Politics › Re: Ambode Orders The Closure Of Pig Farms Located In Residential Areas, Lagos by obi58: 8:52am On Jun 09, 2016 |
codemaniacs: In agriculture, its about the hectares of land and not the location.
Why can't the govt ban people from building residential houses near farms.
The same thing happened in ikorodu, from fadeyi to lagos island used to be filled with palm trees hence the name "PALMGROOVE".
Then Nigeria was one of the largest exporters of palm products.
Govt needs to protect and improve agriculture not kill it. My thoughts exactly..... This is just sheer idiocy from government. We are talking about people's livelihoods here!!! Is government planning on providing an alternative location for these farms to be moved to? Everyday we keep talking about agriculture and job creation(or job scarcity) and still we have cases like thus where baby is being thrown away with the bath water ? What the government should be doing is monitoring these farms more stringently and holding them accountable to higher safety standards especially as they are in residential areas. Should they fail to comply, they should then be fined or sanctioned and in extreme cases of default, sealed off as a biohazard. |
Business › Re: Trade Deficit: More Job Loss Likely In Banks (Fall Out Of Nda's Vandalism) by obi58: 7:18am On Jun 07, 2016 |
deenee: People still fail to understand that PMB is not the reason for the recession that we are facing.
The trade deficit is as a result of several factors namely we are basically an import crazy nation of people who import every thing that we consume even basic essentials. Secondly the revenue from oil that would have created a buffer for the deficit is also seriously under threat from volatile oil prices and the evasive militants in the Niger Delta region.
The implementation of TSA is a one of the great things to happen to the banking industry as now banks will no longer depend on government funds but rather be compelled to lend to the real sector. Also TSA has helped reduced corruption in some ministries and govt agencies. Before TSA some govt agencies had over 300 accounts in various banks and could not even keep track of thier money trail hence making very easy for funds to be siphoned.
Until we begin to reduce our dependence on import for basic consumables such as rice and even toothpick, diversify from over reliance on oil revenue and increase local production we will always continue to be in this problem.
Instead of coming here to blame PMB why not contribute our own quota. For me I consciously patronize made in Nigeria products now even for basic essentials that I use at home that way I am also helping some struggling business stay afloat.
I mean why should I go an buy a imported nivea body Cream for men when I can use pears baby lotion made in Nigeria? After all na lotion. Infact pears even has a better scent sef.
We need to drive the change we all want in our little space for things to really CHANGE in this country.
Taxation is also an area why people need to change. How many small and even big business pay correct taxes to the govt. The UK depends soley on tax as a source of revenue.
I think I an starting to deviate from the topic. My empathy for those who has lost their jobs and God bless Nigeria. Master simple question....if you starve banks of float from idle funds now moved to TSA. Where do they now get the needed liquidity to lend to the real sector |
Business › Re: Trade Deficit: More Job Loss Likely In Banks (Fall Out Of Nda's Vandalism) by obi58: 7:12am On Jun 07, 2016 |
Emekamex: Massive corruption in the banking sector has made our banks lazy and lose the primary focus of banking which is intense marketing and proper investments. It is time for our banks to restrategize and return to main focus of banking. Olodo! What do you know about banking? Banks are shrinking because of the implementation of the TSA which is starving them of the much needed liquidity for doing business. As a result, lending rates have gone up making it more expensive to borrow for business That combined with the fx imbroglio which has made foreign trade (eg fuel importation) more difficult for banks has severely shrunk their income lines. Add to that another crazy government policy to totally eliminate commission on turnover COT have led banks into this precarious situation. |

Phones › Re: SARS officers Arrested Me For having A Social Media (kik) App On My Smartphone by obi58: 4:49am On May 31, 2016 |
Samtoby: Like an hour ago, I was at the back sit of SARS vehicle with handcuffs in my hands. They said am a Yahoo boy for having a kik application on my smartphone.
I was traveling from Omu Aran to ilorin, I pressed up, wearing my blue Jean, T shirt, my newly bought African shaped neck chain and All stars sneakers. So the journey began and we passed the first police check point and few minutes after continuing the journey, we got to SARS people (at a junction in about entering Oke Onigbin town) and we were told to come down (all boys), I first feel scared but also I have nothing to be scared off cause I have the receipt for all my gadget with me, so I keep calm and answer his question perfectly. He check my pocket and found my two phones (Lumia 535 and Infinix Note 2), he check my bags and found my belongings (books, wires and my laptops), he asked if I have the receipt and I answered yes. Then he said I should unlock my phone (Note 2), I did and he start checking then he saw a social media app (KIK) on my phone, he asked if am a "game boy" and I said yes, all my mind was he is asking about video games because I have up to 20 games on my phone. He check other guys then told me to follow him, I did and he said "it's good that I don't lie", he asked my school and my name and I told him. Then from no where he said am a "Yahoo boy", the soul in me seems to left my body that moment, I realise am in big soup and I start swearing on everything that comes to my mouth. I deny his allegations then he start frowning and threat to destroy my career in school and that I will go to jail if I didn't confess, so I decided to come down to his level and ask how much to settle him, he said 20k, I started begging but he's desperate and then he called his boss, an old man, to my surprise he also lay the same allegations and all I can do is start begging and swearing am not a Yahoo boy.
After begging and rejecting their allegations, I was told to sit behind their vehicle, I did and they close the door on me while one of them keep saying they should handcuff me, I keep rejecting their allegations and then the guy earlier attempted to slap me right in the vehicle I sat in, he then decided to handcuff me from then. They start claiming they will destroy my life, that I agreed to been a Yahoo boy and then I started denying it again. I decided to keep shut and wait till my dad comes since we are not too far from home and I have signal to my brother (we both traveling together) to call my dad which he did, I waited and didn't talk to them anymore. Every cars passing were all looking at me right behind the vehicle, I felt embarrassed.
My dad came and they attended to him, they tell him what they said I am (yahoo boy) and that I have admit it, he knowing fully well who I am, told them that I am not and he knows fully what I do online. He told them that I am an importer and also work online as a freelance graphic designer. They said the app is for Yahoo boys and not app to import goods. I can't help but burst into tears because am presently embarrassing my dad along with me.
The boss then show my dad an app on his phone but my dad doesn't know anything about this stuff, the boss told me to explain what happened in front of my dad, I did and he ask why I have those apps on my phone, I explain am an importer and also an online person but he left and asked the first guy to attend to us. So my dad asked what the solution is since he knows they all want money, I didn't hear what goes next but he later gave them 2k after demanding for 5k, they removed the handcuff, gave my phone back to me and we left.
I have never experienced anything like this in my entire 20 years on earth, I only hear it but it happened to me today. It makes it my first time in their car or police car and first time of been in handcuff (which breaks my heart).
This is purely violation of human right and I regret that I have no evidence to follow this up. But never can I forget their faces on this earth.
***The app (Kik) is a social media app which I used to chat with a friend in Los Angeles, not a very common app in Nigeria but one of the most used app in USA making it the only social app to connect with her.
If this is what Nigeria has become (became), then it's a sad story.

Politics › Re: 5 Jonathan’s Mistakes Buhari Has Repeated by obi58: 4:44am On May 31, 2016 |
Deen77: PDP biggest mistake is Importation of petroleum products an essential commodities and Buhari is making the same mistake.
If trillion naira spend on importation and subsidies in last 5 years is put in our economy, today Nigeria will be great.
No nation can survive on importation.
Why can't we build refinery and refine locally instead of importing wasting our forex on importation of petroleum for 17 years now a country with crude? Oga.... Would any sane government import fuel if it could produce same domestically The 60% capacity production of the 3 refineries curre ntly is testament to the investment of the Jonathan administration and not the government of body language. If this government had any clue, they would have invested in building modular refineries which take much less time to set up (3-6 months) which will take us closer to self sufficiency in producing our fuelling needs locally. That is what a serious government would do. Ibe K means well but the guy has been speaking English without action. From the days of 86.5, we have been hearing him making promises of this and that he was doing to ensure fuel availability everywhere even to the talk of building strategic reserves. In the end what happened? After all the noise with DPR going about to enforce price on independent marketers, he eventually cut a deal with them and sold us out. Cheap emotional blackmail if you ask me. Buy at N145 if you want to see fuel. Very soon it will be buy at N200 if you want to see fuel. We are now the ones paying for the subsidy to the independent marketers and no longer the government. Even NNPC who can sell fuel much lower which would have been some comfort have been directed to tow the N145 line and maximize profit at the expense of the common man showing how anti-people this government is. And who can blame them when some troll or zombie will come here and still shout 'Sai Baba' when they are being taken to the cleaners and blame everything on past administrations ? |

In the midst of the economic reality, a budget of 6 trillion was passed. Now due to their poor cagist fx policies, they have shrunk import duties collection. Of course, like a true anti people congress that they are, their answer to this will be to raise taxes eg vat ( PS with rise in electricity tariff has power generation increased ) And now there is talk of custom calculating duties at 285/$ instead of the official rate which will lead to further inflation and further suffering for the common man. Instead of the mumu government subsidizing fertilizer to boost affordable food production they have chosen to stop subsidizing fertilizer sales. How then does the common man assess cheaper food either imported or domestically |

Politics › Re: Why Nigerians Won't Occupy Nigeria As Fuel Subsidy Removed by obi58: 10:04am On May 19, 2016 |
MORNDEW: WHY NIGERIANS WONT OCCUPY NIGERIA AS FUEL SUBSIDY IS REMOVED
Yesterday, the Internet was awashed with news of the Federal Government's removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit also known as fuel. This news came as a shocker to Nigerians and as a reason for some group of people (THE WAILING WAILERS) who does not want to move on with their life after the 2015 Presidential elections to justify their support for then President Goodluck Jonathan. Later that same day, the Government through its Minister for State for Petroleum released a statement that seems to not affirm or deny the news of subsidy removal.
Unlike the previous Government where Nigerians came out in mass to protest against subsidy removal, many Nigerians will not protest this one or only a few disgruntled elements who sees everything as politics or attach ethnic coloration to everything will do so. Below are some of the reasons why There would be no protest.
1. DUE CONSULTATIONS: Going by the statement released by the Minister for State for Petroleum Dr. Ibe Kachickukwu, the TUC, NLC and other stakeholders in Nigeria were duly consulted before taking this decision. Forget the threat by NLC they just want to make it look like they 've not failed Nigerians. The question is were they not represented in the meeting? What is their take on Saraki still occupying The Senate Presidency? What is their take on most of our universities on strike etc. Why is it that NLC only knows how to cry when it involves oil?
2. SINCERITY: Even the President's worst enemy knows he means well for Nigeria. They know whatever decision he takes is for the overall good of every Nigerian. Many will ask if the previous Government never meant well for the country? The answer lies on the characters and personalities of the two leaders and their stance on corruption and mismanagement. Many believed the former's Petroleum minister was corruption personified who said she was untouchable while the later is a man of proven integrity who will make judicious use of the proceeds from subsidy removal.
3. TACTFULNESS: Even till this moment, no one can say for sure that Petroleum subsidy has been removed. The government in their wisdom wants to go about it in the best possible ways as not to generate public outcry on the issue. The statement by the Minister proved that. The government knows the implications of removing fuel subsidy and has deviced the best possible ways out of it. Unlike the previous Government who woke up on January 1st when most Nigerians were still returning from Christmas and New year Celebrations and announced fuel subsidy removal.
4. FAITH IN THIS GOVERNMENT: Believe it or not there is an overwhelming belief in this Government. I dare anyone to conduct a sincere public opinion poll on their perception of this Government and you will be shocked on the percentage that will affirm their support for this Government. Forget some of the comments by some nitwits online who does not have grasp of economic issues and present economic woes but do so out of religious or ethnic sentiments that has kept them where they are. Most Prominent Nigerians are sympathetic to this Government this may be connected to their belief that this Government is still in its nascent stage and it's meaningless criticizing it this early.
5. UNCONSTRUCTIVE OPPOSITION: The present opposition in Nigeria are headless, directionless and has no moral right to criticize or call for civil disobedience because it's not in their modus operandi and has failed woefully when they were there. The present opposition led by uncouth, crass and crude Ayodele Fayose only flex their muscles when its religious and ethnic issues. Recently, the one who might have seen the issue as only affecting the South East or Christians just to create chaos in the land is answering to his involvement in money meant for arms purchase that was traced to his account. The other one who claims to be their media aide is busy looking for who to fight in the nearest night club tonight or spreading false news.
DIFFERENTIAL OIL PRICES: In 2012, When the previous administration removed fuel subsidy oil price was on the high side. Global oil market sold for over $90 per barrel as at January of that same year while today oil price is very much below $50. The powers that be made minimal or no significant impact on the lives of Nigerians in the mist of plenty why won't they be able to pay for Petroleum subsidy hence the occupy Nigeria during that time. Today, Sane Nigerians would wonder why they should involve themselves in meaningless protest when the current global oil price is nothing to write home about.

Instead of raising tariffs and imposing toll gates which would impose a higher tax burden on the common man, why not impose an environmental levy on multinationals and conglomerates?? Why is government so afraid of progressive taxation? Why should the common man be made to always subdidize the cost of governance? Electricity tariffs up by 60%, fuel prices up 68%, stamp duties introduced whilst no one is talking about cash handling charges or even property taxes! Dangote given a 30% tax rebate for years for an action that he could easily have written off as a PR expense!!! Ibime: It is not the job of private business to maintain infrastructure regardless of use.
They pay taxes which entitles them to use infrastructure to carry out their business. Govt benefits in so many ways such as taxes, employment and personal income taxes of the company employees.
It is Govt job to ensure that infrastructure is in place to attract private businesses You may have a point there. The government has set aside the largest ever provision for capital expenditure and even before we have begun to enjoy the benefits of this budget provision, we have started hearing of these kind of shady deals. Dangote and co whose businesses have a huge environmental footprint should be heavily taxed to provide solutions to these kind of problems their businesses create. They should also pay more tax than the common man. Even before disbursement of funds, Fashola has started talking of toll gates on major roads so I am totally unsurprised by this development. Instead of tax rebates or incentives to electricity companies to distribute meters in record time, the buffoon backed their tariff increase. Meanwhile power production is declining everyday |

Kachukwu came out openly to admit that NNPC could sell at way less than 145 but have chosen not to avoid diversion and instead would be reinvesting the extra funds made towards rebuilding the refineries. Let me now ask you a question.... If government right now is afraid to offer fuel at lower prices where would it get the courage to do this when domestic production goes up with the refineries working ? How then is the revival of the refineries going to be in the interest of the common man Should the government not be investing in increased monitoring to ensure the interests of its citizens are better protected? Should DPR not be strengthened to ensure stations sell at not more than 145 and in all stations meters actually dispense 1 litre as a litre |
