Politics / Re: Marketers Counter FG, Insist Fuel Subsidy Is Back by obi58: 3:23pm On Oct 11, 2023 |
I don't understand what the obsession is with whether or not subsidy is being paid or not. It's quite obvious that with the deregulation of the naira and the current economic headwinds in the global market that international oil prices will continue to rise. Any responsible government will do everything to protect its citizens from such impact. All those who clamoured for removal of subsidy and applauded the deregulation of the naira, it's been over 4 months since the new government implemented these policies and so far things have only become worse instead of better. Inflation is at record high levels, unemployment is so bad that NBS had to redefine same and the naira is at all time low. External reserves have tanked and national debt has doubled. Right now it's hard to justify the way the subsidy was removed. If the status quo had been maintained till we were able to get the refineries running I believe things would have been better. All the trillions which was supposed to be saved from removing subsidy cannot be accounted for as there is no economic impact of these savings at all. As for the independent marketers, believe them at your peril. They are only after their interests not that of the masses. December is fast approaching and they have started creating artificial scarcity to maximise their illegal income during this period. 5 Likes 1 Share |

olakraft: I wonder what university will issue you a PHD with this low level of reasoning. Unless you are saying that Nigeria is no longer deserving to be a nation there is no reason why NYSC should be jettisoned. My main issue with the programme currently is the high level of insecurity present around the country and the level of efforts by the government to secure the country. This is crucial for the continued success of the NYSC programme. That one year of service has broadened the horizons of so many youths who have lived all their lives in the shadow of their parents and cultural identity making them more rounded cosmopolitan and national citizens. Do you know how many corpers landed significant jobs and business opportunities by virtue of their postings? Some corpers have chosen to permanently settle at their place of posting due to the wealth they have generated in that location. Do you know how many corpers landed their significant others due to their one year service? Do you know how these interspatial postings have helped foster unity and disuade ethnicity and tribalistic tendencies? This has also helped in the transfer of knowledge and exposure to remote areas that wouldn't have experienced such developments if outsiders did not get posted there. We all know the impact of the missionaries in the development of education in Nigeria. 1 Like |

gabbytabby: As expected more rabble rousing and noise making. Stick to the listed topic and make your positions known if you truly have anything to offer... but we all know why you're here is not to contribute but to distract and detract by any means necessary. If you had anything to offer you would have since made an adult contribution to the listed topic but knowing what you are it's no surprise that you have reverted to your true level of looking for someone to attack. I understand your plight sha. You have to show your propaganda masters that you are working hard at Una nefarious targets. This is the last response you will get from me provided it is not on the subject of the listed topic. You can look for a fellow pig to grovel with going forward if you have nothing sensible to contribute. |

Its people of low intellect that resort to cheap insults instead of having rational discussions with clearly laid out points for others to either concur or differ to. gabbytabby: You should bury your head in shame for displaying your stupidly in Public. If you are earning 100 naira every month and no longer have to pay 70 naira for loan repayment is your disposable income not supposed to increase? Instead our external reserves have dipped and our external debt has spiked without any significant expenditure to justify this development. Instead people are getting poorer everyday and we are experiencing hyper inflation. Shame on you. 1 Like |

densiks: What if she was already in critical condition and would not have made it in time if she was moved? Have you thought about this possibility too? Hospitals are supposed to have emergency wards for a reason... Was she shot that a medical official was demanding a police report for? Of course thank God for social media because I'm sure that even if the hospital had CCTV the footage would have since been deleted. Simply put the hospital staff displayed a very callous and inhumane attitude to their fellow man and would still expect to be shown mercy and given help when they need it. 2 Likes |

I heard on radio that train tickets to Ibadan from Lagos are bought only using cash. Instead of using POS to ensure transparency and issuing dated printed tickets using a thermal printer they issue stock preprinted tickets. All these give room for corruption and should be immediately curtailed if the train service seeks to be efficient and remain profitable over time. |

plaindealer: Like I said it's obvious that you're bigoted and unwilling to reason like a rational being so continuing this conversation will be akin to arguing with a deranged individual. How do you know that the traders don't pay for waste disposal? Don't they pay taxes in the billions monthly to the government? Again I ask what services has LAWMA provided in this public space to demand payment? I hope you are not one of those keyboard cowards. Please air these your 'views' when next you are in Ladipo let's see what reactions you will get. |
Politics / Re: Lagos State Closes Ladipo Market For Environmental Offences by obi58: 6:23pm On Sep 29, 2023 |
plaindealer: From your clearly bigoted response it's evident that it would be difficult to have a rational conversation with you but I will try. Of course I will not demean myself to get into racist discussions. This is strictly about government putting necessary structures in place. So let's not make this conversation emotive but rational. In sane societies, people don't litter indiscriminately because there are waste receptacles everywhere. Also waste disposal agencies are up and alive to their responsibilities. Similarly people will pay for functional utilities like electricity over going to buy fuel to run their generators. It's just plain common sense. You won't see someone with toilet in his house go out to defecate outside. LAWMA was promulgated to provide waste disposal services which they have are clearly not doing. They are not alive to their responsibilities and should be held accountable for the heaps of refuse appearing everywhere. If you choose to punish Lagosians by depriving them of their source of daily income you also reduce income to the state as well as create more societal problems when desperate people now resort to crime. How shameful! |

Politics / Re: Lagos State Closes Ladipo Market For Environmental Offences by obi58: 11:24am On Sep 29, 2023 |
olakraft: Let me ask you a simple question.... Will inhabitants in a house with a toilet go out to the bush to defecate? Will people go out to dispose of waste indiscriminately if proper waste bins are provided everywhere and same emptied periodically by the relevant government agency? So please tell me what LAWMA has been doing to keep these markets clean? Instead they choose to bully the shop owners and cripple their source of daily income. Charity begins at home. The problem is with LAWMA. If they are active in the discharge of their duties we won't be having these developments. Government should be for the people and is supposed to be a service. People will happily pay for functional services. This is the truth. I repeat it is only the foolish that will leave a perfectly functional waste bin to dispose of refuse indiscriminately and if such offenders are identified then they should be punished appropriately. |

Politics / Re: Telcos Plan Different Tariffs For Calls, Data In States by obi58: 7:56am On Sep 29, 2023 |
The issues are: 1. States that charge multiple taxes (like Lagos). 2. The plan to pass it on to the subscribers as if they are the ones who implemented the multiple taxes. 3. I may be wrong but I have not heard of this practice in other countries before. Yes there is a problem for the Telcos but instead of taking the cheap way out to punish the people the problem of multiple taxes should be revisited and urgently. 4 Likes |
