Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Ikot Ekpene, has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Edidiong Pius Ototi to death by hanging for killing his father, identified as late Mr. Pius David Ototi.

Edidiong Ototi, during his confessional statement at the Police Headquarters Ikot Akpan Abia admitted killing his 60-year-old father on November 18, 2018, and buried him inside a pit toilet because he is a wizard.

The presiding judge, Justice Augustine Odokwo, delivered his judgment on the murder case yesterday after finding the accused and a native of Ikot Akwa in Obot Akara Local Government Area, guilty of the offence.

Justice Odokwo ruled that the offence is punishable by death, under section 326 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Akwa Ibom State 2000.
Odokwo, submitted that the prosecuting team from the State Ministry of Justice was able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused person actually committed the murder.
He who was clad in black with a sentencing cap held that “Ototi should be hanged by the neck until he dies” and prayed to God to have mercy upon his soul.

Justice Odokwo, in a one-hour judgment, said, Ototi had no right under the law to take the life of his 60-year-old father, whom he accused of being responsible for the untimely death of his two grandchildren.

Edidiong Ototi had before his sentence on Monday in the Courtroom, while citing some Bible portions, begged the Judge to forgive him and to tamper justice with mercy.

I agree it is mainly Igbos alone that hate Osinbajo but not for the reason you adduce.

Obi was not on the scene in 2015. Namadi Sambo was VP to GEJ then. Igbos still gave them 95% of their votes despite the fact that no core Igbo man was on that joint ticket.

It is about hatred for Yorubas. Pure and simple. In Nigeria, a VP always has a strong chance of succeeding a President supportive of his ambition.

This is what Igbos fear. Osinbajo replacing Buhari in 2023. They simply don't want Yoruba as President and this is why they alone are the biggest attackers of strong Yoruba candidates like Tinubu and Osinbajo.

Dr. Sani Abdullah Shinkafi, leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Zamfara State has accused APC leaders in the State of offering 56 million naira to bandits to refuse the release of Jangebe abducted girls.

He said that their aim was to sabotage the peace effort of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Shinkafi, who was the 2019 governorship candidate of APGA in Zamfara State, made the allegation during a press briefing.

“I, therefore, challenge politicians from both the ruling and opposition parties to subject their telephone numbers to security checks since I am confident that the story that will come out of that process would be shocking,” he said.

According to him, the security checks on the personal telephones of the selected politicians should be from 25th of February to the time when the girls were released.

Continuing, Shinkafi said that some APC members in Zamfara State were desperate to ensure that Matawalle failed in his commitment to transform the state, pointing out that security operatives needed to be active in curtailing the insecurity situation affecting the country.

He urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used as stooges for burning down Nigeria by some desperate and selfish politicians, advising them to focus more on building the nation.

Shinkafi also called on the government to come up with an initiative that will help in empowering the youth by creating job opportunities for them.

The Northern Governors’ Forum has described Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as as a patriotic Nigerian, who had combined character, professionalism and pragmatism in handling national issues.

In a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, the Chairman of the forum, Gov. Simon Lalong of said the Vice President has exhibited high level of faith and loyalty to the nation and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Lalong said that Osinbajo had continued to give his best to the success of the Government and the upliftment of
Nigerians.

“As Northern Governors, we have enjoyed tremendous cooperation of the Vice President who give us a listening ear at individual and collective levels and engage us on how to tackle the challenges of our region and the nation.

“Among other things, we cherish his leadership of the National Livestock Transformation Programme (NLTP), which seeks to usher Nigeria into the threshold of modern livestock business, capable of ending the negative consequences of open grazing in the country.

“We assure the Vice President of our continued collaboration as he supports the President to deliver his promises to the people,” he said.

Lalong wished the Vice President well while urging him to continue mentoring and supporting young Nigerians, in the area of law where he has vast experience as a Senior Advocate, Former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as a Professor of Law.

Kwara State government has again announced the extension of the closure of 10 Mission Secondary Schools in Ilorin , the state capital.
A statement released early on Monday morning and signed by Mrs Kemi Adeosun , Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development said that the schools should remain closed because of security reasons.

Recall that the government shut the 10 schools belonging to some Christian Missions in the state on February 19 , 2021, following a crisis on the wearing of Hijab by Muslim female students who are attending the schools.

The government had earlier said that it approved the wearing of Hijab in all government grant - aided public schools in the state and directed that the schools be reopened today ( Monday , March 8 , 2021)

The government statement read , “Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development wishes to inform members of the public that the 10 government schools where the use of hijaab is disputed will remain shut until a later date .

“This decision has been taken for safety reasons .
“A statement by the Permanent Secretary , Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development , Mrs Kemi Adeosun , listed the schools to include C& S College Sabo Oke , ST . Anthony College , Offa Road , ECWA School, Oja Iya , Surulere Baptist Secondary School , Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam, CAC Secondary School Asa Dam road, St . Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke , St . John School Maraba , St . Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale , and St . James Secondary School Maraba.

“The government , therefore , directs school children and teachers in the affected schools to remain at home until the contrary is announced . The government remains committed to fairness, pluralism , and respect for the law and rights of every citizen at all times .

The Presidency has described as fake news the reported fire incident in Aso Rock Villa, the seat of the Nigerian government.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday, dismissed the report, saying there was no fire breakout inside the Presidential Villa.

He, however, stated that on March 6, a fire broke out burning shrubs between the outer wire fence and walls surrounding the Villa, ”precisely in the area between the Villa and the Barracks, towards Asokoro.”

The presidential aide revealed that the incident recorded no casualties in terms of human life or property.

According to him, the cause of the incident is being investigated by the Federal Fire Service.

The statement read in part: ”People in the country and even abroad have been expressing concerns over reports of a fire incident in Aso Rock Villa, the seat of the Nigerian government.

”I would like to clarify that there was no fire inside the Presidential Villa.

”In the evening of Saturday, March 6, a fire broke out burning shrubs between the outer wire fence and walls surrounding the Villa, precisely in the area between the Villa and the Barracks, towards Asokoro.

”The fire, as being speculated, might have started from a passerby dropping a burning cigarette.

”The Federal Fire Service will ascertain the reason for it when they complete their investigation.

”It suffices to say that this bush fire, which started and ended outside the perimeter walls of the Villa, was seamlessly contained by fire stations of the State House and the one nearby from the Federal Fire Service.

”No loss of life, no loss whatsoever to building and property was recorded.

”We thank well-meaning Nigerians for expressed concerns.”
