TrueHeart365: then we'd still be a colony, poor, with britain keeping 70-80 percent of our revenue. these french colonies will never be truly independent until france stops to exist
Vikkie14: I also have this love for the 34, very potent and se.xy jet, the nose(housing the radar) and the Cockpit alone could kill.
Patches, Henry, Nemesis2u, tdayof and Airborne360 could contribute their Life savings and salaries and just get me one... Merely seeing one at my backyard would suffice.
On a serious note, I don't think this generation of NAF decision makers have any "feelings" for it...maybe due to Threat assessment and Requirement.
Yes 1 squadron of JF17 and 1 squadron su 34 this will give a deadly team
Henry240: Nobody is degrading Nigeria. You can only degrade when you actually have proper information. Anybody who comes online to say Nigeria has an Air Force of Trainer and Transport aircrafts, when the Nigerian Air Force has 84 offensive aircrafts needs to have his head checked out by a psychiatrist.
You can however say, I know we need 4th gen multi-role fighter jets or air superiority jets or better strike jets. This is absolutely correct, not to make a wild claim that we only have transport and trainer aircrafts.
aircraft ˈɛːkrɑːft/ noun an aeroplane, helicopter, or other machine capable of flight.
I nkow im not blind with all those vid released by NAF no one can say NAF doesnt have offensive cap. He just have to be a little patient for the jf-17.
SupremeCourt: Video in the news after the pictures. No name of any country or flag on the new double seat jet. So can it be Nigerian that is expected since last year?
The new JF-17B variant has been particularly designed to meet international demands of prospective buyers who called for in-flight evaluation and conversion training. Maybe and I hope !!! This is the one NAF is going to acquire JF-17B’s swept tail houses equipment for a new three axis fly-by-wire flight control system. The nose also gets a size increase to accommodate an active electronically-scanned array (AESA) radar which will be core subsystem for the upcoming JF-17 Block-III – the biggest update to the JF-17 since its launch. And if we are going for this one so, it will be the block III
lionel4power: this is the last am commenting onthis topic.
sincerely i know how things are with buying and integrating new modern military technology. I know that it is difficult, with the ever dwindling funds availaible. Plus world politicking et al... Believe it or not few people here follow defense related news and information online more than me--insults aside. Heck i even have a military news blog. so i know what am talking about.
The problem is not with me but with some people here who don't want a contradictory response. When they say Nigeria is the best in the world we should all shout 'YESSIR!!' when deep down we know that we are seriously lacking. I just posted a honest-to-God comment based on our fighter to TRAINER/TRANSPORT ratio and i was expecting a really intelligent counter-argument instead all i got was a fast screeching dive-bombing assault from the Nigerian Defense forces guys here.
Ask them to rein-in their horses instead and not me.
Ok No problem you are free to say what ever you want but the thing is what you are saying we awair and all of us want what you want. But saying it like this is degrading ... But for sure im ok with there are more to do but dont degrade the Nigerian Military here on internet..
I don't throw insults, i see no need for that on the internet. I usually leave the insult slinging to the retards. (They know themselves).
Anyway moving on. To answer your question, The NAF Purchased 12 Chengdu F-7 Interceptors and 3 FT-7 DUAL SEAT TRAINERS. incase you didnt know.
secondly, The F-7 is a Mig-21 clone out of a long line of clones. It was a defective aircraft from the start although it was good at dog-fighting other less modern aircraft. Its nose is way to small to mount any decent air-air radar system (forget the outdated grifon radar). It has no look down. shoot down capability, it has extremely short combat radius. Questionable BVR missile capability, t'was optimised for GCI only operation during its early years. its un-reliable, (we already lost four -- incase you dont know thats a lot considering how many we have).
well i don't fault the plane because that what we deserve for choosing mediocrity.
But how come your men prefer attacking people instead of reasoning first? I clearly stated 'an airforce of trainer and transport plane' which is TOTALLY CORRECT yet they didn't blink just jump into the attack. so expectantly!!
TO BUTTRESS MY POINT TO THOSE WHO CANT THINK. WE HAVE FOUR TRAINER PLATFORMS AND ONE INTERCEPTOR PLATFORM.
WHILE HAVING MORE THAN EIGHT TRANSPORT PLATFORMS. ATR 42 Boeing 737 C-130 Hercules Aeritalia G.222 Dornier 28 Dornier Do 228 Super King Air Fslcon 7X
plus others so my assertion was spot on.
Ahah kai... Look you said it your self 4 diferent training platform... Buying military equipment is not like going to the market you cant buy what ever you want at any moment ... Marshall said it even if you have the cash they wont sell it to you... We buy what we can but things are slowly changing... Everybody knows that we have to standardise everything thats why many things are being done.. Look at how we struggle to buy super tucano ... Tucano a COIN jet ... But yet blok two times by the us goverment and this time maybe we will get them ... We had Jags what happen ? Brand new and one of the best if not the best at the time what happen ? You must understand the situation and be grateful to our pilots than saying those kind of stuff. Ask everybody yes we all want F-22 in the inventory but we all know that it is dificult. Time to time we are all frustrated, but dont expose it everywhere.... And you must appreciate when something good is being done... Right now the Air Force is far better than few years back... We see many made in Nigeria product the best strategy for having a good air force, we are going to build a Prop/transport plane... If you look at our new acquisition is very standardise Attack Heli ( omly MI 35M ) good infrastructure for the personel, Special Forces.. Even in communication look at the media they are more professional.. modern stuff all over the place and this is the begining... so stop pls.. In few years you will see how the air force will be .. And our armed forces at large. And we are 4th strongest military in africa according to Global fire power...
lionel4power: Air Force of trainer and transport plane.
Please don't attack me for i speak the truth.
Sometimes you are doing too much all of us want to see some F-15 like jets in our inventory, watch tge documentary and you will understand. The Nigerian Air Forces hasnt been funded like we should but today things are changing. You must be patient. For now I am very optimistic the political class and the military are more than willing to do more dont want to be suprised by another futur conflict. Just take a look at our resent acquisition, we acquire a full Mi-35M with everything from avionics to NVision. Tucanos are coming, Jf-17 even those babys are taking so much time we can understand with the fact that Pak cant build jets faster...be patient things are changing
Tinfoil: It does not make sense spending this much on defense. This should be spent on the citizens, schools, university, infrastructure, housing, agriculture,.....
Lol without defense, citizens schools univerties infrastructure housing agriculture... Will be destroyed. We need to modernise our armed forces acquire new capabilities then you will see Nigeria growing faster better or otherwise this will be a jock... South-south insurgency Pipeline destroyed ( Trilions of Naira destroyed ) north east insurgency infrastructure school universities houses busness ... Destroyed ( Trillions of Naira destroyed ). In reality the only way to have peace is true power.
Adminisher: Of course F7 will miss target. Why do you think NAF is buying Super Tucano and JF 17?. For accurate munitions delivery, I would even take Super Tucano over JF 17. No offence meant
Super Tucano are good aircraft but are not coming to replace F7 but Alpha Jets in the COIN ops we are currently adding something not replacing something. JF 17 is for interception so complementing or Replacing F7 nothing sure about it. And the F7 has not miss the target..
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully test fired 30.1mm ground to air Inert Head Rockets locally produced by its Research and Development Team. The rockets were test fired during the Weapons Meet at Kwenev Air Range, Makurdi to commemorate the 53rd anniversary celebration of the NAF. Also produced by the NAF R& D were the ground based rail launcher and vehicle mounted rail rocket launcher. The rocket launchers are fired through a remotely controlled firing based system. .
Very nice, the Armed Forces are really working now. Im pretty sure they are going to suprise us in the coming years
jteku: Can anybody help with what TVC mean by a "gunboat aircraft.
Activities begin to mark Airforce’s 53rd anniversary
The Nigerian Air force has started activities to mark its 53rd Anniversary with a Juma’at Service at the Air force base along Airport Road in Abuja.
The service was attended by high ranking Air force officers led by the chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar.
The Air force Chief told journalists that the climax of activities to mark the Air force week would be the unveiling of the recently acquired Gunboat Aircraft.
He believes the gunboat aircraft would make a difference in the war against the insurgency.
nemesis2u: IMO it is total life cycle cost spread over the operational life of the aircraft , including MLUs , spares , periodic maintenance and related infra.
actually this way it turns out cheap
u guys r confusing it with grocery shopping (i am sorry but i could not resist the pun)
.... I havent said this is not true, Im talking about the time there were the crisis btwn Nigeria and Cameroon ...... At that moment France launched operation «Aramis», to traine equip Cameroun in a conflict with Nigeria...
IbnSultaan: France isn't an immediate threat Unstable Govs from CMR-CHAd-NIGER are bigger threat in the event of any actipn that leads to there fall n instability in these countries .
I dont agree France is the GodFather of those countries you listed, if there is a problem and Nigeria is involved France will imediatly take the opposite side. We have example with the crisis with Cameroon, France is the country that build BIR of cameroun and imagine against who ? ... If someone slap you once, you must be careful.
Henry240: It is a very big threat to Nigeria. Not an immediate threat, but a very significant future threat but as usual, expect our politicians not to see it.
We are at the mercy of France, completely surrounded on all sides by a french military which supported Biafra secessionists during the civil war.
oh yes 3M death thats something no one can forget, thats why I said is the country I fear the most and by the way Hate the most. Thats what I was trying to say more of a reminder that they are in control. French bases is a very huge problem, the biggest problem is how to make them go back to their country and I afraid its not for today. Lol I Understand why Algeria is that kited. Our Politiciens are or blind, or doesnt even know the history of Nigeria... Or they are so afraid that they have already capitulated in their mind. But like I said we are going in the right direction, today everybody agree we need to modernise the military and at tv the military is focus on that. We have new bases, others are coming. Im very optimistic
