Yes, but Nigeria has reduced it's importation over the years. We have almost stopped importation of food products like Rice, Fruit juices, Canned tomatoes e.t.c. By next year, we would start exporting rice.
So this is why we have been able to come out of recession. The local manufacturing industry is growing gradually.

Do you know that the whites with 10% of the population still control 80% of the wealth of the country? The 40 million blacks of SA are worth just about $70 billion just like Kenya. The only thing they have to enjoy over Kenya is infrastructure which the whites built.
That's why when you go to Capetown with the best infrastructure, the blacks are just 10% in the city (a minority). You mostly find them in their villages, Bantusans and Jozi slums.
Instead of them to face their white masters, they prefer to face other Africans in their midst.

Don't know what oil production has to do with anything either. For one, we didn't deny your rights to utilize any God-given resources you have. Secondly, Oil if anything has been a curse to us. Our agricultural and industrial base was gutted as we stupidly tried to run a large country with a large population with less oil money than tiny Qatar or UAE.

Seriously, i hate oil and feel like cursing the day it was discovered. Jos my city of origin (over 1million people) today was built from the scratch due to the Tin and columbite industry which was Nigeria's largest mineral export and 4th largest commodity export during colonial period.
Nigeria was among the largest world exporters of Hides & skin, Groundnut, Oil palm, Cocoa, Rubber and many more commodities. We were building our regions without oil. Oil came and many lazy.

However, thank God for the agircultural and industrial revolution that is now sweeping across Nigeria, since oil price fell. You can imagine that even with the lower oil price, we have come out of recession.
If we continue with the agricultural and industrial revolution, there is no telling where we'll be in a decade from now. We will be at same level with countries like Brazil.

See what the lowest income areas of Lagos (Nigerian cities on average) look like (which ignorant people like you call slums).

Look well, you can see that some of them can even afford Satelite televison and Air conditioners. You can see the tarred roads at their doorsteps. They all have toilet facilities and live in concrete built houses with some form of sanitation.
Nigerians don't live in full blown slums. It is not our culture and the govts will never allow it. That is why Makoko people had to build theirs on water and Makoko was originally a small fishing community of few fishermen and never started as a slum!

Lagos an urban area of 21 million and there is only 1 full blown slum (Makoko), making less than 1% of people in the city. The slum is even half demolished. That is very great for a developing nation. Even Brazil (Rio de janeiro) with half of Lagos' population has the world's most renowned slum, the same thing with Mumbai (India's largest city).

For instance, i would easily admit and applaud the fact that South Africa dominates the entire continent in satelite television (DStv) which has given birth to many other ventures like Africa Magic (which now hosts the biggest movie awards in Africa), Big brother reality TV show (the most watched reality TV in Africa) and many more.

If it is Kenyans and SAns, many of them would rather die than accept the fact that Nigeria dominates the Entertainment, Fashion, Religious, Banking and Financial industries of Africa.

Look at internet pictures of Mushin and Agege which ignorant people classify as slums. These places are just low income areas. They are not full blown slums like Kibera or Mathare in Nairobi (that attract world NGOs and humanitarian aids).
In Mushin and Agege, people (not the govt) build modern appartments and storey building houses with toilet facilities and running tap water. They are not full blown slums. Makoko is the only full blown slum that ever existed in Nigeria.

Nairobi is a greater developed city than any Nigerian city. I think that is a fact. It's more beautiful and a greater tourist destination. Nigeria's GDP per capita though (both nominal and purchasing power parity) is roughly double Kenya's. That's also a fact which might suggest Kenya is not ahead of us. Though I suspect there's far greater income inequality in Nigeria than Kenya as exists in many countries dependent on petro-dollars.

Though why anyone would be looking to beat their chest over a slight superiority over the other is beyond me. Nigeria has different movie Sub- industries in one country just like India that has Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and many more sub- industries in one.
You cannot use Tamil movies to judge Hindi movies, that would be ignorance on your own path.

In Nigeria, we have the Epic movie sub industry, the urban movie sub industry, the yoruba, hausa, igbo and many other language sub industries.

Today's Nollywood films are produced with high budget and are shown in the Cinemas and not on African Magic. That is why you only see unknown Nigerian Actors on African Magic nowadays. I think you guys should know something; Nigeria does not have the White man influence that many East Africans and South African countries have. The Whites did not settle in our country and they did not give us any institution of note. So whatever we did we had to start from scratch and learn the basics unlike you guys who built practically on what the whites left for you. So u didn't start from the basics.
We started something like Nollywood from the ground up as we did not have a whiteman's industry to build upon unlike you guys whose industry was built by the Whites.

Our Music Industry is one of Africa's only true indigenous industries. We have developed our own flows and beats which is even becoming more indigenous with the coming of flavour,Phyno,Simi,Adekunle Gold a co. Whenever I hear SA music like AKA I weep for African heritage as I don't know whether he is talking of an American or South African heritage.

I know Nigeria still has a lot of work to do, but sometimes i look at the progress we have made and still making and i hold my head up high. Southern Africa countries had the whites while East African countries had the Indians who set their foundation for them for development.
We Nigerians on the other hand started building our country from the scratch! The british looted us and gave us a large country with nothing to hold on to.

The other Nigerian States cannot meet up to Lagos unless the Nigerian government build a seaport in the other sea based states or it gives the states the power to build and control their own seaports. Lagos is the way it is for many reasons with the seaport factor being key.

AKwa Ibom, Cross river and Rivers state govts are planning on building their own sea ports (haven't u heard). They will control it themselves since they built it themselves.

Bantus are recognised as the largest African subgroup on the continent. Whether I go to the Zulus of South Africa or to the Azande of South Sudan,we use the word mtu to mean a person(and apparently the word goat in Zulu and Swahili is the same too.Mbuzi)
Swahili is spoken by 200 million people in East Africa alone!! That is Kenya, Uganda,Rwanda,Burundi,South Sudan and Tanzania. It is the official language of all three nations and has also been adopted by Rwanda,Burundi and South Sudan.Luganda is NOT an official language of Uganda.It never has been.It is indeed widely spoken in Southern and Eastern Uganda but go to the North and West. It is absent.Swahili on the other hand is present in every corner of Uganda.
The 200 million people you mention, do not include the Eastern DRC who also speak Kiswahili(Joseph Kabila feels quite at home in any part of East Africa.It is also why Congolese refugees face little hostility across the region), Malawi, where there are Swahilis,Mozambique, Comoros and Part of Zambia.

Cameroon is not up to 80% Bantu, stop telling lies. The Cameroon highlanders are the largest ethnic subgroup, the fulanis are the 3rd, while the Kirdis are the 4th largest. The Bantus are the 2nd and 5th largest groups (making up only about 30% of the population). I will attach the screenshot below.
Somalia is over 95% ethnic somali, the bantus are extremely small.

80% of South Africa is about 40 million
DRC and Congo republic together about 90 million (i am being generous here)
2/3 of Kenya and Uganda about 55 million people
Tanzania about 50 million
imbabwe 12 million
Botswana and Namibia 4 million
Angola and Mozambique 50 million
Zambia and Malawi 35 million
Gabon and Equatorial Guinea 4 million
Swaziland and Lesotho 4 million

Yes, Bantu may be the largest Black African sub-group, but you guys have no sense of brotherhood whatsoever, but we Ecowas have an official union.
Most Bantu people have never heard of the world Bantu or know what it means, but every west African child is taught and made to know that he is a member of ECOWAS from his/her primary school. So, we are still the strongest union in Africa.
