In the world today, one story that comes up in the mind of almost everyone when the word 'birthright' is mentioned is the biblical story of Esau and Jacob. It is how Esau out of hunger, for a pottage sold his birthright and how it was quite painful that he could not get it back though he sought for it in tears. The Esau and Jacob scenario seem to play back right before us. And this have led to the heart piercing question, Have you sold your birthright? Many events which occur before us today exemplifies how Nigerian youths have sold their birthright, mortgaging their future and posterity to the evil pottage of our grand political gladiators who have been in power since we were born and have remained in power changing from one office to another till date. During elections, you fight and defend and do anything you can to vote and secure your votes for a politician , only for them to get into power and shut the door against you. Have you sold your birthright? The youths have always remained the powerhouse for political campaigns and evil obnoxious political practices. Our politicians offer peanuts in form of money, juicy promises, food items and commodities that cant last more than a week, cheap political stunts like walking and dancing in public squares, standing on the queue, eating in pubs, buying made in Nigeria goods in local markets and groceries and other cheap political innuendos to decieve the people, especially youths. Once the election is over, the tide of events changes. Their 'fake ' mobile lines becomes unreachable, purchase of made in nigeria goods ends, holidays now ends in Dubai, children is withdrawn from public schools to Ivy Leagues, healthcare becomes a tourist affair in Europe and India and the electorate is been deceived and made a people to be trampled and good for nothing. Having been decieved, one begins to ask, have you sold your birthright for deceptive 'stomach infrastructures'? Some of our political leaders do not know the basics and tenets of good governance. Yet, during elections, they make incredible and unrealistic campaign promises; use the youths for political blackmails against good and better opponents. Out of poverty, indifference, apathy, myopia, nonchalance, fear, ethnoreligious sentiments and selfishness , we offer ourselves as political arsenals to destroy our heritage. Against this background, you need to answer, Have you sold your birthright? Our nation is blessed with all it takes to enjoy democratic and good governance such as improved standard of living, liveability index, high life expectancy rate, high literacy rate, food security, good infrastructures, high per capital income ratio, reduced gini coefficient and other economic and social welfare indices for a developed civilized society. THIS IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT! But like Esau, we have sold our birthright to a group of cabal holding this nation at ransome, who have no clear cut economic development and citizens welfare policies and plans but with a penchant for lootocracy, destruction of the rule of law, bending the laws to suit their whims and caprices, inordinate show of flamboyance and extravagance, intimidation, suppression and oppression of the electorate without sympathy, empathy, and love. When the youths who should have revived the voice of hope, show the beacon of light, lead in the forefront of national revival and unity becomes unconcerned, egotistic, ethnoreligious biased, chavinist, it becomes pre-emptive to ask, Have you Sold your Birthright? The politics of today have become the politics of money and political man-no-man. Credibility is gone. Patriotism is dead and buried. Ethnicity and tribal affiliations has been revived as the labours of our founding fathers seem to be in vain. Over the media you will see and hear negative vituperations against one another across ethnic divides. This, the politicians have used to our undoing. In the 3-Arms of government, there is no ethnicity because they have a common goal-LOOTOCRACY. Voices are only heard when one arm seem aggrieved in the sharing. Even at this, it is the youth who is paid money and devilish peanuts for protests, placard carrying in defense or attack of political criminals. Right before us, our actions often times supports impunity. While issues of cheap, unpatriotic, unnecessary protests, political blackmails is a recurring phenomenon, we insist to ask, Have you sold your birthright? In all these state of hopelessness, there is a group of patriotic Nigerians who having made up their mind have come to boldly say WE HAVE NOT SOLD OUR BIRTHRIGHT AND WE WONT SALE OUR BIRTHRIGHT! These are members of the New Nigeria Vanguard. They are the ones ever ready, dedicated, and selfless to building a New Nigeria that is Secured, Peaceful, United, Progressive and Corruption-free for Now and Posterity. You can be one of us. According to Section 308 of our constitution, there is a restriction in legal proceedings on some political office holders; the President and Vice and the Governor and his Deputy. However, the word 'immunity' you wont see. This entails that these officials shall have 'no civil or criminal proceedings' instituted against them during their period of office. They cant be arrested or imprisoned nor can they be arraigned in a court of law, during their term of office. The bone of contention against this provision by many Nigerians is that the corrupt practices associated with many of the state governors, especially, were committed under its protection. The argument sounds loud that if these high officials had no cover of immunity like every other citizen, they would have been more honest. By implication, this means that the possibility of prosecution and arraignment, where there is no immunity, would have deterred the governors from perpetrating the alleged acts associated with them. However, does the fear of punishment eradicate crimes? A critical look at the proposition of Deterrence throws more light. According to Hannah Arendt, the distinguished German-born US philosopher and historian, 'no punishment has ever possessed enough power of deterrence to prevent the commission of crime'. That has got to be true because even when a thief is been mobbed, people still lose their possesion to other thieves even in the process. Moreso, with the introduction of capital punishment and death penalty there would be no murder committed, no cases of kidnapping, no cases of drugs peddling and their likes yet we still have myriads of such cases. Thus, the removal of immunity clause definitely will not stop the bneficiary from ravaging the national tressury to the detriment of the electorate. Rather, it will keep the President and Vice, Governor and Deputy perennially engaged in one lawsuit or the other throughout their terns of office, even on frivolous issues that may have personal and selfish undertones. Moreover, it will create a situation where political opponents of all stripes will have a field day in creating anarchy in government thereby denying the electorates democratic dividends . The distraction will be so massive that the fabric of wholesome and good governance will be torn into shreds. The provision for restriction against these high state officials should hence be seen as a protection of their office rather than a source of opportunity for their misdeeds. Finally, its devilish and wicked for a political leader to commit heinous crimes of lootocracy under the guise of this restriction. In New Nigeria Vanguard we say NO to all forms and facades of bad governance. #tomorrowsleaderstoday! |

My mother is a well known woman for her strength, wealth and many useful resources in her disposal but she yet Lives in poverty. My mother Is 56 years of age and yet no one is ready to have her for long as a wife because she is no more in her halcyon days due to her careless act towards all her possessions. Who will save my mother? Her children hated her so much that almost all never prayed for her to get back to her senses, rather, they all wished to go out for another mother outside home. Many persons are so much interested in her wealth, they are all around her to extort her and get away from her, leaving her with wounds that not even her riches could heal her from it. I have been hearing about the ways of my mother right from the womb as a developing foetus and now that am outside the womb, the bad stories about my mother never changed even in the presence of Change, rather, it is becoming more complicating each second. How I wish my mother was never blinded by corruption that has encamped her so tightly that she has forgotten her children needs her so much to survive. My mother is 56years today, 1st of October year 2016. At this age of hers, she has very little to point at as an achievement but rather, all she planned to do is to sell some of her Assets which should be enjoyed by her children. Who shall save my mother and bring the right mind of a good mother back to her so that she can see that her children needs her to enjoy their birth. All I pray for my mother on her birthday is that she gets back her days of Halcyon. In all, we still love our mother because no other woman deserves to be called my mother! God help my mother to be a truly virtuous woman! An Envy and great joy to motherhood! We at New Nigeria Vanguard have decided to be very proud children of our Great mother who has been a sleeping giant! ...From the NNV Editorial team! #tomorrow's leaders today! |

Nigeria is a country blessed with abundant natural resources enough to care for her citizens. However what is happening in Nigeria today transcends beyond partisan politics, and should prompt we the Nigerian youths to be highly concerned as to how the affairs of this country is being managed. Dabbling into the affairs of how Nigeria is being governed from democratic angle and reminiscing backward the many years of interferences and misrule by the military regimes which are greatly characterized by delinquency, corruption and unaccountability we can see that we are yet to recover from this, even with democracy in existence for the past 17 years. The expectations of the citizens in whole for good governance were quite high when Nigeria returned to the democratic system of government in 1999. The chances of the first elected president in the fourth republic to revitalize the history of Nigeria were thrown into the ocean due to greed. However, the 1999 constitution drafted, created the avenue for corruption to thrive and giving room for lavish spending. Looking at the past and present leadership personalities we have got since 1999 only one thing comes to mind as their common denominator, 'Recycling' of same old politicians since 1960, jumping from one party to another and inserting their children and family members at one point in time. It is pertinent to know that since 1999 till date all the political office aspirant either consciously or sub consciously have a common objective and goal to achieve which is eating out of the national cake at the expense of the poor masses even those that goes in with common sense have garnered uncommon senses within a short period of time. The only time they fight themselves is when one of them feel shortchanged during the shares of the poor masses blood and flesh (common wealth). Politicians perceived Nigeria common wealth as a forest where one goes into with baskets and various containers to gather wealth for themselves and immediate families living the poor masses to cry and gnash teeth while they make merriments. This is a call to the youths of this country to have a rethink on how we want our present and future lives to be determined. The change we craved for is in us and is here with us. Join the New Nigeria Vanguard to put an end to bad governance, recycled politicians and political godfatherism! #Tomorrow's leaders today! GOD BLESS US

Before we begin, let's look at an overview of what exam malpractice is all about. Examination is defined as a set of questions or exercises intended to evaluate skills or knowledge. While malpractice refer to the improper or unethical conducts by a professional or official Therefore exam malpractice can be defined as unethical or improper conduct in an examination to gain accreditation for skills or knowledge that one is not qualified for. Education is the bedrock of any society's advancement as it is the form through which knowledge and skills are passed down from one generation to the next for that generation's improvement and utilization. Since education plays a prominent role in societies advancement, and examinations is the only education evaluation method available then examination malpractice is a major problem. Lets imagine a scenario where a certain kingdom's mainstay is agriculture and due to the nature of their geographical location, irrigation plays an important role in their agricultural system and the skills for the operation and maintainance of the irrigation system is passed on from one generation to the next. Assuming that a certain generation have a lot in common with certain students today and didn't effectively learn the operations of the irrigation system and through various malpractice schemes and in some cases in connivance with some of their teachers happen to pass the qualification exams and become irrigation 'experts'. When the next planting season arrives and these new experts are handed over the system, due to their non qualification, they will either waterlog crops or starve them leading to crop failure leading to a poor harvest leading to famine and then civil unrest then anarchy takes place and finally the kingdom is not destroyed by an outside force, but by an inside force. This scenario may seem far fetched in today's society but we should understand that our irrigation experts today are studying to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, scientists, leaders and parents. And they are all involved. Now imagine a generation of 'qualified' professionals who are only qualified on the basis of their proficiency in malpractice. Imagine going into an operating room only to discover that the 'doctor in charge' can't differentiate one organ from another ... Seems far fetched? Not really, not if we continue like this. Imagine when this generation of cheats become leaders! Imagine when this generation of sorters and corner cutters become parents! Nigerians are not academically lazy (neither are they physically lazy for the record). We are just used to a society that celebrates short cuts to our undoing. In the US, Nigerians are the most educated immigrant community, ranking higher than Asians, Hispanics and other African Countries. 60% of documented Nigerians living in the US have a college degree. Nigerians in Ivy League schools in Europe and the US routinely outperform others. A Nigerian family the Imafidon has been officially named the smartest family in the UK. We all know of Philip Emeagwali and his supercomputer. On the 7th of May 2016, history was made at the Howard University in Washington DC as 43 of the 96 graduating Doctor of Pharmacy students were Nigerians, receiving a total of 16 out 27 awards presented that day. So what's the difference between the above and the current case to be obtained in Nigeria. The Bible posed a question 'if the foundation is destroyed, what shall the righteous do?' Well in Nigeria, the righteous joins the crowd! This is very pathetic! The only difference between the hundreds of Nigerian Youths abroad making history and the millions in Nigeria making 'history' is the country's attitude to education. Contributions to the state of education that has encouraged the breeding of the hydra headed monster called exam malpractice comes from every angle as most of us are all accomplices, either aiding or abetting or doing the both. From underpaid teachers and lecturers, to under qualified and unqualified teachers and lecturers, to parents paying for their wards to patronize miracle centers, to students themselves going into examinations with foreign materials and electronic devices for he purpose of malpractice, including examiners and invigilators turning a blind eye because they have been bribed, even the Vice Chancellor's list and its ranking and celebration of mediocrity above excellence for those who know someone who knew someone. What of the lecturers who accept sorting from students and force them to buy books they 'published'? To other lecturers who receive sexual gratification to 'pass' students Virtually everyone here included is guilty and none may be qualified to cast a stone. But shall we continue with finger pointing, on this route of blames and casting aspersions? No! So whats the way forward? We need help. As simple as that. A country with miseducated youths is bound to fail. 1. The Federal government in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and State governments should declare a state of emergency in our education system. 2. The system should be raked with a fine toothed comb from the minister of education down to least education staff on the government payroll. 3. Strict panels should be set up to investigate cases of malpractice and misconducts involving both students and or lecturers. 4. We should start an awareness mission right from the Primary (Basic) level of education up to our higher institutions, educating and creating awareness on the dangers of malpractice and benefits associated with self reliance and discipline. 5. Strict monitoring and invigilation of entrance examinations at all levels And maybe one day we will get it right. If we must build a new Nigeria that can rely on herself, we must start now and start strong. Remember a generation that is misinformed is deformed and cannot perform. Lets join hands to build a New Nigeria where their is zero tolerance to examination practice and restore back the glory of our lost educational values! “Parents listen to your children We are the leaders of tomorrow Try to pay our School fees And give us sound education” This would sound like a “song of freedom” over forty years ago in the ears and minds of school children in the 1970s. We sang this song with an unparalleled zeal of a black slave in the colonial era looking up to a light of liberation like it was imminent. Forty years down the line, our own children are singing this song, oblivious of the heartbreak we have and are experiencing due to the failures of our leaders who gave us this false song of hope over 4 decades ago. Looking at the polity and governance, we see our grandfathers, those who tutored our own parents who sang this song with us. They never left! It is still the same old set of political figurines, with the same political cognition and perception, and a reluctance to succumb to the reality of their intellectual antiquity steering the wheel our our nations politics and economy! We have colleagues who have traversed the difficulty of excelling in their respective fields, now to become trailblazers. We have seen the youthful class of this prestigious nation become awardees of great commendations for their exploits and achievements in various endeavours/pursuit, from Europe to Asia and America, and other parts of the continent. We have watched and sat at discourses of the younger Nigerians only to get up with feelings of anger and devastation by the waste of ideas and innovation that would transform the economy of any nation of the earth. Nigeria is known not to appreciate its natural resources despite the abundance we possess. The same goes for the unimaginable vastness of intelligence and strength that myriads of young Nigerians are saturated in. Tell me, what is the business of a 60 years plus politician in an office that should be driven by strength and innovativeness that boils in a younger man? What is his mission? Could he ever answer questions required to solve the particular problems of that sector with solutions that meet up the current times? How long is Nigeria going to stay in the shadows of archaic figures and expect to grow? How long can we put up with the decisions coming from the minds of those who governed us from 1960s and have failed? It is said that “only a fool does a thing the same way all the time and expects a different result” Let the lazy, corrupt and slack oldies who have contributed their quota in this nation whose results we are all good judges of, go and rest! Let the stronger, sharper and younger minds hold the stakes! Let the Revolution And social awakening Begin!!! Book a page in Golden History Pages! Join the New Nigeria Vanguard!!! |
