Hi Fam,

I need your help. How do I go about getting a letter from my PFA for POF. I use Arm Pensions. I know there is this caveat, you can only access 25% of ur pension if you are out of job for atleast 4 months. How does this work cos am still employed.

Thanks.

I tried the TEF route but couldn't get the additional 30points. It depends on your proficiency level. If you are about B2 Delf/Dalf, den you just need little brush-up/revision. But you can still try. CLB 5 which is about B1, gives you a max of 15 points for second language.
tonyik:
Thanks for the post. Some of us with estimated CRS of 415 are still hoping. Wish i can see get advise on house to ace TEF, dat will give extra 30 points.

Congrats oo. Abeg how did you use pension for POF ?
Did they give you a statement of acct or sth ? Thanks.
yimiton:
Hi Guys, my PPR is here and I really want to thank God for it.

Our application wasn't in anyway perfect.

Things we were scared we didn't get right:

1. We used 25% pension to complete our POF
2. We didn't upload my spouse's IELTS but raised a CSE about 2 days after AOR
3. Used LOE to explain that the part of the POF which was in T.bills was withdrawn from my cooperative savings account

Timeline:
CRS: 438
ITA: 9th August 2017
AOR: 23rd August
Medical passed/IP1: 6th Sept
NA2: 8th Sept
IP2: 15th Sept
PPR: 15th Sept
Family of 4

The PPR mail landed at 3.01am but we saw it at 9am today.

Our status still hasn't updated but hey, we have the mail.

In all, we give God the glory and we recognise that He alone made this happen.

Mrs O ! Just seeing your response. We are still exploring all options sha. We never even reach ppr stage. Anyways, hope you guys had a smooth landing. Please keep us updated. Let's all hope for the best. In naija talk "sickness no be our portion".

Dear Nwandy,

Hmmmm.....this is a good question. We also have a toddler who often gets a cold. We looked at the insurance costs, and it was about CAD 400 I think for 3 of us (2 adults and a child) for 3 months. I am not 100% sure of the figure because we looked at this about 6 weeks ago. Eventually, we did not pay for the insurance. We stocked up on Vitamin C and prayed, and left it at that. It also helps that we hardly ever visit the hospital in Nigeria.

I am not certain that this was the right approach. However, I am comforted by the knowledge that there are community health centres around us, which are subsidised, and so if we ever need to see a doctor, we can use there. I am not sure how much this will cost though.

Alternatively, if we choose to visit a hospital, a friend said that he and his family did not pay for health insurance, and each time they needed medical attention, he had to pay CAD 90 per visit to a hospital.

Perhaps, someone with more experience here can help better, but this is the information I have.

Thanks.

Mrs O, longest time. Been waiting on u to update us on ur blog. How are you settling in ?
impish:
Hi Pauloverdi,

My family and I landed in Canada on August 31. We were asked how much we had on us, and we responded that we had 0, yes 0 USD on us. The IO asked how much we had available to us, and we mentioned that we had some money in our US accounts etc (the total was above the required CAD 18k required for a family of 3. My husband logged into one of his accounts and was trying to show the IO the balance of his account, but he was not interested at all.

Not sure if they ask everyone to count their money, but we were not asked to show POF at the airport.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fam, for those that landed in Ontario, how do you handle the 3 months wait for OINP health insurance ? Reason I ask is that I am coming with a toddler and an infant who are allergic esp to cold. Just wondering how much private insurance would cost for the period.

TEF is organized by Alliance Francaise in Nigeria. Check their website for exam schedule. I wrote mine in Lagos. It is usually once a month depending on number of applicants.

Yes you can.
Cannie:
Hello good people
What do you think?
I sold a couple of my properties and I was able to raise way above the POF requirement.
I am looking at ITA sometimes in December.
I honestly can't wait for the 6months bank thingy to apply.
Does it make sense to just invest this money in treasury bills (6month tenure) immediately and use the certificate for POF even if the investment is not up to 2months?
Your opinion counts

Hello boss,
I have been here for just a month though.

So, I might not be entirely correct.

It all depends on your budget...
For cheap rent, it is usually in the Quebec side (Gatineau area, hull etc) with services and quite close to downtown. At the moment I stay in Orleans, the rent there aint bad though.

For transport: Buses get to almost everywhere.

In terms of security, well I have heard from some friends that some part especially the byward areas, are bit rough.
But, then it depends on your routine.

For french locals, I think there is a good mix of them in Ottawa, then more in Gatineau. So, you are covered.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Mazi

For medicals, please whic of these is best in terms of costs and speed of process for those residing in Lagos. I don't want to spend a whole day at the clinic. Please what are their various costs for children and adults.

Thanks.

2. Q-life clinic
3. IOM Ikeja

You are free to live in Quebec as a FSW immigrant once you complete your landing formalities in any other province aside Quebec.

Thanks a lot bro. Please does that also mean the kids can be enrolled in a school in Gatineau ? @blackbuddy,
thanks too. Just trying to weigh all options available.

See what I found out via the following links and IRCC's Twitter handle. Take note of references to the statutes.

Of course, you cannot do your landing formalities in Quebec.

Yes it has a validity of one month. But that is enough time to go through all the practice tests if you dedicate atleast 2 hours a day for two weeks.

IELTS Update people:

L= 8.5
R = 9
S= 7.5
W = 7.5.

Advice - Please pay for the full version of the "Road to IELTS" app. It helped a loooooooot! By the time you are done practising all the sample tests, you will be familiar with the structure of the questions, especially for reading and listening.

@All. Almost all the PNP programs require you to have an express entry profile before you apply. Meanwhile, in the course of joining the EE pool, you have more points if you already have a PNP. PLEASE HOW DOES ONE GET A PNP TO BOOST YOUR SCORE USING THE CRS TOOL?
