Good day guys, I first heard about nairaland nairaland in 2012 and joined around 2019/2020 this platform has been a very helpful and awesome platform to me and to be honest i have met quite a number of people from nairaland, made some sales on some certain products, discovered some other topics/things I never believed existed.

I believe people can be very expressive here due to the anonymity of the platform. If u check through some threads here you will see some are as old as 2005/2006 with seun himself contributing to the growth of this platform.

This thread is opened to see the nairaland oldies , as well as the newbies it amazes me this platform has been existing for close to 7 years before I discovered it, I have always loved to surf the net alot right from time.

So guys when did u join/discover nairaland?

If you are reading this learn a tech skill before its too late if you dnt have one, there are non coding fields if coding is not your thing, this is the future right there

That was how one of my friend's wife wanted me to sleep with her, though she never for once opened up , but through her body language I can tell that was what she wanted.

This is me actually I'll be 27 this year and I realized I've been having difficulties in putting up with the lessons recently compared to past years when learning other skills.
I think the major cause is how one needs to meet up with some life obligations.

I started learning and wrote my first code @27 I really think it's different for everyone but I had a mindset of learning to code at all cost just like a terminator lol.

How did Accounting helped in shaping your programming or No help at all ?

Well accounting works on principles that make things work, programming is basically dsame whatever isn't right in the process wouldn't produce the desired output so that has helped me in a way. I tried to apply in accounting position once but they informed me I look more like a full transitioned tech guy than an accountant actually . I focus on programming full time now maybe I could build an accounting software sometime in the future no knowledge is lost.

If he/she has been showing you love long before today then it's all good, this day will pass too.

Ok I have never been to the us before but I know web development, app development, digital marketing are some of the most common and demanding tech fields. You can do ur own research as well.

For me I discovered its among the few careers were hard work and dedication still pay in the modern world.

Secondly your programming level/skill can be easily seen and rated, unlike other fields were every one go dey claim say de sabi, bu in reality na d opposite. Their is no room for argument.

Thirdly there is no hiding in this field, if u no sabi you will be exposed,etc. You cant hide behind any body.

Its not like other fields were some will go to club, drink and Bleep and still be better than the hard working ones. You you get?

Its 100% garbage in garbage out. One of the most honest professions.

Recruitment are 100% based on your proven abilities, not like other fields. No serious company go employ who no sabi, even if they do they will easily notice and fire d person

In summery i became a programmer because hard work pays here. As a hard worker I believe I a in the right place.

very true certs have little significance in tech industry, what people/ clients want are people that can do the job i really love the field.

I was in accounting before and one day a guy sitting next to me at work who was a developer wrote a code in my presence to help me automate a task I was doing which was very laborious and repetitive, this was when I said to myself coding is for me. Though the journey was not easy as a self-taught I had to take a three year degree course overseas and that was how I was able to get a good understanding of coding and now I develop complex ASP.NET / .Net Core and RESTful API applications.

Just download Git and open Git bash the commands are the same, there are tons of youtube videos online too practice with a repository

For me it was playstation, someone stole mine and I was informed about emulators , I was in secondary school then, I was curious about it so I started learning C++ and MFC, nothing entered my head but it taught me alot about Programming and since then I have been coding, and during that period Programming wasn't a popular thing, I just wanted to see if I could build a plugin for emulators then it was ePSXe and this was the site then

Is it advisible to learn it here and get certified (will it be valued abroad) or should I wait and learn it over there and get certified?.

And to think I studied computer science in school

Start learning as fast as possible u can even start today if you have a laptop, it requires commitment and dedication but atleast bit by bit so that even if you want to get recertification abroad it won't be so difficult. The most important thing in coding/programming while learning is building that's what makes you a programmer not even the certification.

Who uses GitHub.com ? I was trying to learn how to use git lately I discovered the command inputs were not working properly since I was using windows and the tutorial course I was following we're using apple which operates under Linux is think, I tried googling equivalent command but I can only find limited information. Any help on how I can learn git on windows command will help thanks...

As a freelancer what to charge varies from customers, timeline, and project needs.

for Wordpress, Opencart, Magento, Silverstripe, Joomla and Drupal... I charge between $400 - $800


for Wix, Shopify. I charge between $750 - $1500

for Custom development: it's between $1,500 - $3,500

for custom server setup, VPS configuration, relay email server configuration: it's between $200 - $750


Depending on what you requirmemt is, the aforementioned prices are set to change ooo...

I've actually submitted a quote of $12,000 to a client. Problem was he was bidding for $4,000 as what he can afford. Well, the project is still pending until he gathers enough resources to fund it.

In rare cases, I've actually done a website as low as 40k... (you'll know how quick this will be)

The more money a client pays the more attention I pay to the project. That's called Value for Money.

But the client don't come everytime ooo, so what I do when I don't have any client is, I learn a new thing. You see... Still expanding my Horizon.


FYI: 99.9% of my clients are Nigerians

Yeaa that's how the website was programmed it wasn't so difficult though, just approve or delete the comments before it appears on the site to help control spam.

Good day guys, as a web developer myself i would say i did not really love coding at all till about 3 years ago.

I studied accounting and finance in school but after my Nysc, I volunteered to be part of my friends start up entertainment website as a web administrator on the back end to reply messages from support, approve comments and make modifications.

I actually started to develop interest because prior before then i never knew how a website worked from back end, i was just amazed lol and developed interest from there.

One year later in 2020 i made a decision to teach myself how to code starting from html, css and then proceeded to JavaScript and php though i only work with JavaScript for now as i was advised to master one programming language before moving to another.

It has been fun, challenging and cool since then, i have done a couple of projects for clients also.

So guys what really attracted you to coding/ programming?

To be sincere, web development is becoming stale....so much competition there....
With a domain and Hosting, I earn too little because there r others who will even pay less.
5k is within the gain range after deducting domain and hosting

Thats way too small maybe you should try using Nigerian hosts or hosts that give you the option to pay in naira.
