happney65:Well put. Contrary to what many Nigeria Christians may say, many of them are just innately corrupt. A large number of people in the country, especially the ones who go to church, have comfortably rationalised their bad behaviour such that they conveniently justify it with the same Bible verses they tout. Those who steal money, those who fornicate, those who commit adultery, those who keep or walk way with money accidentally transferred into their accounts, those who pillage government resources, those who lie on a steady, it goes on and on; these people are mostly Christians and ardent church goers. In fact, look at the statistics of those who go to church every single Sunday, you'd think the country should be on the right path towards a sustainable future. But the reverse is the case. Things keep getting worse and many don't even trust their neighbours. You then start to wonder why the surprise. You couldn't have said it better. It's who we are! |
UnconventionalT:It depends on your priorities. I wouldn't say to just go to where you have better job prospects. Some people have great jobs, but they are dying inside where they are for lack of company, which makes them indulge in all kinds of short term happiness searches, which could be sometimes destructive. If your friend's company or just general company is more important to you, go stay around her. You will always find a good job in Ottawa at some point, if not now. There are people who have great jobs in Ottawa. However, if you don't care too much for company, enjoy being by yourself, and prioritize savings (Calgary is overall cheaper than Ottawa), then you may want to go to Calgary. As long as you don't despair, you will find a good job in Calgary. |
ednut1:He has finally done so after weeks of resignation rumours. Lower immigration is definitely going to be one of the eternal consequences of Trudeau (and possibly the liberal party) leaving power. It doesn't look very good for the Liberal party right now. Polls show they very likely will lose in the next elections, except the new party leader spins out some magic before October. It's crazy. 2018-2022 will forever remain the golden period for express entry for most Nigerians. 2018-2022 especially was that period where you could score 430-440 on CRS and still have some decent hope of getting ITA. Now, it has become more difficult with the need of having to learn French to have a real chance. From here, it is even more likely to get more difficult. While they may not stop express entry, chances are they are likely to make it more difficult. The pressures on job, housing and healthcare are showing that the immigration numbers need to come down significantly. Trudeau tried to play on that some months ago, but it didn't work. The conservatives are just going to jump on it to further cement public opinion in their favour. Anybody that is still dreaming of the best option to PR right now from Nigeria should just go learn French asap and try get in before this time next year. |
funkyy598:Or is it the ones worrying endlessly for months about when they'll receive their passports from IRCC, raising an endless number of webforms to prod the commission, writing multiple long emails to MPs all over Canada, endlessly worrying about an application that is almost a certainty and that will work 100% as long as you had ITA and have done everything right; doing all of this time-wasting and soul-sucking efforts, instead of planning ahead for a future in Canada that will be certainly different and challenging? I just shake my head when I see those kinds of comments. Someone has done something to us as Nigerians for sure. Pathetic! |
ednut1:THis just seems like a desperate individual grasping at straws. Trying to reason with such a person is effectively equivalent to talking to a wall. The best thing is to let them make their own experiences. |
lanresz:It's a death sentence. But they never learn. Best bet would be to get something in school, e.g. teaching assistant, to only partially fund one's education, and even that is stressful on its own. But anyone that smart probably already knows how difficult things would be. |
MÁNNABBQGRILLS: |
Be lyk this girl's marketing people are really working overtime. |
CandyOps:Don't project your reality on others. I have abstained from sex for more than a year and at no point did I feel like sexualizing any action of a woman I saw. That's just plain wrong. |
Odotech:Way to go justifying the unjustifiable. Churches are not supposed to be places of business, at least that's what you and your type would have us believe. If for nothing, even if it's right legally, the church has a need to uphold its moral values and return the donations given by a criminal. Even MIT and Harvard that are not religious institutions returned the money given them by SBF. And he wasn't even a corrupt politician. Your lot will never surprise me. It's intrinsic in the DNA of the religious Nigerian to justify crime, especially when committed by the church. |
greatiyk4u:It's no surprise, mate. It's no wonder many of the country's citizens are themselves deathly corrupt. |
Sp1ritHusband:One way is different from one stop. Read to comprehend. |
allola:Whatever information you may have entered into their systems with respect to express entry, they have the right to keep for up to 5 years after last administrative action. |
orjohn24:Just one of the things I had in mind when I typed that too. Maybe you don't know. Italians have a rich history in Montreal and Toronto, as its mafia has a history just as rich too. Organized crime in Canada rakes in billions of dollars every year and those at the top are more light-skinned than ever. Italians, chinese, vietnamese, etc. make up a sizeable bunch. Tse Chi Lop, one of the most notorious drug lords in Canada who allegedly controlled more than 70% of the Austrialian meth market and reportedly made over $8billion a year (mind-blowing, right!?), is in no way black. Who knows how much drug and child pornography money is going to house purchases all over Vancouver and Toronto, and they are getting purchased mostly by Chinese Canadians who are still partly resident in Macau or Hong kong. And of course, everyone knows how much illicit wealth flows into Hong Kong yearly. If all you see are cars being hijacked and sent to Nigeria and Ghana, then I'm fairly convinced you aren't just that knowledgeable on crime in Canada and those who commit them. You still aren't seeing beyond your nose. I'm just always amazed at the self-righteous ignorance many once-new, but now comfortable black immigrants display when they see news clips or instagram reels showing a few black kids breaking into a store. They see the media promoting these images and they develop a guilty pang that makes them start hating their own race and thinking their own people are those destroying the country. It's pathetic, really. Needs a new change of mindset. To not see the French mob boss sitting in his bloody palatial mansion in Montreal as the evil, but instead the 19-year-old black kid who is just being unruly. |
funkyy598:You are so naive. The richest villains in Canada aren't even black. You have no clue. Those making millions and millions in the illicit trade in guns and drugs in Canada are neither black nor brown. |
SIRTee15:Lmao! Somehow, I could help but read that in JD Vance-ish kind of tone. You are getting there gradually. And after you arrive, you'd hardly notice that anything has changed about you. It's the unconscious progression of the comfortable immigrant. From the Kemi Badenochs of this world pleading for votes in 2015 as a semi-progressive to the same Kemis cuddling with conspiracy chief JD Vance and espousing "anti-woke" ideas. It's subtle, but it creeps. |
ednut1:I can guarantee you he tried, but of course dead people don't rise again. It's just crazy to think his followers didn't hold him to that, but would rather excuse him. The gullibility is amazing! |
This was always going to happen. The cost of doing business in Nigeria for a fairly upright multinational is quite high. They'd rather leave than stay and work at 50% capacity |
Softmirror:You have to ask yourself: if it were Obasanjo or Atiku that published a book and wrote those things about the old man, Afe Babalola, would he have acted as aggressively to use the police to go after him? That tells you something, doesn't it? It tells you that men like Afe Babalola, who claim to be a distinguished advocate of the law, have been corrupted by the Nigerian system and way of thinking just as much as the next door neighbour. They know no better than to flex the power they have, just because they can. It really says a lot about our Nigerian mannerisms. |
AchrafHakimi:Mehn dude, are you really that much of a tool? With one engine down just after takeoff, you'd really recommend for the pilot to keep flying? Do you realise how dangerous that is? If you knew anything about aviation, you'd know that the pilot will certainly lose his job if that happens. But then, I'm guessing you don't know that much. |
Ringstonermasks:Your wife is actually doing the right thing. You should praise her for acting this way. |
Nigga44: It's truly amazing how this guy rubs it in their face by expending their money on luxury, yet they just keep doling it out to him. It's massive funny! Same applies to witch-slapping Oyedepo, 5G conspiracy theorist Oyakhilome, serial rapist Fatoyinbo, tea drinker Adeboye, and the rest. They take their money, rub it in their face by buying Rolls Royce and enjoying the lavish life, yet their people just don't stop feeding their pockets fat Hilarious! |
Didijiji:The problem with that is that since there's no or less accountability, the head pastor will often dip his hand in the till and use the money for personal use. Sadly that's happening all too frequently. |
House34:That's a very good point, actually. However, we still need to make a distinction between living conveniently below your wage level and living in deprivation. No one should lead a life of bare necessities, if they can afford good things. Travel, food, and rich experiences are some of the good things of life, and it's important to get in there a bit. What one shouldn't however do is frivolously keep up with the Joneses, which sadly is often what many newer immigrants do. If one is having conversations with colleagues or friends who travel twice every year, one also needs to understand if their wage can actually afford that travel before trying to indulge. Sometimes, the wage just can't. There's no way you cut or dice it. And if it can't, it is no use trying to push it. I have seen a few Nigerians here who have taken out 2023 cars and know for a fact that they will forever struggle to keep up with the payments. Why do that? Why encumber yourself for the sake of YOLO? Just because colleagues or friends drive the same car. THat's not how good financial decisions work. It's also important to highlight the importance of savings. All too often, many Nigerians think savings is equal to buying properties left right and center. That high of wanting to have two or more houses in Canada. Sometimes that could in fact be a poor decision. If you are expecting to make a certain percentage on a house in, say, 5 years, who says you can't make the same by investing in the stock market or the S&P or some Vanguard stock or even a real estate stock that may trend with the housing market? Is it not the same? I think that as new immigrants we still have some way to go understanding what savings truly means. And it's definitely not just having cash staring back at you in your bank account. Regardless however, we need to appreciate how important it is to save and to leave a legacy behind for our (well-raised) children, so they can in turn leave something behind for theirs, etc. SAving something every month, or at least making the best effort to, is something that is highly rewarding, especially in a society like this where inflation continues to be a companion and jobs aren't all the secure. Just as one can go extreme in many things in life, it is also possible to go extreme in savings. The trick is to use good judgement like one would in anything in life, understand your wage, your expenses, and make that good attempt to save. And not just save, but also invest. |
Kenn55:That one is an illusion. It'll do him well do think very well before embarking on that suicide mission lol |
Kenn55:Couldn't have said it better. Someone can be making 200k and still not be able to save 30k in a year. Another can make 80k and still save 20k in a year. It all comes down to the choices we make. Do we go out every single night just because we feel bored? Do we immediately go take on a mortgage of a big house when we know we can't truly afford it? Do we go for that latest 2023 SUV when we know that a 2008 corolla will do the trick? It's all personal decisions. But to say one can't effectively save 30k on 100k in Canada is just a big fat lie. Me I know that because I know how much I'm earning, how much I'm saving, and what lifestyle choices I've made. So I'm even using myself as personal example here sef ![]() |
seunpinky:I still disagree politely. Mortgage is not really an expense in the truest sense. I know this could be an argument all by itself, but mortgage actually facilitates savings through building up of equity. So, at least some fraction of it has to count for savings in some way. Nether is paying out a car, if you can always sell the car in the future and recoup some money from that. So, at least a fraction of that has to count in some way. I think it's disingenuous to just rope those two under expenses like you would with hanging out or going to the movies, for example. It's not truly equivalent. Now, having said that, even if we assume that someone is paying mortgage and a car, there should still be room for saving 30k in a year, if you keep costs down. Saving 30k a year is saving 2500 a month. Using EY calculator online, 100k a year puts it at around 6500k net income a month. Let's assume worst case of 6000k a month. That puts expenses at 3500k a month. We have to assume a single person, because, again, what is the other partner doing just sitting at home. Doesn't work that way. With a single person, 3500k expenses a month is very reasonable. You just need to make good financial decisions. Why pay mortgage on a full house while still single? To what end? There are cheaper options such as lower cost of living areas, town houses, even renting. Frankly, anyone single person expending 3500k a month on a steady on a salary of 6000k even in Canada is not making the right financial decisions. Maybe it comes down to making the right financial decisions to start with, and not down to the expenses themselves. But what do I know! |
MayorOfEdmonton:Mortgage is also some form of savings, so that should be factored in too, somehow. |
ednut1:If a person is PR and is earning over 100k in a year and cannot have saved 30k this year, then there's a big problem wrong with that person. That person needs a very strong lecture on financial management. I know this is besides the point made in your post, but it needs to get our there regardless. |
This guy no know pass to dey congratulate up and down. Someone that doesn't even consider himself Nigerian |
That's the reality of today's Nigeria. There are even worse examples that haven't made it to internet just yet. |
Is it still possible to verify on binance? Trying hard and this isn't working for me. Its says "not able to provide our services to users in your region" |
lol. She misses me
