NSEstudent:So, tonight, even switching to 3G only is exactly unhelpful. |
Osyxcel:Makes sense. I have never seen it positive though. |
bbally:You're talking smart app or the ODU web interface, which appears to be what's shown on the image you posted? The password to this is written at the back of the ODU. |
Osyxcel:Yea, but the SINR value, which is quite crucial, is good enough. I get mostly 3 signal bars and sometimes max of 4 bars on that band. Bands 3 and 8, which always have full bars with lower RSSI and RSRP values (lower is better for these), have lower SINR values. Higher is better for SINR, a crucial metric. Band 7 is always faster than all of them, even when the network is having its customary issues. |
Peterlove11:This is the Band 7
|
Peterlove11:I will do that in the evening/night when I get home. |
Peterlove11:I see only one, and I have monitored it. The new band 1 (250) has 271, 255, and 1 more. I may be wrong about these figures though, as I have not written them down. My problem with it is that the signal is very very poor in my location. I was able to use the Install Helper app for the ZTE ODU to get 'Medium' signal with quality rating of between 18 to 23 for the band 7. During the day, it's fast and reliable, but not so much during the night. The bands 3 and 8 are readily and fully available but are below par in performance, most times. |
Peterlove11:Is there any cell other than 491 on this band 7? I have noticed what someone said here is true. All bands perform abysmally at night. Maybe it's my location but that's irritating and totally frustrating. Interestingly, switching the router to 3G only, although reading very low on speed tests, appears to at least be usable for streams. |

Burgerstv23:You no need am |
frank155:The ODU and IDU do different things and thus should have different interfaces. Except if ZLT combined them, they should be different. |
Leetvilla:Una no know the originator of this thread. You people should read between the lines and contact the sure plug for "the other way". Meanwhile, I get one wey the data don expire for sale, but it looks like I won't be selling it because transferring ownership is not straightforward. |
MorataFC:Yes na. Both of them have their separate login details written on them, which I have so far bookmarked. I don bookmark many IPs, and some use the same IP - mostly 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1. These can be changed by you if you wish. You can always find the defaults on the labels pasted on the routers. |
Osyxcel:Make Dustmalik try am abeg. ![]() I no dey do again |
Burgerstv23:You can get away with more current, that is using 5A when specs is 4A or below. The device will just take what it needs and leave the rest. Voltage is unforgiving. While the difference is not much, it can affect the device adversely. The best is to look for a power bank of that exact voltage rating. |
dukeo:I don't have the version with me so I don't have a rubber stamped guide. You can follow the procedures I posted before with ZTE MC801A. |
Osyxcel:Tried many options. The X25 seems to be stubborn with this. I only succeeded in making only one device connect and browse - the first device to be connected will browse, the rest won't. The thing took most of my free time. I no dey try am again jare. One thing I found online is that the pro version of this router (i.e. X25 pro and perhaps the now available Max 2) have that root access and in fact have a dedicated WAN from one of the LAN ports. It's not straightforward with this normal X25 router. |
Osyxcel:You know, without successfully connecting the IDU to internet, the ODU interface won't be accessible. Or so I think, because I did try to access it, also to no avail. |
Osyxcel:It recognized it as the network indicator lights up when it's plugged, just like it does when I plug MC801A. |
Unfaized:If you have a hardware sitting idle and you found you can put it to use, why not experiment? For most people, it won't make much difference using a CAT 5 vs CAT 6, especially if you have 5G signal in your location. I'm already hooked to ZTE MC801A as my IDU and put the follow come IDU to rest. I might one day use it as a repeater. |
Osyxcel:I changed the ip, was able to login to normal admin portal but couldn't do much with it. Root still didn't login, internet didn't work. Funnily enough, my phone, which browsed initially, stopped browsing when I tried other ports and back to the first lan port. Now I have a theory as to why it initially browsed on phone and not pc. I turned 5G optimization on and the phone typically connects with 2.4Ghz and the pc 5Ghz. Apparently using the X25 as wired router only works with 2.4Ghz when 5G Optimization is on. I stand to be corrected. I tried many times to get the router to browse again even on the phone with no luck. I even had to switch off the 5g optimization and reboot the router many times with no success. I had to reluctantly reset it to factory settings, still to no avail. I just plugged MC801A back. I no dey try again jare. Maybe tomorrow but not tonight again ![]() |
Gshems:I tried the 2.4Ghz and pexels still struggled. |
Osyxcel:It's working when I visit it while using just the router connected to power, but when connected via the ODU, the IP doesn't open. Meanwhile, when only power and it opens, admin and root do not login. root and root also don't. Apparently that superuser interface is not available for this router. This is the normal X25 and not the pro or max variant. |
Osyxcel:How does that logging in as root work? I'm testing with the X25 now and, somehow, it's plug and play but it's only browsing in my phone and not browsing on pc. Also, 192.168.1.1, where I would have logged in to change settings is not working. I will just test with another port now. I will report when I get it working properly. |
Osyxcel:I see. With my new router and about 3 other numbers, I have never opened some sites like Pexels without issue, with Airtel. Other networks work well with these sites. Airtel self eh. |
Osyxcel:Some people here said they were able to tweak it and visit specific sites without issues. I have same thought as you but when someone showed a screenshot of said site visited without problems, it was still Airtel they said they used. That's why I keep trying. |
dustmalik:By this, I guess you mean the G5F? The MC801A can have its DNS server changed. You can set it if you choose Static instead of Dynamic. I was trying to set it up but don't know what to put in the Default Gateway field. If anyone knows what it is, I can check again to see if it will work. When I was using just the X25, I changed the primary and secondary DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 respectively but still not able to visit pexels without VPN. I haven't tried using the X25 because, since it's an Airtel router, I have taken it elsewhere where I will sometimes use the ODU sim to browse in it. @saint2ace said it's plug and play and it appears he has tried it. Abeg @saint2ace come explain how you used it. In any case, I will try go take the X25 and try later this evening or next week, for science. Just that I have somewhat permanently put the router arrangements in place and the MC801 is well fitted in its place. |
dustmalik:Please are you able to visit pexels dot com seamlessly? Did you connect through dynamic mode or you set up the static IP option? I don't know why Airtel is struggling to open this site in all my routers. I have to always use a VPN before it works well. |
Zain301:I don't know the device you referenced. If it has LAN ports, it's likely going to work; especially if one of the LAN ports has 'WAN' written beside it. If it's not a CAT 6 device, you better use the IDU that comes with G5F than going through the stress. |
Ex0rrcist:Yes. It's a cat 6 device. Performance will be noticeably better when you connect multiple devices. I think in my case I wouldn't have gone to get cat 6 device, but I have one sitting idle, so I gave it a try. |
dustmalik:Oh yes. We now have Cat 6 router for the G5F ODU ![]() My MC801A was lying useless. Now the MF296A will have to be the one sacrificed. The install helper app really helped me get a good place to put the ODU for the strongest band in my location with poor network. |
dustmalik:Locking has absolutely zilch to do with it. So it will work for you too. It's almost plug and play but you have to do something first. 1. Remove any sim inside 801A and plug it in. 2. Connect to it via your pc or phone and login, usually through 192.168.0.1 3. Change current mode to cable broadband mode. It will ask you to select the LAN port which will act as WAN (ie the one you will plug the LAN cable from the ODU connection unit (the power bank)). 4. Connect everything as you would have done. You can power 801A with its own power bank or from the shared power bank, which is what I did to reduce number of cables and adapters. 5. When everything is connected, choose 'dynamic' as connection mode and you are good to go. You don't have to do these the next time. Just remember the port you chose as WAN port. |
