Politics › PDP Governors Condemn NNPC, Cbn’s Management Under Buhari by NwaNimo1(op): 7:46am On Jun 15, 2021 |
The governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have condemned the way top government agencies like the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have been managed under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. The governors, under the aegis of the PDP Governors’ Forum, said the agencies have been run with complete disregard to true federalism and against the interest of the Nigerian people. They also mentioned others like the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Federal Inland Revenue Services, the Nigerian Customs Service. These are the agencies that bring in huge revenue to the Nigerian government. The governors said NNPC’s operations, for instance, have been so “opaque”. The PDP governors made their position known in a communique issued on Monday after their meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. According to the communique, the governors “decried the recent NNPC’s decision not to make its statutory contributions to the Federation Account, thereby starving the States and Local Governments and indeed Nigerians of funds needed for employment, development and general wellbeing”.NNPC, the governors said, is bound by the Nigerian Constitution to pay the proceeds of sale of petroleum into the Federation Account for onward sharing to the three tiers of government. They said the NNPC rather prefers to use its discretion to decide “how much to spend, how to spend it and how much to remit to the Federation Account, contrary to the letters and even the spirit of the 1999 Constitution.”https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/467823-pdp-governors-condemn-nnpc-cbns-management-under-buhari.html |

Politics › Ben Ayade’s Commissioners, Aides Reject APC, Abandon Offices In Cross River by NwaNimo1(op): 7:27am On Jun 15, 2021 |
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State seems to be on his own after his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as many of his Commissioners, Special Advisers, Assistants and other political appointees have abandoned their offices. It was gathered that various offices and Ministries of the top appointees were empty. Some staff working with some of the appointees told DailyPost that their bosses said they cannot work under Gov Ayade/APC-led government. “My bosses had said openly that they cannot work under Gov Ayade-led APC government, hence they have to abandoned their offices. “Most of those who defected with him said, they will come back to PDP during the elections. “It’s only that they have nothing doing for now, hence they went with him. When the chip is down, they will decide. “Gov Ayade will be shocked because more people will abandon him. He has no structure on ground,” they claimed. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the State Primary Management Board, Hon Wilfred Ina has resigned from his appointment. He said, “As an ethical politician and a firm member of the PDP with a clear understanding of the party’s core vision and mission for our dear country and who has enjoyed several privileges under the party, I cannot afford to jump boat to another party which ideologies do not align with and which views are widely considered by Nigerians as not being democratic and innovative enough to move our country to her expected destination. “However, having the opportunity to serve in the Board has helped broadened my experience in governance and will be readily available to more opportunities that can help us build a better Cross River State in the future. “I sincerely thank Your Excellency for the wonderful opportunity to serve and extend my warmest regards.” https://www./2021/06/15/ben-ayades-commissioners-aides-reject-apc-abandon-offices-in-cross-river/ |

Politics › Osinbajo: Nigeria Will Be OK If Things Work Well In Lagos by NwaNimo1(op): 7:20am On Jun 15, 2021 |
Amid worsening insecurity and secessionist agitations, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured Nigerians that Nigeria will be OK if things work well in Lagos.
He also noted that the current challenges affecting the country required proactive leaders prepared to bring Nigerians together.
In a statement on Monday in Abuja, Mr Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, said the vice president expressed this view in Lagos during a courtesy visit to the palace of Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Lawal.
The traditional ruler was celebrating his first coronation anniversary.
Mr Osinbajo commended Mr Lawal for being a leader to people of diverse socio-ethnic backgrounds.
He stated, “Our country needs all the leaders, the best leaders, the most proactive leaders, leaders prepared to bring the country together.
”Lagos is a microcosm of Nigeria. Everybody is here. If things work out well here, things will be okay in the country.
“I am sure your role here is that of someone who brings together communities, not just Yorubas, but everybody. And I can see that from your choice of chiefs, you have gone to other parts, and I think this is the attitude of great leaders.”
The vice president prayed for a successful reign on the throne for the traditional ruler.
He pointed out that the monarch’s quality of leadership would determine the kingdom’s progress.
“You should know that you are always in my prayers because I believe that your role is crucial not just for the development of this state but for the whole country.
“Today, you cannot relegate traditional rulers because of the exposure and education of those who occupy that position,” Mr Osinbajo further noted.
Also, in an interview with journalists at the palace, Mr Osinbajo said the future of Iruland was bright with a traditional ruler like Mr Lawal.
“I have known the Oniru for quite some time now; he is somebody who I have a great deal of respect for, and I know that the future of this community is bright with the Oniru.
“He is not just someone who is thoroughly educated but a visionary. He is someone who sees the future and is ready in ensuring that he brings the future in a very short time,” Mr Osinbajo added. https://gazettengr.com/nigeriall-be-ok-if-things-work-well-in-lagos-osinbajo/
