PoliticsSynagogue: Lagos Suspends Probe by ochejoseph(op): 4:57am On Sep 24, 2014
THE Lagos State government has suspended its independent investigation into the cause of the collapse of a guesthouse in the premises of Synagogue Church of All Nations, which killed 86 people on September 12.

State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, confirmed this on Tuesday, as he disclosed that all findings on the disaster would be withheld pending the outcome of another probe panel set up by the Federal Government.

The state government had on Monday called a world press conference on the disaster, which was later rescheduled for Tuesday.

Ibirogba, on Tuesday, announced that the briefing had been cancelled based on “experts’ advice”. He said the advice was taken since the Federal Government’s committee was already investigating the disaster.

“We have some issues coming up. We would not want to do anything that will embarrass anyone, ourselves or compromise ongoing investigation being carried out by others. This is why we are putting this off; please bear with us,” he said.

On the rationale of Federal Government setting up another probe panel after the one constituted by the state government had concluded findings, Ibirogba said the fresh probe was in order since nationals of other countries were involved in the disaster.

The commissioner said: “we don’t want to pre-empt the committee or sentence anyone before comprehensive report. Agencies of government are working, with representatives of the state government. Together, they will make their findings known as soon as they are through.”

It will be recalled that the South African government had called on the Federal Government to quicken investigation into the building collapse, as majority of those who died in the incident were South Africans.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), shortly after the conclusion of rescue operations, had put the total number of the dead at 86.

This thread is a direct response to an earlier thread were the OP wanted to know El-rufai's view on the recent successes by the Nigerian military

I decided to post this screen shot of El-rufai's view about the Nigerian military to so as to enable Nigerian's make an informed decision about the APC and her chieftains!

This is a man who wants to be governor of Kaduna, a state that houses Nigeria's largest Military formations and armaments.

For a man who had worked closely with the Nigerian military in the past to use such derogatory language on our soldiers and appear to be cheering the insurgents is shameful to say the least.

The fact that some of these officers and men have paid the supreme sacrifice in this struggle against evil did not matter to this former CPC chieftain.

Now that the military has gained ground against the insurgents and the paradigm has shifted a situation El-rufai and his cohorts never expected the hand of the Liliputian has suddenly become leprose on twitter unable to tweet anything reasonable!

May God help us to make the Right choices in 2015!

PoliticsEl-rufai Using Oritsejafor As Cover Up by ochejoseph(op): 7:14am On Sep 20, 2014
meant for the illegal procurement of arms in an aircraft linked to Oritsejafor, el-Rufai joined some notable critics of the government to call for an investigation into the issue, saying the cleric has a case to answer.

Though Oritsejafor distanced himself from the deal by claiming the aircraft had been leased out since August, his critics would have none of that.

Commenting on the issue, Olusola Oyedokun, the executive secretary of the body, maintained that el-Rufai is just hell bent on maligning the reputation of the president of CAN.

“Firstly, on Monday at the September 8, 2014, at the Portcullis House in Parliament, London, Malam Nasir el-Rufai publicly accused the president of CAN, Oritsejafor, of collecting N50bn from President Goodluck Jonathan as well as a jet for the purpose of sponsoring terrorism,” Oyedokun said.

“After his speech, he distributed a pamphlet which contained his accusations. We have documentary and photographic proof of this and of course Malam Nasir el-Rufai cannot deny this. We will be prepared to produce the evidence should the Malam have the temerity to issue a denial.

“Secondly, the plane in question has already been established to have been leased out to a commercial firm. As at the time the plane was chartered by persons connected to Nigeria’s Security agencies, they had no fore knowledge of the ownership of the plane. Why, in spite of this fact, has Mallam Nasir el-Rufai continued to link the president of CAN to the purported deal?

“Thirdly, the Nigerian Security community has indicated without equivocation that this was a legitimate transaction, blaming the official delegation for any slips and particularly the failure to declare the funds.”

Oyedokun added that Nigerians should be suspicious of el-Rufai and the All Progressives Congress (APC), maintaining that they are trying to divert the attention of the public from the alleged ties that they have with the Boko Haram.

“Going by the statements and documents adduced by Malam Nasir el-Rufai at the British Parliament on Monday September 8 and the subsequent issue regarding the plane, it is obvious that Malam Nasir el-Rufai and his associates have a mole within the national security community, which in the opinion of CAN explains so many things.

“Fourthly, should it not bother the Nigerian public that only on the September 16 2014, a member of the European Parliament, Franz Obermayr (MEP), a senior member of the European Parliament, accused the All Progressive Congress of using humanitarian aid from Europe as well as funds received from al-Qaeda to fund the terrorist sect, Boko Haram?

“This is all the more troubling especially considering that Mr. Andrew Rosindell of the British Parliament made similar allegations on the floor of the House of Commons two months ago.

“Why has Mallam Nasirel-Rufai, the Buhari Vanguard and the APC suddenly come out with guns blazing in their accusations against CAN and the person of Pastor Ayo when the world is focusing attention on exposing the sponsors of the Boko Haram sect?

“We encourage all Nigerians to search for and read the revelations by Franz Obermayr. He mentions names, and big names at that. Also, we wonder why Mallam el-Rufai who has been in celebratory mood about the revelations of Rev. Davies, has chosen to keep quiet about the identity of the “senior official of the CBN who recently left the bank” and who was implicated by Davies as a direct sponsor of terror.

“These and other revelations are what people like Mallam Nasir el-Rufai are eager to sweep under the carpet with this red herring of a jet linked to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.”

PoliticsMy Endorsement Of President Goodluck Jonathan For A Second Term by ochejoseph(op): 6:02pm On Sep 19, 2014
From independence till date Nigeria has seen many presidents but none like president Goodluck Jonathan, he is not arrogant he is not power drunk, he is the most abused president in the history of Nigeria yet very few can match his achievements!

With the exception of General Gowon no one has faced the kind of challenges he is presently facing and despite the odds he has outclassed many of his predecessors and disgraced many of his critics with his achievements !

I endorse President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR for the following reasons !

1.Education : Here is a Man who has build 12 brand new universities 9 Of them in the north were Boko haram is bombing every school in its sight, few presidents can boast of building a single university talk less of building 12 at a go !

Almajiri Education has been given a new meaning under President Jonathan, gone were the days when a malnourished rag tag, dirty looking child of Northern Nigeria roams the streets in search of Islamic Education.
For going out of his way to take care of the over 19 million lost children of Northern Nigeria by building close to 300 of these almajiri schools GEJ gets my support

2. Agriculture: For Transforming the huge waste lands across ,Nigeria into massive Rice Farms , for bringing back the Good old days of massive cocoa production, Goodluck already has one vote ,today Nigeria after so many years has decided to explore the huge stretch of Atlantic Ocean for fish a instead of seating and been fed with expired iced fish from Europe and America why won't I support Goodluck !
Even Nestle now hasa delicious millet "Akamu" it only gets better !

3. Auto Revival :

Assembly plants are not new in Nigeria , but in the last 15 years successive government had increasingly made it easier to Import Tokunbo cars than to assembly new cars in the country chasing investors aways transforming Nigerian's into second class citizens!

Today even Toyota is running to set up plants in Nigeria creating more jobs and conserving critical foreign exchange that means as soon as Ajaokuta steel complex comes back to life the fortune of the Nigerian Auto Industry will change dramatically ! This President Has my vote

4. Youth Empowerment

Nobody believed YOUWIN until they saw young people receive huge cheques based on the business ideas they submitted today young people have become massive employers of Labor!

GEJ is NYSC friendly that why he jacked up their allawee ! Before Jonathan allawee cannot take any corper anywhere !

With The GIS scheme graduates who cannot secure employment because they lack the required experience demanded by employers are enrolled to acquire such experience and be paid while doing so!

For this reasons and many other reasons Like the improve road Network , Rail revival and transformation ,second Niger bridge , PHCN privatization , bragging rights as the largest economy in Africa I join other patriotic and well meaning Nigerians to endorse endorse GEJ for 2015 presidential Election

Pls state yours !

EBOLA: Mauritius bars Nigerian students from returning to schoolBy Ezekiel Attah on September 19, 2014

Mauritius authorities have denied Nigerian students studying in the country re-entry because of the Ebola Virus Disease.

A student said they were on holiday in Nigeria and about to return to Mauritius when they received an email from their university authority asking them to stay away, according to report from Daily Trust

An email from the Middlesex University, Mauritius campus, to its students in Nigeria said, “It is with great regret that we have to inform you that the government of Mauritius made the decision on the 12th September 2014 to ban travel to Mauritius for all nationals from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo due to the recent outbreak of Ebola.

“The passport and immigration office have confirmed that as of the 12th September 2014 they have cancelled all visas and permits issued to nationals of the above countries and entry to Mauritius will not be allowed.

“We are very disappointed to have to advise you that if you travel to Mauritius, you will not be allowed to enter even if you have already booked flights, have a student visa and are planning to travel in the next few days.”

PoliticsNigeria Summon Egyptian Ambassador, demands Apology Over Maltreatment Of Teenager by ochejoseph(op): 8:10am On Sep 19, 2014
Nigeria summoned the Egyptian ambassador Thursday to protest the maltreatment of a 17-year-old Nigerian by Egypt’s national carrier, Egypt Air.
The foreign ministry summoned the Egyptian ambassador, Ashraf Salama, to formally lodge a protest over the treatment meted out to Joshua Abdul-Azeez, and demanded an unreserved apology from the Egyptian Government.
The Minister of State 1, Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, accused Egypt Air of “child-abuse” for starving the young Nigerian of food for three days, after wrongly routing his air ticket.
She said it was unacceptable that Egypt Air had failed to respond to repeated enquiries from the Nigeria Embassy in Cairo on what led to the treatment of the Nigerian.
The Nigerian authorities had sought explanation from the airline on reports that the Nigerian passport of the 17-year-old Nigerian was torn to shreds by a staff of Egypt Air in Istanbul, Turkey.
Ms. Onwuliri expressed dismay that the Egyptian ambassador’s initial reaction to the issue was to question the authenticity of local media reportage on the Nigerian who was treated like “a common criminal’’ by Egypt Air.
“Egypt and Nigeria are friendly countries and they have built this friendship over the years, but I don’t think we should allow things like this to happen,” she said.
“You (the ambassador) are worried about four pages of newspaper report on the issue, but I am surprised that you are not worried that a Nigerian passport was torn by an official of Egypt Air.
“I am surprised that you are not worried that a young boy, a Nigerian citizen, was left without food and water by an airline operated by your government.
“I am really surprised at you Mr. Ambassador,’’ she said.
The minister told the ambassador that the Nigerian government would not hesitate to demand compensation for the citizen when it concludes investigation on the matter.
“One Nigerian citizen is important to us and part of our multi-track diplomacy is that every Nigeria everywhere must be fully accounted for.
“The young boy in questions was going back to school in Ukraine and he complained here that he was issued the wrong ticket.
“Did you (Egypt Air) employ people who cannot read tickets and issue correct codes even after complaints,’’ she said.
The minister therefore demanded a formal explanation from the Egyptian government, which had 100 per cent control of Egypt Air.
In his defence, the Egyptian ambassador earlier blamed the Nigerian media for escalating a “small incident’’ involving a Nigerian passenger and Egypt Air.
Mr. Salama said that a Nigerian newspaper devoted four-pages to the issue.
He said the embassy had contacted Egypt Air and his home government on the incident but had yet to receive a formal report.
“We have respect for our Nigerian brothers and if this incident really happened, we will see who is responsible and punish accordingly.
“But we must taste and verify the credibility of the news report on the issue before we make a judgment,’’ he said.
Mr. Salama called for restraint from the Nigerian authorities on the issue, saying “I do not think this incident should escalate so much to affect our good relations built over the years.
“We have been supporting and standing by each other and I think we should continue that way,’’ he said.
He told the foreign minister that so many Nigerians travel to Egypt every day, adding “we have 16 flights daily and seven daily flights from Cairo to Abuja.’’

Politics2015: President Jonathan Accepts PDP Nomination by ochejoseph(op): 9:38pm On Sep 18, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan has thanked the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for endorsing him as “sole candidate” of the party ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

Speaking on Thursday at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja after his endorsement was made public, the president promised not to disappoint those who gave him the nod to continue in office.

“Let me really say that the events of yesterday, starting with BoT meeting last night and what has just happened today, with the various motions adopting me as sole candidate of the party, have really humbled me”.

“Let me specially thank our governors that initiated that action; let me thank members of BoT, let me thank the senate president and members of the national assembly; let me appreciate the PDP women for their position and the NEC, because no matter whatever anybody does, without NEC, you will be on your own.

“Adopting me as the sole candidate of the party has humbled me. I am totally overwhelmed. When the governors came up in a jointly-signed paper, though house of representatives started it, the governors’ intervention was like an atomic bomb. I commend all departments of the NEC.”

The president said he was so overwhelmed that he lacked words to express himself.

“I leave it for another day. For today, for you to have that kind of confidence, I am extremely challenged. It means that whatever we had done in the past three years, we triple it.

“That is the only way Nigerians will appreciate it. I promise I will not disappoint you.”

PoliticsJonathan Appoints Capt Usman As NCAA DG, Nweze As Justice Of Supreme Court Judge by ochejoseph(op): 1:44pm On Sep 17, 2014
Six months after the major shakeup in the aviation sector which resulted the sack of Fola Akinkuoto as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Civil Authority( NCAA), President Jonathan has appointed Captain Muhktar Usman as the new DG of NCAA.

President Jonathan has also appointed Justice Chima Centus Nweze as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

President Jonathan in separate letters to the Senate president requested for the confirmation of appointments of the DG NCAA and Justice Supreme Court.

It would be recalled that the sack of the former DG NCAA and some aviation bosses was due to the fallout of the bullet proof car purchase by the former Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah.

The letter reads in part : The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is one of the parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Aviation. By the Provision of section 8(1) of the Civil Aviation ( Repeal and Enactment) Act 2006, the appointment of the Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In this connection, following the recent reorganization in the Federal Ministry of Aviation, I have decided to appoint Captain Muhktar Usman as Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

“In accordance with the provision of section 8(1). Of the civil aviation ( Repeal and Enactment), I hereby present Captain Muhktar Usman for the kind consideration of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

On the appointment of Justice Nweze as Justice Supreme Court, President Jonathan stated that it’s in conformity with section 231, sub section (2) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which gives the president powers to appoint a justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria acting on the recommendation of the National Judiciary Judicial Council and subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The President also forwarded an act to amend the National Drug Law Enforcement Act and also another request for the confirmation of appointment of Dr Jonah Madugu as commissioner, Federal Civil service Commission.

Romance12 Signs You Have Commitment Phobia And How To Fix it by ochejoseph(op): 8:58am On Sep 16, 2014
If you browse your " life history " and you discover that all your friends are either married, having children, or in serious relationships whereas the biggest decisions you make weekly is which loose and brainless girl to take home then you might want to read this !

12 clear signs you have commitment issues and ways to fix them

It is not a crime to live for yourself, but you have to know when to admit that you have commitment problems. Only then can you grow out of it, fight your fears, and delve into a mature and adult relationship with someone special *if you want to, of course*.

The vicious cycle of dating and hurting people has to stop. Commitment-phobes have the same modus operandi, so it is relatively easy to spot someone who cannot hold down a long-term relationship. Here are some clear-cut signs that show you have a phobia when it comes to commitment.

#1 You need to maintain independence. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be in control of you life and destiny. However, if the thought of someone playing a role in your life’s decision making processes terrifies you, then you have a problem.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to you not wanting to make sacrifices to please someone else. You feel that if you open your heart, home and life to someone, you will lose all your independence, which is honestly not true. On the contrary you will receive love, security and companionship in return.

#2 You gravitate towards unavailable partners. Probably why all your relationships have not worked out is because you unconsciously gravitate towards partners whom you know will not be there till the end. Whether you date someone much older or younger than you, have massive religious or cultural differences, is married, lives abroad, or is simply another commitment-phobe, you know deep down inside that the relationship will run its course and you do not have to worry about committing long term.

Whether you realize this or not, this is a clear sign that you have commitment issues. All you have to do is look back at your past relationships and you will find that the one similarity they all have is that they were doomed from the start.

#3 You have not been in a committed relationship. Either you have never been in a committed relationship before, or have not been in one for a very long time. Even if you are currently in one, you can truthfully and unflinchingly say, “He/she is not the one. It’s just fun.” No matter which way you look at it, if you cannot bring yourself to fully commit to someone with the goal of it lasting the long term, you probably have commitment issues.

#4 You judge other relationships. As someone with commitment issues, you probably constantly judge other relationships. Whether it is your best friend’s latest squeeze, you neighbor’s fiancée, or your aunt’s 20-year marriage, you are probably full of opinions and judgments, most of them negative. You think that their partners are not good enough and that your friends are compromising their happiness just to be with someone.

You probably also think that the life that they have built with their significant other is dull and uneventful. You are also likely to think, “Who would want that?” and assume that you have a greater sense of independence and fun than them.

#5 You fantasize too much. You probably fantasize about living a life of glamor with the perfect partner. More often than not, this perfect person is someone totally unattainable, like a celebrity or someone who is already married. Whether it is cruising the Aegean Sea with Kate Upton or moving to South America with Ryan Gosling, you live in your fantasy world more than in reality. You would rather fantasize about having the perfect relationship with someone unreal than forge a lasting relationship with someone real.

#6 You are picky. The person you see yourself with has to look, talk, dress, behave and think a certain way for you to even give them the time of day. Your list of requirements is long and you would rather be single than “settle” for someone who does not check all the boxes. Every time you meet someone, you brush them off as unsuitable because they do not meet your requirements.

There is nothing wrong with having standards, but what you have to realize is that the perfect partner is a myth and that your self obsessed need to control, criticize and judge other people is an indication that you have issues with commitment.

#7 You have a broken heart. If you are still reeling from your last relationship, there is a chance that you are not ready to commit. For example, you may have been deeply in love with someone and even went so far as to believe that that person was the one. However, things took a turn for the worse when your partner realized that you were not the one and decided to end things.

You probably figured that if you built a wall around your feelings and never let anyone else in again, you would be just fine. If this is you, then you definitely have commitment issues. No matter what happened in the past, you need to realize that there are plenty of fish in the sea and if things did not work out, it was probably just not meant to be. Wake up, snap out of your self-created misery and move on.

#8 You settle because you know it won’t last. It does not necessarily mean that commitment-phobes cannot be in relationships. On the contrary, many like the love and companionship that comes with being with someone. The only difference is that people with commitment issues do not see things long term and prefer living by the adage, “We’ll see where it goes. It’s fun for now.”

If you have a tendency to date for fun because you know it will not be long term, sleep around, or are in an open relationship, you probably have commitment issues. Settling into relationships that you know will not last is a definite sign that you cannot commit.

#9 You have qualities that scare off potentials. Whether it is your loud and abrasive behavior, or nature of your job that always takes you on the road, you probably exhibit qualities that scare off possible spouses. Without even knowing it, you build obstacles that discourage potential partners from venturing in any further. This is a way for you to unconsciously build distance between yourself and others. By doing so, you lessen the risk of being intimate with someone.

#10 You always kid yourself. You probably always spew so-called philosophical mumbo jumbo like, “I believe that people have more than one soulmate,” or “With seven billion people in the world, I am sure there is more than just one love for me out there.” All these sayings are just to maintain and justify your single-dom.

You probably believe that you are an absolute catch and that no one really deserves you. Additionally, you believe that your past failed relationships are never your fault but always the other person’s. You have to take a step back and analyze your attitude. Perhaps, the reason why you are saying these things is because you are rationalizing your own commitment issues.

#11 You make excuses. This applies to situations that require you to think about the future. An example is meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. Even the idea terrifies you as you know that meeting the folks means taking a small, albeit next step to solidifying the relationship to a more serious status. You will make up excuses to get out of it, even resorting to falling off the grid for a few days. The same can be said for other scenarios that force you to think about the future.

#12 You love the chase. Those with commitment issues get their kicks out of the chase. Once they get the guy or girl that they have been working so hard to get, they lose interest. If you are this way, you are probably a bonafide expert at passionate yet very short relationships. This is because the moment things hint at getting serious, you run for the hills.

At the end of the day, there is no shame in admitting that you have commitment issues. No one can force you to be someone you are not.

Politics2015: “we Won’t Give Automatic Ticket To Anyone, Including Buhari” – APC by ochejoseph(op): 8:39am On Sep 16, 2014
There will be no automatic ticket for a former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and other presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress, the spokesman for the party has said.

This was coming after reports surfaced that  some leaders of the party had been planning to give automatic ticket to Buhari, a development that was said not to be favoured by Abubakar Atiku, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Senator Bukola Saraki’s groups within the party.

Reacting to the wide speculation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed speaking via a telephone interview, Sunday, said the APC would not give automatic ticket to Buhari.

“We won’t give automatic ticket to anyone, including Buhari. It is not in our constitution. All the candidates will undergo primary,”

A senior member of the party told journalists in Abuja on Sunday that the manoeuvres by certain APC forces to make Buhari the party’s presidential candidate in 2015 without going through a primary was not going down well with Kwankwaso, Bukola and Atiku support groups. The three politicians are also interested in the APC ticket.

It was also gathered that the attempt to foist Buhari candidature on the party without following democratic process was likely to tear the party apart.

According to this informed APC insider, who didn’t want to be named because he had no authority to speak, however, admitted that any attempt to hoodwink other members of the party in the election of a presidential candidate would destroy the foundation and the credibility of the APC.

The informed insider said they were particularly worried by feelers from the Buhari camp who were insisting that the emergence of the former military ruler as a candidate “is a settled matter.”

Buhari himself was said to have expressed open disagreement with the modified open direct primary adopted by the APC.

That position was expanded upon by the spokesman for the Buhari Organisation, Osita Okechuku, who said, “Given all the indices, the APC already has a de facto presidential candidate in the person of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

“If you go through the constitution of the APC, under Article 20, it says for nomination of candidate either for party offices or presidential election, you first explore consensus.

“If an agreement is reached through consensus, it has to be affirmed. If we go through that method, though we have a lot of good quality people in the APC, I do not know of any person who the leadership of the APC would tell Buhari to step down for.”

According to the source, disregarding democratic process in the choice of party presidential flagbearer could drag the APC into deep “and possibly irreparable political damage.”

He explained that the idea of “automatic adoption” of Buhari or any other aspirant for that matter was undemocratic and would be resisted.

The APC source warned that party members should not be reduced to “slaves and sheepishly expected to sign the dotted lines when confronted with the nauseating idea of automatic ticket.”

The APC insider said those scheming for “automatic ticket” for Buhari “ were probably the PDP fifth columnists who want to drive a nail into the APC coffin.”

PoliticsEBOLA HOAX CALL Nollywood Actor Arrested To Be Charded To Court by ochejoseph(op):
Actor, Kingsley Chris Bassey, has been arrested for
disrupting a flight, after making a false alert that a
passenger aboard had the Ebola virus.
He placed a hoax call to a recent Arik Air flight
from Enugu to Lagos, that a female passenger who
was travelling on the flight was infected with the
Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Upon arrival and subsequent testing of the female
passanger, she tested negative, which prompted the
airline to request for Bassey’s arrest.
According to the airline, “about 1.05p.m. on 29
August, a certain man from Enugu, called the
airline’s customer call centre to alert the airline
that his girlfriend who was under quarantine for
the EVD had escaped and was on board flight W3
611 from Enugu to Lagos.”
“Immediately the flight landed at the General
Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Ikeja, Lagos, Arik Air’s
ground staff who had been placed on alert
approached the Federal Airports Authority of
Nigeria (FAAN) medical personnel, but the FAAN
officials at GAT said they didn’t have the requisite
equipment to screen passengers for the Ebola virus
symptoms.”
“The aircraft was therefore taxied to the
international wing of the Murtala Muhammed
Airport. There, the Port Heath officials supervised
the disembarking of the passengers and therefore
directed the female passenger to be transferred to
the clinic for checks. “The lady was later discovered
to be free of Ebola symptoms after thorough
examination. She then told Arik Air personnel that
her boyfriend who made the malicious call from
Enugu did that to smear her name because they had a misunderstanding.”
Bassey would be charged to court on Monday, 15 September, for raising a false alarm which
disrupted the operations of the airline.

PoliticsStarve Boko Haram Of Publicity by ochejoseph(op):
Reno Omokri writes that Nigerians, irrespective of political and religion affiliations, must unite to fight and stamp out terrorism in the country

Nigerians and friends of Nigeria should be concerned about the glee and giddiness with which some sections of the media report what is obviously propaganda spread by the terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

The trend with some of these media organisations, most especially online media, is to over report alleged success of terrorists while under reporting or refusing to report the confirmed success of our troops.

They prove the adage that those that are swift to tell you bad news about others are very slow to tell you good news about others, if at all!
As the late Baroness Margaret Thatcher once said, “we must try to find ways to starve the terrorist and the hijacker of the oxygen of publicity on which they depend”.

When Nigerians use their websites, blogs or social media presence to project Boko Haram’s propaganda they are undermining the anti-terror war by boosting the morale of terrorists and demoralising the population.

Not only is Boko Haram an enemy of Nigeria, the sect is a particularly brutal enemy of the media. It would be recalled that the sect has attacked a number of media organisations with the worst being the attack on THISDAY Newspapers’s offices in Abuja in 2012 which led to the death of several promising journalists and other media support staff.

The sect also issued a fatwa on selected individual journalists and promised further attacks on specified newspapers and news magazines.

Terrorists do not discriminate between PDP or APC supporters, or between Northerner or Southerner. They kill indiscriminately. So we must unite against them irrespective of political or regional affiliations.

The beginning of this unity must be to call a round table meeting of all media organizations in Nigeria with the aim of coming to a consensus on how to report the news about the terror war without playing into the hands of terrorists.
Boko Haram depends on propaganda to spread panic. Panic is an attack strategy for them. Nigerian journalists have a patriotic duty to frustrate that strategy by refusing to spread their propaganda by way of sensational reporting.

That sensational and unverified propaganda might drive traffic to their online site or blog, but at what cost? At the cost of human lives?
Think of the civilians in the Northeast who panic and react hysterically upon hearing that their towns have been occupied by Boko Haram as reported by these media. They begin running helter-skelter. The military and paramilitary forces have to then contain the hysteria that arises from their panic leaving them distracted from their core duties of repelling the enemy. The terrorists seeing this now launch an attack and fulfill the sensational prophecy of the online site hungry for visitor traffic and then occupy the town.

The above is the modus operandi of Boko Haram and some in the media have been unwitting partners in this strategy.
This must stop.
Another thing that must be addressed is the eagerness with which Nigerians accept reports from foreign journalists and organisations that routinely accuse the Nigerian military of human rights abuses on the basis of an unnamed anonymous source on the frontline.

First of all, that unnamed person may very well be an agent of the terrorists feeding these media and human rights organisations with such tales in order to demoralise our armed forces.

This has been the case in at least one situation where a fake soldier gave an interview to a foreign news service and disparaged the armed forces.

But an even stronger point to note is that when the chips are down and terrorists strike, it is the Nigerian armed forces that come to the rescue of Nigerians not the foreign media or organisations that seat down in Western capitals and pontificate on the strength of “an anonymous source”.

Should our troops spend their time responding to these allegations and accusations or should they focus on protecting Nigerians? Of course their focus should be defending us.

But why should they dodge bullets and criticisms at the same time?
If these organisations care so much about human rights, shouldn’t they be concentrating on the rights of the human beings being terrorised by Boko Haram rather than on the rights of Boko Haram?

No one is justifying human rights abuses, but desperate illnesses require desperate remedies - a fact which The West is coming to terms with in Afghanistan with the Taliban and now in Iraq/Syria with ISIS.

NATO cannot be reasonably expected to slow down its military activities in these conflict areas where both combatants and civilians are being beheaded and crucified by terrorists because of complaints from people who are far from the battlefield.
What have Amnesty International and other human rights group said about Boko Haram’s strategy of using under aged girls for suicide bombings? What have they said about their penchant for killing all males in the villages they raid? What have they said of their forced marriages of widowed and orphaned women?

Do they expect our soldiers to be bombed and shot first and only ask questions when they get to heaven? Seriously?
Are Nigerian soldiers supposed to please these organisations by playing nice to terrorist whose publicly stated aim is to steal, kill and destroy Nigeria?

This brings me to the opposition.
The Nigerian opposition should not let hunger for power and hatred for its current holder, President Goodluck Jonathan, push them to slander our soldiers and undermine the anti-terror war.

They must remember that this is the Nigerian Army and not Jonathan’s Army.
I remember reading a news feature in the papers in 2009. The Ghanaian Deputy Minister for Energy, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, had visited Nigeria to give a lecture on how Ghana was able to achieve uninterrupted 24 hour electricity supply for her people.

In his lecture entitled  ‘How Ghana Kept the Light On’, Dr. Donkor advised that if Nigeria wants to achieve her goals in the power sector, we have to do what Ghana did and separate the power sector from politics.
Fielding questions after the lecture, Dr. Donkor said “electrification in Nigeria should be taken out of partisan politics and be made a national issue”.

Such a sound and practical advice!
If Nigeria is to win the war on terror, which we must win, the war on terror must be taken out of partisan politics and be made a national issue.

Nigerian politicians, particularly the opposition, will politicise everything.
Only on June 10 2013, the National Publicity Secretary of a major opposition political party released a statement sternly criticising the federal government for proscribing Boko Haram claiming that such an action infringed on their constitutionally guaranteed rights!
It is this type of action that strengthens terrorists and their sponsors.

How can we defeat terror in Nigeria if we cannot speak against it in one voice because of partisan and other motives?
When terrorists strike in other nations people demonstrate and agitate against the terrorists. Our case in Nigeria should not be different.
If members of the terrorist Boko Haram sect know they can count on disunity amongst the political class, they will be inspired to divide and conquer because they know that unless Nigerians are united against them we can have no hope of completely stamping them out for good.

In the case of terrorism, it is as Benjamin Franklin once said “we must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately”.
The opposition should take a cue from President Jonathan who continues to show leadership on the issue of providing succor to all victims of terror and other mishaps.

Only on Thursday July 31st 2014, the president hosted a Victim Support Dinner at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa at which over 60 billion Naira was raised for victims of terror and other mishaps.
This is the sort of thinking that is born from the philosophy of thinking nationally, thinking in bi-partisan terms and thinking of the next generation instead of the next election.

The oppositions have to think of the nation and act out that thinking on their party rather than thinking of their party and acting out that thinking on the nation.
If long term enemies in the Middle East are uniting to confront ISIS, then certainly Nigerians can unite irrespective of differences to confront Boko Haram.

Just 15 years ago all opposition parties were not in existence but Nigeria was.  In 15 years from now, their parties may or may not have merged, submerged, re-emerged or de-merged, but Nigeria will still be here.

Permit me to paraphrase Dr. Kwabena Donkor as I end this piece and say that ‘the war on terror in Nigeria should be taken out of partisan politics and be made a national issue’.

Nigeria must appreciate the courage and patriotism of our men and women in the armed forces. This is a virtuous thing to do. Glory follows virtue as if it were its shadow.

Let him that hath an ear hear!

1. Without knowing it, many of us have taken over the role of Abu Qaqa

2. Transforming personal Blogs, twitter handle and social media spaces into platforms for propagating terror

3. How will you feel if that Video you are sharing and broadcasting is that of someone you know, sharing such Videos and information that massages the ego of the insurgents in the height of insensitivity!

4. Supporting our troops is a civic responsibility

Supporting their families while they are in the front lines is a duty we must all embrace

Supporting the families of fallen soldiers is a debt we need to start repaying !

PoliticsQuestions For Apc Chieftains In London by ochejoseph(op): 12:02pm On Sep 09, 2014
1.                     Early July this year, Mr Andrew Rosindell, a prominent parliamentarian, here in the U.K, had raised queries regarding the association of the A.P.C with Boko Haram and terrorists activities, he went further to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will commission an inquiry into the international support network for Boko Haram in Nigeria and Cameroon; and if he will make a statement. (Notice no. 204402) To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what discussions (a) he and (b) other Ministers in his Department have had with leading members of the Nigerian opposition party, the All Progressive Congress; is this meeting an arrangement by the A.P.C to jeopardise or compromise a pending investigation of any alleged links with terrorism?

2.                     Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on the 10th of June 2013, you released a statement heavily criticizing the Federal Government for proscribing Boko Haram, calling that action unconstitutional. Do you still hold that view? Why did you make that assertion at the time you did? Are you saying that the aims and objectives of Boko Haram are constitutional?

3.                     A major figure in your party, General Muhammadu Buhari, also criticized the Federal Government for being too hard on Boko Haram, saying that the Federal Government should treat them in the same way as the Niger Delta militants were treated. Can you explain the rational for that statement?

4.                     Your party, the APC released a statement calling for the investigation and possible arrest of Senator Ali Modu Sherriff and General Ihejerika, on the strength of Australian hostage negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis's revelations, but curiously you were silent on the indictment by Davis of a certain "senior CBN official who recently left the bank", why is this?
5.                     In your party's statement you lambasted former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, for having a history and notoriety as a Boko Haram sponsor. But until two months ago, Sherriff was in your party, the APC and was one of its chief promoters. Are you saying that you only discovered his notoriety after he left your party?

6.                     Malam Nasir Elrufai, you are one of the advocates for Dr. Stephen Davis' revelations. In those revelations, Davis fingered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its senior officials as a conduit for funding terrorism. You are known to have gotten a major contract from the CBN running into billions in recent years. In view of Dr. Davis' revelations shouldn't Nigeria take a second look at that contract and others given apparently to APC sympathizes?

7.                     Malam Nasir Elrufai, you were one of the very first Nigerian politicians to call for dialogue with Boko Haram, yet you were also on record as being opposed to the recently concluded National Conference, were Nigerians dialogued with each other. Does it not seem as if you are telling Nigerians that if they want dialogue they should take to arms against the government?

8.                     Malam Nasir Elrufai, on the 23rd of January 2014, you cast doubt on Nigeria's ability to conduct free and fair elections and said “the next election is likely to be violent and many people are likely going to die. And the only alternative left to get power is to take it by force; this is the reality on ground". But we have seen elections since then in Ekiti and Osun, neither of which have been violent. In fact they were universally praised as being peaceful and credible. Don't you think statements like yours unnecessarily heat up the system and do you still hold on to that view?

9.                     Alhaji Lai Mohammed, as the APC spokesman, who does the APC suspect is the "senior CBN official who recently left the bank" and who went to the same school as Aminu Ogwuche in The Sudan?
10.               Alhaji Lai Mohammed, many have said that the utterances of leading members of your party gives the impression that your party is prone to violence. They cite the "rig and roast" comment of your party leader and the "dog and baboon will be soaked in blood" comment of another party leader. Is the public wrong in making this observation?

11.               Alhaji Lai Mohammed, why did it take so long for your party and it's leading lights to come out and condemn terrorism? It is on record that both General Buhari and Bola Tinubu did not condemn Boko Haram until last year.

12.               The Department of State Security in Nigeria in a statement few weeks back had drawn parallels between major bomb attacks, and electoral losses by the A.P.C. Giving examples, state by state, the DSS specifically said that there had been no major bombings following electoral wins by the A.P.C in Osun, Edo etc. but wins by the PDP and Labour party had witnessed major bombings days after, how can you explain these recurring coincidences?

13.               What in your view is the motivation for Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria, can you state categorically your view on whether or not there is a political component or objective to their operations and timing?

14.               Why do you think the Boko Haram seem to prefer attacking villagers and the poor and downtrodden in Northern communities but have not or only rarely attacked the northern political elite including past public office holders who abound in that part of the country having held power for over forty years ?

15.               The Borno State Governor is a member of your party, can you attempt an explanation for why he would insist on accumulating four hundred girls in a location for exams, against the advice of the exams regulating body, and with no evidence of requesting and ensuring enhanced security before their boarding and eventual kidnap? Can you also explain why the State Government did not seem keen on cooperation with the federal government, when the abduction occurred?

16.               Dr. Stephen Davis, whose previous testimony your party has praised for its candour, gave an interview to the Sunday Vanguard this past Sunday and said the principal aim of Boko Haram is “to demonstrate that the current government cannot ensure the security of Nigerian citizens both Muslim and Christian. Therein the sponsors assume they can undermine any efforts of the current government to be re-elected in 2015”. Doesn’t this exonerate the present government and its associates of any links to Boko Haram and doesn’t this statement indict the opposition chief of which is your party?
