freecocoa: Lol, my bad if I implied its an igbo identity, I just meant most igbo people know how serious the osu issue ish.fine... Fine. *shrugs* you can't blame a boy for trying to prove a point Look through the eyes of an osu and tell me what you see. ![]() |
freecocoa: I don't see how twin killing can be compared to this but then, its your choice.hmmm... I beg to disagree though. I'm not igbo, but I think it's rather weird to imply that the osu caste system is central to igbo identity. It isn't... Twin killing violates the right to life. Osu caste violates the right to dignity, right to own property (in some cases), and maybe others I cannot connect yet. You are right. It's not the same as twin-killing. It's worse. I know I'm an outsider. ![]() |
ogugua88: It's so sad. And ridiculous.obviously, religion has no effect whatsoever on the lives of many who profess it. What's more, some can argue (with Bible verses) why discrimination is necessary. |
ogugua88: I hope you're not trying to compare hereditary illnesses, which can be detected via procedures, with ancestors pointing at someone and calling him or her an osu based on what ancestors may have done decades ago.unfortunately there isn't much of a difference when it comes to traditions in some parts of Africa. The ancestors say so, therefore it is that way. Those affected are usually rendered too powerless to fight it. Those with the power to fight it do not care, since they are unaffected. The rest who care, are outsiders who have no say in the matter. |
freecocoa: Lol, my sister its not as easy as y'all seem to think.hmmm... I get. |
freecocoa: Speak ya mind dear.ok, two things on my mind. First is... I STILL HAVEN'T FORGIVEN ONE OLD WOMAN THAT TRIED TO CONVINCE MY MOM THAT GIVING HER CHILDREN MEAT AND EGG WOULD MAKE US THIEVES. ![]() Ok, the other thing on my mind is... WHY CAN'T YOU? |
ItsModella: I think their offsprings have to offer some kind of sacrifice to become Nwadiana again, I'm not too sure.alright, thanks. I'd try to find out more. Some aspects of our traditions really suck sha. When I speak up against some at times, people look at me and say crap like "this one has been lost to the white man's culture..." "Too much foreign movies..." "So the white man is always right ehn?" . Surprisingly, even some supposedly learned people have that mentality too. I kinda understand when people choose to go with the crowd. Fear of reproach from fellow humans can be strong at times. But God knows I no send those silly traditions sha. Those gods have long died, why do they still have human belongings? Mtscheeew! |
freecocoa: I cannot marry an osu(may I never find myself at such crossroads, amen). ![]() |
ItsModella: Because they became properties of the gods and nobody wanted to associate himself with properties of the gods.by property of the gods, is it objects of human sacrifice? Why can they not partake in many things that others can? If they offered themselves willingly, why can't their offspring just opt out? I'm asking cos the way people talk about it, it seems they are somewhat lower humans, having little or no worth at all. It's terrible anyone would be discriminated that way. |
ItsModella: Osu are those people who offered themselves up to the gods. Many did so for the sake of protection.so why are they stigmatised? Don't get upset at the questions o. Got more sef. Just never had anyone willing and able to answer them. |

em... Thanks. I still don't understand it though. Viv's explanation makes it sound like some sort of slavery. At what point did they get "owned" by "us" or "the gods"? Why? ![]() |
Na wa o. Once asked a friend about this ish and he flatly denied it's 'modern' existence. Realising the opposite is somewhat shocking. What did the people do to be outcaste? Either no one mentioned it, or, I missed it. |
This is sad... ![]() |
Br3nd4: Shey you nor fit greet aunty again abi? na to dey shout Florida anyhow anyhowwhere the auntie? ![]() |

Florena Shey you know I'm not happy with you? |
I dunno which is most annoying... The fact that Spain won 3-0 like I expected... Or the fact that they did it with ease, toying with my Eagles throughout... Or the fact that Ideye Brown thinks his role is to miss chances... Or that Gambo ram! ![]() |
Page 200? Hmmm... Brenda come talk wetin you put for the thread o. Good evening friends. |
qhiwegh: Never say never. Last Confed Cup, the USA beat Spain 3-0.It was 2-0 bro. |
Saint Chukz: He is alleged to have predicted a humiliating bashing of our Super chickens ; 8-0 in favour of the spanish La furia Roja team.that's not true. It's just people preparing the framework for another TBJ bashing. |
Nigeria 0-3 Spain I wish Naija would score (and even win) sha, buh our boys are too wasteful to be trusted. |
