Programming › Re: How Much Do You Earn As A Developer Per Month? by nollyj: 1:27pm On Jul 13, 2013
I think you guys should give more information about how long it takes you before you start making this amount so that those planning to enter into this profession will understand that just learning web design and/or programming for two weeks or a month is not enough to get the skills that will earn you such amount listed above

I think he forgot that most website posted on the webmasters section are thoroughly review behind the scene by many webmasters here.

Chromedome
You can call me whatever name your like but it does not take away the fact that the first link you posted was a scam link.
Webmasters › Re: MTN Appstore Developer Forum by nollyj: 5:23pm On Jul 12, 2013
Don't let me think you are up for something I can see a big difference between the two websites
Chromedome: That’s the correct link to register your details please. I just accessed it. If you are not getting a correspondence, simply go to www.mtnonline.com, click on their products and service, the app world, scroll down and there you have your link to register...no brainer

The link you posted is for available apps, what i sent is for developers to register and upload their apps on the forum, thanks.

Are you sure that the link you provided is the original link to MTN app store?

What about this link http://nextapps.mtnonline.com/

Your workflow will work in many situations. But when you have a different media query that targets individual device, the only thing you can test across devices are things that they all share in common.
Webmasters › Re: My Simple Portfolio Website Review by nollyj(op): 9:46am On Jul 06, 2013
@yawa
Yeah, that is the true picture. I usually develop from bigger screen down to small screen though many do the inverse. Once I finish with the desktop I always like to get some input. I will incorporate it along porting the site to smaller screen. Yeah I think someone in a different thread declared Graphicsplus as a Responsive Evangelist - which is good because he has made many webmasters here to think also about low end devices during website development
Webmasters › Re: My Simple Portfolio Website Review by nollyj(op): 7:09pm On Jul 05, 2013
Thanks
GraphicsPlus: The three background images are a no no to me. The first picture of a reflected lady trying to k!ss herself will fit a fashion designer's or photographer's website, not a web developer.
. You are right but sometimes I don't always like to follow conventions in design.

I do not think 'Pricing' page is necessary. It's usually suitable for web hosting companies and companies that offer digital products and software.
I have a reason while I added a price page.

Well done.
Webmasters › Re: My Simple Portfolio Website Review by nollyj(op): 7:02pm On Jul 05, 2013
Thanks for your review. As I said on my post that I am currently working on the responsive aspect so that it will fit well on mobile phones. I agree with you about the image (mobile-app dev,et.c) not being so sharp. I have change it with icon font in my dev version.
curiouslad: if its going to be responsive then your sidebar has to somehow vanish angry angry
when i'm on mobile and have to scroll over 250-300px averytime i navigate on your page

You could find cleaner cliparts for your icons on the homepage (mobile-app dev,et.c)

looks great other than that
cheers

Thanks, just like I said I am currently working on the responsive aspect so that it will fit well in mobile

Webmasters › Am I alone on this : Advertise With Us by nollyj(op):
I have seen many websites in the webmasters section that were put up for review. There is also a column or more that reads

Advertise with us
Place your advert here
Google Advert
Reach your customers by advertising with us
and many more.

Many of these websites are not visited by up to 5 visitors including bots in a day and they are looking for advertiser that will pay money to advertise.

I think advert should come when the website has grown and has a certain amount of visitors every day.

is it that most of these websites are created because of ad revenue? that has always been my thinking. What do you think about this.
Webmasters › Re: I Need Constructive Criticism- THREAD CLOSED by nollyj: 12:52pm On Jul 04, 2013
Well good job but these are what I think you can improve on

Logo : I think the logo does not look professional and it does not bring out the beauty of your business brand. I will suggest you spend a little money and look for a graphics designer that can do a nice looking logo for you.

Site Loading : I found out the site was built with flash. It takes so much time to download on my side. I check my connection and it was perfectly ok. You should try and optimize some of the flash files you have in your application.

Note so important but I think the top navigation drop down speed is too high.

Social icons : it will be much better if they all have transparent background

Top most content slider is not clickable. Since it contains catching information users might actually when to read more.

The mens health navigation region might look much better without the underline text decoration

Some of the container border colors do not blend well with the layout background colors

You can give some margin to the images under online clinics and services

ok, I have to stop here and let others chip in
Webmasters › Re: Help Me Check This. by nollyj: 8:57pm On Jul 02, 2013
I am talking about the default position of the logo. I know that when you scroll down it will get to the top and fix itself there. I just think the default position is a bit low.

It could have been better if only the navigation is there
Webmasters › Re: Help Me Check This. by nollyj: 8:51pm On Jul 02, 2013
@GraphicsPlus, I think I said personally in my previous comment because when I look at that color for a few seconds my eyes can't focus anymore. May be it is a problem with my eyes.

Why is the featured banner above the logo? It think it will make more sense to leave the logo at the top then you can leave your navigation bar where users can easily spot it.
Webmasters › Re: Help Me Check This. by nollyj: 5:00pm On Jul 02, 2013
Nice job

But almost all your works look alike

The top most color in the head region reflects so much in my eyes
The reason 5 thumb-up icon does not have a smooth outline

Personally I think the site is over colorful (it might not be the same with many people)

Good job
Celebrities › Are Hot Bikini Body Photos Translate To A Model / Aspiring Model / Video Vixen by nollyj(op): 1:24am On Jun 29, 2013
What I don't get these days with our entertainment and celeb bloggers in Nigeria is that whenever I see a post with a photo of a hot bikini girl the content of the post must likely said that the girl in the photo is a model or aspiring model or actress or video vixen. Is it only these people that take photos with hot bikini?

Webmasters › My 2 Free Opencart Module / Extension - Free To Use by nollyj(op): 11:07pm On Jun 26, 2013
I developed these two simple OpenCart modules/extensions for a little eCommerce site I am working on.

The first one is category listing above the footer block in web shops with many contents and long horizontal scroll.

The second one is product in category module that display top level categories with a product. When click on the name of the category or product photo, it takes you to that particular category.

If you need to use it or modify it to suit your project requirement, just let me know

The screen shots are shown below.

Webmasters › Re: Car Dealership Website Review On A Scale Of 1 To 10 by nollyj(op): 10:16pm On Jun 22, 2013
^^ There are stuffs that are no longer as important as they use to be. Using them might not add much from the overall aim. But does not harm to use them.

I also think that since there are many industries / business sectors, a feature that works well in one area might not produce the same result in a different area.
Webmasters › Re: Car Dealership Website Review On A Scale Of 1 To 10 by nollyj(op): 12:14pm On Jun 22, 2013
Since most people do not base their decision to buy product most often on clients testimonies so why should the position of testimonies be of important in website layout?
Webmasters › Re: Car Dealership Website Review On A Scale Of 1 To 10 by nollyj(op): 5:35pm On Jun 21, 2013
Site is real simple and responsive. Very Good.

The only things I would change:
- Large header image at the top - Make the height half of what it is now. This will bring the content up to the top
- Maroon header above header image: I think you could do better than that
- Testimonials: This is why I will buy a car from you. Bring it to the top to make it more visible
- Why aren't the car thumbnails clickable?

Good job!
Maroon header above header image: I think you could do better than that
I am not sure if I understood what you meant.

Why aren't the car thumbnails clickable?
The cars in each section represents a category image not the actual product that is why I did not use a thumbnail images

Thanks so much
Webmasters › Re: Car Dealership Website Review On A Scale Of 1 To 10 by nollyj(op): 5:30pm On Jun 21, 2013
@GraphicsPlus, I have implemented some of the changes you suggested

Thanks, I replaced my box-shadow css with the one you provided below and it looks better.
I have added a modal form in Get-in-Touch button so it is not directly linked to the contact page now.
I have also change the footer link to white color to create more contrast.

I am not sure if there will be much difference in removing the background of the car images so I decided to leave it as it is.

Thanks and you can still check it out

GraphicsPlus and Brand_new, Thanks so much for your suggestions. I think we are all here to learn from each other. Getting to know how other people view things is important to our industry. In as much as you might not implement all the suggestions and recommendations from a review, you will definitely see your work in the eyes of others and get to understand what they think about it. So let us try and respect individual opinion.

Before you start Note: this is a personal website. Do not check if it is responsive because I am working on it now so it can be best view on a desktop or laptop. I used Zurb Foundation 4.

I was inspired by this topic here on Nairaland https://www.nairaland.com/1146642/powerful-photos-tell-story. So I decided to make a personal website around it

Now over to you guys and thanks for your time
