Hello

Please how strict is the canada embassy regarding passport submission within 30 days of receiving PPR. My passport is currently with another embassy and I don't know when I ll get back due to processing delays. I might also have to travel immediately I get the passport.

Is it possible to write the embassy for extension to the 30 days limit?
Yes it's possible to get an extension. Send an email to them and ask for an extension. However, fast processing after you submit your passport is not guaranteed

Certainly, sharing information is not obligatory, but it is morally reprehensible to spread fabricated tales of success that favor deceitful visa agents and disadvantage innocent applicants. You clearly stated that your application was "can plus," and we all understand English. Additionally, I work in the oil and gas company sector too and the company never guarantee anyone's return unless it is an official assignment for visa application. they only issue a letter of identification that includes one's work and position. Nevertheless, people on social media should be vigilant about the veracity of the information they believe. This is because I have observed an agent using a screenshot of your testimony today to falsely encourage their clients with a purported recent success story of obtaining a Canadian visa without travel history and after a U.S. visa denial, even though many have been rejected.
why don't you post a screenshot of the testimony you saw?

Feb 10, 2024 vacation visa to Canada

Still no update since the day submitted after finger print feb 19 have they abandoned the application ? I am thinking of re-submission of new application

I have valid UK and Europe visa. Looks like they have abandoned the APPLICATION.
Wait your turn. Look above and you'll see someone who also had a UK visa and you had to wait more than 150 days. They'll get to you. Your valid UK and Europe visa doesn't make your application any special. It would help better, if you had a US visa.
PhonesRe: Meta To Reduce Office Space In Lagos by NuCypher: 7:25pm On Jun 13, 2024
Naturally, Nigeria has no hope tech-wise. Outside of the so-called fintech companies whose co-founders are simple money-grabbers or sexual molesters, it's hard to put a pin to anything of tangible worth happening in the Nigerian techspace. At the moment, it's all just an illusion. If it's not e-commerce, it's fintech. That's about it. Tech is much more than that. Tech is innovation. Yeah, perhaps there are pockets of innovation here and there. There's hardly anything tangible coming out of the so-called Nigerian Silicon Valley of Yaba. Obviously, this has become clear to Microsoft and to Meta, hence the scaling down.

If Nigeria wants to be taken seriously, then its needs to start prioritizing real innovation that solves its own local problem. E-commerce solves no problem in Nigeria, as Jumia will readily attest. it has been a struggling company since its creation. Fintech is hardly Nigeria's problem. Maybe it is in a small measure, but on a grander scale it hardly is. There are no real capital opportunities in Nigeria. As a result, companies like Risevest and Piggyvest are having to invest OUTSIDE of Nigeria. So, how does the tech space expect to grow?

Real problems like very poor doctor-to-patient ratio, wide availability of bad drugs, unavailability of drugs in remote locations, adultrated products, etc all need real tech solutions that are unfortunately not coming, are underdeveloped, or not easily accessible.

listening is my problem I hear slow french but I find conversational french really difficult to grab
The grammar and writing am good to an extent but the listening evades me
Conversational French is typically more challenging than slow french or narrations. So, it's not surprise you find it difficult. Conversational French will usually use escape words, e.g. not using ne...pas, but instead just "pas". For example, someone could say, "c'est pas pareil", instead of saying "ce n'est pas pareil". That will happen in several other forms too, including more confusing forms like "t'inquiete", which literally translates to "worry", but in actual fact means "don't worry". But you really shouldn't be too worried about this, because the conversational french you will hear on the exam day is a lot slower and more straightforward.

There are two ways you can improve your listening. Firstly, listen to french spoken at medium speed, not slow speed. This will start to push you into natural territory, the kind of territory you will get on the exam. It's best you get comfortable with this. For this, try "inner french" on youtube or "L'inconscient" on RFI, which may be a bit technical, but is still quite slow. That's your first step. Find medium spoken french and try get used to it.

Your second step is to do something called "la dictee", which is some kind of dictation. As you are listening to the podcast, try to write down the things you hear. You can try it in two ways: write out exactly what you heard and then check the transcription to see that you are correct, or try to summarize what you heard and then check the transcription. Of course, you may pause intermittently to write the things you have heard or to check the transcription against your writing. What this does for you is that it connects your understanding of the written language to the spoken language. French is one of the few languages where pronouciation follows a set rule. This is unlike english where "weight" and "height" are pronounced differently. In French, those two would be pronounced exactly the same, except for the "w" and the "h". By training your ears to connect the sound to the writing using dictation, you start to get a feel for not only the flow of the language, but also the sound of the language. That will help you listening greatly.

Basically, you want to get to the point where if you heard somebody say "le pays est immense", you want to be able to use that "ay" sound to know that that's "pays" and the "im" sound to know that that's "immense", pronounced differently from the English. You want to be able to tell the difference between the different sounds "im", "en", "in", etc. and you want to be able to anticipate verbs that follow certain nouns, e.g. il y a, or c'est pas, and listen only for the important words that follow. For example, most French people don't even pronounce the "il" in "il y a", because, at the base of it, it's not necessary, if you can anticipate what follows. That's where you want to be in your listening, primarily because it is not every word you will hear. You want to be able to infer from context and from a few phrases.

In any case, Rome was not built in a day. This will take practice and you have to be willing to put in the time.

IyawoTM:
Unfortunately we used an agent so we don't have first hand access, only what he shows us when we visit his office or what he video/screen shots and sends to us.
We applied for Express Entry, we took the IELTS and passed. I'm the main applicant, so we used my grades and work experience for everything. We have done medicals, and Biometrics. Submitted the requested passport photo size and given everything requested.
The issue now is our application when we saw it starts with V following 9 digits, and my friends in Canada are concerned that its a visitor's visa and not Express Entry which should start with EE.
We rushed to his office for him to show us the application and he opened it, but the page doesn't state anywhere whether its a visitor's application or an Express Entry application🫨
August will make it 1 year since we did biometrics, while we started the process last year April, 2023...so its officially been 1 year since we started the process.
At this point we are just praying.
Why would you even need an agent? Sorry, but that was a bad decision. This particular application is the easiest to do without an agent. Furthermore, there is no way an agent can have your best interest at heart. Only you can have your own best interest at heart. An agent will only do what is convenient for him/her, as long as it keeps the money flowing. And if the agent is Nigerian, then it is even worse.
Look through this thread, there are many people who failed using agents and who then had to circle back and do it by themselves.

He should provide you with their company partnership arrangement so you can use it to get a conference visa, and then japa, ultimately damaging the company's reputation and blocking future opportunities for others. It's unfortunate how selfishly we sometimes think and act!

Good afternoon ma'am house, Please I have a few questions. My mum and brother are in Canada and I want to apply to visit them.
- What duration do you advise I put, I actually plan to stay as long as possible?

- Someone said that I should put 2 weeks, that they would approve at least 3 or 6 months visa if my application is accepted, is this true?

- For Purpose of visit, do you think its a strong enough reason to say that I just want to visit my family? Or is there something else I can add?

- How much PoF do you suggest? Feeding and accommodation is already taken care of.
Just know that, if you put 2 weeks and end up spending 3-6 months, you are setting yourself up for intense scrutiny in future applications.

The event is an annual event. I was sponsored by my organization. I uploaded letter of invitation, pay slip and letter of introduction from my organization. i did not upload bank statement. I went last year and spent 1 week and came back though i didn't go for the main event i got the visa for last year due to vfs holding my passport for 2 weeks but i attended another event late last year hosted by the same agency with the 6 months visa. I do not have a USA Visa. I have no plans to japa either. All my colleagues also got theirs within the same time frame as mine last year, those who submitted at VFS Abuja got theirs within 1 week while vfs held mine for 2 weeks after submission last year and i complained on this forum.

Another thing is the agency hosting the event wrote to the embassy last year before our application to notify them that we were going to apply. The letter had our names, date of birth and passport number. Hope this clarifies the comments.
It's no surprise they have repeatedly given you the visa. From all indications, they could also see that you were not intending to japa.
When I worked in Nigeria then, my colleagues and I routinely went to the US for conferences and training. Not one time did they ever deny any of us. The reason was simple. Our organisation never recorded even one case of one person running away. Hence, as long as you were applying using our organisation, you got the visa upon application. No hard questions. This visa ultimately gave easy access to the US and some even went there to have their babies. But everyone always came back.
The embassy knows your organisation already and it has a good reputation. So, you shouldn't have many problems.

Good day everyone. I have been following this thread consistently and was hoping that one day I'll get to share my testimony. That was not the case, but still, I will share my Timeline for any that may still be believing God for a visa in this path. Don't give up. It may not have been for me but it doesn't mean it's not for you. Visit visa.

Application lodged- 12th December, 2023
Biometrics- 19th December, 2023
Refusal- 5th June, 2024

My application:

Duration of stay- 2 weeks
Travel history- Dubai and Singapore visa and stamps
Pof- $11,000 in my bank account (from savings)
Family pictures
Receipts from land purchases in Lagos and Ph
Sources of funds (contracts with my clients)
Motivation letter

I am actually not upset with this news, because I'd already passed the depression stages after waiting for months with no response from ircc. It was very painful because the person I sat down beside with during biometrics on the same day got his own visa after two weeks and have traveled to Canada since while I kept waiting. I am also on Filipino and Indian groups where I see people getting decisions after 30 days, but Nigerians Wil take months just to get denied.

For my Japa journey, I first tried study path, it didn't work because of the increment in pof requirements, I couldn't afford it so I gave up on that. Then I discovered a new pathway; the Francophone mobility program (this is good for those who know French and have visit visa). I spent a lot of time and money improving my french skills, but I also gave up on that after discovering the huge rate at which they are deporting Nigerians on visit visa because of asylum cases.

I'd honestly thought that since my application took long, it would be approved. And its clear that Canada laws are now becoming more stringent given that I submitted a strong application. I have seen now that Canada may not be for me.

I would have tried Express entry route but I don't have enough work experience. I have promised myself that I will not stay in Nigeria beyond this year for the sake of my mental health. ASUU has already wasted two years of my life I'll never get back.

I am still finding alternatives, but Good luck to those of you still awaiting a decision. I pray that you will receive a positive answer ijn.
Even in your write-up, it was already clear that you had no intention of coming back. Likely that's what the VO also saw in your application and therefore denied you.

That’s nice. Though exams could be a strong motivating factor, it’s actually more fun when you learn a new language simply because you love it. You know, without the pressure of exams and the anticipation of score-boosting results. Since you’re in Canada and very much settled, you can now learn at your own natural pace. With consistency and French speaking friends, it can only get better. With recent events, we can confidently say that learning a new language like French really does open doors of opportunity.
And to add to that: if anyone settles in Ontario or some other English-speaking provinces, they can learn French for free while the government pays the cost.

With the current number of people who got visas last year and the majority landing in Canada only to claim asylum and abuse the visa, it's no surprise that this affects other innocent applicants. I am not surprised by the current refusal rate. This is not the time to risk applying to Canada; the refusal rate is too high! embarassed
Sadly, there are people who had the exact same profile as that applicant, with all the travel history, a lot of dollar pof and marriage ties, but who still went to Canada to claim asylum. It's terrible. I saw a couple last week who were doing very well in Nigeria with the wife working at Glo earning well, but who still claimed asylum on landing. There was one too working at 7up. These are the people who have made getting a Canadian visit visa hard for people like this applicant. The VOs don't believe Nigerians anymore.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: What's A Red Flag That Makes You Decline To Work For A Company? by NuCypher: 3:11pm On May 17, 2024
For me, it was during an interview. I was interviewing for a role in the company before a panel of like 4 people. One of the persons was a little too aggressive with me. At some point, I went over time in answering a particular technical question, but quickly cut myself off once I realized it. That was towards the end of the interview. As we were saying our goodbyes, the aggressive lady made a very weird face and dropped off the call in the middle of my talking. Omo, it was at that point I realized this is not a place I want to work. At least this one person cannot even try to be professional in the discharge of their interview role and needed to bully a prospective employee. I knew right at that instant that I wasn't interested in the role anymore and wouldn't pursue it. Fortunately or unfortunately, they never reached out for a follow-up. Me sef, I was like, that's even better. Save me the stress. Months later, they sent me an email to say the role has opened up again and asked if I was interested in applying. I didn't even respond to their email. From the outside it looked like a nice place to work, but with my experience during that interview, it's not the place for me.

Here goes -

1) Take a pen and a book, write down your definition of success as an immigrant. Let your spouse do the-same. If that definition is different for both of you, sit down and talk about it. Make sure you both have similarity, at least 75%, in what you both define as success. I would love to give you examples but this will defeat the purpose of this task.

2) If you have house help(s), then it is time to let them go, please do not forget to do so nicely, you will understand when you get to Manitoba. Both you and your spouse should be in charge of the day to day running of your home now - domestic chores, taking care of the kids and work. This is to prepare you for the days ahead.

3) Start applying for jobs.

4) If you will need to be licensed to work in your profession, then start talking to the licensing bodies and connecting with people who have gone through the-same process.

5)Connect with immigrant welcoming organizations. Their services are free, courtesy of the federal government. Also, if you wish, join the Nigerian WhatsApp group for your destination of choice.

6) Remember the son/daughter of whom you are. Remember that there will be a lot of information, both the ones you have asked for and unsolicited. Test every counsel, do not just accept any counsel/persuasion/advice hook, line and sinker because it's coming from Justin Trudeau. Shine your eyes.

May the land favor you and yours, amen. I have assumed that you are married and with kid(s), if not, please oblige my erroneous presumption.
Beautiful piece! I wish everyone would take note of this as action items once they get their passport request, so they can start planning, instead of asking or worrying for the umpteenth time why their passport is taking forever to arrive.

Please experienced elders come and offer your 2cent for this situation.

I recently landed in Canada as a PR and still hoping for a job.

Before I landed, I engaged my girlfriend and we did introduction. Marriage was postponed till later to ensure that my marital status didn't change since I already had Copr and visa and didn't think having my application reopened before landing was the best option at that stage.

In the last one week, she has been on my neck to start processing our reunion. I explained to her that while we want this reunion now, we can't do anything till situation normalizes. She is suggesting that she applies for a tourist visa. I told her that while tourist visa is good it may not be the best option for our current situation. Here is the situation, we don't have the accumulated finances or income flow or assets to support a tourist visa application at the moment.

I suggested, that she calms down till income starts coming, so that we can arrange my trip to Nigeria for our marriage. Afterwards we can leverage one policy that IRCC rolled in around May 2023 and submit a PR application then with the AOR apply for spousal visit Visa and SOWP all at once. She considers my suggestion deceptive that I don't want her to join me, hence I am not approving of her tourist visa plan.

From her stance and what she heard from one of her colleagues she thinks the financial situation which affects the potential POF she may need to apply for her tourist visa can be arranged by agents. All my efforts to make her understand that she doesn't have a solid case with the tourist visa plan and that I don't trust Nigeria agents and can't allow her jeopardize our future reunion with unreliable documents showing numbers.

According to what she heard from a colleague too she suggested to go ahead and acquire our certificate but I told her that it will be marriage by proxy. Especially if I don't leave Canada at the time, it will be issued and Canada doesn't recognise proxy marriages. Hence, if we apply anything with that certificate it may backfire.

The constant pressure to do something about our reunion is not helping issues at all. Please if you have any suggestion that may help us, we are willing to listen.
I think many of the commenters are just exaggerating the situation. She's just worried, perhaps having heard so many stories about how japa people move on once they are abroad. The only problem I have with her is just that she's letting her worries get in the way of trust for you. There is no reason she shouldn't trust you. You guys should be a team. Did you do something in the past that makes her not trust you now? If you have been above aboard and she still doesn't trust you or your judgement, then you should be worried. It appears she's trusting friends more than she's trust your judgement. That's not good.
