nwabobo: I can deduce from your post above that you are either new to nairaland or mischievous. The issue about the educational level of both regions ie SE and SW has been trashed here severally. The data above correlates with the number of candidates who gain admission to study in Nigerian universities. Available data show that more South Easterners gain admission to study in Universities than South Westerners. The topic was discussed here;It is for the reasons above that the son of a palm wine tapper or even a drunkard can become the richest man in his town in Igboland unlike other regions where if you don't get a good formal education and your family is not wealthy to set you up in business, your future is doomed. Most of those boys you see selling "spare parts" are equivalent of the Yorubas who end up as Area boys. |
Olugbenger: how the do uu correlate d large number of jamb applicants with the standard of education?I can deduce from your post above that you are either new to nairaland or mischievous. The issue about the educational level of both regions ie SE and SW has been trashed here severally. The data above correlates with the number of candidates who gain admission to study in Nigerian universities. Available data show that more South Easterners gain admission to study in Universities than South Westerners. The topic was discussed here; https://www.nairaland.com/237534/look-going-school-nigeria-statistics The data where then available on JAMB website until Prof. Dibu Ojerinde became JAMB registrar. Now concerning the "spare parts" issue; in Igboland, after secondary school, a child in agreement with the family decides whether to pursue tertiary education or go to learn a trade. Many factors are considered here and these include; the child's academic ability, the family's financial capability viz sponsoring the child for further education, the child's career goals and what the family would like him to do. After the deliberations, a decision is taken and the child either pursues tertiary education or goes to learn a trade by becoming an apprentice to someone who is already established in the field of business he wants to join. The apprenticeship usually lasts for a period of between 5 to 7 years depending on the apprentice's age, behaviour and relationship (biological) with the 'master'. On completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice is given funds and other resources depending on the 'master's' capability necessary for him to start his own business. He starts and when his business starts growing, he heads down to the village to bring his own 'boy' (apprentice) and the cycle continues. COSCHARIS, ORANGE DRUGS, IBETO, INNOSON, OGBUAWA etc are all products of this process. So in Igboland, you either go for tertiary education or you go into business and this is done straight after secondary school. Some take a shot or two at JAMB and if there's no success, the join business. This explains why there are no area boys nor Almajiris in Igboland as those who are not academically bright or can't afford tertiary education have a choice. Hope I've educated you enough on this. |
demmy: What airports? I hope you are not crediting the bigot Igbo minister for airport renovations because I am sure those contracts were already awarded by Obasanjo and Yar'Adua. Are you kidding me? Are you for real? |
demmy: I am beginning to think you're not that bright. Do you know that the Dana Air Flight 992 disaster happened on "this woman"'s watch? Is that what you call improvement? Then she gave Dana their license back before the investigation was concluded adding salt to the injury of the victims' relatives. Other than sacking Yorubas and replacing them with mostly unqualified kins of hers, what reform has she embarked upon?Judging from your post above, I take it that you do not use our airports. In that case, I'm afraid you won't understand. Why not keep shut for now until we start discussing about molues and brt buses. |
ilugunboy: So obviously it's not that the Ibos have always been excluded from the ministry since ages that these bigots are painting picture ofNope. Just that the past ministers, Igbos inclusive didn't have enough clout to "declare war on the Yorubas" by dismantling their intricate web of corruption and corrupt practices which they have institutionalised in our civil service. That is the difference here. This woman is taking them head on with concomitant improvements in resulting output hence the hues and cry you are hearing. |
jas_o: This is what you get when people from particular segment of country head the affair of the nation. It is more reason why they've being denied the opportunity because some greedier knows their fellow greediest. Having envisage today event, am afraid this will be the last taste of SS and SE presidency before the nation brake out.Yea bro. Same tribe organised the 2 million man march for Abacha, formed the 5 political parties that adopted Abacha, sold out their presidential candidate Ribadu at the dying minute, organised all pro third term activities for OBJ etc. By the way, nothing in the pictures to support the topic. demmy: Have you been to the Gbagi or Iwo Road areas of Ibadan? Igbos boku.Bros Igbo boku everywhere even for obodo oyibo. That is the reason why I'm happy with Eze Festus Odimegwu's plan to capture state of origin and religion in the 2016 census. I laugh when some nitwits who haven't been to the South East say that all Igbos have left the South East and there is nobody living there. That us why most of them get shocked on what they see on the other side as they approach the Niger bridge from Asaba. I have a reason to believe with all due respect that the Igbos are the most populous tribe in Nigeria. Debatable though for now but the success of the 2016 census would put that to rest. |
Orikinla: [size=18pt]Seriously, do you think we have a government in this state? How many Nigerians actually pay tax? |
ilugunboy: Darn! I thought you have something reasonable to say...you just want to pluck your oft-mouthed improvements from the air abi? That's the printer's devil meant to type country's. Guess my phone's auto correct must have done that as I'm posting from my mobile. |
Dudu_Negro: the opportunity to get an independent appraisal of how competent and meritoious Igbos are exist only at the state and regional level, where the outcome of their governorships can be reviewed. on that basis, where do the igbo governors stand compared to their peers in other regions? In carrying out that appraisal, you have to take into consideration the amout of resources available to them viz their counterparts in other regions. In the curent dispensation, apart from Theodore Orji of Abia state I don't think there is any state governor in the SE that is not performing creditably well when placed side by side with governors from other regions with access to same level of resources. Though more need to be done. |
Dudu_Negro: How do you truly measure merit and competence in a system knee deep and traditionally corrupt and inept? Are you saying that these Igbo ministers are immune to the corruption and temptations they are soorunded in?The mere fact that they have been able to perform despite being surrounded by the vices you listed above speak volume of who they are and what they are made of. In a blind system like Nigeria, competence can be measured by output.... |
ilugunboy: Which improvement is this one talking about since....mention those improvements you keep attributing to her personal effort.Dude, improvements in the aviation sector is not like what obtains in the power sector where you can measure improvements in the comfort of your bedroom. Those of us who use the countries airports regularly know there have been tremendous improvement in that sector recently. |
ilugunboy: That woman is one of the people creating problem for the GEJ Admin....How many of the S/S folks are performing? For you to perform in Nigeria, you must ruffle feathers especially in places where corrupt practices have been institutionalised and we know the tribe that have woven an intricable web of corrupt networks in our civil service. The only ministers who have performed are those who have stepped on toes and ruffled feathers eg Ngozi Iweala, Barth Nnaji and Stella Oduah. No amount of propaganda by those whose elastic chain of corrupt networks are being dismantled will deter these people. The Igbos are not cowards and do not back off when they are pursuing a just cause especially our women viz; Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Aruma Oteh, Ngozi Iweala etc. and now, Stella Oduah. I ask again, why is it that the aviation sector has seen massive improvement and the ministry started working since this woman declared war on the Yoruba? |
Israel successfully tests Arrow 3 missile interceptor 2 hours ago Arrow 3 will extend Israel's multi-layered missile defence shield Israel's defence ministry says it has carried out a successful test of its new missile interceptor system. Arrow 3 detects an incoming missile, intercepts it and destroys it with a second missile above the earth's atmosphere. Officials said the cutting-edge system had been designed to defend Israel from the threat of a strike from Iran. Monday's test was conducted alongside US forces and is the first time the system has been tested. Israel already has the Iron Dome missile defence system, which - officials say - intercepted up to 85% of missiles fired from Gaza towards populated areas during the conflict in November 2012. Full implementation Defence officials say that because the system will be able to shoot down missiles in space, it could cause nuclear and chemical warheads to disintegrate safely. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-21571422 |
