Re-read 'Arrow of God' by Chinua Achebe yesterday where Ezeulu's son in his struggle between his tradition and his 'christian' conversion put the idemili python in a box seeking to kill it, commiting sacrilege. The strange thing was that the occupants of the house knew that there were two pythons living in the roof of the kitchen...
Now, I am reading of this Idemili python sacrilege...

The question to ponder on is 'this snake doesn't bite or harm anyone and this has been on-going for generations, why not?'
I know the pythons found in Akwa Ibom and Cross River are killed and I know those ones will harm you but why not the Idemili Python, what makes it different apart from the theory that it is a royal snake?

A Delta State High Court sitting in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state yesterday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Etenuwoma Oghenero to death by hanging for armed robbery. The convict, Oghenero, acommercial motorcycle operator had earlier been found guilty on the two-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery andarmed robbery preferred against him.
Oghenero with others now at large was saidto have robbed a transporter, one Felix Itirikpe of his valuables including cash at gun point on January 30, 2010 along Okurekpe village, Kokori within Isiokolo judicial division, Isiokolo. The court, in its judgment held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the ingredients of the offence for which the accused was charged and thereafter pronounced him guilty of the charges.
The court further held that the maximum punishment for the offence of armed robbery was death as stipulated in section 6(b) and 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 14 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.
