crucial in reducing the spread of this deadly virus. Also avoid crowded areas at this crucial time in the world.

Politics / US Congress Moves To Nullify Visa Ban On Nigeria, Others by Nnadigoodluck(m): 9:25am On Feb 02, 2020
THE US House of Representatives is set on a fresh course of collision with President Donald Trump, this time over the Friday restriction of immigrant visa against Nigerians and nationals of five other countries.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Saturday that the new policy smacked of discrimination and undermined the US global leadership, constitution and heritage.

The House, according to her would soon establish a “no ban act” against the immigrant visa ban which also targets nationals of Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania and Sudan.

She spoke as President Muhammadu Buhari set up a committee to study and address the travel restriction against Nigerians.

Heading the committee is Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.

Pelosi, in a statement yesterday said: “The Trump Administration’s expansion of its outrageous, un-American travel ban threatens our security, our values and the rule of law.  The sweeping rule, barring more than 350 million individuals from predominantly African nations from traveling to the United States, is discrimination disguised as policy.

“America’s strength has always been as a beacon of hope and opportunity for people around the world, whose dreams and aspirations have enriched our nation and made America more American.  With this latest callous decision, the President has doubled down on his cruelty and further undermined our global leadership, our Constitution and our proud heritage as a nation of immigrants.

“In the Congress and in the Courts, House Democrats will continue to oppose the Administration’s dangerous anti-immigrant agenda.  In the coming weeks, the House Judiciary Committee will mark-up and bring to the Floor the NO BAN Act to prohibit religious discrimination in our immigration system and limit the President’s ability to impose such biased and bigoted restrictions.  We will never allow hatred or bigotry to define our nation or destroy our values.”

Aregbesola heads FG committee to study situation

President Muhammadu Buhari constituted a committee to study and address the situation.

His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the committee is headed by the Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola.

The committee will work with the US authorities, INTERPOL and other stakeholders to ensure the proper implementation of the decision.

The statement also explained the diplomatic decision, which was taken against Nigeria and five other nations, applies the suspension to the issuance of immigrant visas, clarifying that other forms of visas are not affected.

It, however, reassured of Nigeria’s readiness to continue to collaborate with the United States and its allies, especially when it concerns global security.

Adesina said: “On 31st January 2020, the United States (U.S) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced temporary travel restrictions on six (6) countries including Nigeria.

“For Nigeria, the restriction is the suspension of the issuance of ‘immigrant visas’ to Nigerian passport holders only. This suspension shall come into effect on 21st February 2020. The suspension does not apply to other U.S visas such as those for official, business, tourism and student travel.

“The DHS states the suspension of ‘immigrant visas’ became necessary following a review and update of the methodology (performance metrics) adopted by the U.S Government to assess compliance of certain security criteria by foreign governments. This resulted in certain enhancements on how information is shared between Nigeria and the U.S.

“Nigeria remains committed to maintaining productive relations with the United States and its international allies especially on matters of global security.

“Accordingly, President Muhammadu Buhari has established a committee, to be chaired by the Minister of Interior, to study and address the updated U.S. requirements.

“The committee will work with the U.S Government, INTERPOL and other stakeholders to ensure all updates are properly implemented.”

Atiku urges US to spare innocent Nigerians

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, pleaded with the United States to spare innocent Nigerians of the travel ban imposed on Nigeria.

He said Washington should rather restrict the ban to officials of the Nigerian government responsible for actions that warranted the ban.

He urged the US authorities not to punish the Nigerian people for the inadequacies of their leaders.

In a statement he personally signed, Atiku said he received  “with sadness the policy of the government of the United States of America to place Nigeria on its travel ban list.”

He said “While I understand the reasons given by the Trump administration (the failure of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration to share information and to address issues of terrorism), the ban does not take into account the pro-American sentiments of the Nigerian public and the solidarity previous Nigerian administrations have had with the United States.

“I urge the government of President Donald Trump to consider the history of US-Nigerian relationships. Nigeria was one of the few African nations that joined the US led coalition during Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991, when the United States championed the liberation of Kuwait.

“The Trump administration may also consider the pivotal role Nigeria, in partnership with the US, played in bringing peace to Liberia, an American sphere of influence, that now enjoys democracy because Nigerian blood and money paved the way for peace in that nation.”

Atiku also recalled how Nigeria has consistently voted in support of the United States and her allies at the United Nations and other multi-lateral world bodies.

He reminded the US of Nigeria’s position as America’s biggest trading partner in Africa, even where Nigeria had alternatives.

“Nigerians love the United States and have been a major force for the positive development of that great nation: 77 per cent of all Black doctors in the United States are Nigerians.

“Nigerians are also the most educated immigrant community in America. Surely, the US stands to benefit if it allows open borders with a country like Nigeria that is able to provide skilled, hardworking and dedicated personnel in a two-way traffic.

“The current Nigerian administration may have its deficiencies and deep faults, but the Nigeria people ought not to be punished for their inefficiencies.

“Once again, I call on President Trump to consider adopting measures that individually target those in government who have failed in their duties, rather than target the entire Nigerian population.”

NYSC / Cobbler Rapes Corps Member, Tries To Kill Her In Ogun. by Nnadigoodluck(m): 11:34am On Jan 13, 2020
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a cobbler identified as Olamide Babayemi for raping a corps member and attempting to murder her. It was learnt that the 25-year-old cobbler, who raped the 22-year-old Microbiology graduate at Greenland Estate in Mowe area of the state, also reportedly recorded nude videos of her.

The rape victim claimed she gave Babayemi N18,000 to buy her a phone which he never did.

Confirming the incident, the state’s Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement said the suspect raped the corps member while she went to his estate to collect her phone.

On interrogation, the suspect who claimed to be the victim’s boy friend, confessed committing the crime but blamed the girl for calling it quit with him after she graduated from the university.

The statement read; “The suspect suddenly called her on the 2nd of January to come to Greenland Estate in Mowe and collect the phone. On getting there, the suspect forcefully removed all her clothes and raped her.

“The victim stated further that after forcefully having her carnal knowledge, the suspect soaked her clothes in water and used his phone to record her naked video which he started sending to some of his friends.

“When he realized that the victim might report him to the police, he made an attempt to sniff life out of her but she was lucky when the suspect’s mother called him on phone to come and meet her at the gate of the Estate which gave her the opportunity to escape.

“The DPO Redeem camp CSP Chris Amanyi mobilised his detectives to go after the suspect who took to his heels immediately but he was apprehended on 4th of January 2020 when his mother brought him to the station.

“On interrogation, the suspect who claimed to be the victim’s boy friend confessed committing the crime but blamed the girl for calling it quit with him after she graduated from the university.

“When asked for his reasons behind recording the nude video of the girl, he said he did so as to prevent her from reporting him to the police.”

Oyeyemi also revealed that the Commissioner of police, Kenneth Ebrimson directed that the suspect be transferred immediately to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
