Proeast2: If not for 1914 amalgamation, Southern Nigeria would have been as developed as South Africa. We were yoked together with savages and since then we have known no peace, no progress and no real development. I keep saying it, we will never develop as a people until we cut off these savages.
Igbos have since realized the problem and are fighting to cut it off but instead of our fellow Southerners, especially the Yorubas to smell the coffee and team up with us to save our present and future generations, they keep allowing the same enemy to be instigating them against Igbos.
Since history, I have never heard of any serious clash between Igbos and Yorubas in Lagos or anywhere in the SW despite our large numbers there and neither have we clashed with them in the East or Abuja or anywhere at that. However, check history and see so many clashes between them and Hausas or even between Igbos and Hausas, now the question is, why is the Hausas always fighting everyone? You should have also added the numerous clashes Hausas have had with Middlebelt tribes in Kaduna, Jos, Abuja, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi e.t.c. |

JoeEeL: They will eventually bro. Nonconformists spread throughout Kaduna have been oppressed that most have kept fleeing and fleeing to Southern Kaduna. The governor systematically keeps quiet. The ethnic cleansing in Kaduna is almost complete. I forecast 10-20years. Plateau has undergone their own unfortunate cleansing too. Many towns have been renamed to Islam names. Kwara too is as good as gone. A caliphate system was installed there due to the silliness and naivete of the Yorubas there. Many of the Yorubas there share the same unfortunate religion of these unfortunate terrorists. Also remember theyre currently working on Benue state. People keep fleeing to the south thus making these marauders keep making inroads. The fulani herdsmen are now in SouthWest and the East and ure still doubting the possibility? Haha. Don't o, bredda.
And it's the same even in south west too. There are some siding with Buhari and Tinubu largely because theyre muslims? They may hate the current condition of the country but theyre still sympathetic. Also factor in that these Islamic and Fulani guys breed a lot. Their population growth compared to ours does not move parallel. They keep reproducing almost at a rate times 2. In 200 years time, the gap will be too wide that we will become a minority.
Also remember they control the military, police, army, navy and airforce. It's by design bro. Many of southerners also travel out a lot, further reducing our growth rate while the Fulanis are largely illiterates and stay put. Any little war or issue like secession, then they'd find excuse to further decimate the South.
Let's be guided o. That's why I keep saying 'Southerners, Ronu o'.
If you see the map, what does it tell you? You'll realise they just can't stop halfway. There's a mission, braa. It is systematic. Or are u trying to tell me all those Northern countries all began with Islam? Of course not na. They would have kept downplaying the possibility just like you are today. And all of a sudden, everyone has to be a muslim or to save your life pretend to be one. The most liberal of them would let you be but speak against Islam and you're beheaded. Na xo o guy. I somehow like this submission, but Oga, nothing like Plateau & Southern KADUNA being completely captured by Fulanis. There are entire LGAs in Plateau, Southern KADUNA and even Bauchi state without muslims or any mosque whatsoever. Although I agree, Middlebelt tribes really need to wake up from sleep. Besides, that your map below is a bit wrong. Taraba state was coloured with Islam, a state that has never had a muslim governor? How possible? Likewise Taraba and even Adamawa & parts of Gombe, Christianity is still the dominant religion there. |

But by now, any Hausa' fulani that still thinks a civil war in Nigeria will be against Southerners with they and Middlebelt people on one side must be a lunatic dreamer.
Any civil war happening in Nigeria this time around will take place at the intersection between Hausa' fulani Kanuri land (core-north) and Middlebelt tribes. KADUNA city/Zaria, Niger north & Kebbi south, Bauchi south/Bauchi city, Gombe south/Gombe city, Borno south and few parts of Adamawa would be the battleground! They won't even stand a chance in Jos, Nasarawa, Abuja or Taraba when a full blown war arrives. They should wait and see. |

I didn't know there were indigenous Hausas in KD central. Good you clarified on this. Kurama christians have been a very weak link abeg. They and the Koros of Kagarko LGA are the weakest link in Southern KADUNA, that's why you find the highest number of Hausa' settlements/population in Kagarko, Lere & Pambeguwa even though these places are not Hausa' land. The Indigenes of this place hardly fight for their rights like other southern KADUNA Indigenes. Giwa is the only Indigenous Hausa' LGA in KADUNA central, then Northern parts of Igabi LGA. Birnin Gwari is not Hausa' land originally, but most of the Gbagyis there became Muslims just before the colonial era and now they have been Hausanized. Though there are still lots of Gbagyi & Kamuku Christians in the south of Birnin Gwari LGA. |

Yujin: Most southerners on nairaland don't know the difference between Kaduna South LGA and Southern Kaduna geopolitical designation. Let me try and make it clear to them. Kaduna state has 3 senatorial zones namely Northern Kaduna, Central Kaduna and Southern Kaduna. The Northern Kaduna senatorial zones is made up of basically Hausa/fulanis with few small ethnic groups who are mostly muslims thus giving the zone a whole homogenous muslim identity. This is where Zaria is found. Central Kaduna is made up mostly small ethnic groups divided between Christians and muslims and Hausas are not traditionally part of this zone but today they have a sizeable population there. This is where Kaduna city is found and it's instrumental that this city has no traditional king or Emir because of the reasons I stated earlier. Kaduna city is made up mostly three LGAs namely Kaduna north, Kaduna south and Chikun LGAs. After numerous religiopolitical crisis, the city has been divided/realigned into having religion based settlements. KDNorth is almost entirely Muslim, KDSouth is mixed with obvious delineations while Chikun is almost wholly Christians. Southern Kaduna is made up of entirely small ethnic groups and is mostly Christians. It's headquarters is Kafanchan. Now southern Kaduna as mostly used in politics comprises of all the small ethnic groups in both central and southern zones and one easiest way to identify them is the shared faith of Christianity. According to the 2006 census, this group had the biggest population in the whole state. This is what El-Rufai wants to change by all means by importing militias termed herdsmen to kill the people on one hand and on the other, kill off their traditional kings/chiefs and forcefully create Emirates for them by dividing and putting them under the new emirates he created. So this protest was done by Southern Kaduna people inside Kaduna city along the areas they dominate which is their own part of kaduna South LGA and moving towards Sabo(Sabon Tasha) in Chikun LGA. Great analysis. Anyway, let me correct you on somethings cos you are a brother who deserves to know the truth. There is the natural & political division of Northern, Central & Southern Kaduna. The explanation you just gave fits the natural description and not the political one. Take for example, Lere, Kauru & Kajuru LGAs are exactly on the same latitude, touching side by side along their lengths, however, in terms of political classification, Lere LGA is in KADUNA north senatorial district, Kauru LGA which is directly next to it is in KADUNA south senatorial district while Kajuru LGA which is directly next to Kauru LGA is in KADUNA central senatorial district. In reality, these 3 LGAs are geographically in KADUNA central and are Christian dominated, but they were all manipulated in order to give Hausa' fulanis the majority in KADUNA central senatorial district, so that they can produce 2 senators. KADUNA central senatorial district is currently slightly Muslim majority or 50/50 because LGAs like Giwa & Birnin gwari which share boundary with Katsina and Zamfara states were dragged into KADUNA central while the original Christian dominated LGAs like Lere & Kauru which are centrally located were taken to the north & south. Therefore KADUNA north senatorial district has Lere LGA which is originally dominated by Kurama, Amo, Gure/Kahugu and Piti Christians. Kubau LGA is also in KADUNA north senatorial district, but there are dozens of Christian Kurama villages there. Infact, Pambeguwa town (the biggest town in that LGA) belongs to Kurama Christians, but sadly Hausa' fulanis have dominated it, however all the villages and smaller towns surrounding Pambeguwa in Kubau LGA are Christian dominated. These Kurama Christian settlements spread into Kano state and dominate half of Doguwa LGA in Kano state! Also, there are hundreds of thousands of Indigenous Hausa' Christians in KADUNA north senatorial district. Infact, they are up to 20-25% there. But it's so unfortunate that most of us never knew about this until recently, even many Southern KADUNA Christians never knew. Ikara LGA for example is Hausa' land, but half of the population there are Indigenous Christians! In Giwa, Makarfi, Kudan, Kubau, Zaria, Sabongari, Igabi, Soba LGAs, there are dozens upon dozens of Christian indigenous villages. Both Christian Hausas & Christian tribes. These Hausa' Indigenous Christians are between 3-4 million, concentrated in Northern KADUNA, Southern Kano & Southern Katsina. They have at least 50% of the population in like 15 LGAs in these places. The problem is that these people have been mentally enslaved to accept themselves as perpetual 3rd class citizens in their own land. They are not even allowed to build churches in the LG headquarters, hence they are stuck in their rural villages. So, in reality, KADUNA north senatorial district is not up to 80% Muslim, it's like 70-75 Muslim. KADUNA central is like 50-50 or slightly Muslim majority. While KADUNA south is like 90% Christian. There are Indigenous southern KADUNA Muslims but the number of Indigenous Hausa' Christians is far far higher than the number of Indigenous Southern KADUNA Muslims. Most of the muslims in Southern KADUNA are Hausa' settlers and not Indigenes. It is only in Sanga LGA of Southern KADUNA where the current deputy governor comes from that most of the muslims there are Indigenes. However, in Northern KADUNA, most of the christians there are Indigenes. And just for the records, there are no minority Muslim tribes in Northern KADUNA. Only one small tribe called KITIMI found around Kauru/Saminaka northern parts are entirely Muslims. The other Muslim dominated tribe AYU which is very small, is found deep into southern KADUNA (Sanga LGA). Bakobenjamin198, gbagyiza |

LukasPodolski: the famous shongai scholar, Ahmed Baba Timbuktu in his work gave the Oyo empire "yarba" which literally means "Oyo is king" .....
Bishop Ajayi Crowther when he returned back to Nigeria, in is research found the name Yarba and changed it back to Yoruba..
I also learned that the same Ahmed Baba Timbuktu gave Hausas their name "Hausa" which he translated to "west bank".
"Yoruba" was existing before Hausa/fulani changed it to Yoruba, the Reason been that the Oyo empire(Yoruba as at that time) always try to outclass them during trading.... they felt the Yorubas always try to play smart..
Yoruba doesn't have any meaning in Hausa/ Okay, pls do you have any source or document or reference to buttress this? Hausa as the name of the 'Hausa ethnic group' are in so so many documents from Europeans, Arabs, Berbers, Kanem-Bornu, Mali e.t.c since many centuries now, unlike 'Yoruba' that nobody heard of it earlier than the 18th century. Heck, even Oyo people do not address or identify themselves as YORUBAS in their ancient parables or names of settlements. |

Yoruba slaves who were taken to the Americas from the 15th-18th century, never at any point in time mentioned that name, nor are there remnants of that name anywhere. I think to a large extent, this goes back to many historical antecedents and the culture of the people. Do you know that both India & China were once the largest and richest economies of the world in different times in the past? These people have had powerful centralized civilizations that have united much of their people for thousands of years. We Black Africans in particular have never such centralized civilizations. The Ijaws and other coastal tribes imbibed these silly Western names from the slavetrade era beginning in the 16th century, long before anything like colonialism or missionary arrival. Guide777: When shortsighted slaves are willing to do anything to remain yoked to their masters chain, they will willingly forfeit their birth right, custom and cultural heritages, everything including the future of generations unborn. It's not just people from Ijaw, and Efik ethnic stock that fell victim etc but it cuts across all part of Nigeria and Africa. Europeans and Arabs couldn't have succeeded in enslaving us through various guises such as Colonialism and Neo Colonialism if Africa have resisted by rejecting their religions, culture and thoughts. Look at China and India, two nations which fell into foreign influence as Africa but they have made a difference by resistance to assimilate outside culture and religion.. Look how far they have gone. But look at African nations that their citizens had gave up their language and changed their family names to christianized and islamized names and see where they are now. The Ancient Igbos said, Nku di N'mba na-"eghere Mba Nri. Meaning: the firewoods available in any village is capable of cooking the food in that village. Africa should return to her roots and use what it has to get what it want.
Africa should return to its religion, it's economy, its sociology, its technology, its medicine, its Education and in fact all its heritage. That is where the redemption lies. All what we think Africa gained from all its various invaders such as Europeans and Arabs who stole its resources are the same thing a rat gained by eating the bait on a trap before it clamp on it. This is my opinion. Lovely piece from you. However, just for the records, India & China were not completely free from the influence of the White & Arab Invaders. Today there are over 500 million muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka e.t.c, many of whom have completely lost and even resent their Hindu/Buddhist origins, roots and past. This was what lead to the division of India. English is now a very big threat to the native languages of India. However I agree that India did better than Africa. Especially as the Hindus still retained their native names and to a large extent retained their traditional attires. Chinese people on the other hand have abandoned their traditional attires completely in favour of Western clothes. We are partially better than them in this aspect. They did better than us in retaining and repackaging their Chinese traditional medicine and the language. Lots of them also bear English names too, though not as bad as Africa. |

When I served and taught law, Generals and Colonels came who have been lawyers for years came to my class just to hear me teach. Some brought me very close because of my knowledge. My boss, an Army General told me that he went through the same trials of Academic failure during his schooling but he still chose to follow the academic part and his brilliance has taken him this far. I there and then decided to revive my intellectual pursuits. I have seen your write ups on this site and they denote a brilliant mind. I will most likely do that in the Arts (History & Entertainment), my newlyfound love and passion. |
