teexzle: 50k for securin admission only

actually, 50k isn't too much comparing how difficult and tricky it is at times to secure such admissions. Aldo i always believe you can do it yourself.

Nuendo:

LETTER OF INTENT
1. Start off with a very very short description of who u are and your basic interests
2. Your qualifications , degree , etc
3. Work experience relevant to your first degree etc.
4. why you want to do a masters and how doing such would benefit you in your life aspirations
5. why you want to study in in Canada instead of Nigeria or another country e.g USA, UK etc
6. The u have to somehow try to convince the visa officer that your study would be beneficial back home thereby reinforcing your intent to come back home after studies.

LETTER OF SPONSORSHIP:

1. Sponsor should introduce himself, occupation, address
2. Explain his relationship to you.
3. Explain why he wants to sponsor you ( if he isn't blood related.)
4. Assure that he has the financial means to be responsible for all your expenses

DISCLAIMER : This isn't a perfect guide but going by most of what i have seen online, this could be a starting point.
my 2 cents.

Odinwa:
Thanks but am not going for masters, am going for a 2nd degree in a different course. Should I use the same format?

You can always modify the format. Relate your second degree to your aspirations and why u feel u need to do that second degree. DONT MAKE IT LOOK LIKE U ARE JUST DOING ANY COURSE FOR THE SAKE OF GETTING INTO CANADA.

There must be some form of tie to the course, your aspirations, and coming back to your home country.

hope that helps

Siga: ....It will...thats why anyone I come across in Canada, I always ensure to make good impression...to the point one silly oyinbo told me he couldnt believe I am a Nigerian...imagine...a friend of mine that works as one of the Investments Managers of a billionaire for Canada had to prove himself and the man called him...telling him he took a gamble about him, people warned him not to hire him...but he took his friends advise (the guy who referred my friend) and never regretted it....that he is a different Nigerian...so...if we all can do our part...bit by bit...they will know every country has good and bad people....its not a Nigerian thing....

Honestly i kinda hope i would have the opportunity to change the bad impression on a larger scale. Cannot imagine someone being prejudicial to me just because i am Nigerian.....unfortunately it is virtually inevitable.

These are some of the reasons why it is hard for lots of our people to get visa . . . Cos which country in the right senses will wanna give visa to nationals that they would have to teach how to speak and write english?

hope this isn't some sort of sarcasm ........

I currently came across a paypal customer forum titled NIGERIAN SCAM MAILS. this was a thread dedicated to informing users of paypal of scam mails for NIGERIA. Guess how many replies i saw there? 4900+ with different poeple posting various examples of mails from Nigeria. On there i saw several Nigerian addresses and names which really made me feel bad. Imagine the negative publicity we are getting at the moment as a result of that..

Unlike the 90's, the world is different now. A single thread/ headline / news is propagated almost 1000x faster than before with far more wider reach. Even those in eastern europe have access to such bad publicity.

Siga: ....Bro...docs need to be verified...banks need to be called...all these take time....if u apply here or any trusted country...no one calls any bank...I remembered when I applied for US visa when I was on work permit (after study)...no one called any bank...even when I sent an invitation for someone in Naija....no one called my bank here nor my broker...so...believe it or not...Canada no trust Naija documents...plus..our boys go come here dey do fraud and mess up all our reputation....

Honestly, the Nigerians that go out and drag our country's name into the mud are part of the whole problem. that being said, our presido who gives amnesty to an international fugitive and corrupt ex gov who happens to be his godfather isn't helping us at all. The world is smaller now. The rest of the world is well informed on what is happening here, the same way we watch them too.

Its really sad.

GboyegaD:

I am not sure about that and could be part of the reasons but I also think the number of applicants matters as well. For instance, some countries in the Caribbean, it takes less than 2 weeks while if you apply from the US it takes 3 weeks despite that US permanent residents and citizens do not require visa. Does it connote distrust in this case or just that the more the population, the more time it takes.

USA population = 300m : 3weeks
India =600m :6 weeks
China =1b :4 weeks
Nigeria = 150m : 18 weeks

Corruption is the answer.

Everything

am glad am not the only person realizing this. We have lost every form of respect in the intl community. India with a population triple of ours requires just 6 weeks to get a visa + dey dont need your great grand mother's birth certificate in order to confirm that you are who u claim to be.

How did we get here??

GboyegaD:

What has SA not requiring visa got to do with Nigeria requiring visa.

In Ghana the study permit takes just 4 weeks. there is a general distrust of Nigerians compared to our other African counterparts. We have to tell ourselves the truth that even the way we act here in Nigeria (corruption by our leaders etc) is in this globalized age being observed by the whole world.

Its just like seeing a young lady who lives opposite your compound being dropped every morning by all sorts of exotic cars after the night's work and you eventually hearing that that same lady is about to get married to your younger brother......
Bad Impressions go a very looooooonnng way.

thnx man, i actually called them. Pls is this a consequence of the state of the country ?? how can the embassy keep custody of such a huge amount of documents for such a long period of time. Even one's original passport, Birth Certificates? land Documents etc.......... GOSH!!!!! Meanwhile South Africans do no require visas to go to canada.

Shame on Nigeria.

HELLO ALL..........PLEASE WHO HAS EXPERIENCE WITH VFS GLOBAL?? I completed my submission this morning and i must confess that i am a bit worried by the number of original documents i submitted today from birth certificates of my parents to land docs and share certificates....

pls i find this particularly disturbing . WHT IS EVEN MORE DISTURNBING IS THE FACT THAT THERE WASN'T ANY SORT OF ENTRY FOR THEM TO CONFIRM WHICH DOCS DEY COLLECTED. SO WE ARE BASICALLY AT THEIR MERCY

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF AND WHEN THESE DOCS WUD BE RETURNED. DOES IT HAVE TO TAKE THE 4-6 MONTHS

ANSWERS PLS.... sad

PLEASE GUYS! I AM NOT A VISA EXPERT BUT I FEEL IF THE ONLINE PORTAL IS GIVING YOU DIFFICULTIES OR HARD FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND, THEN PLEASE JUST USE THE NORMAL VFS PHYSICAL METHOD. TIME IS GOING AND THERE IS NO TIME TO KEEP STRUGGLING WITH THE PORTAL. ANYWAY IT'S JUST MY SUGGESTION. Sorry for the capital letters.

You will be notified once a decision is made however, you could just check once in a while. I know how it feels and the anxiety but all I can say is that it is well.

@ Gboyega. : does the online application hold for Nigerian residents too? I actually started yesterday but saw in a section that it applied to only residents and citizens of certain countries listed of which Nigeria wasn't among. Am I missing something pls?
