They have to be real, but there are just too many people applying for just a few places |
We are too emotional about the made in Nigeria car. We lost our 1st chance in the 70s and 80s when the purchasing power was high. Then only PAN and Eddy Bongos made significant impact in increasing local content for the car industry. For real progress to be made, the following must be considered; 1. market availability, 2007 figures for new car sales is very encouraging about 50,000 pc. Banks need to do more 2. availability of technical manpower and right salary 3. availability of of support industries with neccessary raw materials- still very dicey 4. tarrif structure to discourage imports, many countries have used that to grow the local industry, but our borders are porous 5. good export marketing 6. right design to produce correct product mix. 7. good advertisement to promote local consumption and acceptance 8. good training to make repairs easy and cheap 9. availability of cheap spares. With these and some more , the local car industry will blossom |
Actually NHF is not for civil servants only. But most of the contributors are civil servants because their deduction is at source |
Ivie made the 1st blunder and tried to cover it up with theory. I do not like V6 engines simply because they tend to consume more fuel, but their throttle response is smooth. Because they tend to be underworked , they tend to last longer. In naija, V6 are not liked by our quack mechanics, because they do not know a thing about it. I guess that it is high time we start formal training of mechanics with input from the likes of Midas, Siena and Ivie |
Can you finance projects in portharcourt? |
Thanks, I actually tried that , but I needed to put some telephone/zip code stuff which did not jive |
I am really in a place where I can't make phone calls. I am a Portharcourt based , but right now I am not in PHC If you can help please advise. I just needed something that I could pick up from the web |
Sorry I do not have acess to phone in my location for now |

Right now I am in a remote location alone but with internent access and really need to process some excel spreadsheets/word documents. I have tried searching for free packages to no avail. Presido1, No need to be insultive. When I see who you were dancing in the picture you submitted, fear catch meIn 1998, a Toyota coaster bus cost about N5 million ,now it cost about N8m. We were told that PHRC was hiring a toyota coaster for 19k per day. These days most coasters will go for 25-35k per day in Portharcourt market. In 1998, about N80 exchanged for $1, now it is about N120. In 1998 a 30 seater coaster bus could fetch about 30k for afull trip to Lagos from Portharcourt, so why give it to NNPC at 4.5k per a day. Now a coaster can fetch up to 100k for the same trip for a transporter. I rest my case |
The coasters are probably paid for on a daily basis. 150 per seat will mean about 4500/per day which is very low, so that is a lie My advise to IT students is to make the best honest use of your time in any comapny you are doing IT. Many Nigerians do not have the opportunity to do IT at all because there are vey few places to do it. I served in PHRC in 1997 .We were entitled to 1k monthly as corper allowance while lunch was not monetised. The food was good for a corper and we did not complain. I spent my free time in the Staff Library and crisscrossed all maintenance areas of the plant. With knowledge, I gained there I was able to pass 2 interviews and test while still serving with First Aluminum and Shell |
Most of their problems are due to network availability. I think that they can improve |
Depends on location and calibre . Also try talking to estate agents. N50m is too much if you want to have just a low key filling station |
you cant get a good Toyota bus for 500k.Budget 1m for anything good. Even the old model before commuter model will cost at least 700k when the condition is is fiar. Check www.mobile.de to see prices then add 250k for clearing and freight. I have toyota buses ranging from N800k to N1m. Call me on 0807 03 29044 |
I knew that the info from Siena would spin your head. A Golf 1 is almost not available, so forget about it A Golf 2 would cost you about 300-450 naira minimum. It is the best in terms of maintenance and cost. Even new parts are made in China so they are cheap locally |
All commercial vehicles are allowed without any age limit |
Buying locally is more expesive because Nigerian traders mark up prices alot. Check www.shopforless.com for more info. Most of their prices are higher than in the market |
I need 2 weeks short stay accomodation in Amsterdam from 27/01/08 to 09/02/08 |
Does it have a V6 engine or just a straight 4. Why dont you put more pictures especially for interior and engine. The exterior looks nice any way |
Any car enthusiast knows the ultimate difference between a manual and automatic transmission, based on a number of factors. But for those who are simply content on driving around without giving so much thought about their car's components, these two terms can simply be considered as jargons. So what are the differences between manual and automatic transmissions? Operation Perhaps you've encountered various technical definitions between manual and automatic transmissions that you can hardly understand their generic functions. Simply put, manual transmissions mean you have full control with your gears while with automatic you can limit your choices between two pedals. These alone already provide their basic distinction. Manual transmissions work well if you like to be the ultimate master of your vehicle. It gives you more freedom when it comes to maneuvering your car on steep hills or curves. It will also allow you to combat tough weather conditions more comfortably than when your auto has automatic transmission. It doesn't mean, however, that automatic transmission is futile. Because it's very convenient to operate, you can breeze through traffic more easily compared to using automatic transmission. Second, it won't take you much of a long time to determine how to navigate with automatic transmissions. It's even like driving your own go-cart. Costs Though automatic transmissions mean ease of use, they do eat up too much fuel; thus, if you're trying to save on fuel, make sure that you're not settling for automatic transmission. You can save at least 10 percent in fuel economy if you go for manual transmission. Besides, automatic transmissions are known to be ultimately expensive. They have a starting market price of $700. When it comes to repair and maintenance costs, manual transmissions appear to be more superior. They don't need too much refining, so you can definitely save huge bucks in your maintenance and repair budget. In fact, there are a number of car manufacturers who believe that manual transmissions don't need too much in the way of fluid changes. On the other hand, if ever manual transmissions go haywire, they don't cost a lot to get fixed. The clutch, which is one of the most expensive components of a car and the most labor intensive when it gets damaged, is more maintained easily in manual than in automatic transmission. To make matters worse, if your automatic transmission breaks down somewhere, you have to bring jumper cables with you. Otherwise, you won't be able to restart your engine. If this doesn't work, your last recourse will be the towing company. The Birth of Manumatic Transmissions During the onset of the twenty-first century, there's a new transmission method that was introduced by automobile manufacturers. It's referred to as the manumatic transmission. It is an automatic transmission that possesses certain manual-transmission features. A good example are the luxury cars of Chrysler. It's definitely automatic, only that you have more control in shifting your gears. Shopping for the Right Transmission When you have chosen your own car, make sure that before you actually buy it, you've already performed a test drive. This is to ensure that it suits your taste and your current need. You may also have to check on the EPA rating of your vehicle for both manual and automatic transmission. Keep in mind that this is not completely accurate, but at least it can provide you of a good idea on how much fuel your car can use. Choosing the Right Transmission In the end, when it comes to choosing which is which, you shouldn't limit your decision based on pros and cons of each. Rather, think of your car and what you truly need. For example, if you're going to get an Audi for maximum performance, you may want to consider getting a manual transmission so you can have control over its power. If you like to minimize your movements while you're driving, especially in the midst of traffic, automatic transmission is your best choice. |
Buses are not affected by the age limit. Also 7 seater vans are also cleared as buses |

Generally prices in large shops seem to be higher than in the markets. The large shop have high overhead, while the small shops in the markets do not. The large shops buy in larger quantities so they have economy of scale. Buying in the markets depends on your bargaining power as price tags are not used. Shopforless is owned by " Park & Shop" now. I bought an LG mini home theatre from them 2-3years ago for about 24k ie approx $200. Then the markets were selling them for more than $270. Their service was very good. Chinese goods can sell ,but they must be of high quality only. What products do you have in mind. Send me details to ifyobua@yahoo.com |
The Japanese guy is in Japan, so you can not see him here. I am a car freak with so many cars and lots of literature on vehicles . I have a few simple modern tools for solving problems on cars. I have an MSc in Mech engine. I actually spent my early teens growing up near a mechanic village and I still visit mechanic shops almost daily these days both locally and abroad Nigeria mechanics understand next to nothing about modern engine management systems, exhaust and fuel injection systems The mechanics in the Lagos/Ibadan axis are actually better than the ones in Portharcourt and environs. I have a very good diesel mechanic with about 15 years working experience but only completed primary school. I also have a young petrol engine mechanic with very little education but very good and cerebral |
A German mistake now wants to become a Naija mistake. God no go gree. By the way , J-Designs you remind me of the viper himself |
If the car is late model car/big car , it can be a good idea. If you can do it abroad, better. 95% of mecahnics in Nigeria are quack and their work in Nigeria is shoddy. They dont understand what they are doing. Training is poor and they dont read much It will still be more expensive to do steering conversion locally because all the tokunbo parts still come from abroad. A japanese guy promised to do for me for $2000, while most guys charge about N400k for the job in Naija |
Get a good consultanty to do recruitment for you. Hook up with a good marketing agency. Plan well for your raw materials . You can also cite the factory in an area that has good power supply to reduce cost of running generators. Banks interest rates are high but profit margins are also high. Lot os foreigners come to Nigeria with empty briefacases and build up multi million naira businesses Be determined to succed. Nigferia is a product hungry market |
