Health / Re: My Parents Are HIV Positive by Obasempiree(m): 6:33pm On Jun 09
Frost124:
Good day nairalanders, thank God this site is a faceless forum... Few weeks ago my dad told me he is HIV positive, when he told me I was disappointed but I made sure I didn't show it and I encouraged him... Him and my mother has been sick for a while and I certainly know he has transferred it to my mum.... My dad was very promiscuous when he was younger even after he married my mom he was still promiscuous. I am the only child and I have been footing the bills for their medical cares I am just 26 years old and I have spent so much and there is more spending still to come.... My father only told me, my mother is not aware of her health status all she thinks it's just a normal sickness happening to her. I have no one to talk to, I don't trust any friends because I believe when I tell them, they will certainly spread the news and you know the stigmatization against HIV patients, it's not good... I am frustrated, depressed and financially drained, sometimes I stay in my room and cry.... To avoid thinking, sometimes I just drink some alcohol... This issue has been in my heart for several weeks I just had to put it on Nairaland to ease my pain. My father just called me today that my mom has been admitted to the hospital, she was too weak to even walk.... Another spending and I am running out of cash, don't know what to do anymore. It wouldn't be this severe if they found out earlier, it's almost late. May God help me and my parents.
Really sorry about all you are going through brother, My best advice, look for a way and suggest to the hospital where your mum is admitted to run a HIV test so that she can start treatment. Its best to do that to save the live of your mother, also you have to be strong for them and do the best you can, your parents can live on HIV for a very long time if they start treatment early. May God see you through.

In this video I demonstrate why you should jump straight to PHP, at least have a taste of it before another thing immediately after learning and getting comfortable with HTML. There is no need for waiting till you have mastered JavaScript. In fact PHP is like HTML 2.0. I would have written it but I am not good at teaching with writing, I am only good at teaching with my mouth, not with fingers.

App and web development make up a fundamental part of the IT industry, though they are quite similar but different. As someone who has developed both in the last 4 years, i would say apps are far more complex than web but offers more opportunities due to lack of saturation compared to web.

Would you rather be an app or web developer.

Education / Re: Lecturer: Certificates Will Make You A Miserable Job Seeker After Graduation by Obasempiree(m): 8:48am On Jan 16

The world is tilting but universities in Nigeria don't understand that.

In UK or us, you are allowed to work and study.

This work experience you get would make you ready even before being a graduate. You would even discover a lot of things and how the world truly works.

In Nigeria, study and not allowed to work because of ancient curriculum that has not invented anything meaningful except copying.

Tell me what happens when a student studies alone and comes out like a newbies to the world system.

In UK or US you already understand that if you don't work you won't chop. What stops a student from helping houses dispose refuse on weekends. In Nigeria lecturers will set class on weekend.

Make u na dey play.

Person say make we dey learn witchcraft when other countries dey try understand the whole galaxy and conquer it.
Very funny comment but facts. I didn't understand all these till I completed my masters online via distant learning in a school in the USA. I then discovered what I could I achieve if the African educational system allowed for flexibility during my bachelor's degree.

Programming / Re: Giving Up On Front End Development - 2024 Is Not Smiling by Obasempiree(m): 9:24pm On Jan 03
refsilva:
I am a Frontend Developer .. let me call myself intermediate; however, i haven't had any full-time role before. The only thing I have done is an internship, and throughout the internship, I was able to get some on the job training.

The journey hasn't been easy so far.. Looking back at everything i have invested well close to 500k on this web dev stuff, yet i haven't gotten a job yet

To me it seems like this tech of a thing is just another Gold rush that seem to go nowhere. The stuff is to me more like luck, and i am getting tired of the whole thing all together

You will see guys posting tech as a pathway to wealth, but is it really...

I was doing marketing jejely before jumping into Tech.. Now i'm soo soo jobless
I have submitted countless applications, yet no evidence.. Most won't even reply, and some will respectfully send a rejection.

I don't know if i should pivot to another thing or give up altogether... Cause this stuff isn't bringing money, and someone has to sort out oneself else one will end up marrying at 35..

What do you guys think about this? Are you earning any money off front-end... Please be realistic...

If you are, How do you do it, If you aren't, how are you juggling expenses?

Career / Re: 10 Strange Professions That No Longer Exist by Obasempiree(m): 7:39pm On Sep 18, 2023
Rapmoney:
There was a time when certain professions were in high demand, but as our society evolved and advanced, some of these professions became obsolete.

Moreover, with the aspect of ever-changing technology, many jobs that exist today are vastly different – or nonexistent – from those 10, 20, or 30 years ago.

So, what happened to all those old careers?

This list will discuss some of the strangest but back-then-necessary jobs that have disappeared.

You can mainly attribute the disappearance of many of these ways to make money to technological advances.

For example, modern bowling alleys have elaborate systems that collect balls and pins, so pinsetters are no longer necessary.

Likewise, with the spread of proper refrigeration, the cool job of ice cutters became a thing of the past.

This article will discuss ten strange professions that no longer exist.

Who knows, maybe you’ll learn about a job that your ancestors did before you were born.

1. The Human Alarm Clock
In the days before alarm clocks, people used to hire others to wake them up in the morning.

It may not seem complicated, but it was quite an essential job in the 1800s.

The “Human Alarm Clocks” or “Knocker Uppers” would often use long poles to tap on the windows of their employers or even shoot peas at the glass of their windows.

It may seem like an unnecessary job, but think about it, didn’t people back then need to wake up at certain times too?

After all, you could miss an important meeting or appointment if you oversleep.

Can you imagine having to pay someone to wake you up every morning?
This is why learning is important, very soon many jobs today will also be obsolete. Learn and evolve tech is taking over today. Maybe in a few years time:
1) data science/computerized data recording would completely replace accounting/accountants.

2) Lawyers might be replaced by advance robotic justice system.

3) airline pilots might be replaced by self flying planes.

4) Therapists might be replaced by artificial diagnostics intelligence.

5) etc and so on.

Just never stop learning/ evolving the world is moving really fast.

Started with BASIC while self studying in JSS2. QBASIC and IBM BASIC mostly. Them went to Uni and learned PASCAL. It was in uni that I fully understood all the BASIC I was typing all those years back. And it turned out very helpful. My first two programming courses were a breeze in uni. I was so good that my instructor referred people to me for "tutorials". In fact in my final exam for Programming II, I literally walked into the exam hall directly from the club from the night before. Half intoxicated and only just having enough time to brush, bathe and freshen up. Still got an A lol. Then I became too confident heading into Data Structures and Algorithm and got a very low B. By this time, OOP had become the trend so we switched to C++. It was brutal changing from Procedural programming to OOP. Still managed to use "sense" to get through that course. Got to DBMS and things hook. I could never fully understand the abracadabra that was SQL. Sure I can do basic SQL selects and all, but all those inner joins and more complicated stuff like 4NF normalisation and Backus-Naur Normalisation were just pure wizardry for me back then.

Edit: Also dabbled into Java. And still have some dreams of coming back to Java. But for now, I dey try see front. So it's mostly Linux bash files and some RPA programming I do. A sprinkling of Excel Macros if I absolutely have to
You sound like an early genuis lol.
