The presiding Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly and running mate to Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) in the 2011 elections, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has described the meteoric political rise of President Jonathan as something that can only be the work of God. Bakare, who spoke in a never before heard interview made several startling claims including an allegation that the 5 PDP governors who decamped to the APC are moles sent by the PDP to destroy the APC from within. He also said that Nigeria may have to settle for a Muslim/Muslim tickets and appealed for Nigerians to make exceptions for such a ticket. In other claims, Bakare exonerated President Jonathan from any wrongdoing in granting a pardon to former Bayelsa state governor, Diepriye Alamieyeseigha and explained why he supported the move and encouraged the President to pardon him. These and more are brought to you in the interview. http://buildupnigeria.com/2014/12/15/jonathans-political-ascension-is-the-work-of-god-pastor-tunde-bakare/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5jBp6xQdSHk

Sources told SaharaReporters that despite getting earlier assurances from the candidates to step down, several of them pulled out from the agreement and stubbornly decided they will proceed to the convention ground to run against the retired general. The side meetings had led to a prolonged delay of the kickoff of the convention. Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano said on twitter that he is still in the race. Publisher of Leadership newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah, also insisted he would run. Prince Emeka Madumere, who acts as the campaign Director for Governor Rochas Okorocha’s presidential campaign, also told Saharareporters by phone that his principal will contest the primary. President Jonathan has singed more landmark bills into Law than any of his predecessors including Baba my watch my command 1. FOI 2. Pension reform II 3. Anti Homosexual bipolar test 4. Anti terror Bill 5 . And now the National Health Bill They call him clueless but with one master stroke he has taken care of Johesu and other allied professionals who have abandoned helpless Nigerians in public hospitals. God Bless Nigeria |
Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has signed the long-awaited National Health Bill. This was confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES, via text message, by presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati. “Yes, he did weeks ago and the bill has since been transmitted back to the clerk of the National Assembly,” Mr. Abati said. In July, a report on the bill was presented by a House committee assigned to consider amendments and the results of public hearings on the bill. The committee was presided over by Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha. However, no amendment was made by the House at plenary when it was passed. The Senate had earlier approved its version of the bill. The bill clearly defines the various roles and functions to be played by the three tiers of government on health related issues. It is expected to help Nigeria achieve universal health service, guarantee improvement in the health sector, regulate healthcare practice, and promote professionalism among healthcare givers. The bill is also expected to set standards in health care services rendered across Nigeria and also help eliminate medical quacks in the system. It seeks among others, the enablement to provide one per cent of Nigeria’s consolidated revenue fund for the development of primary health care. The various states across Nigeria through this fund, are expected to improve on primary health care services in their states. The bill also covers provision of health care insurance for Nigerians especially the less privileged. About 15 percent of the one percent fund will be for the provision and maintenance of facilities, equipment and transport for PHC facilities, while 20 per cent will cover essential vaccines and consumables for all eligible primary healthcare facilities across Nigeria. Also, 50 percent of the one percent fund that is provided for in the clause 11 under a Basic Health Care Fund will be utilized by the National Health Insurance Scheme to provide health coverage. The bill in its entirety also takes care of the continuous crisis within professional health bodies in Nigeria. www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/172842-president-jonathan-signs-national-health-bill.html |

Details emerged on Thursday as to how the five presidential hopeful of the All Progressives Congress (APC) fared before the Dr Ogbonaya Onu-led screening committee of the party. The five aspirants are former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso; Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha and the Leadership publisher, Sam Nda-Isaiah. Sources in the party told the Nigerian Tribune that the panel asked only two questions from the presidential hopeful. One of the questions is whether the aspirant would be ready to sign an undertaking to join hands with whoever emerges the eventual candidate and where the aspirant would pick his running mate from. It was confirmed that Nda-Isaiah told the panel he would be ready to sign the undertaking and that he would pick his running mate, a Christian from the South. Okorocha was also said to have told the panel he would pick his running mate, a Muslim from the North, while Atiku told the committee he would sign the undertaking and allow the party decide on his running mate. Kwakwanso was also quoted as saying that he would pick his running mate from the South and he would be a Christian. General Buhari also agreed to sign the undertaking but told the committee that he could pick either a Muslim or a Christian, adding that he would pick someone who would enhance his ticket and allow him to win the election. Sources said that the panel had to drill the General more than the others because of his response. One of the panel members was said to have asked the General whether he did not see religion as an issue in the 2015 election. A source said the General gave an example of the MKO Abiola and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, who won the June 12 1993 election despite fielding a Muslim/Muslim ticket. A source said some of the panel members were jolted by the comments, making the General to explain his point further. “The screening panel concentrated on two major issues: that all aspirants should sign an undertaking that whoever wins would be supported by all others while individual campaign organisations would be collapsed into the candidate’s campaign organisation which the party would set up. The second issue was the choice of their running mates,” the source said. Buhari was said to have told the panel, “anything that would make me win the election is my concern, after all, Chief M.K.O Abiola and Babagana Kingibe did the same in 1993 and won.” Some of the committee members were said to have, however, reminded the General that he should be mindful that the political complexion of the country had changed . Buhari was further said to have told the panel members that he was only expressing his opinion and that he would comply with the party’s resolutions. He said that it should be noted that all the three times he had contested he fielded Christians from the South as running mates. Sources in the party further told the Nigerian Tribune that some party leaders however leaked Buhari’s encounter with the panel to his co-contestants. One of the Governors said to be interested in the post of running mate to the party’s presidential hopeful was said to have reached out to Buhari and asked that the General should make no further reference to what transpired at the screening as according to him, some other aspirants could play up the issue of Muslim/Muslim ticket. “The General assured the governor that he merely expressed his views at the screening and was willing to do what could ensure victory after all the party has not made up its mind about a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” a source said. Berlin, 3 December 2014 – Corruption is a problem for all economies, requiring leading financial centres in the EU and US to act together with fast-growing economies to stop the corrupt from getting away with it, anti-corruption group Transparency International said today. In the 20th edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index, scores for China (with a score of 36 out of 100), Turkey (45) and Angola (19) were among the biggest fallers with a drop of 4 or 5 points, despite average economic growth of more than 4 per cent over the last four years. Click here for the full index “The 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that economic growth is undermined and efforts to stop corruption fade when leaders and high level officials abuse power to appropriate public funds for personal gain,” said José Ugaz, the chair of Transparency International. “Corrupt officials smuggle ill-gotten assets into safe havens through offshore companies with absolute impunity,” Ugaz added. “Countries at the bottom need to adopt radical anti-corruption measures in favour of their people. Countries at the top of the index should make sure they don’t export corrupt practices to underdeveloped countries.” More than two thirds of the 175 countries in the 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index score below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean). Denmark comes out on top in 2014 with a score of 92 while North Korea and Somalia share last place, scoring just eight. The scores of several countries rose or fell by four points or more. The biggest falls were in Turkey (-5), Angola, China, Malawi and Rwanda (all -4). The biggest improvers were Côte d´Ivoire, Egypt, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (+5), Afghanistan, Jordan, Mali and Swaziland (+4). The Corruption Perceptions Index is based on expert opinions of public sector corruption. Countries’ scores can be helped by open government where the public can hold leaders to account, while a poor score is a sign of prevalent bribery, lack of punishment for corruption and public institutions that don’t respond to citizens’ needs. Corruption in emerging economies China’s score fell to 36 in 2014 from 40 in 2013, despite the fact the Chinese government launched an anti-corruption campaign targeting corrupt public officials. The government has recognized the need to follow officials who hide ill-gotten gains overseas. This January, leaked documents revealed 22,000 offshore clients from China and Hong Kong, including many of the country’s leaders. The score matches a poor performance by Chinese companies in Transparency International’s recent report on corporate disclosure practices where all eight Chinese companies scored less than three out of ten. Corruption and money laundering are also problems for the other BRIC countries. This year has seen questions raised related to a major oil company using secret companies to bribe politicians in Brazil (which scores 43), questions about Indians (38) using bank accounts in Mauritius (54) and Russians (27) doing the same in Cyprus (63). “Grand corruption in big economies not only blocks basic human rights for the poorest but also creates governance problems and instability. Fast-growing economies whose governments refuse to be transparent and tolerate corruption, create a culture of impunity in which corruption thrives,” said Ugaz. Countries on top must fight global corruption Transparency International called on countries at the top of the index where public sector corruption is limited to stop encouraging it elsewhere by doing more to prevent money laundering and to stop secret companies from masking corruption. While top performer Denmark has strong rule of law, support for civil society and clear rules governing the behaviour of those in public positions, it also set an example this November, announcing plans to create a public register including beneficial ownership information for all companies incorporated in Denmark. This measure, similar to those announced by Ukraine and the UK, will make it harder for the corrupt to hide behind companies registered in another person’s name. The anti-corruption group is currently running a campaign to Unmask the Corrupt, urging European Union, United States and G20 countries to follow Denmark’s lead and create public registers that would make clear who really controls, or is the beneficial owner, of every company. “None of us would fly on planes that do not register passengers, yet we allow secret companies to conceal illegal activity. Public registers that show who really owns a company would make it harder for the corrupt to take off with the spoils of their abuse of power,” said Transparency International Managing Director Cobus de Swardt. Transparency International is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Mr. Reno Omokri, has noted that the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 confirmed the success of the anti-corruption fight of the president. Nigeria improve on the CPI from 144 in 2013 to 136 this year. He attributed the success to the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in the country. “The significant improvement Nigeria has made in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index released by Transparency International is as a result of the clinical surgical incision made by President Jonathan at the centers of corruption in Nigeria. You may recall that the Fertilizer Procurement and Distribution regime of the Agricultural sector used to be a cesspool of corruption. Billions of dollars were lost as middlemen inflated costs yet supplied subpar products to our farmers. But under the guidance of President Jonathan, 14 million farmers were registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and were connected directly to the product through the e-wallet system which allowed the ministry send texts to farmers to go and pick up their fertilizer and seeds direct from the depot. Nigeria has saved close to $2 Billion that would have gone into the pockets of corrupt officials and middlemen by this system. Also, I am sure Transparency International took into account the fact that this administration took the unprecedented step of auditing the workforce of the Federal Civil Service and in the process weeded out fifty thousand ghost workers saving Nigeria almost 350 billion Naira per annum. Due to the President’s determination to punish this economic sabotage, those responsible have been forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for prosecution to the highest extent of the law. It is also common knowledge that this administration has all but eliminated electoral fraud. Nigerians as well as Transparency International can attest to the fact that all elections held under the watch of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, whether the 2011 General Elections, or the elections in Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun and Niger, have been free and fair and seen to be so by the International Community. These and other policies are the criteria that TI has used to bump Nigeria up in her ratings. He took a swipe at the opposition for doling out cash to their delegates in preparation to the party’s primaries “If it were up to the opposition, which is preparing for its primaries by doling out cash to their delegates and calling it welfare, Nigeria would have sunk further down in the CPI instead of our current improvement,” he said. He added that the president will continue the fight against corruption. Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index 2014 ranks countries based on a 100-point “corruption perception” scale, where zero equals a “highly corrupt” perception and 100 means the country is perceived to be very clean. Nigeria ranked 136th, along with Russia, Lebanon, and Kyrgyzstan. In the report, North Korea and Somalia rank equal-worst of 174 countries with a score of just eight. Denmark and New Zealand ranked least corrupt, with scores of 92 and 91, respectively. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/corruption-index-nigerias-improvement-confirms-jonathans-anti-corruption-fight/

Over the years I have refrained from reacting to Omoyele Sowore not because of his "raping" tendencies but because he has taken lies to another Level. For the Nation Newspaper it is easy to Understand why an Editor in chief will choose to sell his soul, Tinubu the drug dealer does not demand anything less Like we saw on Friday in Kano the enemies of this country always want Nigeria to be in the news for all the wrong reason we have a duty as patriotic citizens to always paint a true reflection of all issues at all times. Yes We have challenges as a country , but show me a country under the heavens that does not , Finally, I present you with the up close and personal picture of the President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with Student Union executives of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife during his visit to that institution last week ! Meantime, Governor Fayose has ll the privileges of former Governor Olusegun Oni, which were stopped by the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi. A statement in Ado-Ekiti yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, said Governor Fayose took the step in appreciation of the contributions of past leaders in the state. “Governor Ayo Fayose is restoring all the privileges of former Governor Segun Oni. His portrait among those who have led the state that was removed from the Governor’s Office by former governor Kayode Fayemi has been returned. All those who served with him and whose portraits and other souvenirs were removed by the past administration such as former chief press secretaries among others, have been returned. “It was the Fayemi administration that even stopped their financial entitlements when it made the House of Assembly to pass a bill that Oni and Fayose were not due for such. “The excuse they gave was that Fayose did not complete his tenure and Oni’s tenure was unknown to law because the court removed him from office. “The Fayose administration appreciates the contributions of those who have led the state in the past and would not in anyway rubbish such. We are ready to acknowledge all and would not because of political differences rubbish what people have done in the past,” he said. The statement expressed the readiness of the governor to provide a leadership that would eventually rank him among statesmen in Ekiti. Vanguard |

I see nothing Honourable in scaling a Fence the actions of those lawmakers is not only a disgrace to the legislature but an embarrassment to their children ! |
Senator Magnus Abe has said members of the House of Representatives who scaled the gate during the invasion of the National Assembly complex by the police last Thursday, deserve commendations and national awards. He said this while speaking with newsmen at the grand finale of the Yoruba Week 2014 and launch of the N500 million Yoruba House, held in Port Harcourt, on Saturday. Abe, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), said there was nothing wrong in the action of the lawmakers, noting that what they did was in the defence of the independence of the legislature. “People were talking about lawmakers who scaled the fence. I want to say that those lawmakers are the true defenders of the independence of the legislature. They should be given national awards for what they did,” he said. Abe said they were right in scaling the gate in order to gain entry into the National Assembly complex to be able to perform their duty as the representatives of the Nigerian people. He also said the action was to prove a point that no force or power could stop the national legislature from meeting, adding that a bad precedent would have been laid if the lawmakers had beaten a retreat during the invasion. “If they have to scale the fence, they will scale it and they did so (that) the Nigerian people could meet to discuss the problems of Nigeria. How can anybody say they have not acted honourably? “In the words of Barry Goldwater, the American politician, and I quote, ‘moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue and extremism in the defence of liberty is no vice.’’’ Meanwhile, a group, the National Democratic Front, has described the recent saga that engulfed the House of Representatives as a national disgrace and embarrassment that could have been avoided if the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal had taken the necessary steps. The national president of the group, Philip Agbese, said this in Abuja. The group also alleged that the Speaker’s plan was to factionalise the National Assembly. He said Nigerians should hold Tambuwal and the All Progressives Congress (APC) responsible if democracy failed in the country. He condemned in totality the plan by the speaker and the APC to set up a parallel National Assembly, querying the sudden re-opening of the House of Representative after Tambuwal had adjourned it till December as unacceptable. Agbese warned the speaker to be careful so that he does not become a tool in the hands of anarchists. and enemies of the democracy he used to once defend. The civil rights activist also informed Tambuwal and his Co travellers that Nigerians are watching closely and will hold them responsible for their actions and inactions. The group urged him not to drag the image and reputation of the House of Representatives into the mud, advising the speaker to “vacate his seat to further prevent more break down of law and order if he is actually the patriot he claims”. He described Nigerian politicians as men lacking in what they say and not what they can offer. According to him, the unnecessary legal tussle following the outcome of the Speaker’s defection is highly uncalled for except for some individuals who believe they can continue to deceive the people using the instrumentality of their office as a weapon. Agbese added that what transpired between the Police and some members of the national assembly was ochestrated by Aminu Tambuwal who is acting the script of the all progressive congress to form a parrallel government at every level is regrettable, uncivilised and animalistic in all ramifications and could have been aborted if Tambuwal was still in the right frame of mind.” “It is high time our leaders are reminded that just like in other climes politicians must learn to conduct themselves with some level of morality, and it is on this note that we call on Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal to stop making mockery of our democracy by honourably tendering his resignation letter as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the following days”. “We consider it unjust and immoral for anyone to set standards that he cannot maintain and wonder why those gentlemen that have continue to call on the President to quit on flimsy excuses cannot honourably tender in their resignations when their actions are on the other side of the law.” “We therefore unequivocally call on Aminu Tambuwal to stop this level of gansterism as his preelsent position does not permit such acts that are inimical to the growth and development of the country.” However, the social critic also added that the leadership of the house should remain closed until full constitutional order is restored to the national assembly to ensure that the complex is not taken over by miscreants who believe in barbarism. Overall the GEJ’s presidential declaration was unique, no insults, no vulgar words, no abusive language very civil and gentlemanly Over the years, the Almighty God has made it possible for me to develop a bond with you and I am grateful for your support and understanding in the difficult periods we have journeyed through. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our stewardship has not been without challenges. We have had to deal with the wave of insurgency that has swept through some parts of our dear country. Only yesterday, Government Science Secondary School in Yobe State was bombed by insurgents, killing our promising young children who were seeking education to build the country and support their parents. Many Nigerians have lost their lives and property to these mindless killings. Let me crave the indulgence of all present here to stand up to observe a minutes silence in honour of these young lads who lost their lives. Clearly, this has cast a dark cloud on our Nation but we will surely win the war against terror. A number of young men and women have been kidnapped by these criminal elements including our daughters from Chibok. We will free our daughters and defeat terrorism. This day affords me the opportunity to continue the conversation of development we started together . Our power generation and distribution companies have now been privatized. We are firmly on the road to guaranteed regular power supply in the months ahead. This our bold move, is paying off! We are committed to environmental protection and conservation and reducing vulnerability to climate change. In this regard, we have embarked on a number of projects across the country. Of particular note is the African Great Green Wall Programme, where we have released about 16 billion naira for implementation. The project will create a green belt across 11 states from Kebbi to Borno. . Before the advent of this administration, the Railway system was practically dead. Today, we have revived the rail sector. The narrow gauge line from Lagos to Kano has been rehabilitated with improved coaches providing regular services. The rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line is progressing with the Port Harcourt-Gombe segment as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna expected to be completed and fully operational by December 2014. . Already, work on the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line, is progressing. The tracks of the rail line will be completed by December this year 2014. Upon completion of the project in the first quarter of 2015, it will be possible for Nigerians to live in Kaduna and work in Abuja. The Itape-Ajaokuta-Wari standard gauge line has attained an advanced stage, with the track completely laid. We hope to commence full operation before the end of 2015. I am happy to also report that our ports now operate 24 hour service, which has led to the reduction of clearing time and improved efficiency. When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable. Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km. We expect to complete the remaining 10,000km in three years while initiating new ones. . I made a commitment to build two new major bridges across the River Niger and River Benue. Today, the new bridge over the River Benue, connecting Loko in Nassarawa State to Oweto in Benue State has reached an advance stage of completion, while work has commenced on the Second Niger Bridge. We have also succeeded in eliminating the long queues that previously characterised our filling stations, through regular and sustained product supply. . Gas infrastructure to ensure adequate Gas to Power and Gas to Industry, is being aggressively put in place. Over 450km of gas pipelines have been installed over the last 3years. Another 2,000km is planned over the next 4years. Critical petrochemical and fertilizer facilities have commenced including the gas industrial park in Delta State, for which I am scheduled to perform the ground-breaking this Friday. This will create millions of jobs and make Nigeria a regional hub. We have changed the face of agriculture. We moved agriculture away from a development Programme to agriculture as a business. My vision is to create wealth for our people through agriculture. We ended decades of corruption in the fertilizer and seed sectors. We developed a transparent and efficient system of reaching farmers directly with subsidized farm inputs. Before our reforms, fertilizer procurement and distribution took from the needy and gave to the greedy. We restored dignity back to farmers. Today, 14 million farmers, of which 2 million are women, access fertilizers with their mobile phones, through an e-wallet system. Nigeria is the first country in the world to develop an e-wallet system to reach farmers with subsidized farm inputs on their mobile phones. Several African countries are now borrowing this transparent and efficient e-wallet system for their own countries. Our national food production expanded by an additional 21 million metric tons between 2011 and 2014, a record, exceeding our set target of 20 million metric tons set for 2015. The Dangote Group, has committed to invest $US 1 billion in commercial rice production and processing. With all these developments, we are expected to be an exporter of rice in the next five years. This will be a new dawn! The benefits are showing on our food imports. Our food import bill has declined from 1.1 trillion Naira in 2009 to 684 billion Naira by December 2013, even with our increasing population, a reduction of 40%.. Nigeria met its Millennium Development Goal One on reducing hunger and extreme poverty, two years ahead of 2015 target set by the United Nations, and was given an award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In our journey to progress, knowledge is indispensable. Knowledge is power! This is why my administration established 14 new Universities out of which 12 are conventional and two are specialized Police and Maritime Universities. Under my watch, every state in Nigeria, now has a Federal University. Fellow Nigerians, our country was faced with a major National security, humanitarian, and economic threat in the form of the Ebola Virus Disease, which arrived in the country on July 20, 2014, by way of a foreign national, Mr Patrick Sawyer.. Realizing the imminent threat, I declared a national emergency, pulling states, local and federal government into action as well as individual Nigerians to combat this disease. Without the quick action of patriotic Nigerians in the First Consultant Hospital, as well as the co-operation of Lagos and Rivers State, where the disease occurred, working with the Federal Ministry of Health and the co-operation of all Nigerians we could not have succeeded in overcoming this deadly disease. Fellow Nigerians we stopped Ebola together. Our support for cement production is unprecedented. We have increased our installed capacity from 16.5 million metric tons per annum in 2011 to 39.5 million metric tons per annum in 2014. Nigeria is now exporting cement. We are moving forward! We must produce what we consume and consume what we produce. . Our efforts to create an enabling environment for job creation in different sectors of the economy including the MSME sector, agriculture, housing and manufacturing have yielded results. Between the third quarter of 2012, when we started tracking jobs created and the end of 2013, 1.9 million jobs were created. To deepen our success in this area, I have created a Presidential Jobs Creation Board headed by the Vice President with the mandate to create at least two million jobs a year. . My brothers and sisters, our economy is heading in the right direction and our efforts are yielding positive results. Our economy continues to grow at the rate of 6 to 7 percent annually, one of the highest in the world. Our country is now the top investment destination and the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of 80trillion naira (510billion dollars) as well as the 26th largest economy in the world. . Specifically, I doubled the percentage of women in the cabinet and gave them more challenging assignments. The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), is now admitting female cadets as regular combatants and it is now possible for a woman to rise through the ranks to the peak in military service, and become a full general. . We must continue to sustain the banner of freedom and justice that we have held high in our country. I am proud to say that there are no political prisoners in Nigeria today. No Nigerian has been driven to exile and no one will be, under my watch. It is in furtherance of a peaceful, participatory and inclusive democracy that I signed the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law, to expand the frontiers of our fundamental freedom. Let me re-affirm that under a Jonathan Presidency, your views, no matter how freely expressed, will not send you to prison or into exile. . So many things have inspired me in the journey to this moment. I want to appreciate ordinary Nigerians, especially young people, for the solidarity shown to me by contributing their meagre resources to enable me arrive at this point. . I appreciate the kind gesture of the Cattle Breeders Union, Miyetti Allah, and the Market Women Association, who encouraged me by coming together to contribute to the purchase of my Nomination form. In the same vein, I am touched by the National Association of Widows who also encouraged me with their widow’s mite. . This labour of love, from ordinary Nigerians, has increased my appreciation of your solidarity, my trust in our joint destiny, and all we have achieved together these past three and half years. . Therefore, after seeking the face of God, in quiet reflection with my family and having listened to the call of our people nationwide to run, I, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, have accepted to re-present myself, on the platform of The Peoples’ Democratic Party, for re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the 2015 general elections. . My brothers and sisters, we cannot go back to the old ways! Our railways were allowed to rot in neglect, we have revived and are modernising them. . We cannot go back to the old ways! Our road infrastructure collapsed. We are reconstructing, and expanding federal roads across the country. 82. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our airport terminal buildings were dilapidated and our airspace unsafe. We are fixing this. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our agricultural practices did not benefit our farmers and our people. Fertilizer distribution was a major source of fraud and we were importing food more than our budget can carry. Now we are on our way to self-sufficiency in food production. Do you want to go back to the old ways? . We cannot go back to the old ways, where there were long queues at our filling stations due to irregular supply of products and our people were exploited. We cannot go back to the old ways, when women and youths were denied opportunities in government and in responsible positions. Do you want to go back to the old ways? We cannot go back to the old ways! We had skewed distribution of tertiary institutions. Whereas some states had more than one degree awarding institution, some had none. We have now made sure all states have at least one Federal University. We cannot go back to the old ways! Our economy is now the largest in Africa. Once, we were virtually importing everything, now we are exporting several products, including cement. We cannot go back to the old ways! In 2009, average life expectancy was 47 years, by the end of 2013, it was 52 years. Some of our hospitals now perform open heart surgeries, kidney transplants and other challenging operations as we reposition our health service to end decades of medical tourism that drains our scarce resources. . We cannot go back to the old ways where individual freedoms were trampled upon and citizens were locked up for expressing their views or criticising government. . We have to move forward! Only forward!!, my dear people, Forward!!! In moving forward, I see a Nigeria that thirsts for progress with children across the nation, eager for knowledge and safely in schools! . I see a Nigeria where all who have taken up arms, would again embrace peace! I see a Nigeria where our women can aspire to any heights, without hindrance! . I see a Nigeria where the flames in the Eagles will rekindle, and the Falcons soaring higher in victory! . I see a Nigeria where the children of Mustapha, and Christopher, Ade and Ada, Timi and Bunmi, Nnamdi and Namadi, do not go hungry! I see a Nigeria where all, no matter their beliefs, live in peace and harmony! . I see a Nigeria where the green passport is accorded a royal reception the world over! . I see a Nigeria where one day the next generation will take us to outer space. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, leadership is about staying focused to achieve goals despite challenges. I have been faced with many challenges since coming to office as President. With your support and encouragement, we have stayed the course. . We are succeeding, against all odds. For the young Nigerian child, who grew up in the rural area, just like me, we are expanding opportunities and giving them hope. For the market woman, we are expanding opportunities. For our young entrepreneurs, we are expanding opportunities. For the right of our people to vote and for their voices to be heard, we are expanding opportunities. For Nigerians to have the right to free speech, we are expanding opportunities. For the job seekers, against all odds, we are expanding opportunities. My people, Nigeria is destined for greatness. Today, here at Eagle Square, I say to Nigeria, that working together in love, in strength and in faith, we will build a nation of one people, united in purpose and in action. . Fellow Nigerians, it is forward ever! We must put our hopes to work! Together, we will realize our collective destiny. Thank you!. God bless Nigeria!!

Disappointed by the refusal of the United States to help Nigeria procure military weapons to combat Boko Haram, the federal government has now openly expressed its dissatisfaction with the American government decision, arguing that the Americans were letting Nigeria down at her hour of need, Empowered Newswire reports. Speaking Monday while receiving a delegation of the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations, the Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Professor Ade Adefuye said both the Nigerian people and the government feel abandoned by America. According to Mr. Adefuye “I am sad to inform you that the Nigerian leadership: military and political, and even the general populace, are not satisfied with the scope, nature and content of the United States’ support for us in our struggle against terrorists.” Continuing, the Nigerian envoy stated that “we find it difficult to understand how and why in spite of the U.S. presence in Nigeria with their sophisticated military technology, Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly”. Reviewing the situation further, Mr. Adefuye said that at first, Nigeria had problems with the manner in which intelligence was being shared, adding that even though the U.S. Government claims that the problem has been addressed, “it is still there”. Categorically, Mr. Adefuye stated that “the U.S. Government has up till today refused to grant Nigeria’s request to purchase lethal equipment that would have brought down the terrorists within a short time on the basis of the allegations that Nigeria’s defence forces have been violating human rights of Boko Haram suspects when captured or arrested.” Indeed the US government had equally explained that it would not be selling military weapons to Nigeria due to human rights allegations against the Nigerian military. But Mr. Adefuye, in his meeting with the Council on Foreign Relations, dismissed such allegations. Mr. Adefuye noted that Nigeria and the United States have had a long standing and healthy relationship reinforced by existing economic and geo-political realities. However he said in recent times “Nigeria has had reasons to complain about the style, nature and manner with which some United States’ policies are implemented with particular reference to terrorism in Nigeria.“ He said the United States was the first to respond to Nigeria’s call for support in its battle against terrorists and has remained a major pillar of support in the struggle against the terrorists. But he said it is a sad commentary that right now inspite of the U.S. presence and help in Nigeria Boko Haram is becoming more deadly. Alleging that the US might have been reacting upon claims from the opposition media with sympathy for opposition parties, Adefuye insisted that the allegations could not be substantiated as many of the allegations were meant to “embarrass the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.” Professor Adefuye further emphasised that allegations of human rights violation are based on rumours, hearsays and exaggerated accounts of clashes between the Nigerian forces and Boko Haram fighters. He cited an example of an incident that happened in Baga in 2013, when human rights groups and the opposition press reported that based on pictures taken from satellite, over 1600 houses were destroyed in a village that has less than 600 houses. Besides, Mr. Adefuye stated regarding the video reports of human rights violations involving attacks on women and children purported to have been carried out by Nigerian soldiers in Boko Haram affected areas that those activities were carried out by Boko Haram members wearing stolen Nigerian army uniforms. He explained that disguise and subterfuge are standard practices of insurgent groups; and that the Chibok abduction of our school girls by Boko Haram succeeded because the girls thought that they were being carried to safety by soldiers of the Nigerian army. The Nigerian Ambassador said opinions on human rights violations by Nigerian defence forces are biased and are not subjected to the necessary verification. He went on to say that the Boko Haram issue is becoming heavily politicized especially with the approach of the general elections in 2015. Opposition media, he said, provide half-truths, exaggerated accounts which are then aired by the foreign media, forming the basis of reports sent to the capitals of Western nations. He, therefore, implored the embassies of western nations based in Nigeria to check and re-check their facts, and not use half-truths and rumours as the basis of their reports and recommendations to their capitals. He argued that the alleged violations are unfortunately the basis of U.S.’ refusal to sell necessary lethal equipment to Nigeria in order to fight Boko Haram. The Nigerian ambassador then implored the Council on Foreign Affairs to put pressure on the US State Department and the US Department of Defence to re- examine the basis of their refusal to sell equipment to Nigeria, insisting that Boko Haram threatens Nigeria’s corporate existence and territorial integrity. “A stable and secure Nigeria is an invaluable asset to America,” Mr. Adefuye said Nigeria blasts America, says U.S has let Nigeria down in war against Boko Haram , full post shortly. http:///xZACPzw3VE |
