Everything seems so organize and most people behave like humans but I do miss some of the actions in naija environment (A conductor dragging you to enter his bus, people fighting for no reason, people pushing their ideas in hot debate when they can't back it up with proof ) that makes me laugh.
EBK2: This is very funny. I will like to see a conductor drag someone (not me o) to his bus.
About people pushing their ideas in hot debate when they can't back it up with proof, lots of it on NL. lol
I can't forget one event that always make me laugh while still in naija. I was standing by the road side with my friend. A guy with his girlfriend was arguing over the guy being unfaithful. She told the guy she wants to end their relationship. While still on it (the guy was apologizing with some hand gesture), another guy who was passing-by mistakenly push the guy by the side while he was making way for an okada rider overtaking a moving car.

The guy that was apologizing to his girlfriend rushed the guy that pushed him and gave him a dirty slap (transfer of aggression), ... meeeeeem, see fight.

I miss these kind of open shows in naija. Everything here is on stage (acting) but in naija you will see it life and direct without paying for ticket

There is no where in the world that a fixed minimum price for web design exist so Nigeria is no exception. I agree with Dual Core - A student who is try to get a web project during ASUU strike to see if he / she can raise a little money will never care about a fixed price. Moreover, many beginners without portfolio who can't compete with established web design companies in Nigeria on a fixed price can charge any amount to first build up a portfolio

Programming › Re: Problem With Bufferedinputstream Read Blocking Issue In Java by nollyj(op): 11:16am On Oct 16, 2013
BetaQuick: Instead you must know how many bytes to read from the Socket's InputStream. This can be done by either the server telling how many bytes it is sending, or by looking for a special end-of-data character.
Thanks once again. If you look at my first post, using this method call gets the amount of bytes the server is excepting from the client.

int bSize = clientSocket.getReceiveBufferSize(); This returns 8192 when you print out bSize;

Since the client is send less than 8192 bytes, the BufferedInputStream read action keep waiting (Blocking) for the client to complete this amount.

1. I observed that when I close the connection it automatically flushes out the stream but I am using the connection for multiple read so it will be open until I choose to close it.

2. That is why I mentioned that I used timeout socket method since I know that the client have finish reading the bytes from server irrespective of the fact that it still waits for more bytes that the client does not have.

I think I have to try JAVA NIO in Java 7 API since it has non-blocking read functionality.

Thanks for your help
Programming › Re: Problem With Bufferedinputstream Read Blocking Issue In Java by nollyj(op): 9:01am On Oct 16, 2013
BetaQuick: You are trying to read greater than whats in the buffered input stream.

Why dont you try a bytearrayoutputstream. See below

// output bucket to read data
ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
// read the response data
InputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(conn.getInputStream());

int read = 0; byte[] data = new byte[1024];
while((read = in.read(data)) > 0) {
os.write(data, 0, read);
}

// Your data is now in the ByteArrayOutputStream for reading
Thanks, but it still gives the same problem since the blocking occurs here in.read(data)
Programming › Problem With Bufferedinputstream Read Blocking Issue In Java by nollyj(op): 10:49pm On Oct 15, 2013
I wrote a client server application that list all the files in the server and can download any file in the server with a command. Everything seems to be working well but I am having a problem with downloading files to the client due to read blocking.

Problem case

When the client request to download a file in the server, the server send the content of the file in bytes.
The client will start to read the received byte into a buffer and the size of the buffer is 8192 which I got from int bSize = clientSocket.getReceiveBufferSize();

Since the buffer size from the server is less than that of client, the client blocks after reading the bytes from the server since it is still waiting for more and the server has less.

Server Code
private static void DownloadFileFromServer(BufferedInputStream bis, String filePath){

try {
stream = new FileOutputStream(pathtoClientDirectory + filePath);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e1) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e1.printStackTrace();
}

try {
int bSize = clientSocket.getReceiveBufferSize();
int nRead;
byte[] data = new byte[bSize];

try {
while ((nRead = bis.read(data, 0, data.length)) != -1) {
stream.write(data, 0, nRead);

try {
clientSocket.setSoTimeout(100);
} catch (SocketException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
} catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}

} catch (SocketException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
}

}

Server Code

private static void sendFileToClient(String filename){

try{
File myFile = new File(pathtofileDirectory + filename);

byte[] mybytearray = new byte[(int) myFile.length()];

System.out.println("Length of file to read" + mybytearray.length);

FileInputStream ips = new FileInputStream(myFile);
BufferedInputStream biss = new BufferedInputStream(ips);
int nRead;

while ((nRead = biss.read(mybytearray, 0, mybytearray.length)) != -1) {

buffersp.write(mybytearray, 0, nRead);
buffersp.flush();
}
biss.close();
//buffersp.close();

}catch(IOException ex){
System.out.println(ex.getMessage());
}

I have used the socket setTimeout which works but it always throws Java socket exception. I have also tried using separate thread for each server connection but it did not know for me. I need suggestion or point on how best to solve this.

Thanks

Programming › Re: Help On Login Code For Php N How To Store On Data Base. by nollyj: 11:16am On Oct 12, 2013
I wrote this code now based on your request. Please not that it is not tested but if you run into problem just paste it here. I will try as much as possible to help.

I made two simple classes in Php. One is for database connection and the other to query database.

<?php
include_once 'blog/config.php';

class DbConnect{

private $connect;

public function __construct(){

$this->connect = mysqli_connect(DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_NAME);

if (mysqli_connect_errno($this->connect))
{
echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}
}

public function getDb(){

return $this->connect;
}

}

?>

Second Class to query database user table

<?php

include_once 'db.php';

class DatabaseLayer{

private $tables;

public function __constructor(){

$this->tables = "User_table";
}

public function createAccount($username, $password, $email){

// database clase
$com = new DbConnect();

$notiify = "";

// filter inputs
$username = filter_var($username, FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING);
$password = filter_var($password, FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING);
$email = filter_var($email, FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL);

$error_array = array();

// check varliable after sanitazation
if(!$username){
$error_array[] = "Invalid Username";
}

if(!$password){
$error_array[] = "Invalid Password";
}

if(!$email){
$error_array[] = "Invalid Email";
}

// check if username or email has been used by another user
$is_used = $this->checkEmailUsernameExist($username, $email);

if(!$is_used){

$error_array[] = "Username and or email address has been taken. Please change to a new one";
}

if(!is_null($error_array)){

// encrypt your password with whatever method you like . I use md5 without salt

$password = md5($password);

// insert into the user table
$sql = "INSERT INTO " . $this->tables . " (username, password, email) VALUES ( '$username', '$password', '$email')";

$inserted = mysqli_query($com->getDb(), $sql);

if($inserted == 1){

$notiify = "Your Registration is successful";
}
else{

$notiify = "Your Registration failed. Please contact the admin";
}
}
else{

//check number of errors
$error_size = count($error_array);

for($i = 0; $i < $error_size; $i++){

$notiify .= $error_size[$i] . "\n";
}
}

// close database connection
if(!is_null($com)){

mysqli_close($com->getDb());
}

return $notiify;
}

// check if username or password has been used before
private function checkEmailUsernameExist($username, $email){

$com = new DbConnect();

$is_email_username_exist = false;

$sql = "SELECT * FROM " . $this->tables . " where username = '$username' OR password = '$password";
$result = mysqli_query($com->getDb(), $sql);

if(mysqli_num_rows($result) > 0){

$is_email_username_exist = true;
}

// close database connection
if(!is_null($com)){

mysqli_close($com->getDb());
}

return $is_email_username_exist;
}

?>

How to use this code.

1. Create your user_table in your database with fields username, password, email and others

2. Add your database connection details in a config.php file as a Constants using the following constant names - DB_HOST, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_NAME

3 When a user submit the registration form. Then get the values in the post or get array variable like this

if(isset($_POST['submit'])){

$username = $_POST['username'];
$password = $_POST['password'];
$email = $_POST['email'];

// include the com.php file
include_once 'com.php'

// create an object of the DatabaseLayer class
$db_layer = new DatabaseLayer();

// call the create new user method

$db_layer->createAccount($username, $password, $email)
}

Please see if you can understand the code and try to fix any error before asking more questions. It will help in your learning process.

What I have observed in less than one month is that if you want many downloads don't focus your app to Nigerian users. Make it universal. Out of 342 total installs in my apps, Nigerian users account for only 5.

I have also taken time to exam other apps in Google play that focus on Nigeria, many of them still have little download counts. I might not be right but this is the trend I found so far.

I have almost done with my app and this is what the app is all about.

Call Flasher

1. Flash any number automatically. You don't have to worry about your call credit anytime you flash a number.
2. Access and filter phone numbers from from phone records
3. Add and flash a number that is not in your call record
4. Queue phone numbers you wish to call in the future with a timer
5. Automatically hide your caller Id during flashing
