For once the Army is moving,
The NIgerian Army has established the aviation corps, COAS, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai " We have compiled list of platforms from Russia, American & China origin including simulators & UAVs" "One project that is dear to me is the take off of the Nigerian Army Aviation (corps)..."
Platforms considered :
-Mi-17 (due to its ruggedness, operanility & multirole capability) I personnaly want it because the Air force is using it as well
-Roivalk AH (after witnessing a demonstration in SA on the platforms and its employability) for me yes if maintenance is done at home
-H125 helicopter. For me is the best light utility heli, my only problem with it everybody know...

Let's go my "juju" brother what do you think will best for NA, and choices that they will do

spoke my mind.

Nigeria knows how to kill it's own industry.

same reason DICON is still the way it is after 53 yrs
Some Finance will maybe save this industry, a fund controlled by the MoD specially for the defence industry. And if we want Dicon back so they have to work, less buying more under licence...

177 units of MRAPs, not a bad number nonetheless.
Oh yes not bad 177 units this is very great but standardise will be better, but is still a good news !

Sorry buddy but if you look at current trends, the Tank will be long gone before modern ATGMs become obsolete. Fact is APS are never going to work 100 % of the time....and although its great to have an APS, any ATMG fired from an aircraft it's bye-bye tank...since even the most modern APS find it very difficult to track objects fired from vertically above.
Lets say ypu bet on ATMG having the edge in the futur, & me on Tanks havin the edge in the futur.
Tanks are not build to fight against planes or helicopters, even 30 mm canon from an heli can make serious damage or destroye a tank
(Armata is coming with Anti-air weaponry... I tell you this is the Tank of the futur)
What tanks do no other vehicle can do that job, ATMG are like hit and run away weapon. 1 shoot and even APS doesnt destroye everything, ATMG doesnt heat everyday, but locate the shooter erday
*Buying T90 for the same price ass Armata for me this will not be a good idea
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nok234: 10:32am On Jun 02, 2017
jln115:
I didn't say Tanks are obsolete(yet) but ATGMs certainly the much better investment, firstly even the best APS can't deploy vertically thus any atgm fired from either a steep hill, mountain or aircraft your fvcked, not to mention APSs are susceptible to clutter so when you are in a mountainess or Forrest terrain your fvcked.

So yeah ATGMs are a much better bet.
Ok I think that we are on the same subject, what im saying is that the edge ATGM had on tanks has reduce with passive/active PS but ATGM like you said are very good. (I havnt said ATGM are obsolet to but are less effective or maybe going to be obsolet against modern day tanks ). An example is with Trophy on the Merkava. No tanks were damaged during Operation Protective Edge, with the Trophy Active Protection system performing over a dozen interceptions of anti-tank weapons including Kornet, Metis and RPG-29.
For sure ATGM are very used, build it in the country will be a better investment than buy it from another country. Why I want a tank because it is more easy to buy a ATGM during a heavy fight than buy a tank when you are under fire. Im not expert in military thats why I listen to experts and they basicly all agree attack is the best defense.
And in APS Russians has the lead they are the first to devolp it and say that the APS used on Armata is the best in the world...

And Nigeria is more fighting right now in Forest than in cities ... Thats why we need 7.62 more than 5.56 and the military did a great choice with the beryl.

Hope you meant the tank is becoming obsolete, since all relatively modern atgms will penetrate the Armata.

British Army on tanks And how to Be prepared for futur conflict a country that will loose one capability over another is very supid ... We have to be more multirole and have at least the capability to respond effectively against any type of scenario. Money is not something that stay when you have some buy something that will be useful for a long time and standardise the more than you can.
I said why I think Armata will be our best choice first it is nearly at the same price as T90 and by far more capable in conventional and unconventional warfare, T90 didnt scared the Abrams and the US military wanted to only upgrade it until the Armata ... Armata today is forcing all the western world to build new tanks the US will build they new tank with Germany and maybe france... And for everybody to understand why am I saying this is that for me the biggest treat to Nigeria is another proxy war that will involve superpower (France) I said it period ! Maybe big economies wont fight each other because they will be mutualy treaten but Nigeria is not a superpower yet and any big country can do something without fearing to be hit by us.
Armata will be up to date for much years than T90.

No infact Im talking about ATMG, With technologies like Active Protection System & Passive Protection system there are no miracle weapon in war even a Knife can kill ... But a prefere a tank than a Atmg in nearly any situation. And more Armata could shoot missiles too, it has a Radar lol the radar found in the t-50 a f...k.. AESA Radar this thing is not a tank... Is the futur !

Russia will sell if you are ready to buy. The problem is our government. Are we willing to order for a minimum of 10? That's 37 million USD
The navy needs things, the Airforce too.

There was a time we had enough money but lack leaders with foresight.
Thats true

grin grin Putin would probably fall of his bed while laffn at d bolded

Armata for export?..u're kidding me ryt
Anyway..for the foreseeable future of d battle landscape in Africa...there will be no tank wars in our backyard so any 3rd gen tank would do just fine
http://www.ibtimes.com/russian-defense-manufacturer-ready-export-armata-tank-foreign-buyers-2096923
http://www.realclearworld.com/blog/2015/07/who_wants_to_buy_russias_new_tank_111328.html
http://tass.com/defense/842938
http://www.african-defense.com/defense-news/algeria-and-russias-long-and-continuing-military-cooperation/

Countries already expressing interest on the Armata are China, India, and Algeria.
Russia says export will begin in 2020
And you guys with your "juju of the futur" that never works, tanks Nigeria need tanks more than ever. We all now the moment the T-72 came the war against Boko Haram (that no one predicted ) had change. The Armata is build for the two convetional and unconventional warfare. It will save money to have 2 in 1. Everybody is going for multirole platform it is more cheaper to have something that makes many stuff alone.
Why the Armata because our soldier will be safe, more safe than in a T 90, they will be more motivated.
Like I said Armata is build for almost every scenario, more protection against ATGM, making it very obsolete.
For the export thing Russia will be more than willing if we have a good deal with them. I study geopolitics, and I can tell you with confidence Russia has everything to win and are more than willing to be close friends with us. I can back up evrrything I say with sources. It will take time and we are going to go off topic...

The former Theatre Commander of the counterinsurgency operation in Northeast Nigeria, Lucky Irabor, a major general, on Tuesday handed over the command of Lafiya Dole Counterinsurgency Operation Theater to his successor, Ibrahim Attahiru, also a major general.
Mr. Irabor, who is now to head of the Multinational Joint Task force in Chad.

He has been very good ! Now that he is the Head of the Multinational Joint Task Force, Chief of Army Staff is not very far ... Im personally satisfie of what he did when he was Theatre Commander. For sure he has a very good futur

we rather go for T-90S & IFV both wheeled and tracked (3rd gen equipment)
T-90S unit cost 4-4.5M Dollars & T-14 Armata 3.7M-4M Dollars. Rather go for the Armata, Western countries are building new tanks, if we want to save cash rather go for the Armata this tank will still be powerful enough for even new tanks that will be build in the futur. Its better to buy something that will still be useful for at least 20-30 years ahead than buy stuff for imediate use and obsolete in the futur.

huh huh huh huh
France equipment are very good but seriously Nigerian Armed Forces must not be dependant on them this is too risky ..... We all seen what happen to our equipment when subject to umbargo I prefere we build an economic relationship with them. For military hard ware better buy a Tucano for 50M, we must go USA, Italy, China and Russia. To have a well-balanced one between the West and the East. Forget the French equipement.. We need to take our Country a little bit seriously depanding on France is stupid look at Algerians they are allergic to the French equipement! Only some Panchar France cant put pressure on them and we and Algeria have a little bit the same history

It is no longer news. It has now been confirmed, the Nigerian Navy would receive a minimum of 3 units of Eurocopter AS565 medium weight helicopters.

I'm sure Navy pilots are as excited as i am. cheesy cheesy

Official news first provided by @Jakeporeshenko.

Hopefully the Navy grows the number to a minimum 6 units. That should give us a pretty 16 helicopters for the Navy.
So we are going to replace our AW 109 because Im pretty sure those helos are going on the P18

Some of you should start feeding your IDPs living in Borno and relocation those living in Kamer before talking of a regime change in a better organized, more powerful country like Cameroon . See me citizens of an unstable country (from Boko to pipeline bombers to Fula herdsmen ) talking about the supposedly threatening instability of Cameroon ... lmfao if there should be an instability in Cameroon post Biya (which is very unlikely to happen ) Nigeria will just suck it up like we sucked it up during Biafra absorbing millions of Nigerians ,the same way we do with car citizens and Chadians and the same way we are doing with Nigerians . Anyone dreaming about funding groups to remove Biya or any other president simply does not love himself and his brethren... you might twist it the way you want but bakassi is very fresh reminder of what will happen again should Nigeria try to grab anything from us talk less about funding terrorism on our soil ,not only we will outflank your obsolete army but we will dine in Lagos and Abuja in less than 2weeks while sending. Buhari to Yaoundé in a cage with chains around his neck and ankles

I hope so too. There are technology that needs clearance from countries before one can integrate into an airplane. It took a little while for Russia to clear us to acquire the engine to be fitted on the JF17. Engines have been delivered to Pakistan. Sometimes it's not about money but sharing sensitive technologies.
For sure you are in the NAF ....
