AlJ_harem, can you put up a list from your state that can compete with the list from Anambra below. If you do that, I'll denounce my Igbo lineage; ANAMBRA STATE Odumegwu Ojukwu Chinua Achebe Emeka Anyaoku Chimamanda Adichie Cardinal Arinze Philip Emeagwali Alex Ekwueme Dora Akunyili Chinyelu Onwura (Labour Party MP, UK) Chuka Umunna (Labour party MP, UK) Charles Soludo Oby Ezekwesili Cosmas Maduka (Coscharis) Cletus Ibeto Emeka Offor Nnamdi Azikiwe Nwafor Orizu (Nigeria's 1st senate presido) Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu (1st African multi millionaire) Chike Obi Kenneth Dike (1st Nigerian VC of a university UI) Ben Enweonwu Pius Okigbo Chuba Okadigbo Jerome Udoji Cyprian Ekwensi Augustine Ilodibe (Ekene DiliChukwu) Prof. Samuel Okoye etc |
Alj_harem, can we have the list from your state? |
Though what Achebe said is the truth, some things are better not said especially by an elder statesman like him. Even since the advent of democracyin 1999, every sane Nigerian will agree that most of the ministries and parastatals that have performed creditably are those under Igbo leadership especially our women. It's not out of place to say that until Nigeria acknowledges the potentials of an Igbo led leadership and tap into such, the country shall continue to grope in the dark. |
Enigift: @ nwabobo thanks @ nicky341 thanks but do u know the costAbout 230,000 naira. If it's a set of twins, multiply the amount by 2. |
gen2boi: Has any of you ever heard of CVS? Most of you shld stop typing n0nsense. I and my partner ar both AS and we have 5 kids without any SS.It's not everybody that can abort a foetus and the average Nigerian can not afford CVS. |
@ op, it depends on ur personal convictions. If you are willing to terminate the pregnancy ie abortion, you can go ahead that is if you have the money. You can go for prenatal amniocentesis test to determine the Hb genotype of the unborn child from the 11th week of pregnancy and you can go ahead to terminate the pregnancy if it's SS. This costs 230,000 naira in Nigeria. At the end of the day, it's ur decision to make. |
Mandelaguy: It is happening live, let me see the idiot that will say GEJ has no sense of direction, the man knows what he is doing.Madam Ngozi Okonjo iweala is providing the sense of direction. |
I can sense the voice of Jonathan; the hands of Iweala. |
There is nothing wrong in sponsoring a family member to study abroad especially when one can comfortably foot the bill. Where I come from, it is viewed as the responsibility of the sibling who is well to do to provide every nevessary support (financial) to the other siblings and to ensure they are able to stand on their feet either in business or academically except where the sibling is proven as 'wayward' or unserious. In my community, the measurement of how well you are doing extends to how your parents, siblings and sometimes members of your extended family are doing. Sometimes, extended family members ie cousins pull resources together to sponsor such endeavour. It works for us and Ingladly do my own part and wouldn't mind sponsoring any family member as long as that would better his quality of life. By the way, 100% of my tuition fees as well as living expenses for my studies here in the UK were provided by my immediate elder brother who is just 1 yr and 7 months older than me. It is not mandatory but I d not think I'd be able to catch a good sleep at night if I had any sibling who couldn't pull his own in the society. Then and again, me thinks it's a cultural thing. That's why a poor Igbo boy will leave his family in the village to 'serve' a master (trade apprenticeship) in Lagos for 6 years, get settled and as soon as he starts doing well, goes back to bring his brother. He makes sure he sets the brother up in business, takes over (to the best of his ability)the responsibility for those who are in school and makes sure the family is fairly ok before he marries. These are societal expectations and anybody who was brought up in that society imbibes the culture save for a few. |
Dharkchild: what I know is that embassy has a right to verify the information provided by applicant are true and they do it in a legal manner.Much as it's advisable to leave the money in the bank until a decision is made on the application, UKBA doesn't check the balance on the day they go for verification as they are certain information the bank is not obliged to divulge to them. What they do is to practically send a copy of the statement you provided with other details eg DOB to the bank to confirm the authenticity of same. They can also request for the contact details of the account holder if the feel they need to contact same. I know a couple of people who have made withdrawals after submitting their applications but I do seriously advise against that just incase one is refused and needs to reapply ASAP. |
@ topic. Things dey happen for London wey all man no know. You can get the Cardiff Metropolitan University or University of East London MBA for £3,950 from London School of Commerce. You study in LSC, but get registered with the Uni with full access to their facilities and online resources, participate in the same graduation with students who applied directly to the Uni and get same degree certificates with nothing showing that you studied in an affiliate college. Some of us found out after paying around 10k to the Uni. Well, it's a matter of choice though and depends on how much one has got to spend. Except for a top rate Uni, I'd rather go the above route than pay as much as £12,000 to a low rated Uni. |
PROUD-IGBO:Dude, you asked for pictures, these are pictures of developments as at Nov. 2008. http://www.oprplc.com/runtime/uploads/Files/OrientRefineryEventsinPictures28Nov08.pdf |
Are you African-American or Nigerian-American? Your grammatical construction is pure Naija bruv. Just my observation. |
To think that some of our past leaders passed through this poo. No wonder they dragged us back a century. |
She finally got the visa after a second attempt. Thanks to everyone. |
Vicjustice: You talk about her mum's circumstances, but she is an adult desiring to travel to the UK for pleasure; she is neither going to the UK for medical reasons nor for studies, nor is she going on a complimentary offer from her work place (these are the conditions in which sponsorship is considerable) otherwise, since she does not meet the requirement of a tourist/pleasure visitor on her own, you need to be an eminent figure to be capable of inviting her. Well, you can try your luckShe finally got the visa yesterday after we decided to reapply. |
@topic, will shopping malls also be acquired for our igbo brothers who travel elsewhere for greener pastures? The Igbos buy land to erect their shops or rent one when they go up North to do business. If the Fulanis want land for grazing, they should as well be able to purchase one or at least rent afterall it's their private business they r running. What is good for the goose is also good for the gander. |
Imo State government says it has, in collaboration with four foreign based universities, concluded plans to establish four new universities in the state this year. Disclosing this cheering news to newsmen in Owerri before he left for Lagos, Governor Rochas Okorocha said the arrangement was in line with the free education programme of his administration for Imo children. “The measure would help accommodate the overwhelming number of Imo indigenes seeking admission into institutions of higher learning in the country”, Okorocha explained. Answering a question, the Governor said government has released the sum of N400 million in addition to what he termed “other logistics”, to ensure immediate take off of the projects. Continuing, the Governor said his administration would in September this year, commence the distribution of free uniforms, sandals, desks and books to all primary and secondary school students, adding that this is part of the plan to encourage education in the state. He frowned at a situation where parents and guardians engaged their children and wards in economic activities during school hours at the detriment of their education. Governor Okorocha gave an assurance that education would remain a top priority of his administration and passionately appealed to parents and guardians to take advantage of the free education policy and educate their children. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/07/imo-to-establish-four-new-universities/ |
@Topic, this goes a long way to show that it's not how much you have but how enterprising and hardworking and determined one is. Kudos umuigbo. |
Udude' more Pishure pls! Abi d anu mgbada neva digest finish? |
I don't know where this man got his 10% stat from. Unemployment in Anambra is below 5%. I've never seen any fit Anambrarian who is above 20 yrs and unemployed. |
dommfa: Hi. Please I applied for visiting visa a month ago but was rejected based on and I quote <b>"you have stated in your visa application that your sponsor who is your father will finance you. However, you have failed to provide satisfactory evidence of your sponsor's income. I have therefore been unable to assess the impact the sponsorship would have on your sponsor's financial circumstances and whether such a sponsor is viable and credible. I am not satisfied that the evidence submitted confirms the ability of your sponsor to finance you as you claimed. Therefore on the balllance of probabilities, I'm not satisfied that you will be maintained and accommodated in the UK without working or having recourse to public funds..."</b>The problem lies in providing satisfactory evidence of your father's income and not that the balance is insufficient. The ECO expects to see evidence of the source of income and this must match entries on the account statement. |
NB; You stand a better chance going for the spouse visa or at least the family visit visa like justwise has stated. |
philipin7: vicjustice in case you are not aware@op, hope U know a difference exists between INCOME and SALARY. The requirment like u stated for a spouse visa is 18,600 GBP in gross annual income. I assume the 15,600 GBP U stated above is his basic salary as an HCA in the NHS. If that is the case, that rate does not take into account unsocial hours worked e.g night shifts, weekends as well as bank holidays and NHS nursing staff which include the HCAs do a lot of this as well as Bank (overtime) shifts. A combination of the stated should take his annual INCOME well above the 18,600 GBP minimum earning requirement to sponsor a spouse. He can only know how much he has earned in a particular financial year after grtting his P60. A nurse friend of mine who is on Band 5 pay scale and therefore should be earning a salary below 30,000 GBP actually earned a little more than 40,000 GBP in the last financial year. The 18,600 GBP earning is not tied to your basic salary. Discuss this with him and find out what he earned for the last financial year cos they just got their P60 about three weeks ago. |
ismhab: Breaking News. What kinda prayer ishmab? Requiem high mass abi Fidau prayer? |
Company accounts can be used to sponsor a vacation to the UK. My immediate elder brother has always used his Company accounts to get visas for himself as well as his famIly. What he does is to draft a Board resolution to sponsor a proposed trip of the MD and his family to the UK for the said period and then gets those listed as Board members on the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the company to approve the said proposal and they have never been refused entry clearance. He gets letters from the various banks confirming him to be the sole signatory to the accounts and he has never included tax clearance certificate. |
justwise: Was the N1.3million from your salary or you paid money into that salary account making it N1.3million?Justwise and Vicjustice, Just a quick one. How about someone presenting a company account in which case the company is involved in construction contracts and lump sums are paid in periodically (not frequent) when projects reach certain completion levels. In this case, the person is expecting a payment of more than 5M naira from a govt ministry and intends to print out the statement as soon as the money hits the account. Would this also be treated as money lodgement as this would be a payment for a contract which is being executed. Thanks. |
From I didn't collect any money to I informed IG. Lol! This is getting more interesting. |
Vicjustice: Be reminded that there are rules and regulations under which the protocol of visa application are decided; and in this case, your girlfriend did not meet the requirement by financial standard; the Education matter is merely an additional reason for the refusal, as the principal cause for the refusal is her financial circumstances. Now, the chances are, she would still be refused the visa if she goes ahead to apply for it while her financial circumstance remains the same. Thanks Vicjustice. But she is a full time non working student who is dependent on the family resources. She's only dependent on me for the purpose of this visit as the family is pretty ok. Do you think she stands a chance if she submits the letter of administration making her and her mum administrators of her late father's estate which includes a company which is a going concern as well as landed properties? At least I know they have a house in the FCT from which they earn rent income and the mum also runs her own business which is doing quite well. |
