Nigerian Air Force reactivates 10 aircraft The Nigerian Air Force has taken delivery of 10 aircraft which is the first successful completed in-country Periodic Deport Maintenance of NAF aircraft. It was mention that the Reactivated Jets which include NAFs 452,453,454,455,456,457,461,466,470 and 913 were part of those rehabilitated and recommissioned under the Periodic Deport Maintenance. The aircraft were reactivated by the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Service Limited in conjunction with Sebena Technics a foreign partner. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh explained that it would go a long way in the deployment of troops to tackle the present security challenges facing the country.
The former Minister of Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, said the dictates of the Federal Government’s transformation policies emphasised looking inwards and capacity building for self-reliance. In addition, Mrs Olusola Obadan called on the military to focus more on Research and Development. |

Algerian1: They have air refueling capacity , they can use Sudan bases or libyan skies and nigeria neighbours skies are no mans land ( cameroun , south tchad , center africa , niger ) no good radars capacity , no air defense , no jets to stop them , they can refuel in many close skies to nigeria , no one will see them ( maybe only french radars in this countries ) , with their AWACS they can get a safe control of the skies temporarily . and refuel over cameroun or south niger or republic center africa
Egyptian air force with their Rafale, F16 , AWACS , can strike easily in 48h all your major air foce bases , all your navy bases destroy all your Navy and for economy if they strike oil gas fields and facilities , here Nigeria will have a big problem not only to sustain a war but to maintain its economy .
Of course if this unlikely scenario happens it would only be limited to aerial strikes, with air superiority for Egypt , given the distance no ground attack is possible without hudge loses
thats why I find it strange that a big country like nigeria has no modern Air defense capacity , We will see air defence missiles after TRADOC is completed ( radar cov.) |

Covert1: Interesting read. However Nigeria doesn´t depend on France. It is mutual co-operation. By the way we have defence and economic agreements with France. Yes, France has treaties with it´s neighbors like Cameroun but even there in the Bakassi Peninsula it was present not with direct military engagement but with French military advisers still we invaded and occupied the peninsula successfully. They used the option available to them the world court. President Obasanjo considered that the loss of Bakassi didn´t affect Nigeria´s strategic oil reserves and accepted the ICJ ruling which many believe was politicised. Thats the farthest they came. Cameroun in Paul Biya is the foremost problem of Nigeria in francophone Africa and we´ve had worse before in Felix Houphouet-Boigny still it was by proxy means the French meddled by arming and training Biafrans.
Today aside Cameroun we generally enjoy good relations with francophone countries where our interests align with the french. With Cameroun It has been better under President Buhari but will be much better with Biya´s exit.
Regional domination is Nigeria´s natural rights and the Nigerians leave no one in doubt about that including the french. The french and Nigeria will not fight a war. Our interests on foreign intervention have mostly aligned. No one is ruling out miscalculation as there is no permanent friend or enemy. When Abraham Lincoln was asked during the American civil what America´s response should be to domineering European powers, he said they should be allowed to flex their muscles while America should focus on its domestic challenges to grow and that inevitably they would become more powerful than Britain and France. His prediction came true. This Nigeria should do. The European powers like France are in decline. Countries with demographics like Nigeria are on the rise and will dwarf France in 25 odd years.
The goal should be maintain commensurate military strength to deter aggressors real and imagined and power projection capabilities for regional security and push to attain the status of a meduim power in the short term. We are already among the 20 largest economies in the world. Why look for trouble. you write well we all both agree on that, we must consentrate on Nigeria first, but we can't be blinded. You said we have good relationship with the others west African country what I agree to 50% indeed it is far better than it was, but an event showed that those countries are not that on the Nigeria side.. Not somany months back Nentanyahou said something very embarrassing about Nigeria, then he came in Africa to a summit with ECOWAS countries, eventualy Nigeria didnt went there but the others head of states welcome him with huge smiles and all the stuff, I dont think the Germans, Chinese or Russians in the same position we are going to see ther allies welcome him in thise way, and that is even if they welcome him... We are going a little bit off topic, but I can assure you I usualy follow France 24 and on this channel, Nigeria is the bad boy in Africa with many ambitions blabla we all know the song. Thats why I always say Algeria did the right think after being slaped they opted for Russia + Germany ... Even as an economic partner, France doesnt stand in front of Germany or even the other half-friend that we have UK. I dont want problems Im not crazy lol Nigeria currently has no chance... But we must put France in mind some times when we procure weapons just a little bit will be enough. And be sure that if we want to be the largest partner of all those countries, dicide in the region, we need to put those guys in mind in 1st place... |

Covert1: You might want to write a new thesis on regional power balance. First, regional powers are states within a given region of the world whose size, political, economic and military strengths greatly outweigh, influence and dominate it's neigbours which enables it to determine the course of events in it's sphere of influence to its advantage almost unchallenged.
The current French deployment is insignificant in the balance of power among the three regional heavyweights. When you talk of reinforce their positions rapidly in a hypothetical war that would be subject to the forces of disruption to their lines of re-supply. You make it sound simplistic. War is not a picnic. What are the Generals learning in the classroom. The French military may have capacity doesn't mean it can win a war here. In fact the Europeans have bloodied their hands in Africa so much they consider it a nightmare to invade. We know the history.
France is a powerful country but even in Europe it is not the dominant power. The French may be present in west and central Africa but it is not a dominant or significant military in the region. Economically it is significant but not dominant either.
Nigeria is France' largest trading partner in Africa. The French may be a geo-political competitor but not at least presently a direct military threat neither was it before. It has more investments in Nigeria than all francophone African countries combined. The French have told Nigeria directly it is willing to sell it military arms without reservations and they do. We have bought in the past from them lethal equipment and we are still buying from them.
Both countries have more to gain working together. The other option is bad news.
The JF-17s are great assets. No doubt. Be very careful while talking about France, has you mentioned right now the situation is Political rivalry im ok BUT never thing that if Nigeria push harder on something where France has some interest nothing will happen... Those guys are not Choirboys, they have treaten Nigeria in the past in the 60s then with the Bakassi issue ... If Nigeria has a problem with a Francophone country thats means we have a problem with France it self they have sign a treaty (they are not that free Politicaly).. The french forces in Africa are maybe of small number but they are the best that country can offer La Legion Etrangere; Nigeria's goal in Africa is clear with the intervention in Gambia and if you watch the news the Navy is clear we want to be the dominant power in the region. Therefor is clear that the Nigerian interest & France interest are not complementary. Here is small documentary on the page of France Army https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=5LEL3vna28U , it is clear they are not going no where even if African countries want them out ... The situation is clear if Nigeria want to dominate in Africa she needs to do new girl friends, but those girls has already a boy friend lool something like that. Do you really thing that Bakassi will be lost if there were no pressure at first the Nigerian military was more than ready but when France come in if we like or not France will have kick our ass and then create they f... biafra that they love more than Nonesence Kanu. Thats why Im glade that we have at least restored some sort of friendship with the US & and we are very close to China. For me we must look a little bit in Germany, Russia, Japan & South Korea. But if you want to depend on someone who every sigle year criticise you because you have protected your country, and is rivale in the region this is not a good idea... Economic ties are good to create friendship Im ok but dont think thise will prevent them from taking any action money is something power is better.. |

LTGEN: Russia and Nigeria have signed a G2- G2 agreement that involves cross- training that will center on :Terrorism/ Counter -terrorism, Shared experience in Peace keeping, The Defence Minister of Russia and Nigeria met on the sidelines of this years EXPO. They discussed the next set of DELIVERY of our Helios and they want to take a hard look at the YAK-130. We are now OBVIOUSLY waiting on PAKISTAN, and unlike when we bought things Tokunbo Style it takes time. Things that are becoming very obvious to me: 1. Last week the Russian Consulate in Abuja condemned in very strong language the recent bombing in the N.E. and pledged to work with the F.G. over the bh issue. 2 The Russian Def. Minister did not meet with the Nigerian Def Minister just so they could sign an agreement for Nigerian service men to play War Games in Russia , 2018 that is what Defence attaches do. 3. 2014/ 2015 Nigeria sent a Tri -service group to Russia and by all accounts they have acquitted themselves very well, IMHO something similar is in the offering - there is a history there on both sides if the Nigerians who went there did not feel they learnt from it THEIR OPINIONS would most def being sought. 4. This talk / discussion of Nigeria acquiring/ procuring a jet from Russia started last year ( summer) NOT from Nigeria from a credible Russian source. This year (SUMMER) the two def Ministers met it is beginning to appear that REGARDLESS of the JF-17 ( coming) Nigeria is interested in buying either the YAK -130 or A PLANE from the MIG FAMILY. The YAK-130 is the best replacement for mighty Alpha Jet. |

Please intelligent discussions only no political discussion on GEJ vs PMB, This might be the first MAJOR PROCUREMENT for the N.A. Thank you in advance NO DERAILMENT. For the MRAPs I see Volk and/or K 4386 Typhoon-VDV; For the Artillery pretty sure is for SPHs even if I prefere the Chinese one.. or the BM-27 Uragan since the army like this type of Arti. If it's about Tanks I hope with all my everything lol is the Armata no T-90 pls... Henry240: Nigerian Defence Industry
The Nigerian defence sector continues to experience some phenomenal growth. You begin to wonder why we haven't pursued the defence and security industry sector more vigorously in the past.
Nigerian company, Demfas Aerosystems now has a response to drones right across the world.
Drone gun with a range of 1200m launched, and it's proudly made in Nigeria.

From first look no one can say if the Ara Mrap is excellent or not, we must wait the Army verdict. The only think we can debate on is the design of the vehicle thats all. For the design the first thing that came on my mind is WTF is a hugeeeeee Mrap, then I pointed the tires dimension. For the ground clearence, the ARA Mrap has a pretty good ground clearence in one of the pictures (the black & white picture) we can see the ARA from the back during the manufacturing process and also we can easilly noticed the V-hull. |

Brazilian made Tucano warplanes will arrive NAF air base this 2017 for combat action. No bother to dey worry ya sef chief, all technical details have been discussed by NAF and Tucano owners, the deal has gone too far to fail and President Trump is ready to fight anybody that dreams of blocking Nigerian Tucano from USA after he authorized the Brazilian sale first for urgent delivery from Brazil ahead of USA. But with this type of policy acquiring equipment wont be that painful to the economy but will be actually very good since we are very depend on oil this can be good alternative and at the same time equiping all branches of military faster... jakeporeshenko: Spot on, in fact we are now in a critical stage of the fight, we either finish them once and for all or they refocus their efforts and regroup with a difference strategy, this is something we have witnessed severally in the past.
Annoying past is the key to ending this war lie in some low cost solutions the military seem to overlook.
•We were discussing human intelligence in bidexiii’s thread.
• SOF Night time raids, these will be so effective because 99% of the enemies fighters don’t have access to NVGs or even night fighting experience.
•targeting and assassinating key leader one after the other.
•going after their finances and smuggling routes.
Of course all these things mentioned above do not fall on the army alone, all the stakeholders in the NE need to create scenery and work like a team. Yes target the key leaders this would have been my priority, because is only the leaders that fucker who finance bh trust, isis wont trust new leaders only the old ones are really trusted. The more new leaders bh will have the less trust their supporters will have in them ... It will be a mistake believing that shekau is the only head of the snake (is the most important for sure) but ther are others sneaks, cut all the heads and bh would have problem with interacting with ther boddies |
