@ George D, Just procured a Strong 2.4m pan dish from Alaba internatonal today. Will be needing your help next week during the installation and tracking. PS: wanted to do it after my exam but just couldn't resist the mouth watering line-up of MBC programmes this time around when I visited their site last night. Will post the price at the other thread. |
@olofofo, Is it on the C band or KU band that we used to get it? pls. pst freq. thanks. |
@Jayron, I thought u already have a 2.4m. where is it facing. @ George, I would have taken this to the AE thread but I want to thank you specially for your encouraging words on the inverter stuff. After the exhuastive explanation last Aug/Sept. on the subject, I went back to where I kept all my junks and found an old 650va Superb UPS i got in 1997 which suprisingly was still working. The special thing about the UPS is that it had a soft touch button which I can press once to stop the beeping sound expecially when there is enough juice left in the battery. So I dusted it up and got myself a 100AH Deep Cycle battery for N24,000.00 and used the money meant for the inverter to get myself a 50AMP battery chargerthat I got for 20K which till date I still use. Funny enough after a week of acquisition, the transformer in my area in Ogudu Lagos gave up since Oct 28 last year. The battery and the UPS has been my saving grace as the entire str. is still left in the dark. Every morning I will just disconnet the battery from the UPS, put it in the trunk of my car and straight to the office where I have kept the charger since I bought it. I get about 5hrs of electricity from 7pm to 12am with a 100watts TV, 25 watts decoder, 50 watts standing fan and a 20 watts energy bulb b4 the UPS starts to beep and then I put every thing off except the fan which I control the amount of current that it consumes with the help of a light deemer. This sustains cool breeze for me and my family till morning before leaving for work. I felt so silly not realising that I had all I needed to prevent the burning heat at night. Like they say bro. "information is knowledge and knowledge is power". I spend about N500.00 a week to run my big gen by weekends for ironing and other heavy power needs including charging my battery and running 2 freezers. Thank u again and again. This may look too explanatory but I know that some pple(s) in the house will be motivated to thread thesame part as me knowing that it may not cost an arm and a leg. Long live FTA and AE forever. |
Hi George D, Its been long I posted on this FTA thread that is because I have a professional exam. coming up by mid Feb. coupled with my work as a Personal Assistant. I hope to acquire and install my 2.4m pan dish for nilesat after the exam. My questions is what is POLAR as just stated above. Pictures or diagrams will be appreciated. Thanks. |
SOLD to a non Nairalander thank you. |
@jahofa, Give me a call on 08023959473 so that we can discuss. or chart me up on petokonji@yahoo.co.uk cheers. |
@loidee, Yes the car has been sprayed. After 2 years of driving around Lagos traffic a car will never be thesame. Note that it was not given real panel beating just some little dents were fixed and sprayed for this sale. The light was broken about a week ago. If u can add 40K to that amount, the car will be urs. u can call me on 08023959473 to arrange for inpection if u are OK with 520K |
Still available. I want this car gone by this weekend (not desperate though) Make me an offer For those that called, thanks for checking in but the car is worth more than the amount u stated. still waiting. |

@poster I wonder how I am going to drive back home today after work This is really serious. |
Bros, No vex o, how much is th toks of this car. I am sure is a 96 or 97. And b4 u tell me to mind my business, reason would have to apply here. |
Hi Siena, You are very correct with respect to the engine designation. Recently my elder brother recently bought a 5 series which I found out had thesame engine as that in my 3 series. As for my conversion, I had to take the six cyl out and replaced it with an m40 engine 4 cyl for some reasons, 1. I couldn't get a good front shocks for replacement. (I know fit order am because pepper no rest) The price of the one I saw that was almost new was more than 300% over regular e30 shocks. 2. The replacement ball joints were out of reach compared to regular e30. The front shocks were replaced with regular e30 but the show stopper was the oil pump. So I had the option of getting a 2.5 half engine or replace the engire engine to m40. I chose the later. Though it was a huge cost for me and the car has lost togue I prefered it as I now drive it around town without burning much fuel. My wife now drives it and apart from minor electricals, the engine is still sounding sweet especially on the highway. It may be sluggish around town but once it picks up, it is always a joy to drive. My wife had to put up her honda civic 96 for sale as refuse to drive it and she is constantly nagging that I exchange the bimmer for the civic. I sold the civic and how drive an e36 320. It has more togue but I still prefer my e30. We have taken the e30 to Ubulu uku (my home town) in Delta state 2wice this year and the engine is still spurring for more action. |
@aggymore, Thank u for all the information. Just one last info I would want u to give. With the specific loads as mentioned, how long(years) would the batteries last. This info is important because it is a sizeable investment and I am trying to sell the idea to my neigbours who basically know next to nothing about these things as PHCN has made everyone of them to believe that generator is the only way out. Imagine a a house with 8 flats and 4 boys quarters and every one put on their gen in the evening and some neigbours like runing it overnight. They all can afford it on the assurance that it will be their money's worth on the long run. PS: Yours truely lives downstairs and landlord insists that all generators must be kept away from the house. Yours reply will be highly apprciated. Thanks. |
@poster, Thanks for the table. However, u should also include sizes of batteries. That is, 100ah, 200ah etc. Also, with the specified load, how long will the batteries last if fully charged and on the assumption that all the stated load will be ON at thesame time. Your reply is awaited. PS: if u don't know pls. find out from your engineers. Thanks. |
@poster, Prices and and sizes of batteries needed for each will be good if posted here. Awaiting your response. |
Hello Teddy, I am not a part dealer neither do I own an Audi. This may seem a little off but if you are in Lagos have tried Ladipo or Lawanson. Lawanson (Itire) in Surulere is the place where VW and Audi parts are sold. I bet u that those guys have the solution to almost any car problems. I am not advising u do it but there was this one time my boss's A6 in 2005 had a seious brain box prob. and we couldn't find it to buy at VW place in Gbagada as he was told that an order will be placed for it. Well to cut a long story short, a VW passat brain box of 2 years earlier was fitted and it worked like magic. According to the fellow, the wiring system of the 2 cars are thesame. Maybe u should consider an alternative. |
Olofofo, Happy birthday to u man. But I hope no grey hair yet. My little girl the other day saw a strand of grey hair while she was poking on me as usual so that I can put on the gen for her and her friends to watch 4kids on Multi tv and asked "daddy are you 100 years old" ? and I answered almost, then she exclaimed "My daddy is getting older" and I said to her I am just getting wiser because I stopped my premium subscription for DSTV 3 months ago and I am gearing up to invest that saved money on acquiring my Inverter. May u grow wiser like the 3 wise men. Amen. Many more fruitful and fulfilling days awaits us all. Cheers. |
@George D and 'Chuck, Thank you both for your input and God bless u. Like my people say "he who asks for directions never misses his way". Now I am better informed and can make better decisions based on this. Thanks again. |
@George D, Thanks for the info on the Inverter. A guy whom I have assisted to install FTA stations said his company builds inverters locally and that he can get me a 2KVA for like 25k. I want to go for that and he is giving me 12 moths warranty on the product. Also will 100H dry cell motor battery be OK (brand new) as the guy who sells spare parts to me says he can get it for me for 20K. I want to know if it can last as long as the ones that the guys who markets inverters sell. The guy who builds the inverter said that a couple of them were trained by some Chinese some months ago and he also said that the chinese also sell Solar modules for around 15K and that I will need 2 of such panel for effective charge. PS: with a total load of 400watts, how long do you think that a 100h battery can last when fully charged. These statistics are necessary for me to be able to make informed choices. Thanks. Expecting your reply. |
@ poster, Where have u been ? Anyway, the channel has been scrambled by the owners because according to them, the transmission to Nigeria is pirated. Hope that puts your mind at rest. |
@Enitan, Haba, why not just tell the guy to track w3a E b like say that thing wey dey do you don dey come back. You've been very quiet all this while. Take am easy o. Otherwise if I am missing something correct me. |
@George D, Thank u very much. That is why Nairaland is the best place to be. Any idea on how much this quatro LNB (C Band ) goes for. Thanks. |
Hello Oga moderator, I jsut posted about an hour ago and after about 10 minutes, the whole of my post just disappeared. pls. check. |
@Dejsam and all, Thank you for your input. I think I will go for the multi LNB setup as it seems a lot more straight forward. The LNB I got when I bought my Daarsat has 2 output, I think though it KU but is there 3 or 4 way C-band LNB and pls. what is the cost because I want to goto that Alaba once. Omo the place is far and the road is not that good tracfic wise. Thanks again. |
@All, Your opinion and advise is needed. I want to install a 2.4M pan dish for nilesat so that I can get the MBC channels in UAE. The catch is that there is no space in my compound for such dish size but the compund next to mine has ample space and I have reached an agreement with the son of the landlord who is in charge per say to install the dish there and give him feed so that he can use his own Strong 4653x box which was given to him by a friend to receive the signal. Also my neighbour down stairs will also be interested in getting the signal. My question is will a regular 3 way splitter be OK from the LNB to me, my friend and my neighbour as we all have our own independent receivers. Thanks. |
@George D. Pls. since u are online, hope u don't mind responding to my post above on using 2.4M to track Nilesat. |
You can get a 1.8m dish (pan) for around 12K. And 2.4m STRONG pan for around 17K. Since you want to motorize the dish, then you will also need a regular 24 inches jack (3k to 4K) and a positioner (3k). Then of course 1 roll of RG6 satellite cable (900 naira or 1k).@ George D, I stay in Ogudu, Lagos and I want to get a 2.4m dish for Nilesat so I can recieve MBC channels. Please kindly give me an idea of the prices of other things I will need(like the C bannd LNB) apart from the dish and cable. Also, I want to use multple LNBs on it but I don't want it motorised. Thanks. |
