A Federal High Court in Lagos State has discharged and acquitted Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta North) of a N322 million money laundering charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, held on Friday that the EFCC failed to prove the elements of the offences for which it charged Nwaoboshi.

Aneke also discharged Nwaoboshi’s two companies – Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd – on the same ground.

He held, among others, that the prosecution’s case collapsed because “bank officials were not called to testify.”

Recall that the defendants were arraigned in 2018 before Justice Mohammed Idris, who was later elevated to the Court of Appeal.

They were then re-arraigned before Justice Aneke on Oct. 5, 2018.

In the 2-count charge marked FHC/L/117C/18, the anti-graft agency alleged that the defendants committed the offence between May and June 2014, in Lagos State.

Nwaoboshi was said to have purchased a property described as Guinea House, Marine Road, in Apapa Lagos.

Teenager, 16, arrested on suspicion of raping his own mum in Gran Canaria after she alerted cops to sex attack

The 16-year-old has been remanded to a secure young offenders’ institution pending an ongoing criminal probe led by a judge at a youth court in the capital Las Palmas.

Police confirmed yesterday they had held the youngster on Tuesday evening. His mum is understood to have alerted the authorities.

Unconfirmed local reports said the teenager is claiming he remembers nothing about the alleged sex attack because he was under the effects of drugs at the time.

He spent his first night in custody at a centre called La Montaneta in Gran Canaria.

He is set to be taken to a secure young offenders’ institution called Valle Tabares on the neighbouring island of Tenerife in the coming hours.

Canarias 7, the local newspaper which first reported on the shocking case, said the unnamed teen has been put on suicide watch. His nationality has not been revealed.

A spokesman for Spain’s National Police force in the Gran Canaria capital Las Palmas confirmed: “A teenage minor has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

“The arrest took place late on Tuesday.”

A well-placed source added: “The alleged victim is the boy’s mum. She alerted police.”

A youth court in Las Palmas has confirmed a minor suspected of committing a serious sexual assault was remanded to a secure youth detention centre yesterday/on Wednesday.

The rape is understood to have happened at a property in the Gran Canaria capital Las Palmas.
