its a very big threat .

France is trying to tell Nigeria if u do anyhow you see anyhow
What I wanted to say by direct threat is that the jet wont stik but rather a show of force and a reminder that they are boss over here.

A french jet stationed in chad. Is this not a threat to Nigeria already no matter what their reasons be? angry angry angry

Other countries such as Russia would have stationed some su 34 or 30 to keep them in check. We av the F7-Ni sha undecided undecided undecided

Oga Airborne what if u are ordered to use ur alpha against a rafale.Hmmm God dey.
For now is it not a direct treat to Nigeria even if France is the country I fear the most.. But the treat France pose is weekening Nigeria in the region. Dont critisiz the F7 like that we didnt have the choice soon we are going to change it. For a country that have more 180 M people not be able to respond to every style of treat is dangerous but right now Nigeria is going in the right direction.

give up this giant of africa nonesense...nigeria doesnt need it....

you are not allowed to talk down other african nations..thats childish..nigeria may be good in somethings, other african nations are better in other things..

i would abandon that political giant of africa nonesense.....

jonathan can go fvck himself...
First it is not a nonesence, is not because people say USA is the Giant thats mean that we are saying chiit about other countries. I havent downgrade any nation.. I corrected something false about Nigeria. And if you like or not what you think has no impact on fact Nigeria is the Giant of Africa and GEJ was at least right on this, Barack Obama too everybody. And their is nothing more normal that this Nigeria is good at something, other countries are better at other things ... And also before saying stuff take time and read, I was on defensive not offensive..

South Africa retook the number 1 spot economically

There is no meaningful way of measuring military might

There are no "giants" only regional powers.

Stop with the foolish and meaningless statements

The fact is alot of arguments here are unnecessary. Nationalism has eaten so deep into people in here.

Alot of arguments here are based on this one is betye4 than this etc but they never mention why instead start E-war.

Arguing like an intelligent fellow brings joy and respect. Imagine someone saying the f16 is a better aircraft that the Rafale with no reason or whatever. The next action is using vulgar languages at each other. What's wrong with analyzing speed? Turn rate? A rafale uses sososo missile and if able to lock on the F16, the f16 won't be able to do sososo due to sososo.
Now that's an intelligent argument, but instead useless arguments start in here.

Yes nationalism comes in and I'm not in support of any one here but I'm Nigerian if you say shit at Nigeria, I'll just ignore you. I have seen alot of useless, unintelligent response from nairalanders so I'm used to it.

Patches seems to be a guy always picking on Henry posts even at the slightest issue and Henry too comes in hot.

The damn fact here is only few people have access to technical capabilities of some of these hardware being discussed in here. Just a bunch of internet fanboys arguments. I don't usually contribute If topic ain't about Electronic Warfare, Aircraft and communication where I have first hand information. This thread is about military and someone brought out economy issues? When you all have nothing to argue again, I see people taking arguments to each other country economy, HIV, Internet and what so ever. Moreover I see people taking about race here angry What's with race and military? Look at the Algerian guy here, the guy does his things well and avoid issues. There was this issue of him claiming men of the Nigerian Navy SBS were not Nigerians but the guy apologized with him posting a picture of their face uncovered and admitting his mistakes.

We all should learn to accommodate each other.

How can you claim to be the continental military giant when you share the same continent as Egypt... Or Algeria... Or Morocco... Or Angola... Or Uganda... Or South Africa... Or Kenya

The fact of the matter is that there is no "giant of Africa". Just regional powers.
Patches Nigeria is the Giant of Africa : Economy, Population, sattelite Petroleum etc. Nigeria is the 4th strongest military in Africa... Why must people call Nigeria Geant of Africa is more on the economic aspect, talking military the biggest force in Africa is Egypt.. But only military doesnt make you Geant you need some of everything...

NNS Karaduwa is built in Nigeria. There is a larger 50 meters vessel under-construction.
Yes I know but not at the Nigerian Naval Dockyard, the NND has the capacity to build ships up to 10 000T

Onboard Nigerian navy Seaward defence boat II, NNS Karaduwa on the high seas.

NNS Karaduwa is Nigeria's second Seaward defence boat, it was designed by the Nigerian navy and built by Dormanlong Nigeria Limited and Blue flag Nigeria Limited.

Approx 40 meters in length, she is armed with a 30 mm, Chinese origin RWS, 2 X 12.7mn HMG and 2 X AGL.
Why are we not building those ships at the Nigerian navy dockyard?

You are really funny.

My best guess is JF17B and that should be block 2.
You are the one who is funny JF17B is for training we can maybe have some but Im not talking about it Im talking about our multi role jet, second ask me why I said that... The block 2 is already in production and nothing from Pakistan saying that they will produce block2 for someone. Thats why I bet on JF17 block 3, I said is my opinion... No one knows what is going on

What you said im ok with that, but maybe you dont understand what I said. When I said budget Im talking about the defense budget. What MoD receive every year. Im for an increase in military spending. It is not the only reason for everything that is happening butbut part of the problem thats all.

Bu**s**t excuse honestly sir.
Jakeporeshenko has said my mind already so no need to repeat. Will just drop a copy here grin undecided

"I really feel like it's not about having the money, it's about the will to spend that money, Nigerian leaders have this state of mind were they prioritize the wrong things.

Those multi billion dollar arms deals are out of our reach for now as long as this state of mind (were defense is not a priority) is not eliminated.

To me the key to turning things around is a west African arms race, we need one radical leader in our neighborhood, one who understand the real threat terrorism is."
The will to spend.. What are you guys talking about.... Whatever you are going to say the budget for those 10 years doesnt reflect a country that is currently at war. The Defence budget is low ... Common sence, no budget = no maintenance + no acquisition... Common sence plz

Wrong Sir. Your own cited SIPRI states 43 total, with none coming post-2015 lipsrsealed undecided

23 modernized T-72 B came from Ukraine between 2014 and 2015
20 T-72 M1 from the Czech Republic in 2015. Check the logs again.

And fellow Naija ppl, edakun, why are all our T-72 used and so few,new thing no dey sweet us?!!

If I am correct we once bought 100+ Vickers MBT without any pressing need, so why all this piecemeal purchases at times of war?
The budget

All these plenty, plenty comments are not required.

The only area in Nigeria were there is active, large scale military operation ongoing is the N.E.

Nothing of such exists anywhere else in the country apart from soldiers supporting regular police in flash point areas.

Patrols in the South-South are routine naval or military patrols out at sea or in the creeks. In the South-East, nothing of such exists.
Yes I know you havent get ly point, we cant say there is nothing in those area. And the military is always talking about those areas is the focus right now. I was arguing on way we need 100.000 soldiers not less because the military must be present in all those area. And for the way people talk about our current situation we cant blame the military on everything. Ones the civil war ended Dicon almost shootdown because there were nothing going in.... Today we are paying the price so people must stop blaming the military for what is happening but rather support them for wonderful job their are doing right now

Patchesagain:
Uganda only has 50K soldiers

Less men = more money for equipment

Hence why I said it was bad for Nigeria to expand the army to over 100,00 and why I argued for a reduction in the size of the landward arm of the SANDF
Nigeria is in a diffenrent situation. First keep in mind western embargo, otherwise Nigeria will be operating stuff like Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight, our wesland lynx, jags and others would be still active C130 fleet and everything and we will not waste money "rebuilding them" because what we are doing is not fixing them the money we are spending on them is huge... But instead using this cash to acquire more + 20 brand new A29 ... And we will not be going for JF-17 tge F-16 stuff didnt started today the airforce wanted western jet since but never got one... Our trainers are all western trainers...
For the number of soldiers the opposite will be dangerous. Nigeria is fighting on 2 opposite front at the same time, south south and north east. We some exchange of fire in Kaduna south, Adamawa, Zamfara. There are terrorist all over west africa in Burkina, Mali, Niger... We have groups like Hesbollah who has a group in Nigeria, other terrorist groups like Ansaru and who knows, we have Biafran Psychopat, we have a small budget in defense ( this is not appropriate) but we understand when you look at the size of the country:economy, agriculture, education etc... The number of soldiers is just one of the good things the military did.. And Nigeria is not the size of belgium, sambisa forest has the size of belgium. Nigeria is massive.

I still don't believe Nigeria will order just 3 JF17 thunder.

12 Mi35 from Russia.
Plan to order 12 super tucano from US but 3 now coming get from Brazil
20 drones
11 super mushtak from pakistan

So why 3 JF17 thunder?

Was it not the same budget that claimed we were getting 4 Mi35M but later turn out to be 12?
Tge first batch of JF17, we are maybe going for at least 18-21 of them ( one squadron). Less will be nonesence... Dont over think we are not crazy at this point...

This is German doctrine, the solo sniper thing. Not urgently i will not say that, like you said it wilk be very hepful the sniper guys more often save soldiers life., but thr 7.62 sniper is the priority thats for sure.
