I'm glad that you're already charting your future during NYSC, that's pretty an early start which is commendable.

Now, this is my 2 cents with respect to Finance field, Consider enrolling for an advanced global certification during your NYSC, preferably, ACCA (you can do ICAN if you can't afford this) or CFA, this will get you through the door in the competitive labour market after NYSC. Also, start brushing up on job aptitude tests as well.

Then gun for the top finance corporations after your NYSC - The big 4 firms (Financial Advisory/ Deals Advisory / M & A or P.E units), AFC, etc.

Get 1 to 3 years experience in any of these good firms and along with your professional certifications you should be able to get a fully or partially funded MBA from a top university (preferably Ivy league) in USA.

With all these, you would easily break into Wall street after your MBA, and get juicy Finance roles.

I am a fresh Accounting graduate awaiting NYSC and I need to make a life changing decision that I will not regret.

I plan to go into Finance, Investment Banking specifically. It resonates with my degree and I can prepare for an entry level role during NYSC.

I picked up Web development during my final year. I have a solid knowledge of HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript now.

I plan to go to the USA through the study route (Masters) and stay back legally.

For Finance:
Within Nigeria, I can get an internship and later an entry level role in one of the numerous investment banking firms in Nigeria.

In USA, I'll need to do MBA. After, to get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa is war because there are tons of capable citizens better than me. I was even told if I'm not in the STEM field, I should forget sponsorship from employers.
Even if I get sponsorship, there are only 85k H1b slots per year, in 2023, about 483k people applied.😭

For Tech:
Within Nigeria, I barely saw any internship opening. Remote internships in foreign companies are the worst. Within 5 hours, 1k people have applied. The job requirements alone will take me over a year to achieve. Same as normal junior job openings... Supply is more than demand.

In USA, I'll need to do Masters in Computer science(I can only work with a degree related to my field of occupation).
Coming from an Accounting background, they may not pick me. If they pick me, I'll do a hell of advanced maths courses.
I can't cope with Discrete mathematics, Linear algebra, Calculus I, Calculus II, etc.
If I manage to cope and I get an employer to sponsor me for H1b visa, I'll still face the lottery of 85k slots and overwhelming applicants. I can't spend that money and come back to Nigeria again.

Please advise me, what should I do?

Australia uses IFRS just like Nigeria, so your accounting knowledge would definitely come very handy for you. Also, as you progress in your accounting career and after you're well settled in the country, you may consider taking the Australian CPA certification as well.

The man who inducted me in the warehouse where I work is 65. He is a made man. He told me he comes around to work because there is no one to stay at home with.

I beg to disagree. ICAN and ACCA are both backed by the IFRS standards.
Accounting/ Auditing in Nigeria is same as it is in the UK, so you need not have an ACCA qualification to get a good, full time accounting/ audit/ finance related offer in the UK. An ACCA qualification can be an added advantage, but with your ICAN, you will also be eligible for same opportunities.

My inverter died last night (due to no PHCN power for 2 days). I had to go sleep in my car at about 3am when the inverter died. I woke up in the morning, rushed out and bought a Sumec Firman SPG3000e2 generator. It cost me N180,000. Due to my desperation, I didn’t ask them fundamental questions. Now I’m using it and it doesn’t power the most important things.

Please can you guys help advice me:

Hello Jarus, I stumbled on this thread and your post because I'm currently researching on the pros and cons of raising my Honda Civic 2009, same as yours.
As you know the ground clearance is not good at all for our roads and its imperative it is raised in order not to destroy the belly.
I guess you no longer use the car , but please guide me on what your experience was like after the raise and any other helpful tips I should know. You can also recommend your technician.

some trackers are #25k,even #20k tracker is available especially for Toyota cars ,I have used a 2000 Honda babyboy,2005 Acura RL and a 2007 Honda Accord,what this Hondas have in common is the key security, without the special coded key that syncs with the ECU you can never start the car,you can use the spare key to open doors,boot or even crank the engine but it will not start,if I park my Honda and put the keys in my pocket you can only use towing van to steal the car.

Let me add my own submission, it might help.

I was experiencing serious fuel consumption on my 03 Camry.

I tried all, but no improvement, not until I changed the first O2 Sensor, I think that 02 Sensor is greatly responsible..

Mind you, min doesn't have a catalyst converter too..

I deliberately didn't replace it cos the one I bought for my 07 Camry didn't do much, it only reduce the car sound while moving slowly but the moment I move a bit faster you get to hear the loud noise again which means it was a fake I bought for 41k.

Thank you for your response, but please why do you suggest that I remove the new catalyst, since it improved the fuel economy by about 20 miles after I fixed it.

Also, the oxygen sensors are working fine, my diagnostic tool would have picked up any error in it if they were.

My calculation with the figures you posted shows your civic does 7km/L of gas. If should be better, say about 10km/L at least.

First, you have a pre catalytic p0420, which suggests catalytic failure.
If you have a clogged catalyst, you will get poor fuel economy.
My suggestion, remove the aftermarket catalyst.
Absence of catalyst can never affect fuel economy..

Secondly, check the activity of your pre catalytic O2 sensor with your scan tool.

thanks for the mention and thank you for being smarter than I am. Personally I was lost and couldn't understand it and then when I was reading what you were saying and I started thinking, maybe it's a headlight because it is equipped with two headlights.

Then you said there's a magneto under the flywheel, I didn't have a stinking clue of that. It was definitely be on my pay grade. Could that magneto be the reason that it backfires when turning it off? I understand if you don't know but because I can tell you're smarter than I am, I have to ask.

It was stolen at the port and the check engine light was fraudulently cleared, then it suddenly popped up after some days of purchase.

That's why I advise people to carry out due diligence and thorough inspection on Tokunbo cars, just as they would for Nigerian used cars.

The mechanic made it clear that the new Pot is from China.

The cost of a tokunbo pot is overwhelmingly expensive and that was why I settled for the Chinese alternative, however, I'm open to suggestions on how I can get it for a fairly affordable cost.

I have been there with p420 on my camry big daddy before, I changed bought the 2 sensors but the light still stays until I bought the tokunbo catalyst(Stolen from another car while coming into the country cos mine was stolen at the port too) and erased the check engine light, I didn’t see it again for 4 years now. Car is even with new owner.

My point is, they might put a “net” catalyst into the pot for you and you won’t know since it will quench the noise. Also I had a bad mileage during those times.

But if the original catalyst was bought, the light will stay off.

Mechanic do that to cut down the cost. The total fixing of the NET version for your car will cost only 9k-15k against the 40k you paid.

The O2 Sensors were changed before the catalyst so it is not the probable cause. Also, my scanner would bring out the sensor error code if it has any issues, but the only error code seen is the Catalyst. So the sensors are perfectly okay.

meet a competent electrician to test ur O2 sensors also ur fuel pressure sensor as well as your engine temp sensors, these are what force ur ecu TO SEND MOR OR LESS FUEL. your cat converter does not have any wiring on it so the nearest wired device is ur o2 sensor.nah there my DIY skills reach!

My Honda Civic is Consuming Fuel Excessively!!!

Hello guys, please my 4 cylinder, 1.8 engine Honda Civic, 2009 model, is consuming fuel excessively, on a full tank, I'm getting about 15/16 miles per gallon on city and few highway driving, instead of 29/30 as expected.
I get only 200 miles instead of the standard 383 miles on a full tank, which is appalling.

A full tank of 8k will be exhausted after about 3 to 4 trips to and from mainland-island (ikeja-VI), and this is not economical for me at all.
At times, I question my decision on buying the car as I understood that it and Toyota corolla had the best fuel consumption, based on popular opinion, before I purchased it.

I bought the car as Tokunbo with a mileage of over 100k, also, there was no catalyst in it (the pot was empty), so I purchased and fixed a new catalyst for N40,000, this increased the mileage from 200 miles to just 215 miles on a full tank, which is very infinitesimal.

In addition the Check engine light has refused to clear even with the new catalyst replacement, it has been throwing up error code P0420 “Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).

My mechanic is now suggesting a fuel system overhaul, he suggested checking and/or replacement of the fuel pump, air filter, spark plugs, fuel injector and other accessories, which does not go well with me after buying and fixing a new catalyst for 40k.

Please what can be the probable cause of this anomaly auto experts?
I will greatly appreciate your contributions.

I bashed an SUV yesterday, I thought the driver was taking off and I charged up to follow him just to beat the messy traffic, he braked immediately and it happened. His bumper was a bit disjointed on the right side, and almost pulled off one of the mini brake lights on the bumper. Nothing happened to my car.

We parked by the road side and Mr got out of control. I kept telling to calm down that I acknowledged it was my fault and mistake. I started hearing things like, who are you? How old are you? You small boy, go and ask of me in so so and so autos store”

I kept telling him to calm down but he wasn’t having it. Cost of damage running into hundred and some thousands was given to me. I was working on making a transfer while he was still fuming in anger and saying a lot. All of a sudden he entered his car and told his friend to hop in, I tried pleading with him to wait, he refused and even told me he will do worse should he get down from his car. I told his friend to tell him to calm down but he shouted at his friend to close his door and zoomed off.

On my way home I realized a lot from the incident, ALOT. The man was not interested in taking money from me. He was that angry because he knows he was not going to take money from me and he knows he was going to bear the cost of fixing the car. He was angry because he did not leave his house to go and bear cost for another person and the incident will likely ruin the rest of his day. I felt bad. I felt his pain. A Lexus SUV for the men.

But why was he feeling intimidated by asking my age and social status? Maybe it was my body composure, because I wasn’t looking fazed, I knew I already made a mistake which I have to pay for. I accept my mistakes easily, it helps me beat and teach myself for correction.

Then he also asked me this question;

“Where are you rushing to?”

this question will be my motto for 2021.


The incident also reminded me of my Ma, back then when it was time to pay school fees and we ask her for money, she starts acting as if they are stinging her needles. Woe betide you should you forget to do chores or refused to run errands for her, she’ll kill you in peace and keep the school fees money instead.
