I Believe President Of Nigeria Of Igbo Extraction Will Be A Reality – Femi Adesina Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina has expressed his belief that President of Nigeria of Igbo extraction is a reality in the country. ![]() Receiving a delegation of Igbo Friends and Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation, that felicitated with him on the conferment of the National Honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), by President Buhari, Adesina said that he has always been passionate about Igbo people producing the Nigerian President. “At the Sun Newspapers, I used to write about the Southeast and the need for a President of Igbo extraction and what the people of the area needed to do to achieve it. I know that it would be a reality in this country.” ![]() He said that the country stands to benefit more when all the components of it unite in confronting the ills besetting the land rather than sectionalising it. “I am very happy to have you as my guests. It gives me great joy when I receive visitors from other parts of the country. One of you is from Benue (State) and others are from the Southeast. “It shows the brotherhood in us; Nigeria is one country, indivisible. “You have demonstrated it by coming to congratulate me for the National Award. I took two chieftaincy titles (Nwanne di Namba from Mmaku, Enugu State, and Ugomba of Isieketa, in Abia State), because of where they came from; to show that we are really one.” This was even as the leader of the delegation, Rev. Austin Ify Epunam (JP), who doubles as President of the SweetHome Africa and National Champion of Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora (OCI) Foundation, said that he was excited for the well merited honour bestowed on the Presidential spokesman. He said that OCI Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit and non-political organisation established with the aim of breaking down barriers to the attainment of excellence. “I have always followed your write ups, especially about President Buhari way before the elections that brought him to power during your days at the SUN. I enjoy your calmness while dealing with individuals and issues. You are a problem solver. “We should look at antecedents, the foundation of everyone before giving appointments. You were appointed spokesman, it’s God that sent you here and He will see you through, successfully,” Rev. Epunam said. Other in the delegation include Chief Basil Onuoha, Engineer Chijioke Ojukwu, Ikenna Onuzulike, Comrade Mcgoshen Onwunzo, and Luter Ikyobo. https://www.greenbreporters.com/news/i-believe-president-of-nigeria-of-igbo-extraction-will-be-a-reality-femi-adesina.html https://www.greenbreporters.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Femi-Adesina-Chief.jpg |
In order to rake in N10 million from his parents, a 23-year-old boy, Edward Okache, has arranged his abduction by some men in Ogun State. On Monday, police said Okache was nabbed with four others identified as: Asamoah Ernest, Isiah Uti, Ephraim Anyijor and charity Lukpata, whom he told to kidnap him. One Comfort Okache had earlier reported at the Mowe divisional headquarters via a phone call that his younger brother, travelling from Calabar to Lagos, had been kidnapped around Mowe area of Ogun State. According to the police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the kidnappers were demanding N10 million if the relatives wanted to see the boy alive. Upon the report, DAILY POST learnt that the DPO of Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, had mobilized the division’s tactical teams to the area. “Upon painstaking and enduring combing of the surrounding bush at Orimerunmu area, the victim was sighted in an uncompleted building with the duo of Asamoah Ernest, a Ghanaian, and Isiah Uti, where he was tied in both hands and legs,” Oyeyemi said. Police rescued the acclaimed victim and arrested the two suspects found with him. “But on getting to the station, the two arrested suspects made a shocking revelation that the so-called victim was the person who planned with them to kidnap him in order for him to extort money from his parents to invest in an online business,” it was explained. They had confessed further that the said Okache was introduced to them by Anyijor and Lukpata, who are also indigenes of the same Yala Local Government Area of Cross River as the victim, saying that they all are part of the planned kidnap of Edward Okache. Their confession, Oyeyemi stated, led to the arrest of Anyijor and Lukpata, adding that “they have all confessed to the commission of the crime.” The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the case be referred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution. https://dailypost.ng/2022/10/12/23-year-old-boy-fakes-own-kidnap-to-extort-n10million-from-parents/ |
The Court of Appeal on Wednesday fixed March 7, 2023, to hear an application filed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu. Mr Kanu is seeking to be joined in the appeal challenging the group’s proscription by the federal government. The IPOB leader, on September 5, 2022, filed the joinder application as an interested party on January 18, 2018, the judgement of the Federal High Court in suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/871/2017, that proscribed IPOB. Although a hearing in the application was scheduled for Wednesday, the appellate court did not sit, and the matter was fixed until March 7, 2023. Lead counsel for Mr Kanu, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, who filed the processes, said his client was appealing the trial court’s judgement, which was rendered without hearing from him. Mr Kanu, who expressed dissatisfaction with the judgement, has proposed challenging it on appeal. In his proposed grounds of appeal, he contended that the trial judge erred in law when he ruled that “The Attorney-General in his application ex parte exhibited documents showing the existence of a threat to national security by the Respondent/Applicant and I accordingly made the order. “By the order of 20th September 2017 prescribing the Respondent/Applicant organisation am of the firm view that the right of the Applicant to private and family life freedom of expression, right to peaceful assembly and freedom of movement have not been infringed upon. “I also hold that the Applicant’s right to a fair hearing has not been violated by the grant on the Exparte order.” On this ground, Mr Ume argued that the ex parte order of proscription of the appellant and its listing as a terrorist group violated the applicant’s constitutional right to a fair hearing. When the second respondent, consequent upon the said order declaring and proscribing the appellant as a terrorist group, arrested, detained, and is currently prosecuting the applicant on charges of terrorism and as a member/leader of the appellant on six (6) count charges solely predicated on the said order pending on appeal. Charging the applicant with the offences enumerated above, which are wholly predicated on the said ex parte order, and upon which the applicant was not on notice, violated the applicant’s constitutional rights. This includes, particularly, his right to a fair hearing. In addition, he stated that the trial court misdirected itself in law and thus occasioned a grave miscarriage of justice that has adversely affected the applicant. https://gazettengr.com/ipob-proscription-appeal-court-to-hear-nnamdi-kanus-application-march-7/ |

The Federal Government said it has targeted over 1.4m Nigerian for the second phase of the government Empowerment and Enterprises Program, GEEP, loan. Represented by Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, said, the program is in line with the Federal Government’s effort to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty. According to him “when President Muhammadu Buhari took over the mantle of leadership in 2015, over 70 percent of Nigerians were living at poverty level” “Out of concern and determination to change the negative narration, the president established the Social Intervention Program (SIP) under which a series of empowerment and intervention programs were initiated and implemented to tackle the challenges.” Mrs. Sadiya Faruq explained that the targeted beneficiaries in the second phase will receive N50,000 each as a loan to enhance their small-scale trade. “Over 6,000 beneficiaries have already been accredited in Jigawa State as beneficiaries of the GEEP program,” she said.
